Organisers of Wireless, Festival Republic, say in an official statement: “As with every Wireless Festival, multiple stakeholders were consulted in advance of booking Ye and no concerns were highlighted at the time. Antisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognise the real and personal impact these issues have had. As Ye said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and in spite of this still hopes to be given the opportunity to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the UK.”

West, known professionally now as Ye, shared an official statement addressing the controversy just this morning, ahead of the Home Office decision. It was an addition to his January apology titled ‘To Those I’ve Hurt’ which had been published in the Wall Street Journal. In it, he offered explanation to his erratic and contentious behavior in recent years. In Tuesday’s addition to the apology he said he has “been following the conversation around Wireless” and that he wishes to “address it directly.” He appealed to members of the Jewish community in the UK saying he “would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with [them]” and “listen.” He said, “I know words are not enough” and that he will “have to show change through [his] actions.”

The festival was due to take place in July with West headlining all three days. But since then, scrutiny of the festival and this choice erupted among many Jewish rights groups. Namely the groups cited the numerous instances of the rapper sharing harmful antisemitic beliefs. In February 2025 he released a song titled ‘Heil Hitler’ which praised the Nazi leader, he also sold merchandise featuring swastikas and attempted to release his album ‘Bully’ with artwork that included a swastika. His campaign of antisemitism is not recent, in 2022 the rapper shared offensive and dangerous antisemitic conspiracy theories on social media.

Previously, West has been stripped of a visa to enter Australia and would be faced with immediate arrest upon entering Brazil. And now the UK’s Home Office has joined, barring the rapper from entering the country this afternoon (7 April).

Earlier today, Melvin Benn, the Managing Director of Wireless’ organiser, Festival Republic told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that Jewish communities had refused to speak to West. But a spokesperson from the Board of Deputies of British Jews told BBC “either the Board of Deputies nor, we understand, the Jewish Leadership Council has refused any request to meet.” And that “when the Board of Deputies received a letter from Melvin Benn on 6 April, proposing to meet, in response to a letter we sent setting out our concerns, we responded positively. In any event we are clear that the invitation to Kanye West to perform should be rescinded.”

Phil Rosenberg, President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews released an official statement after the Home Office’s decision to ban West. He says, “We welcome the government listening to the concerns of Jews in the UK” and called the booking of West for the Wireless Festival “deeply regrettable.”

“We are immensely grateful for the support of those across the political spectrum and from other minority and faith communities. It should not be for the Jewish community alone to advocate for our safety; it is incumbent on the entire arts and culture sector, and civil society as… pic.twitter.com/dh8Ffs1zkQ

Reaction to West’s ban has also come from Prime Minister Keir Starmer who says, “Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless.” He also says the UK government “stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism.”

The Community Security Trust has also released an official statement in reaction to West’s ban, calling it “sensible outcome to what has been yet another bruising episode for British Jews.” They added, “Anti-Jewish hatred should have no place in society and cultural leaders have a role to play in ensuring that is the case. People who show genuine and meaningful remorse for previous antisemitic behaviour will always receive a sympathetic hearing from the Jewish community, but that process must come before this kind of public rehabilitation.”

Before West’s ban on entry to the UK, major sponsors Pepsi, PayPal, Diageo and Rockstar Energy had all pulled support from the Wireless festival. Additionally, American actor David Schwimmer shared a statement hitting out against Wireless. He praised PayPal, Diageo and Pepsi as being companies with “moral clarity” (Rockstar had not yet pulled support from the festival). He condemned Wireless and Festival Republic for “platform[ing] an artist who became one of the most recognisable hate-mongering bigots in the world.” He concluded: “An apology letter is just that: Words on paper. An advertisement, generating publicity before a concert tour. It does not erase years of abuse. I believe in forgiveness, but it takes much more than this.”

London’s Wireless Festival has come under immense scrutiny this week from Jewish rights unions and various campaign groups, following yesterday’s announcement that controversial rapper Kanye West would be headlining all three nights of the event. Now going by his preferred stage name Ye, West will return to the UK in July for his first live shows since 2015, despite spending the last few years spreading antisemitic rhetoric and harassing Jewish individuals online.

Wireless is predominantly a festival celebrating rap and hiphop music, taking place in London’s Hyde Park. Following supposed leaks and rampant speculation, rumours at the start of the month that Ye would be booked for Wireless were confirmed yesterday by the organisers. Following last year’s format that saw Drake perform at the end of every night, the festival’s only confirmed act so far is Ye across the Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

West’s last headline show at Wireless was in 2014 following Drake’s withdrawal from the bill, but it received negative press for being a poor choice of replacement and for West’s mid-set rant about his treatment by the media. This was followed by a Glastonbury headliner in 2015, currently his last festival show on British soil, that saw a 130,000 strong petition attempt to remove him from the bill due to his egotistical preaching.

Ye’s hate campaign against Jewish people began in 2022, when he first started sharing offensive opinions and antisemitic conspiracy theories on social media. He was suspended by both Instagram and Twitter (now X), as well as losing significant business partnerships with companies like Adidas. More recently, he openly referred to himself as “a Nazi”, in addition to penning the single ‘Heil Hitler’ in 2025 and attempting to release 2026 album ‘Bully’ with a swastika as its artwork. This January, West made an attempt to apologise by purchasing a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal, in which he blamed his bipolar disorder, and reiterated that he loved Jewish people, though this did nothing to dissuade public opinion.

Since the Wireless Festival announcement yesterday, several Jewish rights bodies and activist groups have come out in force against both the festival and West. The Guardian published a statement from the Jewish Leadership Council, a charity protecting Jewish interests in the UK, which reads “It is deeply irresponsible for Wireless festival to be headlining Kanye West. The UK Jewish community is facing record levels of antisemitism, including a terrorist attack in Manchester, the attack on ambulances in Golders Green and foiled plots which would have killed many more. West has repeatedly used his platform to spread antisemitism and pro-Nazi messaging. His most recent apology must be considered in the context that he went on to sell swastika T-shirts and release a song called Heil Hitler after apologising previously. Any venue or festival should reconsider before providing their platform to Kanye West to spread his antisemitism.”

Charity organisation Campaign Against Antisemitism also issued the above message on social media site X, saying “It is disappointing that venues have been so quick to invite someone who was so recently peddling conspiracy theories, Hitler worship and bigoted lies – including now one of the UK’s biggest festival stages. His cycle of apology and relapse has become a routine, and we must wait to see if this time is any different. What is notable is that the latest apology came on the eve of the release of a new album.”

Indeed, despite multiple setbacks, West released ‘Bully’ on the 28th of March, which appears to have shed his hateful messages in favour of concentrating on the music. Wireless have claimed Ye’s “UK comeback will be an extraordinary chapter in Wireless’s story”, which will be told in London’s Finsbury Park from Friday the 10th to Sunday the 12th of July

An alleged insider has told The Sun of a plan to book controversial rapper Kanye West to headline London’s wireless festival – and for all three nights of the event no less. Now going by his chosen name “Ye”, West has been effectively blacklisted by the music industry following several years of hateful commentary, but it has been reported he’s seeking to re-enter the fold of live entertainment.

His music career speaks for itself – his 24 Grammy Awards won and 160 million records sold make Ye one of the most successful US artists of all time. His first six albums are all considered peaks of hiphop, with Rolling Stone featuring all of them on their 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time list. West’s style of socially-conscious melodic rap became a defining sound of the 2000s and 2010s, cited as an inspiration for a new generation, including Drake, Travis Scott, and Nicki Minaj.

However, Ye’s fall from grace has been very public and nigh-impossible to explain. Previously merely a divisive figure, his past discretions faded away with time, be it his public feuds with artists like Taylor Swift or uncomfortable remarks on matters of race. In the 2020’s though, West has made himself possibly the most notorious public figure in music. Blaming factors like his high-profile divorce from TV personality Kim Kardashian and mental health problems stemming from his diagnosed bipolar disease, he has spouted antisemitic bile, harassed hundreds of former professional associates, and engaged in wildly inappropriate public behaviour. His account on social media site X, formerly Twitter, was weaponised to spew offensive claims – in particular disgusting conspiracy theories about Jews, which upset millions around the world and earned him public shaming as a “Nazi”. It is estimated that he lost over $1.4 billion in personal wealth since 2021 due to the damage he inflicted on his working relations with brands such as Adidas.

Despite being considered an untouchable pariah by the entire media industry, news published today implied he could be on the verge of returning to the stage. The article posted by The Sun’s “Bizarre” column editor Ellie Henman tells that a source aware of goings-on at London’s Wireless Festival has leaked discussions to book Kanye for this year’s iteration. The insider is quoted as saying “Ye and his team have been locked in final negotiations about headlining Wireless. The number of nights he’ll be performing is still being ironed out. Drake did three last year and Wireless are hoping Ye will commit to do the same.”

While many would consider it madness to book the artist in the UK again following his negative reception at Wireless in 2014 and the 130,000 strong petition against his Glastonbury headline set in 2015, the insider gives an insight behind the rationale of the booking. “It’s been an incredibly turbulent few years for Ye, but he wants to get back on stage and prove he’s a serious musician. Wireless is a massive festival and for him to return and headline it would be huge. He lost support in the UK over his political views and statements, and he is hopeful this could bring his fans back into the fold. He has apologised profusely for his behaviour over the last few years and he wants a fresh start.”

Whether this reveal will materialise remains to be seen, as Wireless have currently made zero announcements for their 2026 lineup. As it stands the dates are not confirmed either, but are anticipated to fall around the 10th to the 12th of July. You can sign up for further announcements here.

Experimental American hip-hop artist and producer JPEGMafia, known formally as Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks or “Peggy”, is due to perform at Manchester’s Albert Hall on the 31st of January 2025 as part of his ‘Lay Down My Life Tour’. The tour is rumoured to be in support of his upcoming fifth full-length album which is currently untitled.

Hendricks is yet to set a release date for the upcoming LP however he confirmed the news in an Instagram post with the very vague caption ‘album is on the way’. Fans haven’t just been left with breadcrumbs however as the avant-garde rapper dropped the first single lifted from the unreleased record ‘don’t rely on other men’ which is the alternative rappers first solo single since 2021 however it was written in collaboration with and frequent appearance on Peggy’s tracks, FREAKY – an extremely elusive and rarely ever pictured Baltimore rapper.

Hendricks is due to hit the road for his U.S. leg of the ‘Lay Down My Life Tour’ in August which will see him perform in cities all across the U.S. such as LA, Chicago, San Fransisco, Dallas, New York, Orgegan, California and even stop off for a show in Vancouver, Canada however it is speculated that the untitled project won’t be released before then. Lucky for UK fans they don’t all have to scramble for tickets to JPEGMafia’s Albert Hall show as he won’t just be stopping off in Manchester when he touches down in the UK. The rapper has just released tour dates on his Instagram for cities like Glasgow, London, Brighton and Bristol as well as shows all across European cities, including Berlin, Barcelona, Paris, Brussels. For a full list of UK dates, see below.

Ozzy Osbourne, frontman of the legendary British heavy metal outfit Black Sabbath, has taken to Twitter and Instagram to voice his grievances with controversial American rapper, Kanye West. Last night, Kanye West hosted an exclusive listening party for his upcoming album Vultures. Made in collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures’ release has been continually pushed back, with it originally being scheduled for December of 2023.

The track from West’s latest project, ‘Carnival’ seems to feature a brief guitar riff from the Black Sabbath track: ‘Iron Man’. Although the original version of ‘Carnival’ was intended to use Black Sabbath’s iconic ‘Iron Man’ riff, the live show switched this sample to one from West’s own discography. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’s ‘Hell of a Life’ was used in place of ‘Iron Man’. However, ‘Hell of a Life’ is itself an interpolation of Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man’. Speaking on social media Osbourne said: “Kanye West asked permission to sample a section of a 1983 live performance of ‘Iron Man’ from the US festival without vocals and was refused because he is an antisemite”.

Kanye West, as of late, has continually entrenched himself in controversy surrounding his frequent antisemitic outbursts. Speaking last year with far-right conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, West said: “I see good things about Hitler.” Elaborating further, West doubled down by saying: “Every human being has something of value that they brought to the table, especially Hitler”. Kanye West has spent the last year surrounding himself with far-right personalities like the aforementioned Jones, who has recently lost a court case after he popularised a conspiracy theory that suggested that a 2012 shooting that took place in Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary school was a hoax.

Other associates of West include Nick Fuentes, a far-right ethno-nationalist who is recognised by the Anti-Defamation League as a holocaust denier. As reported by Politico, both West and Fuentes attended a dinner hosted by former Republican president Donald Trump in late 2022. West has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump since 2016. Although not Jewish himself, Ozzy’s wife Sharron Osbourne has gone on record with The Jewish Chronicle to say: “My family, my father’s family, my aunt, my cousins, are all Jewish.” In this light, Ozzy Osbourne’s statement that Kanye West’s antisemitic behaviour “has caused untold heartache to many” appears to have affected him on a personal level.

Although Kanye West posted an apology in Hebrew to his twitter page in late 2023 that read: “I sincerely apologise to the Jewish community for any unintended outburst caused by my words or actions.”, West continues to portray himself as an antisemite. Last night’s listening party livestream was cut short after the rapper said: “I’m still crazy, bipolar, antisemite, and I’m still the king”.

Despite his stance against West, Osbourne is not without his own political controversies. In a 1982 interview with Night Flight, a now-defunct American variety show, Osbourne stated that he got his ideas for his live performances from “Adolf Hitler”. The singer went on to say that: “Hitler had a charisma in a bad way and I kind of admired him. He was a freak; he was a lunatic, but he had something about him”.

Whether or not Osbourne’s past comments should be taken seriously, it is clear that he is attempting to distance himself from the antisemitism espoused by Kanye West, signing his tweet off by saying: “I want no association with this man [Kanye West].”

Members of the heavily influential prog-rock group King Crimson and their mechanical rights holder Declan Colgan Music Ltd have taken issue with the rates of recompense for the use of their 1969 hit “21st Century Schizoid Man” from the album titled; In the Court of the Crimson King. The song’s lyrical hook was used famously in Kanye West’s 2010 track “Power” which appeared on “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”. With Members of the band listed within the credits for the song. Since its release via the Universal Music Group Ltd, “Power” has racked up close to 134 million streams on YouTube (as well as millions more across a range of streaming platforms).

As reported in Variety; “When DCM became aware of West’s copyright infringement, they contacted UMG, who — along with West and his production company Rock the World — signed an agreement with DCM two months later legally allowing West to sample the King Crimson track in return for a 5.33% royalty on each copy of “Power” that was sold or “otherwise exploited. According to the terms of the license agreement, UMG are required to pay DCM a royalty on the same terms that West receives royalties from the track. And under the terms of West’s agreement with UMG at the time, the royalty figure for a streaming track was equivalent to that of a track on a physical CD.”

“However, DCM claim in their lawsuit, which was filed in the U.K. High Court last month, that UMG “has failed, and continues to fail, to comply with its royalty accounting obligations in respect of one mode of exploitation, namely the making available of the Power recording to consumers through so-called ‘streaming’ services.”

Essentially, this makes UMG potentially liable to pay back all of the streaming royalties based on the sums they would be receiving through physical CD sales (as was stipulated in the 2010 contract). Yet up until now, UMG has been paying a proportionate percentage of what they receive from the streaming platforms. With Spotify for instance, it is estimated that each stream makes an earning of $0.0033. This therefore means that members of King Crimson have been cultivating far less than what was proposed in the contractual obligation.

The KC guitarist Robert Fripp made his feelings clear in a Facebook post. Stating that he has enlisted the help of Ian Mill QC of Blackstone Chambers, who recently won the case which saw Ed Sheeran charged with plagiarism. You can see Fripp’s post down below:

After legally changing his name to Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West performed a cover of Adele’s recent single “Easy on Me” with his Sunday Service Choir as a tribute to late fashion designer Virgil Abloh it was announced he died of cancer yesterday (November 28th).

Shortly after the news went public, Ye posted a link to a livestream on the Donda Live website via his Instagram story. Those who attended the livestream event were treated to a reasonably low quality, grainy video of the Sunday Service Choir all stood hooded in the dark with a screen displaying the message “In loving memory of Virgil Abloh, creative director of ‘Donda’”. The choir took on a cover of Drake’s “God’s Plan”, as well as a version of “Easy on Me” with reworked lyrics. The original chorus to the song sees Adele sing, “Go easy on me, baby / I was still a child / I didn’t get the chance to / Feel the world around me”. The choir have made changes to say, “Go easy on me, father / I am still your child / And I need the chance to / Feel your love around”.

Virgil Abloh – founder of luxury fashion label Off-White, and artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear – passed away aged 41 after battling with a rare form of cancer known as cardiac angiosarcoma. Abloh’s family made the announcement via his social media, writing, “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and numerous dear friends and colleagues.”.

Adele’s track first track in 5 years “Easy on Me”, released October 15th, had also broken a Spotify streaming record.

Set for January 31st 2022, the 64th annual Grammy Awards have announced a comprehensive list of their nominations across the show’s 86 categories this year. As per every other year, this selection of nominees is not without its standouts; Olivia Rodrigo seems to be dominating with nominations in all 4 of the main categories, its controversies; with comedians Louis CK and Dave Chapelle both receiving dubious nods, and its snubs; see Miley Cyrus and Machine Gun Kelly be unnecessarily disappointed here.

This year’s more prestigious categories in the general field (best album, best new artist, record of the year and song of the year) see a lot of big names, none of which crop up more regularly than Olivia Rodrigo, who has been nominated for each with her viral sensation ‘drivers license’ from here 2021 album Sour. The usual suspects of Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, H.E.R., Taylor Swift, and Kanye West also receive nods throughout the categories. Mercury Prize winner Arlo Parks and recent record breakers Glass Animals also get fitting mentions in the Best New Artist bracket.

The Album of The Year, and Best Rap Song categories also bring their fair share of controversy. Kanye West has been nominated for his effort on DONDA, released earlier this year. These days it’s seemingly impossible for Kanye to go through an album cycle without something landing in the headlines. This time, the spotlight has been placed on his expansive feature list. Specifically, the appearance of recently cancelled Marilyn Manson, who also has a nod for Best Rap Song on West’s track “Jail”. His position on the album has led to many questioning whether or not he should be involved in the award ceremony after being accused of sexual assault by multiple women. The academy’s CEO Mason Harvey Jr. said this about his inclusion, “We won’t look back at people’s history, we won’t look at their criminal record, we won’t look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, is this recording for this work-eligible based on date and other criteria,” he added. “If it is, they can submit for consideration.”.

Jay-Z makes history with this announcement, picking up 2 separate nominations in the Best Rap Song category. Featuring on “Jail” with Kanye West, and “Bath Salts” alongside DMX and Nas, takes the rappers total Grammy nominations up to a record-breaking 83. He surpassed Beatles legend Paul McCartney to take the title after he has only gained 81 nominations so far, renowned producer Quincy Jones sits in 3rd place with a meagre 80 Grammy nominations. Of the 83 nominations Jay-Z has bagged so far, he has won 23.

Many other oddities come from this year’s nominees. ABBA was nominated for the first time in their 48 year careers, BTS fans are shocked at the group’s singular mention despite the group themselves seeming incredibly grateful, and notice a distinct lack of British music on the list. Arlo Parks, Major Lazer, and Paul McCartney are basically the only Brits to land in any major categories. See all the nominations here.

Naming the song as his “best work yet”, Ty Dolla $ign’s new single is an infectiously danceable hip house throwback, with Skrillex’s production channeling the essence of classic samples from Queen Latifah’s “Dance for Me” and Ultra Naté’s “Free”, as well as Mucho Michie’s house remix of Ralphi Rosario and Xaviera Gold’s “You Used to Hold Me”. Playing on the title’s obvious narcotic associations, his verse and twigs’ mirror each other and bookend the song, using ego death as a stand-in for the loss of self one undergoes when in a relationship, and the rebuilding of the self necessary after it ends; Ty still hurting having been left alone, twigs already planning to “rise back up”.

Debuting a full length version way back at Coachella 2019, a leaked mix of “Ego Death” had been floating around the web since March before its official release yesterday just in time for the summer. It’s frankly a tragedy we’ll have to wait so long for it to hit the dance floor. Speaking in a press release, Ty explained that the delay had come about since he “just had to find the right time to put it out”, adding that a new album was on the way.

Despite recording his verse well over a year ago, Kanye has coincidentally just announced his own upcoming album God’s Country after he put the single “Wash Us In The Blood” with Travis Scott on Tuesday. As for new output from twigs we’ll have to wait and see; it took five years for MAGDALENE, the follow up to her acclaimed debut, to arrive last November. But seeing as she teased a new mixtape earlier this year, there’s a good chance it won’t be too long til her next project. Listen to “Ego Death”’s official audio below:

Wireless organisers have announced the lineup for their online festival, Wireless Connect. The ground-breaking event will take place between the 3rd and the 5th of July, in place of the original festival that was cancelled last month.

The lineup includes British urban powerhouses, such as Skepta, Bugzy Malone and Not3s. A host of performers from across the Atlantic, most notably Tyga, Rae Sremmurd and Rich the Kid, makeup the rest of the seventy-act-strong lineup. Wireless Connect will be streamed through the organiser’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. It is also to be shown through the Melody VR app which, through the use of a headset, converts live music into a 360 degree interactive virtual reality experience. The use of VR is a progressive step into the new normal for the festival, as many other mass-gatherings struggle with cancellation following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event’s coordinators believe the virtual festival will be special. The official announcement, published on the Wireless website, bemoaned that they did not get a chance ‘to vibe’ this summer, and that this ‘didn’t sit right’ with festival organisers. Therefore they have ‘stacked‘ the weekend with ‘unseen performances, exclusive footage and much more‘. ‘Get hyped‘, the announcement signed off, ‘for a banging show from some of the hottest US and UK talent‘.

Wireless Festival has always provided fans with the opportunity to experience the very best acts in Grime, Hip Hop and R ‘n’ B. It was founded in 2005 and initially was considered a Pop Rock Festival. The London-based event, under the ownership of global entertainment company Live Nation, has since asserted itself as a pilgrimage for fans of Urban music. Jay-Z, Kanye West, Stormzy and Drake have all headlined the festival since 2010. Wireless Connect appears as a heartening gesture, from the organisers at Live Nation to the festival’s die-hard fans that have propelled its popularity since the turn of the last decade. Whilst their yearly hullabaloo of urban music has been postponed, they thought it only right that Wireless should adapt to the circumstances. Wireless Connect may not be the mud-coated, mosh-filled, cider-soaked festival experience the British public yearn for. However, it ensures fans that Wireless will continue to entertain, no matter the circumstance.
