The event will include material from Weller’s early days and tracks from The Jam but will also include new and unheard music and will be Weller’s first live performance in two years. The event’s setlist includes the tracks ‘English Rose’, ‘Wild Wood’ and the 1995 hit, ‘You Do Something to Me’, taken from his third solo album ‘Stanley Road’. The concert’s inclusion of Weller’s more recent material includes his latest album, ‘On Sunset’, the number one album from 2020.

The event is part of a series by the prestigious London arts centre, The Barbican. The string of events sees The Barbican collaborate with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jules Buckley. The series entitled ‘Live From The Barbican’, has provided concerts during the COVID pandemic since October of last year, beginning with a talk and workshop curated by Emmy the Great.

The Head of Music at the Barbican, Huw Humphreys has spoken on his admiration for Weller as well as The Barbican’s dedication to the arts.

“We are delighted to welcome iconic British artist Paul Weller and guests Celeste, Boy George and James Morrison alongside Jules Buckley and our Associate Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, to the summer edition of our new concert series, Live From The Barbican. The series enabled us to continue our commitment to support artists and partner organisations during a difficult year and at a time when concert halls needed to temporarily close their doors. Until we can welcome back our audiences into the hall very shortly, we are hoping that many Paul Weller fans across the globe will be able to join us at the Barbican via Livestream this May.”

Rising Star Brit award winner Celeste also expressed her delight over working with Weller. “I have found Paul Weller to be such inspiration from afar, and also in the little moments I have spent with him. Wild Wood was a song sung at my first ever gig when I was 16, so to be able to sing it with him now 10 years later feels like a career full-circle moment and I’m truly honoured he’s up for doing it!”

Due to COVID restrictions in place, the event will not be able to host a physical audience but will be live-streamed on The Barbican’s website. The event will also enjoy coverage across multiple BBC platforms including TV, Radio, online, BBC I player and BBC Sounds. On 13th June, the full event will be aired on BBC Radio 2 with highlights broadcasted on Gideon Coe’s show on 17th June. Later on, in June, the event will be broadcasted on television, presented by Edith Bowman on BBC two.

James Morrison has announced that he will be hitting the road, on an 12-date tour of the UK, throughout October and November. The singer will kick start his run of 12 shows, in Ipswich, on the 28th of October 2019, before concluding, in Southend-on-Sea, on the 14th of November 2019. Tickets for the show will go on sale, on Friday the 26th of April 2019, at 10am and can be purchased here.

The soul singer and song-writer got 2019 off to a flying start with the realise of his new album, ‘You’re Stronger Than You Know’, last month, on the 8th of March 2019. Making a triumphant return to music, 2019 is set to a busy year for the soul singer, who has just concluded a spring UK tour and is set to hit the road again this October and November.

Morrison is set to kick off the 12-date tour, on Monday the 28th of October 2019, at Regent Theatre, in Ipswich before heading to venues across the UK including London, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bath, Bournemouth, Woking, Newcastle, and Nottingham. Finally concluding the string of UK shows, on Thursday the 14th of November 2019, at Cliffs Pavilion, in Southend-on-Sea.

‘You’re Stronger Than You Know’, was inspired by the classic soul of the Motown and Stax eras, provides a strong follow up to his previous album, 2015’s ‘Higher Than Here’. You could say that this is the album that Morrison has always wanted to make, while vocally he’s never sounded better, with his honest song-writing inspiring a voice that exudes power, tenderness and experience.

Speaking about his return after four years, Morrison, said: “I’ve been excited to get moving again especially with music that I feel good about. That’s taken me a while to get that together. Even though I’m saying it’s my best album in terms of the sound of it and how it was made and the feeling that I had when I was writing the songs, and putting it together was really natural, I still feel like there’s a better album in me but the format of how it’s presented is my favourite bit of it. I feel excited because (my album) is nothing like what’s getting playing on radio. It’s quite straightforward band in a room really, which you don’t get a lot these days.”

The announcement, that he will be heading out on a tour of the UK, comes as rock group, Kodaline, have confirmed that the singer, will be on of their special guests, for their two shows, in Dublin. Morrison will support the Dublin-born rockers, for the two concerts at St Anne’s Park, in Dublin, on the 31st of May and the 1st of June 2019. He will be joined by Irish artists Flynn and Roe, on Friday the 31st, while Somebody’s Child will join him on Saturday’s performance.

Soul singer/song-writer, James Morrison released his new album, ‘You’re Stronger Than You Know’, yesterday, Friday the 8th of March 2018. The release comes ahead of Morrison’s first UK tour in three years, which is set to commence, in Norwich, on the 25th of March 2019, before concluding, in Essex, on the 16th of June 2019.

The album, inspired by the classic soul of the Motown and Stax eras, provides a strong follow up to his previous release, 2015’s ‘Higher Than Here’. You could say that this is the album that Morrison has always wanted to make, while vocally he’s never sounded better, with his honest song-writing inspiring a voice that exudes power, tenderness and experience.

His latest release sees, Morrison work with one producer, Mark Taylor, which brings a cohesiveness and classic vision. Recorded at the British Grove Studios, in London, provided the perfect location for recording with a balance between vintage equipment and modern technology. The release of the album comes ahead of Morrison’s eight-date UK tour, which will see him heading across the UK, which will include a show, at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, on the 27th of March 2019.

The album was previewed with the release of its lead single, ‘My Love Goes On’, which features Joss Stone.“I always love working with people, especially when they have a wicked voice like Joss. She’s from the same musical heritage as me. I’m excited to celebrate soul music with another artist who is recognised for soul,” says Morrison.

While working on a follow-up to ‘Higher Than Here’, Morrison saw everything around him nearly collapse. His relationship hit tough times and he lost his natural song-writing instinct. His previous label was pushing him to write uplifting music, while he was in the pits of despair.

Writing songs with no particular end goal in mind, Morrison gradually overcame his struggles until he realised that he had a collection of some of the best material of his career that contains both darkness and light. It sees Morrison digging into his emotions over the past four years. It’s particularly striking in the powerful centrepiece ‘Slowly’, in which he questions how to reignite his creativity and tackles his tumultuous upbringing with his parents.

Speaking about his creative freedom with this album and what surprised him, Morrison, said: “There’s one song on the album called Slowly, which I’ve had for four years and I always loved it when I when I first did it. I never put it on the last album and I was thinking it was one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”

“It just sounds really good. It sounds a bit more rocky, I want to get into that side of music a little bit more. Get away from the pop stuff and get a bit heavier. More soulful, more R&B or more heavier rock wise. I’m really getting into the idea of how to get that.”

Warwickshire-born Morrison began his career as a teenager, busking then playing in bars, before finding his breakthrough with his 2006 debut single, ‘You Give Me Something’ from his debut album, ‘Undiscovered’. Since then, Morrison’s soulful singing and song-writing has brought him a BRIT award, two Number 1 albums and seven million sales.
