This project comes 3 years after his last project Project Purple which was released in 2019 and featured tracks such as “Off he Record 3”, “Pricey” featuring Once Acen and “Comfortable” alongside UK legend Dappy. The project came in a year where the artist released only 2 singles those being “Comfortable” which featured on the project and “Ms Diva” which was arguably the bigger single of the pair but never made it onto the project.

Yungens new project comes as the rapper makes a return after a 2-year hiatus. The return has seen the rapper appear on GRM Daily’s Daily duppy platform as well as two singles titled “Popstar” and “Batmobile”. Yungen’s newest release has a tracklist that features 12 songs, including his 3 previous releases this year with an added Ghetts feature on the track “Batmobile”. The remaining 9 songs are listed as “Passionate”,” Tom Brady”, “Monopoly”, “Come in 3s”, “Boyz in the Hood” featuring Avelino, “Make It Out”, “Trials and Tribulations” featuring fellow Play dirty members Krepy and Konan, “Grieve” and the final track “Paranoid”.

Yungen is a certified legend in the UK rap scene and has been around for over 10 years, he has released classic UK hip hop tracks such “Aint on Nothin” featuring Sneakbo, as well as commercial hits such as “Bestie” alongside Yxng Bane, which peaked in the charts at 10th and spent 31 weeks in the charts when released back in 2017. Yungen took a long break and for fans wondering where he has been his new project is what the rapper claims to be “Very Personal” and will hopefully give fans a better insight into the rapper’s last 2 years.

Yungen’s new project Passionate and Paranoid is available here.

The 29-year-old stepped up to the platform and covered a few topics including his lack of awards, not being brought up when people are making UK rap top 10 lists and flexes on listeners with the success he has amassed.

Before Yungens hiatus the rapper was putting out a number of singles and hits alongside artists from the UK scene, between 2017 adn 2019 he worked on tracks alongside Craig David, One Acen, M24, Dappy, Jess Glyne, Not3s, Mr Eazi, Mo Stack and Yxng Bane. Yungen had a number of hits such as his track “Beste” which he released in 2017 alongside Yxng Bane the track was one of the earliest tracks to come from the UK rap scene and have such commercial success, peaking on the charts at 10th and spending 31 weeks on the charts, as well as chart success the track also sits on just over 77 million Spotify streams. His track alongside Mr Eazi, Mo Stack adn Not3s was a steel Bnaglez track adn the song titled “Bad” reached 29th on the carts and sits on 55 million Spotify streams.

Yungen has been rapping for over 10 years and despite what he says in his Daily duppy, to real fans of UK rap is a legend within the scene. His career has seen his connection with fellow south London rappers Krept and Konan with Yungen being an official member of the Play dirty collective, he has also been involved in classic rap beef with grime star Chip in 2016 with the pair sending diss track back and forth.

Rapper Yungen has released a single to pay tribute to Liverpool FC’s first Premier League title win in thirty years. The track is named Mane and Salah, in homage to two of the football team’s key players.

The video flits between shots of him celebrating with friends, and landscape visuals of the rapper outside the club’s home, Anfield. Naturally, Yungen wears a Liverpool shirt throughout and poses with a replica of the trophy. The Premier League title was wrapped up by The Reds, after Chelsea beat title rivals Manchester City on Thursday. The artist took to Instagram Live to express his immediate elation, claiming that it was ‘the happiest [he] has ever been‘. He later announced the single, via Twitter, accompanied by a caption exclaiming ‘TO CELEBRATE THE NEWLY CROWNED PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS‘. As well as the track’s title players, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, Yungen uses a combination of metaphors and wordplay to salute other members of the Liverpool squad such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

There is a unique relationship between the British rap scene and the sport of football. AJ Tracey was the face of Tottenham Hotspur’s kit launch in 2017, and Stormzy has performed at the home of his beloved Manchester United. Football is played and watched religiously within the urban communities from which the majority of the scene stems, therefore performers idolise the players and vice versa. The result is a cross-section between two of British culture’s biggest stalwarts, and an artistic platform that often emphasises the importance of the sport.

Yungen’s new single is evidence of this. A big name in modern grime, he rose to prominence after his SBTV freestyle. His greatest success to date was the 2018 platinum single Bestie, which featured Yxng Bane, and peaked in the UK top 10. He has also earned critical acclaim with a MOBO nomination for Best Newcomer in 2015. He has released two studio albums to date, Project Black and Red (2014) and Project Purple (2019).

The single Mane and Salah may not threaten the charts, but Yungen will not be bothered. It was not made to earn money or please his fans, but to celebrate the success of his favoured club. The Red’s title win was a monumental effort after thirty years of hurt, and so the reason behind the rappers elation are obvious. The relationship between the British rap scene and football is unique, and therefore Yungen’s track is the perfect medium to display the pride he feels at his team’s achievements.
