A Day In A Yellow Beat is the second studio album from Yellow Days. The album follows the spectacular Is Everything Okay In Your World?, the 2017 released record that skyrocketed Yellow Days to his now globally-known status. 

A Day In A Yellow Beat is composed of twenty three genre-defying, mind-bending songs. The hallicinatory record is hard to pin down, sprawling with warbling guitars, jazz-infused instrumentals, 70s disco-soul, monumental instrumentals, all coated with a shiny layer of indie-synth.

‘A Day In A Yellow Beat’ OUT NOW <3 It’s nearly 3 years since ‘Is Everything Okay In Your World?’ this whole time I’ve been pushing myself as hard as I can to try to imagine a new style of music- something that will truly last forever. Anyone who knows me in my personal life knows I spend every day morning till night devoted to that task and to music & all its beauty. I’m a self taught musician and have spent my musical career thus far in a personal bubble, this record I worked with some amazing cats who all mean a lot to me, they enjoy my compositions & understand my musical ambitions and they have helped me take my parts and add their authenticity to it. Thank you for staying tuned during such an odd time for humanity, one of the main messages of this record is to show outward love & to ignore the creatively suppressive forces that be and to be a flower <3

In an official statement, Yellow Days said that the album is “ironic dance music...full of depressing truths about feeling distant from your friends or a sense that nothing is worth anything.” This certainly rings true on the catchy, anxiety-ridden tracks Be Free and The Curse, where Yellow Days’ profound, depressive lyricism pierces you with emotion. 

Yellow Days has certainly enlisted a diverse collection of collaborators for A Day In A Yellow Beat. From working with Shirley Jones of The Jones Girls on the Studio 54 sounding track, Who’s There, to the ice cool rap track “!” with New York rapper Bishop Nehru, to the Nick Walter collaboration Open Your Eyes, Yellow Days’ latest body of work is one for the books!

Yellow Days, real name George Van Den Broek, took to social media to celebrate the arrival of A Day In A Yellow Beat. Posting shots of the album’s hallucinatory cover art to Instagram, Yellow Days divulged his personal ambitions as a self-taught musician.

Van Den Broek wrote determinedly: “I have been pushing myself as hard as I can try to imagine a new style of music – something that will truly last forever.” 

Yellow Days also thanked his fans and ended the lengthy caption with the profound message: “Thank you for staying tuned during such an odd time for humanity. One of the main messages of this record is to show outward love.” The post is already a hit amongst Yellow Days fans, garnering over 14,000 likes.

In other wonderful news, Yellow Days will hit the road in 2021, touring the UK and Europe with A Day In A Yellow Beat. The dates for the UK leg of Yellow Days’ 2021 tour will go as follows:

The brand new release from Yellow Days proceeds his upcoming album, A Day In A Yellow Beat. Geared for release on September 18th, Yellow Days’ second studio album is thankfully just around the corner. 

The highly anticipated A Day In A Yellow Beat is set to feature a diverse mix of artists. John Carroll Kirby, Nate Fox and Bishop Neru are all confirmed contributors to the new record. 

It has also been confirmed recently that Yellow Days will hit the road in 2021, the Gap In The Clouds singer revealing a list of UK and European tour dates on September 3rd via Instagram. Yellow Days’ tour will commence in Barcelona on March 2nd and ending at the London O2 Kentish Town Forum on April 9th. 

In the post, Yellow Days confirmed that “Tickets are available next week”. This was met with an excited response from Yellow Days’ worldwide fans, as he also confirmed that the “US and rest of world dates” are “still to come.” 

Brooding and beguiling, The Curse is just what you would expect from multi-genre artist Yellow Days. Collaborating with Demarco, who brings more than his fair share of psychedelic sonics to the table, the indie-soul infused The Curse has many layers, inviting as it is cautionary.

Opening with some brief percussion, The Curse wastes no time and launches into Yellow Days’ raspy croon. This paired with the superior production completely envelopes the listener’s attention from start to finish.

With warped keyboards, wavy bass and whimsical synthesisers, The Curse is multidimensional and rich in sound. Yellow Days sings about breaking away from dark cloud of depressive, manic thoughts that so often plague his lyrics.

The talented young artists sings sorrowfully: “I been living in a state of fear/I been fearing the world/It’s ’bout time I broke out this funk, uh/’Bout time I lift this curse.” and “the nights are just too hard to bare/Hear the footsteps in the dark and now I’m scared.” 

A music video for The Curse was dropped in unison with the song’s arrival last night. Beginning with a meta-mid shot of Yellow Days singing in front of a green screen, the music video emits disarming glitches and pixelation, until an AI of the artist takes over the screen completely. 

The off-kilter camera cuts to a digitally rendered Mac Demarco as the pair saunters through a forest before playfully jamming out on their respective instruments together. The Curse music video was directed by Charlie Robbins.

Yellow Days shared the music video directly to his official YouTube channel, which has gathered a whopping 31,000 views from his cult following. Yellow Days, real name George Van Den Broek, also took to Instagram last night and shared news of his exciting new collaboration with Demarco.

The Curse played over a snap of the song’s psychedelic cover art, crafted by Japanese painter Tokio Aoyama. Garnering over 13,000 views, the post was met with a flurry of excitement from Yellow Days’ rapidly expanding fanbase. 

The Curse is out now.
