Creamfields will run between August 21 – August 24 2025, perfect for the bank holiday weekend. The dance festival, located in Daresbury (near Liverpool and Manchester) has been running since 1998 with world-class dance artists from around the world. This year is no different, with sets from David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Duke Dumont, Interplanetary Criminal and many more.

This year will see the festival with 2 new stages (Electric Forest and HALO) plus the return of the Teletech Arena. That brings the number of major stages for this year’s festival up to 8, with a total of 30 stages across the entire festival. As well as more stages, Creamfields will debut their new area ‘Downtown’. This is their new entertainment village, including sports and wellness activities to refresh after visiting the stages. This includes football, basketball, mini-golf, bingo and karaoke. Theatre performances and quizzes will also feature at this new area. For the disciplined, the area will also include a fitness centre and a new ‘Culinary Quarter’, filled with healthy options. Creamfields are also introducing their new wellness centre ‘Freshfields’, including a spa, ice-bath, ‘pamper tent’ and hot showers, perfect for a 4 day festival.

Creamfields began as the world-famous Cream nightclub, based in Liverpool. Alongside the Hacienda in Manchester and the Ministry of Sound in London, Cream was a focal point of the 90’s rave scene, launching the careers of DJ’s such as Paul Oakenfeld, Carl Cox and Paul van Dyk. The club launched the first Creamfields festival in 1998 as a one-day festival and instantly became a hit with its lineup. Sadly, Cream closed it’s doors for the final time in 2002 but it’s legacy lives on with Creamfields, now in its 27th year strong.

‘Electric Forest’ is one of the new stages revealed this year. This stage is nestled within the forest (reminiscent of Boomtown) and will provide an intimate space surrounded by nature. This stage will feature sets from the likes of Eats Everything, JWAVE and special guest East End Dubs.

HALO, the other new stage, is an evolution of the Runway stage and provides an immersive, 360° experience. This stage shows the ambition that Creamfields have approached their 2025 festival with. The stage was created by renowned stage and show design studio ‘Lucid Creates’. In an interview with Creamfields, Chris Carr from Lucid states “Creamfields has never underestimated the importance of pushing boundaries with high-end production, keeping their dedicated audience excited and engaged with numerous site upgrades, as well as new arenas and stages year on year. We’re incredibly grateful to be given the space and the opportunity to create such ambitious structures and shows like RUNWAY and now HALO with Creamfields. It’s not an easy thing to pull off, but creating these groundbreaking experiences really is what drives us all”. This stage will feature sets from Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping, Four Tet and others.

Taking to Instagram earlier last week, the London trio – comprised of Romy Madley Croft (guitar, vocals), Oliver Sim (bass guitar, vocals) and Jamie Smith, AKA Jamie xx (beats, MPC record production) – posted a slideshow of photos, revealing a recording setup amongst instruments, captioning: “Last week, in the studio.” It was first reported the group were working on their fourth album back in January 2024. Jamie xx later commented on the album recording process, in the lead-up to his since-released second solo album ‘In Waves’. “We’ve been in the studio again recently and it just feels like old times,” he mentioned, “It’s early days [but] we’re having a good time.”

The interview, which took place with MistaJam on Capital Dance’s evening show, also touched upon the influence that the group members’ respective solo projects would have on their new joint sound. “We’re further apart, I guess, and then when we get back into the studio it is a bit more of a challenge and we have bigger pools to draw from,” added Jamie xx. “I think it’s going to be difficult when we get a bit more into it, but ultimately that is going to make the record better.”

In 2022, the 36-year old beat maker returned with his first new music in two years, releasing ‘LET’S DO IT AGAIN’, followed by his second album, ‘In Waves’, last September. The record featured contributions from both Croft and Sim and was celebrated with a headline performance at London’s Alexandra Palace on September 26.

Smith’s solo projects is just one-third of the independent ventures of The xx – Romy Madley Croft released her debut album ‘Mid Air’ in 2023, which received widespread acclaim for its euphoric blend of club-ready beats and emotional lyricism. Her singles, including ‘Strong’ and ‘Enjoy Your Life’, have resonated with fans and critics alike. Meanwhile, Oliver Sim has also made a strong impression as a solo artist with his debut record ‘Hideous Bastard’ (2022), a deeply personal and critically acclaimed project that combines dark, cinematic pop with introspective storytelling.

Forming in 2005, The xx have been the face of British indie electronic for the past two decades. To date, the group have delivered three studio albums: their 2009 debut ‘xx’, which won the Mercury Music Prize, 2012’s ‘Coexist’, and their most recent release, ‘I See You’, which arrived in 2017.

Whilst the new announcement has, as of yet, no set release date, Jamie xx told Rolling Stone UK in regards to a 2025 album, that “it would be nice but I’m prone to very long stints of recording so we’ll see.”

“We are devastated to announce the unbelievable and shocking news that our beautiful Danielle Moore has died in sudden and tragic circumstances,” Crazy P said. “We need time to process that this has happened. Danielle lived a life driven by love compassion community and music. She lived the biggest of lives. We will miss her with all our hearts.”

Crazy P had most recently performed in late August in two gigs at Lincolnshire festival Lost Village on Sunday 25 August, before performing again at Etherow Country Park near Stockport the following day. Prior to this, the group had played a run of shows alongside Irish electropop singer-songwriter Roisin Murphy. Reacting to the news, Murphy wrote on social media: “One of the most beautiful souls has left us. The brilliant Danielle Moore of Crazy P has died suddenly and she has taken so much light with her. One of the best in music, an amazing person and an amazing singer, performer and songwriter.”

Crazy P, originally known as Crazy Penis, was formed in 1995 by Chris Todd and Jim Baron at the University of Nottingham. The bandhas cultivated a unique style of laid back electronic dance music, blending elements of deep house and downtempo with disco motifs. Lyrically, the band has defied the norms of the genre, not shying away from social and political commentary on their recent releases.

“I don’t usually write my lyrics in advance, as I feel they’re expressed better in tandem with the music, which seems to help tap into my subconscious. What came out on several tracks was Brexit, the state of UK politics and the way I feel about divisive, abhorrent manipulation by certain media outlets,” Moore said in 2019 about the release of the band’s latest album Age of the Ego.

The band became known for their energetic live performances and has built a strong fanbase, particularly in Australia where they have toured extensively. In 2008, they officially shortened their name to Crazy P to avoid controversy and broaden their appeal.

Their debut album, A Nice Hot Bath With…, was released in 1998, followed by The Wicked is Music in 2002. Moore joined the group in in 2002, marking a significant evolution in their sound, adding a new layer of depth to their music. Since Moore’s addition, Crazy P had released several albums, including 24 Hour Psychedelic Freakout (2003), A Night on Earth (2005), and Age of the Ego (2019), which Exclaim! Magazine praised as “refined, mature and socially aware, Age of the Ego is an all-inviting conscious party.”

To accompany the announcement of the new album he previewed it with new single ‘FLY’ which features vocals from Cherish. You can listen to ‘FLY’ below.

According to Dork the producer’s new project marks a departure from the usual pop-oriented sound and a move towards something darker and more club oriented. According to Rolling Stone when discussing the new album in a statement Mura Masa said: “Curve 1 is ultimately a manifestation of an attitude I’ve been cultivating in my personal life; ignore everything. All the content, all of the attention economy, all of it. In doing that, the really meaningful and vital parts of what’s around you make themselves known and unignorable, demanding your energy.”

‘Curve 1′ is set to be Mura Masa’s first release as an independent artist via his own record label and he said that he “wanted it to be as free and anti-narrative as possible. Impressionistic.” He continued saying that “Music as entertainment has in many cases, to me, become very advertorial and excessively sentimental in terms of creating narrative around albums and artists. I wanted to strip this away as much as possible to leave room for the music to create its own meaning in the lives of people who form connections with it.”

It’s hard for me not to explain away the intricacies and ideas contained within these records after having theorised and tolled and executed them over the course of nearly three years, but I think it’s far more fitting of the album’s intent to say simply: listen to it in the dark.”

Leading up to this announcement of a new album Crossan has released a number of new singles including ‘Still’ back in March which saw British pop hero Griff provide vocals. He’s also released ‘We Are Making Out’ which saw him collaborate with yeule and he shared singles ‘rise/gimme’, ‘Drugs’, and ‘Whenever I Want’.

He also helped co-write and produce a number of songs for other artists in recent years as well as his own music. Including producing global hit ‘Boy’s a Liar pt.2′ by Ice Spice and Pink Pantheress as well as co-writing the latter’s single ‘Turn It Up’. He’s also recently opened a creative hub in Peckham, London called The Pond which is officially supposed to launch next year.

Elsewhere Mura Masa is set to be playing a DJ set at Field Day 2024 in Victoria Park, London next month. Justice and Pink Pantheress will be headlining this year’s event.

A self-titled posthumous album from SOPHIE is set to be released later this year and it will be the final project we hear from SOPHIE. The record is set to be released on the 27th of September via Future Classic and Transgressive records. The album marks the second full-length LP from the beloved Scottish producer, and the first and only release since her tragic death in 2021.

This will be the follow up to her acclaimed debut in 2018, ‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ and according to her family was close to completion when SOPHIE passed away in 2021 and has been completed by the Scottish artist’s family and close friends and close collaborators such as her studio manager and co-producer Benny Long. The first preview of the project was released on the 24th of June and is titled ‘Reason Why’, and it features Kim Petras and BC Kingdom and was produced by Benny Long.

In a statement SOPHIE’s family has said that “When we, Sophie’s family, took our first steps towards bringing this project to fruition we contacted the dear friends with whom she envisioned the album. We wrote, “We have been finding comfort in the music Sophie left us, it is a gift that we truly cherish as we try to find a way forward, with Sophie forever at the centre of our worlds.”

They continued telling us that “Sophie didn’t often speak publicly of her private life, preferring to put everything she wanted to articulate in her music. It feels only right to share with the world the music she hoped to release, in the belief that we can all connect with her in this, the form she loved most.”

They also said that “This album has always told the story of Sophie’s musical journey, a cacophony of skill and creative vision eclipsing time and genre.” and that this work emphasises “contradictions of sound and material, Sophie’s work supersedes the pure aural to create the dimension she dreamed of.”

They concluded that “Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found.”

SOPHIE was 34 when she died in a tragic accident when she fell from a hotel rooftop in Athens, Greece in January 2021.

Born in Glasgow, SOPHIE initially rose to prominence as a producer as part of the pop production team PC Music. She worked with superstars including Madonna, Diplo, Petras and Charli XCX. She found her own audience with her debut single ‘Nothing More to Say’, which she released in 2013 and followed up with ‘Bipp’ and ‘Lemonade’. She released her debut album, ‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-insides’ to critical acclaim in 2018 and this saw her nominated for the Grammy for best dance/electronic album. As well as this she has credits as a writer and producer in various hits, including Madonna’s ‘Bitch’ and Charli XCX’s ‘Vroom Vroom’. ‘So I’ from Charli XCX’s latest album ‘Brat’ was dedicated to the Scottish producer and how XCX saw SOPHIE as a guiding light

He was a member of the hit 90s dance music trio Dario G which formed in Cheshire in the 1990s. The group was originally a duo with Spencer and his counterpart Scott Rosser having met at university in Manchester. They began their journey into electronic beats in Spencer’s home in Cheshire and it wasn’t long before two became three and third member Stephen Spencer was invited to join the ensemble. Despite popular conceptions Paul and Stephen had no relation to each other.

At the beginning of their formation Dario G were forced to change their name from the original Dario to how they are known today due to the danger of running into legal troubles at the hands of an artist carrying the same name. The group decided to decided on a name that paid tribute to both the manager of Crewe Alexandra F.C at the time, Dario Gradi, as well as adding the G in honour of jazz artist Kenny G.

The group released ‘Sunchyme’ in 1997 which became a massive hit earning itself the number 1 spot on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Party chart. It was only kept from reaching number one in the UK by ‘Candle in the Wind’ which was a tribute to Princess Diana by Elton John at the time of her death. ‘Sunchyme’s’ popularity was only exemplified by the fact it sold over 600,000 copies just in the UK alone. They then released their second record breaker ‘Carnival de Paris’ which, according to an article by the BBC, “became an unofficial anthem of the 1998 World Cup in Paris, and was later re-released for the 2002 tournament.” Both singles featured on Dario G’s debut album which just celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.

Dario G released three albums throughout their career, only one of which can be accredited to the full trio as after the release of their first album ‘Sunmachine’ the trio disbanded with Scott Roser and Stephen Spencer leaving to take up various other projects. Paul Spencer became a solo artist but still continued under the name Dario G, releasing two more albums ‘In Full Colour’ in 2001 and his most recent work ‘Hola’ in 2020. Spencer was due to play a show at the Chris Moyles 90s Hangover concert in May but had to pull out due to poor health. He will be missed by many.

She said they have had time apart to “learn new skills, get new musical ideas and experiences and compare them” and that “it’s cool to learn from each other again.” If this time in the studio comes to an album, as a lot of XX fans will be hoping, it would be their first LP since 2017’s ‘I See You’.

British producer, DJ, and designer, Joseph Thornalley, commonly known as Vegyn, has released a new single on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music. Vegyn is known for his glitchy electronic dance rhythms. Releasing his first Album All Bad Things Have Ended – Your Lunch Included in 2014, Vegyn exploded in popularity after his work with Frank Ocean. After meeting Ocean at the now-defunct London nightclub, Plastic People, Thornalley was invited to collaborate with Frank Ocean and his team on projects scheduled to release in 2016. Vegyn worked with Frank on Endless, a visual album released exclusively on Apple Music, and then subsequently on a limited physical press in 2016. Following Endless, Vegyn collaborated with Ocean again on Blonde, Frank Ocean’s best-selling album so far.

Since 2016, Vegyn has been a prominent producer, working with alternative Hip-Hop artists like JPEG MAFIA, featuring production on his third studio album All My Heroes Are Cornballs. Vegyn’s talents have also touched the mainstream, collaborating with Travis Scott on the wildly successful 2018 album Astroworld.

Outside of his collaborations with big-name American hip-hop and R&B artists, Vegyn has released a steady stream of solo albums, EPs, and singles. Since the release of his latest album, The Head Hurts but the Heart Knows the Truth, in May of 2023, Vegyn has released three singles, the most recent of which was released today (January 16). ‘The Path Less Travelled’ is a laid-back bouncy track that features Vegyn’s signature digital glitchy soundscape layered on top of melodic piano chords, and snappy drum rhythms.

‘The Path Less Travelled’ is the third single released in the run up to his sixth full album THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH GOOD INTENTIONS. Posting on Instagram, Vegyn announced THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH GOOD INTENTIONS, along with the full thirteen-song track list.

Speaking with Gadfly Magazine about his creative process in June of 2023, Thornally said “I like electronic music because there aren’t as many tethers to conventional structures—it’s so much more fluid.” This approach to music production has led to the development of Vegyn’s unique, genre-defying, electronic compositions. Thornalley continues to prove himself as one of the most creative and distinctive producers in the UK electronic scene. With the release of ‘The Path Less Travelled’, ‘Halo Flip’, and ‘Makeshift Tourniquet’, Thornalley’s upcoming album is gearing up to be one of his best so far.

Aphex Twin (FKA Richard D. James) is set to release his first EP since 2019 on July 28th 2023. Last month (June 2023) the enigmatic electronic musician shared the single “Blackbox Life Recorder 21f” (via Warp Records) teasing listeners with a post-techno taster of his forthcoming EP Blackbox Life Recorder 21f/In a Room7 F760. A pleasantly moody and meditative track, “Blackbox Life Recorder 21f” is a carefully crafted cacophony of danceable calmness, its release marks AFX’s first musical output since 2019’s T69 Collapse EP.

Amidst the wheeze of idiosyncratic synth leads, gooey bass parps and skittish yet hyper-danceable polyrhythmic drum programming, AFX manages to conjure one of his most delicate melodies to date, at times it even sounds as if RDJ’s synthesised and re-pitched his own voice, embedding himself within the tracks groove as though he were an audible apparition haunting ear drums from beyond the rave. The singles cover artwork (as well as the EP) was created in tandem with frequent AFX collaborator Weirdcore. The digital sleeve depicts what appears to be a mosaic of Menger Sponges festooned with Aphex Twin’s legendary logo.

The release of “Blackbox Life Recorder 21f” came after a slew of opaque online occurrences that were ostensibly orchestrated by the Cornish musician. Earlier this year what began as message board murmurings and group chat rumours of a headline appearance at Field Day Festival 2023 were confirmed when a new website entitled 190823.co.uk popped up online.

Curious Aphex acolytes who clicked the web link were rewarded with a wash of undulating pixels dribbling down their screens before morphing into a digital poster adorning the illustrious Irish ‘IDM’ composers iconic ideogram (7\) confirming him as one of Field Day Festival’s co-headliners alongside fellow British beat-mangler Bonobo. Warp Records divulged further, posting a nine date UK/EU Summer tour poster across their socials.

After a five year musical hiatus spent pursuing a plethora of other projects, including programming a sound design app, teaming up with tech companies to create experimental micro-tonal software synth plugins and even releasing his very own AFX NFT (complete with secret audio info encrypted within) the proceeds of which went towards “planting trees and donating to permaculture projects“, RDJ has been busy boy indeed.

The Blackbox Life Recorder 21f/In a Room7 F760 EP consists of four tracks and will be released on July 28th through Warp Records.
