The Who’s Pete Townshend has released his first single in 29 years, titled “Can’t Outrun the Truth.”

The charity single has been released to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust, with all proceeds from vinyl sales and an undisclosed portion of digital downloads going towards the charity.

In a press statement for the new single, Townshend said, “The pandemic years were terrible for charities; the Teenage Cancer Trust was created in order to take the money from a series of concerts at the Albert Hall every year and various other things and that had all dropped out.”

He continued, “So, the idea of doing this, which is it’s something that has sprung out of Lockdown about mental illness, but also for this particular charity. If you’ve got a scenario in which somebody in your family or a teenager has got cancer, they’re being treated, Lockdown hits, and you’re not allowed to go and visit them. There’s a poignancy to the whole thing about the song.”

The track was composed and produced by Townshend’s partner, Rachel Fuller.

Speaking on how the track came to be created, Fuller said, “We’d just moved house and Pete was as happy as Larry up in his studio, working every day, and I put my back out, I was just climbing the walls, I couldn’t do any creative work and obviously, we couldn’t go anywhere, and I really started to think about how unbelievably difficult this period of time was going to be for so many people. I wrote lyrics and then I sat at the piano and wrote the music, and then I thought, ‘Oh, I really would like to record it, because it’s really not a bad song at all’ — and my singing days are long over. So, I asked Pete to record the demo.”

On working with his partner Rachel, Townshend said, “I’ve helped Rachel make the demos for several of her theatrical projects. She’s a really a fast worker. It’s not that you say to me, ‘Let’s go into the studio for two weeks and work on this project.’ We do it two hours later, or an hour later, it’s done — so it’s easy to work with her.”

“Can’t Outrun the Truth” was recorded in Townshend’s home studio in September 2021. Townshend sings on the track as well as playing violin and lap steel guitar on it for his first solo effort in almost 30 years.

Beabadoobee the alternative/indie artist has a new single out entitled “Talk” alongside the announcement and full details regarding her new album Beatopia, as well as plans for a UK tour later this year.

The Filipino-British singer-songwriter announced the title of her second studio album last week, but has now also revealed the full tracklisting, release date, artwork and shared the video for her latest single “Talk”.

The singer signed to Dirty Hit as stated in NME, saying of her new release “I wrote “Talk” just after my first album. I was obsessed with Tuesday because I thought it was the best night to go out, not too much chaos but just enough to have a good time, generally it’s about doing things that aren’t necessarily healthy or great for you but you can’t help indulging. It’s like that unavoidable feeling that you get, you can’t get rid of it and you know it’s bad but you love it really and it’s whatever, so you do it anyway.”

The music video that accompanied the single depicts Beabadoobee and her band members performing over a white background with some unusual red mushrooms. The band are then joined by jumping and dancing fans. It is a track right out of the early 2000s, incorporating almost Moog-like synths combined with a modern reimagining of 90’s alternative rock. You can view the full video below:

Beabadoobee’s new album features 14 tracks and according to a press release “traverses fuzzy rock, classic singer-songwriter, psychedelia, midwest emo and outright pop whilst remaining undeniably herself throughout.”

The album also features a collaboration with PinkPantheress on the track “Tinkerbell Is Overrated”. The album will drop on July 15th and you can pre-order it here.

“We Go Back” is the fourth single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming album, and was accompanied by an official music video. Directed by Canadian animator Winston Hacking, the single’s video is a colourful trip into an imagination fuelled world. Hacking is known for his psychedelic work and has teamed up with various artists including Flying Lotus and Canadian singer-songwriter Andy Shauf.

Speaking on his experience working with Animal Collective, Hacking has stated, “It was a thrill to work with Animal Collective – they trusted our sense of play and commitment to spontaneity which is mirrored in their sound, The video is composed of scanned locations, miniature sets and collage cut outs that embrace the low-fi 3d aesthetic inherent in photogrammetry.”

The press release provides the following description for the album, “These nine songs are love letters, distress signals, en plein air observations, and relaxation hymns, the collected transmissions of four people who have grown into relationships and parenthood and adult worry. But they are rendered with Animal Collective’s singular sense of exploratory wonder, same as they ever were. There are harmonies so rich you want to skydive through their shared air, textures so fascinating you want to decode their sorcery, rhythms so intricate you want to untangle their sources. Here is Animal Collective past 20, still in search of what’s next.”

The group’s upcoming album, Time Skiffs, is the group’s eleventh studio album and their first full album in over five years. The album’s lead single entitled “Prester John” was released on 20th October 2021, “Walker” was the album’s second single and was released on 13th December 2021. The track was primarily written and released as a tribute to pop icon Scott Walker, the singer who tragically lost his life in 2019 whilst the group were working on new music. The third track to be taken from the album “Strung With Everything” was released on 19th January 2022 and also was accompanied by an animated music video.

The band recently treated ticketholders at Pitchfork Music Festival 2021 to a live performance that included two unreleased tracks from Time Skiffs. The album tracks featured in the set were “Car Keys” and “Dragon Slayer”, the group also performed “In The Flowers” taken from their eighth studio album Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The quartet is set to hit the road next month for the US leg of their 2022 tour, the fifteen-date series will kickstart on 8th March 2022 with a performance in Richmond, VA and will conclude on 26th March 2022 with a set in Atlanta GA.

Next week marks the release of George Ezra’s new single, “Anyone For You” is set to be released on 28th January 2022. The singer’s hotly-anticipated single will be Ezra’s first new material since 2018, although the singer released a festive single in December in partnership with Amazon, “Come On Home For Christmas” which reached number ten within the official 2021 Christmas singles charts, but peaked at number eight.

The 28-year-old artist teased the release through a countdown timer on his website, and then officially confirmed the new single’s release date. The singer then took to social media to announce the good news; the post included the new single’s release date and teased that more information was to come, stating; “This Is Just the beginning”.

“Anyone For You” will give fans a taste of what to expect from his forthcoming third studio album. No further information was given concerning the singer’s next album. Although a new website called Gold Rush Kid has launched, the site seems to support the singer’s new material and allows fans to sign up for a newsletter.

Ezra’s upcoming album will follow from Staying at Tamara’s, the singer’s second studio album was released on 23rd March 2018 via Columbia Records.
Last December the English singer-songwriter spoke with Metro Newspaper for their Guilty Pleasures column concerning how his creative process has changed since his second album. Ezra opened up about his struggles with OCD and anxiety whilst discussing how the pandemic personally affected him; “I’m having a lot of fun at the moment and I feel like, let’s turn it up a gear. Having missed out – all of us having missed people, experiences – it’s just, lean into them, now knowing what it feels like without them. When opportunities arrive, grab them.”

He continued, “I ended the last album wired, I was quite wound up. I was an uptight person, which I had never been before. It was an idea of control – and lack thereof. I’ve only ever known this thing as being full-on, all-consuming madness. At this point though – I don’t want my manager to hear this – I’m up for it. I feel so fortunate with the conversations going on. We’re talking about future shows and different artworks and what a show might look like. I don’t know what it is that’s changed in me, but something has. I go, ‘This is real life, this is what you get to talk about’. It’s a really beautiful thing to wake up and be involved in something creative.”

Fans will get the chance to catch Ezra live this year, the singer will return to the stage this summer with two appearances. On 17th July 2022, Ezra will perform his first live set since the pandemic at London’s Finsbury Park. The summer date will be the singer’s largest show to date and will feature support from Blossoms and Holly Humberstone. When announcing his appearance at the London event, Ezra stated in a video message, “I want you to be there. I need you to be there. It’s gonna be a party.”

Ezra is also billed to perform at Cornwall’s Boardmasters festival 2022, The singer is set to headline the festival along with Disclosure and Kings of Leon.

Adele has broken a new Spotify streaming record with her latest song, “Easy On Me”. The track has broken Spotify’s record for the most streams in a single day and it debuted with 24 million streams in 24 hours

“Easy On Me” is Adele’s first single in five years and was dropped at midnight on October 15. It quickly amassed millions of streams within its first few hours of going live.

The new record set by the song surpasses a record previously held by K-pop giants, BTS. They held the record with 20.9 million streams for “Butter”.

On Twitter, Spotify wrote: “And just like that, Adele set a new record.”

And just like that, @Adele set a new record pic.twitter.com/WIz55hQmln

— Spotify (@Spotify) October 15, 2021

The song is also performing well on other platforms, too and at about 2 p.m. PT on Friday the music video had already racked up 36 million views and it was also at the top of the U.S. iTunes chart.

A few days ago (October 16), Adele also hinted to fans what they can expect to hear on her next album, 30, which will arrive on November 19. The new album will deal with Adele’s divorce from her husband Simon Konecki, which was finalized in March after the couple had been separated for nearly two years. The singer told Vogue that the album is her attempt to explain her divorce from Konecki to her 9-year-old son Angelo when he’s older.

When asked on Radio 2 about possible options for the first single, Adele told Zoe Ball there were “three”, before going on to describe how each sounded.

Adele explained: “There were three options for the first single. Very different, all of them. There’s obviously “Easy On Me”, then there’s another one…I got very into Goldfrapp and I was like, ‘I can do this music too!’. I can do one song, I definitely couldn’t pull off what Alison [Goldfrapp does], she’s the absolute Queen. And there’s another one that’s very 70s, piano singer-songwritery. Just very Carpenters, very Elton [John].”

You can hear “Easy On Me” below:

Adele hasn’t just broken records with this latest release however as it was recently announced that Adele’s second album 21 was ranked number one in BBC Radio 2’s Top 30 Best-Selling Albums.

The Feeder has shared a second preview from their upcoming album Torpedo with a storming new track entitled “Magpie”.

The song originally started life out on an acoustic. The new single is in your face from the start, driven throughout by hard-hitting riffs and hypnotic vocals. There is a real grunge rock meets prog-rock feel to this latest release.

The track is also set to be released on the band’s 11th studio album which was announced last month. It follows on from 2019 record Tallulah and drops on March 18, 2022, via Big Teeth Music. You can hear the new track below.

Frontman Grant Nicholas Discussing “Magpie”, stated to NME “I first wrote the riff to “Magpie” at home during lockdown on my Gibson J45 acoustic. I had an almost heavy dance groove idea in my head when writing it and also when approaching the production, and how to capture this feeling and sound.”

“The lyrics were mainly written on my daily walks and runs to Finsbury Park during lockdown. It was a very observational process for me and mentions my childhood superstition for Magpie birds that I had spotted every day.”

Nicholas then went on to say “The song’s chorus touches on the frustration that I think we all feel, and especially felt at that time, about the future in general. It also addresses the impact social media and how it can affect peoples’ belief, dreams and mental wellbeing.”

“We are all kind of servants to the system in some way and our own feelings and emotions – it’s just how each person deals with them in their own way. It’s definitely one of my favourite tracks on the Torpedo album and was fun to write and record some big riffs.”

The band are then set to tour the album Torpedo next year, with dates beginning in Bexhill on April 23. The tour will then run into May and finish with a massive London gig at Brixton Academy on May 6. You can view the tour dates below.

It was reported earlier in the year that Ora had been working with British DJ Sigala, and now the duo’s greatly anticipated single has been released. The track was co-written by Ora’s creative partner and best friend, Charli XCX. The pair previously worked together in 2015, when Charli XCX released an alternative mix of Ora’s single ‘Doing It’.

British producer and DJ, Sigala, otherwise known as Bruce Fielder, has spoken out about the track and credits his team to the single’s upcoming success. “I’m so excited to release this track with the incredible Rita Ora. This track was co-written by pop genius Charli XCX, it’s euphoric, it’s happy, and I’m hoping it’s a sign of things to come.”

Ora has also commented on the trio’s new track, the singer has also described the song’s purpose and atmospheric nature whilst expressing her excitement over its release. “It’s been amazing to work with Sigala and making new music. The track is such a feel-good summer tune, I can’t wait for you all to hear it.”

Sigala uploaded a lyric video for the trio’s new track via his YouTube channel today, check out the video below.

The new track marks Ora’s first release since ‘Bang’, released 12th February 2021. The track saw Ora collaborate with Imanbek, the Kazakh producer responsible for the 2019 remix of ‘Roses’ by Saint Jhn. The producer won a Grammy award for the track, the win made him the first artist from Kazakhstan to win the award and marked the first Grammy win for an artist from the Commonwealth of Independent States. Earlier in the year Ora confirmed that she is working on her third studio album and promised fans something different than she has done before.

In other news, Ora’s partner Taika Waititi has spoken out about the photo which surfaced showing him acting affectionally towards Ora and ‘Thor’ actress Tessa Thompson. The Oscar Winning director spoke with The Sydney Morning Herald concerning the photo. In the interview he was asked if the leaked photo upset him, to which he replied: “Not really, I think in the world of the internet, everything goes away pretty quick. And also, ‘is it that big a deal? No, not really. I was doing nothing wrong. It’s fine.” As the photo was published during production for the director’s new film ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, the Bafta award winner was chastised. The Daily Telegraph previously reported that the heads at Marvel were not entirely happy with Waititi after the image went viral and stated that it was “not exactly the image they’re looking to project in relation to one of their biggest franchises”.

Fans will not have to wait long to hear the new track, Ora is set to play Cinch presents TRNSMT 2021, the artist is included in the line up for the festival’s rescheduled event due to COVID-19. Ora will perform on Sunday 11th July 2021 at Glasgow Green, along with headliners Lewis Capaldi and Snow Patrol. With the new track’s ‘Summer vibe’ qualities and playful electronic instrumentation, it is sure to be the perfect festival track this Summer.

The iconic punk band Descendents have just released a short but sweet 56-second track full of raw energy “Like The Way I Know”. This will feature on their upcoming album “9th & Walnut” due out July 23 via Epitaph Records.

This latest song may seem quite reminiscent of their early days as Billy Stevenson the bands’ drummer noted that the track was “One of the very first Descendents songs, written in 1977, by (founding member) David Nolte, about how living in Hermosa Beach made him feel like a freak.”

In 2002, the original line-up of bassist Tony Lombardo, drummer Bill Stevenson, guitarist Frank Navetta, and vocalist Milo Aukerman entered the studio to finally record the album. However unfortunately they failed to complete it before Navatta died in 2008. It was then more recently revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone, that, Stevenson sent the 2002 recordings to Aukerman, who recorded his vocals at home before sending them back to Stevenson to mix it.

The 18-track result became “9th & Walnut”, which was named after their Long Beach practice space back in the day. This latest release features the bands’ earliest material written from 1977 through 1980. You can pre-order the album here.

The latest offering from slowthai features a collaboration with Skepta to bring about ‘CANCELLED’. The fierce track is accompanied with an engaging video that references all the classic 90’s horror movies – American Psycho, The Nightmare on Elm Street, Candyman, Silence Of The Lambs and more. ‘CANCELLED’ is the latest single from slowthai which will appear on his upcoming second album, ‘TYRON.’

The collaboration with Skepta produces an intense track with a thick beat speaking to cancel culture. Skepta enters with the prominent hook, stating ‘How you gonna cancel me? / twenty awards on the mantle piece / pyramid stage at Glastonbury / Girls in the crowd got their hands on me.’ In a press release, the new single was described as “a mirror held up to the modern phenomenon of cancel culture … [which] doesn’t shy away from being a bold and urgent response to those who tried to tear him down.”

The music video includes lots of 90’s slasher flicks and spoof of the Budweiser ‘wassup?’ advert. Having a comedic spin on the classic ‘Hey Paul?!’ moment in American Psycho, slowthai shamelessly advertises his own upcoming album – TYRON – stating it is his ‘most accomplished album’ and that ‘CANCELLED’ is ‘so catchy but people probably don’t listen to the lyrics’. This only makes the listener intently listen to slowthai’s rap. The video, directed by THE REST, only goes on to show more references to the classic horrors, with slowthai in a Freddy Krueger jumper and Skepta dressed up as The Candyman. The duo also performed the track on The Jimmy Fallon Show last week, keeping up the scary visuals and 90s horror film references during their live performance.

Slowthai has released multiple singles for upcoming album TYRON, which will be released this Friday, February 12th. Tracks such as ‘nhs’, ‘MAZZA’ and ‘feel away’ have already been well received increasing the anticipation for the awaited album, with collabs from A$AP Rocky, James Blake and Mount Kimbie. In a press release, the album was described as having a clear message – ‘every human makes mistakes but the most beneficial outcome is to pause, step back, reflect, learn and grow.’ Speaking to Rolling Stone, slowthai stated that the albums influences come from Alex Turner and Jay-Z as well as Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.
