Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time is a series of day long festivals that take place in London’s Hyde Park, during, you guessed, summer. The headliners for this year have been particularly impressive so far, with Kendrick Lamar and Florence and the Machine headlining the 2nd of July, Mumford & Sons on July 7th, Take That taking over July 8th and now Massive Attack have been announced as the headliners of the first in the series of summertime gigs.

The Bristolian trip-hoppers Massive Attack are to “bring a new and provocative audio-visual live show to Hyde Park”, the festival announced in a statement, with the set being designed by Robert Del Naja and visual arts collaborators United Visual Artists.

They will also be joined by a solid lineup of supporting acts performing on the day, including Warpaint, Ghostpoet, Patti smith, TV on the Radio and Mercury Prize winners and recent Massive Attack collaborators Young Fathers. Tickets go on general sale on Friday, March 11th.

The other lineups include Jamie XX, Blood Orange, Cat Power and jazz virtuoso/Kendrick Lamar collaborator Kamasi Washington supporting Kendrick and Florence. Meanwhile Mystery Jets, Wolf Alice, Alabama Shakes and Baio of Vampire Weekend will play on Mumford And Sons’ day.

Morrissey is ‘seriously considering’ running for Mayor of London, he has announced in a blog post on his fan site True To You.

In the post he claims to have been invited to run as the London Mayoral candidate for the Animal Welfare Party in the upcoming 2016 London Mayoral Elections. If the ex-Smiths singer and staunch animal rights activist gets the 330 signatures of support required to enter the race then we could be seeing him in contention for the mayor’s office with Labour’s Sadiq Khan and the Conservative’s Zac Goldsmith.

Morrissey claimed that “Animal welfare groups cannot persist simply in order to continue to persist.” He went on to say that: “There must be a governmental voice against the hellish and archaic social injustice allotted to animals in the United Kingdom simply because those animals do not speak English […] we cannot just sit around waiting for establishment enlightenment.”

In his statement the Meat is Murder songwriter wielded his typically strong rhetoric when discussing the imperative to embrace veganism. Some choice cuts include him saying: “if you are a part of the milk-drinking population, then you condone systems of torture”, and that “If animal serial killer Jamie Oliver feels so passionate about including ‘kid meat’ (young goat) into the human diet, would he consider putting forth one of his own kids (children) for general consumption?” You can read his full statement here.

If Morrissey is successful in becoming mayor, he will follow Boris Johnson, who has been Mayor for two terms since 2008. The London mayoral election will take place on May 5th 2016.

The band that kick-started Miles Kane’s career, The Little Flames, are set to release an album that has until now been lost in the vaults of unreleased music (nestled somewhere in between Detox and Songs from the Black Hole we presume).

The Day Is Not Today was supposed to be The Little Flames’ debut album, after releasing a string of singles. The band recorded the album with producer Tore Johansson in Sweden, but split in pursuit of other projects in 2007 – before the album ever managed to see the light of day.

Speaking to Live4Ever Miles Kane said “I’m excited to finally be able to drop the needle in this particular groove, I had a lot of good times with The Flames and I have very fond memories of making this record.”

He continued by saying: “Every time I listen to these songs I think of Alan Wills and I’m forever grateful for the opportunity he and Joe Fearon gave me. I’m delighted that everyone is able to now hear what we collectively created.”

The album is now finally getting a release as part of the re-launch of indie-label Deltasonic. The Day is Not Today is getting a release this Friday, March 4th 2016 (which is not today), and for vinyl lovers, the album is getting pressed on coloured wax for Record Store Day on April 16th. Meanwhile Miles Kane and Alex Turner’s supergroup The Last Shadow Puppets’ album Everything You’ve Come to Expect is out April 1st.

Arcade Fire are set to receive Allan Waters Humanitarian Award at 2016’s Juno Awards gala (a bit like Canada’s Brits or Grammys), for their efforts in helping the peoples of Haiti.

The Montreal band have won six Juno awards before for their music, but this time they are being honoured at the annual awards evening for raising over $9.6million for the Haitian people, as well as for being actively involved with the training of volunteers.

Arcade Fire singer and multi-instrumentalist Régine Chassagne, who is also married to lead vocalist Win Butler, was born in Quebec to parents of Haitian origin. Her parents emigrated from Haiti to escape the dictatorship of François Duvalier in the 60s.

“It is an honour. We are very thankful,” Chassagne said in a statement about the awards. “It helps us continue the work.”

The band began their humanitarian efforts in Haiti back in 2006 when the band donated $1 for every ticket sold to Partners in Health, a nonprofit organization that “strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.” Since then Régine Chassagne has also co-founded the Haiti Charity KANPE in 2010, and Chassagne and Butler have even announced plans to release a Haitian themed restaurant in Montreal.

Muse have been announced as the second headline act of Glastonbury 2016, taking to the Pyramid Stage on Friday at this year’s festival.

The announcement comes a little over a week after the first headline announcement was made, with Coldplay being announced as closing the festival on the Sunday. It also follows months of speculation and rumours implying the bookings of both bands.

The band announced their appearance at Glastonbury via twitter, tweeting “Playing a little show at home” a long with a short compilation of their Glastonbury performances: 2004, 2010 and a clip of an empty Worthy Farm for 2016.

Playing a little show at home… pic.twitter.com/owCTPGa9v1

— muse (@muse) February 26, 2016

Muse have had a good year so far, having just won a Grammy for last years Drones album. Muse have also been touring their album worldwide, in their typically spectacular fashion. The shows have so far included a revolving stage, holograms and a swarm of drone UFOs.

With two headliners now announced, speculation is ramping up as to who the final headliner will be. Two major contenders are Adele and Radiohead. Both have Glastonbury shaped holes in their schedules, with the former having seemingly conquered her fear of crowds and Radiohead having a new album set for release immenently, both are bookies favourites. Although going by Radioheads fondness for turning up to Glastonbury and playing anything but the Pyramid stage, there’s still a good chance both acts might have their spaces on the bill.

Other acts also announced for Glastonbury include ELO, who will play the Legend Slot and the 2x Mercury Prize winner PJ Harvey.

Glastonbury Festival will take place from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June at Worthy Farm this year.

All four members and the manager of British indie band Viola Beach were killed in a car crash in Södertälje, Sweden during the early hours of Saturday, February 13th.

The band, comprised of guitarist/lead vocalist Kristian Leonard, 20, guitarist River Reeves, 19, bass player Tomas Lowe, 27, drummer Jack Dakin, 19, and manager Craig Tarry, 32, were tragically killed when the car plunged 82ft from a highway bridge into a canal.

Viola Beach formed in Warrington in 2013, but the final line-up was formed in May 2015, with River Reeves and Tomas Lowe joining original members Kristian Leonard and Jack Dakin. The band released their first single ‘Swings and Waterslides’ in August 2015, and was added to the BBC Radio 1 Playlist in September. The band also played the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leads Festival that year, and were set to break out into stardom.

The family of guitarist River Reeves said: “We are all heartbroken following River’s tragic death and the circumstances which have seen him lose his life alongside the bandmates and manager he adored and loved being with. Viola Beach were on such an exciting journey and River could not have been happier. He would have loved to have stuck around for the party.”

Kristian Leonard’s family said in a statement: “Words cannot express the sadness we feel at the loss of our precious Kristian. He was doing the job he loved and will be missed so much by his family and friends.”

Tributes poured out from people in the music industry that had known the band too, with Radio 1 DJ Huw Stevens saying: “So sorry to hear the news about Viola Beach and their manager. The saddest news. Thinking of all their families at this awful time.”

The question now is Pablo who? Infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar? Renowned Chilean author/statesman Pablo Naruda? Pablo Honey? No one is quite sure, and West isn’t telling yet.

One theory with a lot of credence, is the that it is late cubist pioneer Pablo Picasso, given that Kanye West has compared himself to the artist on more than one occasion -the last time during his address to the Oxford Guildhall.

TMZ caught up to the adopted great grandson of Pablo Picasso, Florian Picasso, to ask him what he thought of Kanye’s potential tribute to the late great. In the short interview “I think it’s amazing that he’s paying tribute to [Pablo Picasso’s] work,” and that the family would give him their blessing, and extended an invitation to the rapper to visit the Musée Picasso in Antibes, France like his fellow Hip Hop Alumni Jay Z did back in 2014.

Asked if there were any similarities between Kanye and Picasso, Florian said “They both have vision. They both want to revolutionise the game. Pablo Picasso was into art and Kanye is into music. The way they think outside of the box is very similar.”

Kanye revealed the album title via a picture of the tracklist on Twitter on Thursday, and later that day released the artwork for the album Twitter too. You can check out both tweets below:

Elton John will be working with The Killers on their forthcoming album, he has revealed in promotional clip for Shazam.

In the clip John talks about his new album, Wonderful Crazy Night, saying that he was “inspired by the fact I want to make a joyous record”, and continued by saying “the next album might be really all miserable songs, I love writing miserable songs, it’s great. But this one I wanted to be happy because I feel happy, I’m in a really great place in my life.”

Towards the end of the interview John revealed his collaboration with The Killers, saying “I’m hoping to go to Vegas and write with Brandon [Flowers] for the new Killers record, so that will be interesting.” The Killers frontman is a big Elton John fan, and was interviewed by the ‘Tiny Dancer’ singer on his Beats radio show. You can watch both clips below:

Talking about the upcoming Killers album, Flowers recently told NME “I think if we can just get on the same page and really apply what we’ve learnt from over a 1000 shows now and playing clubs and stadiums and all of that and really apply what we’ve learnt over the years that’s what I’m excited about.” He added “We never really set out to do anything, you just sort of wait for lightning to strike. That’s the best way, but it’s elusive, ol’ lightning.”

Death Grips have dropped a new song called ‘Hot Head’, the first track to be released from their forthcoming album The Bottomless Pit.

‘Hot Head’ was posted on their Facebook page as a Youtube link with a message simply stating “NEW TRACK”; the Youtube video was just the song with a black screen. The description on Youtube provided a free download link to the song, hosted on their own label Third Worlds’ website.

The song is the first taste of their new album The Botomless Pit. True to enigmatic form, very little is known about the new album, other than the fact that it is coming out in 2016, and that it might involve the late actress Karen Black – who drummer/producer Zach Hill had written a part for a screenplay for before she died.

Their new song ‘Hot Head’ launches into a barrage of techno-breakcore madness and stuttering shouting, before taking a breath for air amongst rippling synths, only to plunge once more into the relentless flurry of drums, vocals and twisted samples. The song sounds very reminiscent of the cryptically titled ‘Death Grips 2.0′ which closed 2015’s The Powers That B. you can listen to the song below:

Bottomless Pit is also the first album since their double album The Powers That B, which the band had touted as their last ever album when ‘breaking up’ Via napkin. Although when leaking their ‘final’ album, the band commented “you’re right, we might make some more”; although its unlikely anyone following Death Grips’ public actions doubted as much.
