Prog-metal band Tesseract have announced new album War of Being and a huge world tour to go along with it, in what will be welcome news to their scores of fans. The album will be the long awaited follow up to 2018’s Sonder.

— TesseracT (@tesseractband) July 13, 2023

The Milton-Keynes five-piece have been teasing new material for some time now and fans of the band will rejoice at the news that Tesseract will be releasing War of Being 0n 15th September. The group have also just dropped their first single of the new record- accompanied by a video-also called “War Of Being.”

The new album is set to be the band’s most ambitious and conceptual record to date. Tesseract, always a band noted for its intricate musical patterns and originators of the Djent metal style, are continuing their all-immersive, story driven sonic adventures. “War Of Being” is an eleven minute mammoth of a song-the story of which is set in the fictional world of Strangeland. The two protagonist characters ‘ex’ and ‘el’ have crash landed in the world and separated, all while having to face a new foe called ‘Fear’.

For many bands, concept projects can be a hit or miss success but Tesseract are well-versed in the art of telling a compelling story to match their aural capabilities. 2020’s cinematic experience titled, Portals, pushed the band into uncharted waters, as the group filmed themselves performing songs that spanned their entire discography.

Speaking about the new album, bassist Amos Williams said, “War of Being has been all-encompassing for us since late 2019. After I returned home from filming Portals, I found myself in such a deeply introspective headspace. The scale of work and reward from that project kind of set this up to be inevitable. We simply had to try and see how far we could take a concept album with Tesseract.”

Began in 2003 by guitarist Acle Kahney, Tesseract gained world-wide attention with the release of their third studio album Polaris. Since then, the band have been growing from strength to strength, pushing themselves to continue to expand the band’s limits with each release. With a 5 year gap between Sonder and War of Being, Tesseract are ready to pick up where they left off-cementing themselves as one of the most important bands in modern prog-rock.

Tech-Fest has traditionally been a four day on-site camping festival, taking place near Nottingham. The festival’s aim has been to celebrate metal music that is both more tech oriented as well as progressive.

Began in 2011, the festival prides itself on featuring diverse, up and coming bands within progressive and experimental metal that are noted for their innovation and creativity. The festival offers a fully inclusive atmosphere where bands and fans alike have the opportunity to network and share ideas.

Speaking on the future of the festival, the event said, “we are taking this opportunity as a new beginning. The main even will return in a different form down the line.”

Pulling a headlining slot represents a huge opportunity for Loathe who are often cited as one of the most exciting new bands within the UK scene and beyond. Formed in 2011 by guitarist Erik Bickerstaffe, the band signed to SharpTone Records in 2016, re-issuing their first EP Pepare Consume Proceed. From there, the group began grabbing the attention of critics and fans alike, with many praising the sound and experimentation of songs.

Nominated for awards from the likes of Metal Hammer Magazine and featuring on festivals such as Slam Dunk and Download, the band looked set to explode as a major force within the scene when the Covid pandemic struck leaving many bands considering their survivals. The band persevered, releasing songs and projects that sustained interest for listeners before the band had a chance to get back to performing live.

Loathe, often a difficult band to pigeon-hole into one particular genre or sound, have been praised for incorporating elements of electronics to boost the atmosphere of certain songs which many critics have cited as an effective accompaniment to their djenty, industrial sound. This has proved a real positive for the band, allowing them to fit seamlessly on bills with a number of different acts within a variety of genres.

Loathe are now in the midst of working on their next full length release while having recently announced a run of tour dates in the US with Chevelle and Three Days Grace.
