Lewis Capaldi wowed fans this year by returning to Glastonbury Festival for a surprise, unannounced performance after a long two-year break. The ‘Before You Go’ singer performed his show-stopping GRAMMY nominated single ‘Someone You Loved’ for the eager crowd, who screamed the emotional ballad along with him.

The heart-wrenching pop track was co-written with RØMANS, who he has also worked with on his new single ‘Survive’. Capaldi shocked the audience performing this brave new track of strength and vulnerability during a time of mental health struggles for the singer. His emotions culminated to the touching moment at Glastonbury 2023 when the Pyramid crowd carried the artist through a difficult performance of ‘Someone You Loved’.
In the new single’s music video, Capaldi’s voice soars over clips of his lowest moments, in a moving expression of self-doubt and resilience. And this was all the more immense at his Glastonbury performance this year. The singer introduced the song saying “I’ll be honest, the last three years haven’t been the best”, to which the crowd immediately roared their screams of support. He then went on to say “It was about, like, overcoming that stuff and getting over to the other side of it[…] this has been my fucking goal, to get back here, doing this. So, this is a song about that.”
Capaldi then stirred the crowd with soft acoustics and breath-taking vocals that his fans love.

Released only yesterday (27 June), the song has already amassed over 1 million streams and has been featured on nearly 40 New Music Friday playlists on Spotify. The release comes after his latest UK Number 1 album ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’, and his equally revealing Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, which was nominated for a GRAMMY award for Best Music Film.
Ahead of his triumphant Glastonbury return, Capaldi has been at the forefront of mental health campaigns. The pop sensation supported the mental health charity CALM as a guest performer with a series of shows during Mental Health Awareness Week.
His return was also spotted on a promotional truck driving through Glasgow. One fan remarked “Lewis Capaldi back with a banger and a truck”
