The rapper, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was rushed to hospital, after further reports suggested that a Luis Vuitton bag was taken from his vehicle, leading to officers treating the incident as a possible robbery. Onfroy is said to have been approached by two armed suspects as he left the dealership, when at least one of the suspects fired their gun and struck XXX before removing a Louis Vuitton bag from his vehicle. The suspects have been described as two black males wearing hoodies, with the shooter wearing a red mask. A reward of up to $3,000 has been offered for any information in finding those responsible.

Many tributes have been paid to Onfroy, with names ranging from Kanye West, to Travis Barker, to Louis Theroux, who acknowledged XXX’s problems with the law, but was keen to make sure that this didn’t detract from the rapper’s memory.

Last year, Onfroy was released from prison and placed under house arrest conditions, after a document from an ex-girlfriend was filed claiming that she no longer wanted XXXTentacion to be prosecuted for domestic abuse against her. In October 2016, he was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery, false imprisonment, and witness tampering, after it was believed that Onfroy and his legal team coerced his ex-girlfriend into dropping the charges.

The two most high profile artists removed from playlists are R. Kelly and XXXTentacion. Kelly has numerous accusations of sexual abuse to his name, and X has allegations of domestic abuse to his, and had a trial pending for these accusations.

Songs from these artists will still be available to stream, but they will no longer be promoted through the platforms playlists.

Spotify’s policy states:

We don’t censor content because of an artist’s or creator’s behavior, but we want our editorial decisions – what we choose to program – to reflect our values. When an artist or creator does something that is especially harmful or hateful (for example, violence against children and sexual violence), it may affect the ways we work with or support that artist or creator.

Representatives from both artists have released statements condemning Spotify’s actions, with R. Kelly issuing the following statement to BuzzFeed:

We appreciate Spotify for continuing to make R. Kelly’s songs accessible to millions of people, although it will stop listing his songs on its official playlists.

Spotify is adopting a new “Hate Content & Hateful Conduct” policy. R Kelly never has been accused of hate, and the lyrics he writes express love and desire.

Mr. Kelly for 30 years has sung songs about his love and passion for women. He is innocent of the false and hurtful accusations in the ongoing smear campaign against him, waged by enemies seeking a payoff. He never has been convicted of a crime, nor does he have any pending criminal charges against him.

Spotify has the right to promote whatever music it chooses, and in this case its actions are without merit. It is acting based on false and unproven allegations. It is bowing to social-media fads and picking sides in a fame-seeking dispute over matters that have nothing to do with serving customers.

Meanwhile, though, Spotify promotes numerous other artists who are convicted felons, others who have been arrested on charges of domestic violence and artists who sing lyrics that are violent and anti-women in nature.

Mr. Kelly falls into none of these categories, and it is unfortunate and shortsighted that Spotify fails to recognize this.

Although he is currently awaiting a full trial, earlier this year, Pitchfork obtained a full, horrifying transcript of the witness from the reported victim of the 19-year-old rapper- whose real name Jahseh Onfroy.

A long and consistent series of abuses came to a head in the deposition, where the victim found out she was pregnant by the rapper. Paranoid that it wasn’t his, Onfroy allegedly threatened to kill her and the baby before “elbowing, head-butting, and punching her”.

After that, the transcript shows, Onfroy confiscated her phone so she couldn’t call the police. The phone wasn’t returned until October 8- the day the rapper was arrested back in 2016. The victim escaped XXXTentacion’s apartment and was driven to the Miami Beach police department by an ex-boyfriend’s mother.

Earlier this month, Onfroy filed a document, supposedly from this ex-girlfriend, suggesting that she no longer wanted him to be prosecuted for his crimes. However, prosecutors currently working on the case seem to have seen through this, and believe that the rapper is illegally coercing his ex-girlfriend into signing this document,  and as a result XXXTentacion has now been jailed without bail for the time being.

With the rapper now imprisoned, he is now being charged with a full seven additional felonies, which include varying degrees of both witness tampering and witness harassment. If found guilty for all these charges, the 19-year-old could face decades behind bars.
