The iconic Irish rock band, U2, delighted their fans at their Las Vegas Sphere show with a surprise performance of Darlene Love’s beloved holiday classic, ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).’ This marked the first time in nearly 36 years that the band had played the song live, with their previous rendition taking place during their renowned ‘Joshua Tree’ tour in 1987.

Watch “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – 1987 Version

Watch – “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – Version 2023, Performed at the Sphere in Las Vegas

Interestingly, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)'”was not included in U2’s live/studio album Rattle and Hum, but the band did release a video of their captivating performance of the track from November 1987. Despite not being listed on the official setlist, U2 made sure to rehearse the song during soundcheck before the show, ensuring that their rendition would be flawless and memorable.

The surprise performance of this holiday classic came as U2 extended their residency at the Sphere, adding an impressive 11 extra dates to their already extensive run. With this addition, the band’s total number of shows at the Las Vegas venue now reaches an impressive 40. This residency has allowed U2 to captivate audiences night after night, showcasing their incredible talent and timeless music to fans from all over the world.

U2’s surprise rendition of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)'”not only delighted their fans but also showcased the band’s versatility and ability to breathe new life into beloved classics. It was a truly special moment for both the band and their dedicated audience, reminding everyone of the enduring power of U2’s music and their ability to create unforgettable live experiences.

NME recently gave U2’s inaugural performance at a lavish venue a glowing five-star review. The review praised the band’s captivating stage presence and musical talent, as well as the venue’s magnificence. The writer also expressed excitement for U2’s ongoing residency in the city, known for its vibrant music scene.

In other U2 news, bassist Adam Clayton revealed in late November that the band’s progress in producing new music relies on the recovery of drummer Larry Mullen Jr, who has temporarily taken a break for the first time in four decades to undergo surgery.

Meanwhile, frontman Bono reassured fans that the band’s upcoming album will be a “unreasonable guitar record” that may not conform to practical expectations. Previously, the singer had described the album as “noisy” and “uncompromising.”

The Cornwall-based music festival, Boardmasters has released its first wave of artists for the 4-day event next summer. The festival takes place from July 7 to July 11 and brings music lovers from all over to Watergate Bay on the Cornish coast. The first headliners have been announced as British grime artist Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, known more commonly as Stormzy and electronic dance duo Saul Milton and Will Kennard, otherwise called Chase & Status.

Both acts are storming the music industry within their respective genres with multiple BBC, BRIT and DJ awards between them. With hundreds of more acts still to be announced, the festival caters to all music tastes booking indie, pop, rock and dance artists alike. Stormzy has become a household name in the music industry, gracing his way through a wide span of music genres like a knife through butter. He rose to fame through his Wicked Skengman series of freestyles over classic grime beats going on to win multiple awards such as a MOBO in 2014 and British Album of The Year at the BRITs amongst others.

Party starters, Chase and Status released their latest album 2 Ruff Vol. 1 on October 27 this year. The album included their popular single ‘Badadan’ featuring Bou and Flowdan which came out earlier this year in July.

The duo have also collaborated with UK dance vocalist, Becky Hill on their joint single ‘Disconnect’. Hill will be playing her own set at Boardmasters next summer. The singer is known for a multitude of collaborations on tracks such as ‘Afterglow’ with Wilkinson, ‘Gecko’ with Oliver Heldens and ‘Crazy What Love Can Do’ with David Guetta.

Other dance artists who will be on the bill include the experimental, electronic duo Bicep, who originate from Belfast, Northern Ireland. They have been hailed by the BBC as “one of the biggest names in UK dance” and have had music debuting at number two on the UK Official Albums Chart and number one on the UK Official Vinyl Albums. This led to two BRIT Award nominations.

Last year the headliners included Lorde, Liam Gallagher and Florence and The Machine. Previous years have seen acts such as The Chemical Brothers, Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris and Two Door Cinema Club. However some years, the festival had to be cancelled due to poor weather and COVID-19.

The festival was founded in 1981 as a surfing competition and became a home for new music acts in 2005, with festival goers camping at Watergate Bay. The event now consists of surfing and skateboarding competitions happening in and around the town of Newquay and artists playing on stages overlooking the sea. There is currently a maximum capacity of 53,000 surf and music enthusiasts who attend each year. With plenty more artists still to be announced, this festival is one not to miss.

Check out the full line-up below! Tickets are available here

Robbie Williams’ recent documentary “Robbie Williams” on Netflix has sparked curiosity among viewers, particularly regarding his feud with former bandmate Gary Barlow and the current state of their relationship. As many may recall, Robbie and Gary were both members of the immensely popular ’90s pop group, Take That, hailing from Manchester.

Robbie, being the youngest and most rebellious member, joined the band at the tender age of 16, while Gary, who was positioned as the group’s leader, was a few years older at 19. In the docu-series, Robbie reflects on his time in the band and reveals a sense of rivalry between himself and Gary.

During interviews for the show, Robbie candidly expressed his dislike for Gary, primarily because he believed Gary had everything and the successful career that he himself desired. Robbie admitted to feeling vengeful and wanting to make Gary pay for his perceived advantages.

Robbie said, “I disliked Gary the most because he was the one that was supposed to have the everything, and the career. I wanted to make him pay. I was vengeful.”

Despite Robbie’s departure from Take That after just five years, which left fans devastated, the band split the following year. Robbie embarked on his solo career in 1996, initially achieving moderate success with a few singles entering the charts. However, it was his collaboration with songwriter and producer Guy Chambers, along with the release of the hit song “Angels,” that truly propelled his music career to new heights.

In the documentary featuring one of Robbie’s earlier solo performances, archive footage captures him taunting the audience and directing his hostility towards Gary. He said,“I’m sorry that I treated Gary like that. You can understand why a younger me and a younger you would bump heads, I’d be like, ‘It’s my game’, and you’d be like, ‘No, it’s my game… it’s my ball’.”

Williams revealed that he did not seek Barlow’s input during any phase of the documentary’s creation. Williams clarified that he was not obligated to do so by law. Although the two had previously discussed the concept of a biopic, Williams admitted that their conversations on the topic were awkward. Robbie said, “Legally I didn’t have to. I’ve had to have chats there, yeah, and they are uncomfortable.”

Take That appeared to have a clear leader in Gary Barlow, with all attention and management focused on him. As a youth, I couldn’t help but feel envious and resentful towards him. Robbie said “And it seemed like there was one person being managed in Take That, and it was Gary Barlow. It was all geared around him and as a young person, I would’ve been jealous of that. I suppose a lot of me resented him.”

In 2006, Take That produced a documentary about their band, during which Robbie offered a brief and apology to Gary. However, Gary appeared to have little to add, stating that he had already expressed his thoughts on the matter in previous interviews. Gary said, “I think I’ve said it all in my interviews, yeah.”

The renowned musician Ed Sheeran, who acknowledges the importance of grassroots music venues in nurturing talent, has given his full support and embraces the new scheme, in light of the current challenges faced by independent music venues in the UK. These include high operating costs exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis and a slow industry recovery from the pandemic, various initiatives have been launched to provide support.

The latest scheme to provide such support is ‘Ride for Music’ a campaign recently launched by mobility app FREENOW. Under this scheme, the app pledges £1 for every taxi ride to the UK’s Music Venue Trust, a charity that works towards safeguarding and enhancing venues in the UK. FREENOW has committed to a minimum pledge of £200,000.

Ed Sheeran said “Like so many musicians, I started out playing in grassroots music venues. They are such a vital part of the music ecosystem. Without them, I definitely would not have had the chance to hone my craft and become the artist I am today.
In 2008, Ed Sheeran relocated to London with the intention of pursuing a career in music. He began by performing at small venues and engaging in busking. The success of Sheeran and the necessity of grassroots venues in providing a crucial stepping stone for all musical talents is evident. This has led to the global stardom of artists such as Ed Sheeran.

With support from big ticket companies such as Ticketmaster and WeGotTickets along with the governments investment pledge of £5milliion back in June this year. There is hope for the survival of grassroot venues, which play a vital role on metal health according to recent publications from the Big Issue, they stated “The UK is a nation of music lovers – in a new survey, 89% said live concerts have a positive effect on their mental health – yet the spiralling cost of living crisis has caused many to forgo that wellbeing boost.”

For the first time in this century, the United Kingdom has been given the responsibility to host the annual music event we all know as the infamous Eurovision Song Contest. This has come around after last years winners, Ukraine, being unable to host this years event due to the war. So the UK has willingly stepped in to host the 67th edition in their name.

Broadcasted across the BBC, the show is set to be like no other this year. Expect to have a whole series of different shows and programmed content for the audience to indulge in as a build up between broadcasts. For the first time ever the Semi-Finals and the Grand Final will be aired live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. During which they will provide wall to wall entertainment to the shows fans across TV, BBC iPlayer, the radio, BBC Sounds and online.

This distinguished event hosts the participation of 37 countries and the winning of a life changing trophy. Last year the Ukrainian rap group Kalush, who formed in 2019, took their humble victories home with a whopping 631 points. A third victory for the countries Eurovision history.

During the whole week there will be highlights from The One Show and BBC Breakfast live from Liverpool. Whilst BBC Radio and BBC Sounds deliver entertainment in the meantime, BBC 2 will be the main lodging for the actual broadcasting of the show.

The vast selection of entertainment will be carried out by our country’s leading and quick witted hosts to ensure a good running throughout the Eurovision display. For our Grand Final commentary we will be guided through by the English radio DJ and presenter Scott Mills and the renowned broadcaster Rylan. The Semi-Finals will be presented by the BBC presenter Paddy O’Connell. Whilst both Semi-Finals broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer will be presented by Alesha Dixon, Julia Sanina and Hannah Waddingham as well as the appearance Graham Norton joining the musical trio for the Grand Final.

“We couldn’t be more proud and excited to give our audiences such a huge array of world class Eurovision content. It’s an honour for the BBC to host the show on behalf of Ukraine, and we’re committed to do them proud. The level of collaboration and coordination across so much of the output is truly amazing. Let the Eurovision Song Contest begin!” Expressed Kate Phillips, BBC Director.

Not only will the contestants be taking to the stage but special visitors from around the world also. Artists such as Rita Ora, last years winners Kalush, UK star Sam Ryder, Rebecca Ferguson, Alyosha and more to be announced.

This years Eurovision Song Contest will be running from the 9th May to the 13th.

The group’s beverage namesake comes from the band’s festive hit “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)”. The group have collaborated with London based brewery Signature Brew again to produce the limited-edition beer. The group took to Twitter to announce the news.

A press release has described the beer with the following statement, “a mouth-watering bitterness to carry you through the season. On pouring out the brew, you’ll find a clear, deep copper beer with a medium-low carbonation; on the nose is a little stone fruit, toffee and light, earthy hops and you’ll be greeted with wintery and wild, spicy blackcurrant fruitiness and a firm bitterness which balances the complex rich, sweet toffee flavours of the malt.”

Bells End has got a bit of oomph to it but it’s something you can drink in the run up to Christmas and throughout the whole season. It’s a very wintery beer, it’s perfect and we can’t wait for everyone to try it.”

On 11th November 2021 it was confirmed that famed and celebrated musician Graeme Edge has tragically passed away aged 80. The drummer is best known as one of the founding members of the British blues band Moody Blues. A statement approaching the sad news was posted on the band’s social media pages, the moving tribute was written by frontman Justin Hayward.

Edge was born on 30th March 1941 in Staffordshire and formed The Moody Blues at the age of 23. Edge was a key songwriter in the group and was often described as the quintet’s poet. Edge’s poems can be heard on many tracks, with his poem “Departure” being used to open the group’s third studio album In Search Of The Lost Chord. The talented artist also wrote over 13 songs and often contributed to his bandmate’s solo work.

Edge formed The Moody Blues in Birmingham in 1964, the original lineup consisted of Keyboardist Mike Pinder, Multi-instrumentalist Ray Thomas, Denny Laine on guitar, Edge on drums and bassist Clint Warwick. The band went through a line-up change after their formation which included original members Pinder, Thomas, Edge as well as new members Justin Hayward on lead vocals and guitar and new bassist John Lodge. This lineup would remain throughout the 70s, an era now classed their classic and best-known period.

After their first performance in 1964, the group gained attention through their work in rhythm and blues music. They soon caught the attention of industry professionals and were signed to the management company Ridgepride. Alex Wharton, the company’s founder, was an A&R rep for Record Label Decca Records, the label then signed the band in 1964. In 1965 the group released their debut album The Magnificent Melodies which garnered the group considerable success. The group’s best-known track, “Nights In White Satin”, was included on the band’s second studio album Days Of Future Passed, released in 1967. The band would go on to release 14 more studio albums and eventually disbanded in 1974 but reunited in 1977.

After The Moody Blues’ hiatus Edge embarked on a trip around the world on his yacht Delia, Edge would find inspiration in the Greek Island of Corfu and would later use the musical influences in his work. After his voyage Edge released his solo work, his initial solo single “We Like To Do It/Shotgun” was released in 1974. The following year, Edge released his first solo album entitled Kick Off Your Muddy Boots with the single “The Tunnel/Bareback Rider”.

The artist’s second solo album Paradise Ballroom was released in 1977, Edge used his inspiration found on his trip within the album and fused Calypso and Salsa beats with his original sound. In the same year, the artist also released the single “Everybody Needs Somebody/Be My Eyes”. The solo material was released under Edge’s studio band The Graeme Edge Band, the group also included vocalist and guitarist Adrian Gurvitz and artist Paul Gurvitz.

Since the news of Edge’s death was confirmed tributes for the musician have poured in, with many citing him as an influence. Edge’s partner, Rilla Fleming has confirmed that the cause of death was metastatic cancer.

A focus of thanks was present at the ceremony for the NHS and the Key Workers tasked with hard work during COVID-19. “The 2022 show will continue to build on that ethos; celebrating British and international artists and their achievements over the past year, in what is set to be an even more innovative and interactive show than ever before.”

An emphasis on the event’s philanthropic element is given within the BRIT award’s statement, the event promises to continue their contribution and involvement within the award’s charity The BRIT Trust. “The long-standing partnerships with ITV (29 years), Mastercard (24 years) and The O2 arena (12 years), will continue to support The BRITs’ mission to continue delivering an evening of live music and entertainment that millions of music fans all over the world annually tune in for, and that has raised much of the £27million distributed to date by The BRIT Trust, the charitable arm of the awards, to charities that promote education and well-being through music.”

Established in 1999, The Brit Trust was formed by UK record labels and various music industry communities. The trust’s focus and mission statement are to use its funds, tools and resources to utilise music and the arts to benefit young people and their lives. The trust’s financial backing is mostly from the money in which is raised from the annual BRIT awards as well as the Music Industry Trust awards dinners. Such causes and institutions with which the trust works include The BRIT school and Nordoff Robbins, a UK independent music therapy charity that uses music to aid in physical and mental health issues.

It was reported earlier in the year that Ora had been working with British DJ Sigala, and now the duo’s greatly anticipated single has been released. The track was co-written by Ora’s creative partner and best friend, Charli XCX. The pair previously worked together in 2015, when Charli XCX released an alternative mix of Ora’s single ‘Doing It’.

British producer and DJ, Sigala, otherwise known as Bruce Fielder, has spoken out about the track and credits his team to the single’s upcoming success. “I’m so excited to release this track with the incredible Rita Ora. This track was co-written by pop genius Charli XCX, it’s euphoric, it’s happy, and I’m hoping it’s a sign of things to come.”

The new track marks Ora’s first release since ‘Bang’, released 12th February 2021. The track saw Ora collaborate with Imanbek, the Kazakh producer responsible for the 2019 remix of ‘Roses’ by Saint Jhn. Earlier in the year Ora confirmed that she is working on her third studio album and promised fans something different than she has done before.

In other news, Ora’s partner Taika Waititi has spoken out about the photo which surfaced showing him acting affectionally towards Ora and ‘Thor’ actress Tessa Thompson. In the interview he was asked if the leaked photo upset him, to which he replied: “Not really, I think in the world of the internet, everything goes away pretty quick. And also, ‘is it that big a deal? No, not really. I was doing nothing wrong. It’s fine.” As the photo was published during production for the director’s new film ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, the Bafta award winner was chastised. The Daily Telegraph previously reported that the heads at Marvel were not entirely happy with Waititi after the image went viral and stated that it was “not exactly the image they’re looking to project in relation to one of their biggest franchises”.

It has been revealed that Former ‘Doctor Who‘ actor Peter Capaldi is working on new music. The actor who once played in a band will be returning back to the music industry with new material.

A source has disclosed that he has been working on his debut solo album and that the Scottish actor has used lockdown and his acting hiatus to work on his return. As well as being a celebrated actor, Capaldi was once in a punk band. The actor’s band, The Dreamboys, were active during the 1980s and also included fellow Scottish actor Craig Ferguson. As well as his stint as the famous doctor from 2013 until 2017, Capaldi is also known for his portrayal of Malcolm Tucker. The actor starred in the British satiric TV show ‘The Thick of It’ from 2005 until the series ended in 2012. The actor has also won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film and the BAFTA Award for Best Shirt Film, both accolades were for his short film released in 1993 entitled ‘Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life’. Capaldi is also set to star in the next DC film, ‘The Suicide Squad‘, the actor will play the villain called The Thinker.

The source has spoken with The Sun magazine’s column Bizarre concerning Capaldi’s return to music and provided an update on the status of the album’s release. “Peter has been a huge music fan for years and was doing that before his acting career properly took off. That stopped him from singing and making music for a while but in recent years he has got back into it and put some music out just for the joy of it. But when the lockdown struck, it felt like the perfect opportunity to get his head down and work on a full project of his own. He has finished his bits for the album and it is just being mixed at the moment so it shouldn’t be too long before fans get to hear it. He is not expecting it to be as big as Lewis’ records but Peter has really enjoyed working on it and reckons that his followers will like it.”

The source mentioned the name ‘Lewis’, referring to the Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi. Both recently discovered that they were distant relatives and met in 2018 when the actor came to see the Brit award winner perform at the London club, Scala. Peter Capaldi even stared in Lewis’ music video for the smash hit ‘Someone you Loved’, released in 2018.

The 2020 Grammy award nominee has spoken about how the family connection was somewhat of an open secret within his immediate family, stating that they are distant cousins. The singer has said: “My dad and my aunties told me we were related to Peter a while ago, I think he’s my dad’s second cousin. Whenever he came on the TV they’d always say “You’re related to Malcolm Tucker” or “you’re related to Doctor Who. None of us had met him though so when my agent mentioned he’d been in touch asking about coming to my show in London I said “yes, of course!” He came backstage afterwards to say hello and we had a great chat. We talked a bit about the family connection and he said he really liked the music, so that was really nice of him. He’s a really cool guy. It’s a big inspiration to have someone who’s so successful in the family.”

Peter Capaldi can currently be seen staring in the West End production of ‘Constellations‘, alongside legendary actress Zoe Wanamaker. The production opened on 23rd June 2021 and will run with its current cast until 24th July 2021. Ticket holders can see the iconic actors perform at the Vaudeville Theatre within these dates, after-which the main characters will portrayed by a new actor duo.
