In a whirlwind of anticipation, tickets to next year’s Glastonbury Festival have sold out in under an hour, leaving thousands of hopeful attendees disappointed. The rush to secure a general admission spot at the world-famous music event began at 9am on Sunday morning, with standard tickets priced at £360.

57 minutes later, however, festival organisers took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that sales were now closed:

“Tickets for Glastonbury 2024 have now sold out. Our thanks to everyone who bought one and we’re sorry to those of you who missed out, on a morning when demand greatly exceeded supply. There will be a resale of any cancelled or returned tickets in spring 2024.”

Tickets for Glastonbury 2024 have now Sold Out. Our thanks to everyone who bought one and we’re sorry to those of you who missed out, on a morning when demand greatly exceeded supply.

There will be a resale of any cancelled or returned tickets in spring 2024.

— Glastonbury Festival (@glastonbury) November 19, 2023

The news left a large amount of empty-handed queuers disgruntled about the stressful buying experience, which requires navigating a holding page that refreshes every 20 seconds and teases ticket availability.

This year’s sale faced a brief delay of two weeks, a decision made by organisers to accommodate individuals who were not aware their initial registrations had expired. The window was reopened from November 6th to November 13th, allowing fans a second chance to secure their spots for the Somerset-based event, which is due to kick off in late June of next year.

The heightened anticipation surrounding Glastonbury 2024 revolves not only around the rapid ticket sales but also the promise of a stellar lineup. Festival organiser Emily Eavis hinted at a “really big” female US singer headlining, sparking rumours that Madonna could be topping the bill at Worthy Farm next year.

Eavis, who faced criticism for the all-male headliners in 2023, has since shut down the speculations in an Instagram post, insisting:

“We are working on the line-up day and night at the moment, but it’s still changing every day. The story about our confirmed headliners is untrue. As always, we love your enthusiasm and guesswork – but accurate news on headliners will be with you sometime in the new year.”

The rise in demand for Glastonbury admission has been a growing trend since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic: last year’s festival saw around two and a half million people vying for 210,000 tickets. Meanwhile, ticket prices have increased to £355 (plus a £5 booking fee), up from £335 in 2023 and £285 in 2022.

British new wave band Duran Duran have been announced as the headliners of Latitude Festival 2024. The festival, which returns to Henham Park in Suffolk next July, will host the Birmingham band’s only UK performance of the summer.

The news coincides with the release of the four-piece’s new gothic-themed album, Danse Macabre, which made its debut at number four in the UK charts and which contains three new tracks, as well as reimagined versions of older material and covers of songs by artists such as Billie Eilish and The Rolling Stones.

Listen to title track “Danse Macabre” below:

On being revealed as Latitude Festival headliners, Bassist Taylor said:

“We are excited to be making Latitude our sole UK performance next summer. It’s a great festival, and it’s been a long time since Duran have been in that part of the country. In fact, it’s our first time ever in Suffolk.”

“We are riding high on the reception our new Danse Macabre album has received, and looking forward to bringing music from that record, all the way back to our 1981 debut album. See you there!”

Meanwhile, Latitude Festival director Melvin Benn commented:

“Duran Duran’s fusion of artistry and innovation seamlessly resonates with Latitude’s commitment to curate a multifaceted cultural experience. Celebrated for their iconic style, ground-breaking music, and a consistent string of chart-topping hits, the band have unquestionably left their mark on both the music and fashion realms.”

He added: “With their ongoing evolution and the ability to transcend musical boundaries, the band’s mesmerising live performances make them an ideal fit for the Latitude festival.”

Renowned for its eclectic mix of culture, art and music, Latitude Festival is an annual event set within the grounds of Henham Park near Suffolk. Next year’s edition – for which a full line-up is scheduled to be announced within the coming months – will run from 25 to 28 July.

Formed in 1978, Duran Duran were one of the biggest pop acts of the 1980s, with hits including “Save A Prayer”, “Rio”, and “Hungry Like The Wolf”. Since then, they have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, garnering countless awards on the way, including two Grammys.

In 2022, Duran Duran’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame rounded off a remarkable year, during which the band graced the stage at the Queen’s Jubilee Concert, brought the Commonwealth Games to a close in their hometown of Birmingham, and performed sold-out shows at both New York’s Madison Square Garden and the iconic Hollywood Bowl.

Festival Republic managing director Melvin Benn, the main promoter of Reading & Leeds festival among others, has teased details of next year’s edition of the hugely popular festival. Speaking to NME regarding the 2024 version of Reading & Leeds, Benn revealed that changes are coming to the festival’s stages, along with teasing possible headliners, ruling out others in the process.

Benn, in referencing the stage changes, told NME, “There are always changes in the artists, but there will be to the stages as well. It’s a mix of all sorts of things, really. I’m not quite ready to announce it yet, but I’m really very excited about it.”

As for the possible headliners for next year’s Reading & Leeds festival, Benn was quick to rule out the likes of Yungblud, Paramore, Dua Lipa, Drake and Queens Of The Stone Age, lightheartedly replying, “You’ve lost a lot of money” in response to the interviewer’s claim of betting on the aforementioned acts to perform at next year’s event.

Others, though, may be well in the mix, including Central Cee, whom Benn has said of, “The trajectory of Central Cee is just incredible. He played Wireless Festival last year and it was an explosion in that sense with a really big crowd compared to what he’d been having. He’s really worked it since then. He’s getting breakthroughs in the US and working with some really important artists, and it just feels like he’s got a great future. I’m not going to say he’s going to be a future headliner because I don’t want to give anyone that burden. I felt like it was a burden I’d given to Foals. They came through with it, but I don’t want to do that again.”

Lewis Calpaldi, who unfortunately had to pull out of this year’s festival, and who was ultimately replaced by The 1975, is always welcome back to perform a headline show at Reading & Leeds, with Benn stating, “I think there will always be an open offer, but at the same time the only thing that needs to be thought about is Lewis’ health. We certainly wouldn’t be having a discussion prior to Lewis’ health being right.”

Rage Against The Machine, however, are a band that are unlikely to feature after cancelling last year, as Benn spoke about their potential return, “It’s not an agenda item at the moment, let’s put it that way. Rage are a US-based act and would very rarely do one-off shows, so it would need to fit in to a lot more scheduling.”

Additionally, Benn has also confirmed that a headliner has in fact been chosen for 2024 already, stating, “We have one of the headliners confirmed, and have had them confirmed for a little while actually. They’ve headlined in the past so we know their strength with it and we’re pleased with that.”

That year she have been given a bigger stage due to her popularity. “We are trying to give her a bigger stage where we can get a larger audience in there. So we are going to move her on to The Other Stage and we are just working out exactly where that’s going to be” festival organiser Emily Eavis commented at the time. Her set has been upgraded from a 10,000-capacity John Peel tent to a 40,000-capacity stage.

Last week Tuesday, Billie Eilish has been seen in London for the premiere of the new James Bond movie ‘No Time To Die‘ for which she wrote the theme song. She appeared on the red carpet with her brother Finneas at the Royal Albert Hall where the celebration took place. While she casually flashed her left hand, she revealed a new tattoo, that seem to be two fairies.

In the meantime, the singer has been confirmed to perform as Sally from Tim Burton’s ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas‘ stop-motion classic from 1993. The upcoming concert will take place in LA at Banc Of California Stadium on 29th October.

In August Billie Eilish hit the top spot in UK Album Charts and secured her second Number 1 album. Happier Than Ever album “clinched the top spot with 39,000 chat sales with 33% of the sales via streams“.

You might now be able to see Eilish at Glastonbury (22-26th June 2022) as the entries have been sold out due to rolled out tickets from this year and last year show. However, the singer starts her UK and Ireland Tour in June 2022.

It has been 12 years since the The Killers last headlined Glastonbury festival, which went down in Glasto history as a bit of a disaster, and left fans and fezzy go-ers feeling deflated. This year they return with a Saturday headline slot on the renowned Pyramid Stage, planning to right the wrongs from their 2007 ‘hiccup’.

It is safe to say that this years Glasto has spirits soaring after the gap Worthy Farm decided to take in their running of the festival; the headliners are more anticipated than ever, and the sun has got thousands of people in extremely high spirits. The Killers plan to take full advantage of their return, and prove to Glasto that they are more than their previous headline set.

Way back then, The Killers lost the battle with technology whilst performing. Brand new sound restrictions had them dazed and confused when their levels seemed exceedingly low as they lost the normally booming energy of the crowd. Frontman Brandon Flowers speaks about this in an interview with NME, “I can feel it physically and I can tell when the volume is not where it should be, because I really thrive on it”.

Flowers is one of the few remaining artists who does not use earpieces during sets, so he can hear the crowd as anybody else would be able to. Due to the unbeknown sound issues, anybody beyond the first twenty rows from the stage was left feeling underwhelmed, after having anticipated a usual blistering and electric Killers set.

Brandon went on to tell NME that he “always wanted to go back. I feel like we’re ready”. Despite only having being half the band they were back in 2007 (two members have retired from touring with the band), The Killers plan to put poetry back in motion, and rightfully reclaim their reputation in rock and roll headliners.

The band have came a very long way since their first ever appearance at Worthy Farm, when they took ‘Mr Brightside’ to the Jon Peel stage with the hope of creating the career that they can now say with pride that they have paved for themselves. After years of providing fans with anthem after anthem, they finally have their well deserved chance to Glastonbury 2019. We wish them luck here at MXDWN!

The rumours are true; Radiohead have been the first confirmed headliners of Glastonbury 2017.

There was speculation that the rock band from America would be headlining the festival at Worthy Farm next year, after the eFestivals website had Radiohead down as “to be confirmed” in its list of potential Glastonbury performers last week, with the Stone Roses and Daft Punk both “strongly rumoured”. The announcement was made through a symbol created on the grass at the site, leaving fans already knowing what was about to happen.

First spotted through a BBC webcam, the logo turned out to be the band’s ‘angry bear’ symbol that dates back to the Kid A album.

The performance will mark the band’s first UK festival appearance in over half-a-decade.

“I’ve grown up with Radiohead and they’re about as good as it gets for me,” organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC. “They’re just in a league of their own aren’t they? Some of my happiest memories at the festival have been watching them play, from headlining in the rain 20 years ago when I was a teenager, to surprise sets in The Park and DJ’ing late night in Shangri-La. We are beyond excited that they’re finally coming back to the Pyramid, it’s incredibly special for everyone here.”

This marks 20 years since they first topped the bill at the Pyramid Stage with their 1997 performance off the back of the runaway success of OK Computer. They last headlined in 2003, and have played ‘secret shows’ at the festival several times since.

It comes as tickets for next year’s festival sold out in just 50 minutes. More than 2 million people tried to get the £238 tickets, with only 135,000 available for the world-famous event.

The festival will not be going ahead in 2018, according to organisers.
