Yorkshire’s own dance-punk quartet Working Men’s Club, have announced their largest UK and Ireland tour to date, off the back of their soon-to-be-released sophomore LP Fear Fear. Tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday (July 8th) at 9am, here. While the band are yet to announce support for the shows, the 9 dates will see the band hit some of their largest headline venues yet, London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town, and the Manchester Academy will likely be highlight shows.

Pleased to announce that we are going to be playing some shows in the UK and Ireland in November, tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am from https://t.co/OgRw68FCzu

Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Dublin, Manchester, Cambridge and London, we’ll see you soon X pic.twitter.com/sIgREmZ8Q9

To celebrate the announcement, the group have also decided to release an Erol Alkan fronted reworking of one of their recent singles “Ploys”. You can hear the remix below. 2022 has been an eventful year for the band so far, 2 other singles have been released – “Circumference” and “Widow” are both also great tracks – they’ve bagged themselves a slot opening for Primal Scream in Halifax on Friday, and are also set to appear at a handful of instore gigs around all of the festivals already planned. You can find more information on the instore gigs here. This year could prove to be the one that finally confirms the band to be everything they think they are. COVID-19 obviously scuppered their plans after the 2020 release date meant that a tour couldn’t happen until well over a year later.

When asked of the new album by NME, frontman Syd Minsky-Sargeant had this to say, “The first album was mostly a personal documentation lyrically, this is a blur between personal and a third-person perspective of what was going on.” Adding, “I like the contrast of it being happy, uplifting music and really dark lyrics. It’s not a minimal record, certainly compared to the first one. That’s because there’s been a lot more going on that needed to be said.”

As mentioned before, the band are set to release their new LP Fear Fear next Friday, and you can look into pre-ordering it here. So far, the singles have pointed even more towards synthpop than they were before. “Ploys” in particular almost sounds like an only Wham! song, this may come as a surprise to fans after their particularly short EP X was released last year. X took the band in a more abstract direction musically, using more odd and interesting ideas and motifs that were only really hinted at in their debut.

With their album Fear Fear looming hot on the horizon (arriving on the 15th of July 2022), Working Men’s Club have announced a new EP which is titled The Steel City. The collection, which is being released exclusively through Sheffield’s prized record store Bear Tree will be chock full of tasty remixes by Toddla T, Charla Green, Ross Orton, Diessa and Forgemasters.

As the title suggests, this new EP pays its respects to the great City of Sheffield and its monumental music history. In a statement made by the band, they declared; “Both our albums were produced in a studio in Sheffield, to celebrate the cities influence we have pulled together some of the cities most innovative producers to remix songs from FEAR FEAR”.

They later added; “So buzzing for people to hear these mixes. Can’t believe Rob and Winnie Forgemasters have remixed ‘The Last One’. Got such a great and diverse collection coming in line with Fear Fears release. Very pleased with the outcome of Steel City EP. Get on this x”

One of the producers set to reimagine songs from the new album is Sheffield native Charla Green, who said;“It was lovely to work on a remix for Working Men’s Club and put a Jungle twist on it, Sheffield’s music scene has a lot to offer so it’s nice to see alternative scenes working together. I’ve also loved Heavenly Recordings for a long time so that was a bonus.”

Ross Orton added; “Not done a remix in ages but getting asked to remix the mighty WMC felt like a buzz, Here’s my wobbly take on a very heavy ‘future’ Sheffield style classic!”

“As the original version stank of Sheffield, I wanted to do something that I would be itching to play in a set back home” Said Toddla T. “Particularly at Kabal or if I wasn’t in attendance something that I know Winnie or Pipes would draw for which was made for the dancefloors of Sheffield.”

Finally, Forgemaster noted; “We think this remix has taken the song to another level of spirituality, may the Fonk be with you.”

Take a peek at the official tracklisting of The Steel City down below:

The West Yorkshire synthpop folks Working Men’s Club have dropped a new track from their upcoming album Fear Fear. The new song takes on an ethereal mood that is perhaps a bit darker than one might expect from the young hitmakers. It was noted here that the song is; “built on the kind of crystalline, heaven-sent synth lines that Depeche Mode or The Human League used to trade in”.

Have a listen to “Circumference” down below:

Following the great acclaim of their self titled 2020 album, which was described as being; “scored through with a brooding urgency that breathes new life into well-worn influences”. Fear Fear is set to arrive on the 15th of July 2022 via heavenly. The band’s visionary frontman Syd Minsky- Sargeant remarked on his latest endeavour; “The first album was mostly a personal documentation lyrically, this is a blur between personal and a third-person perspective of what was going on. I like the contrast of it being happy, uplifting music and really dark lyrics”.

He went on to add; “It’s not a minimal record, certainly compared to the first one. That’s because there’s been a lot more going on that needed to be said. We just set out to make the best-sounding album we could,” The very fact that the latest record will be produced by Ross Orton (who has worked with names such as Arctic Monkeys, MIA, Roots Manuva, Tricky and Kelis) will ensure that this ‘ain’t one you’d want to miss.

Minsky-Sargeant has been busy working on a solo project which is reportedly set to arrive in the near future. The singer claimed in an announcement online; “Been working on a solo record for quite some time now. It’s very nearly finished. Hoping it will be publicly audible in the next year or so …Sx”.

WMC are lining up a run of live shows across the UK to mark the occasion of the second album, starting off with an evening in Manchester’s White Hotel for the launch party on the 15th of July 2022. You can see the rest of the dates and locations on the poster down below:

Working Men’s Club have announced that they’re finished work on their second album.

This comes off the back of the band’s first release their self-titled debut album which came out in 2020 and was soon followed up in March by a brand new single called “X” both of which received much acclaim.

The Yorkshire-based synthpop group also had success earlier this year when they won Best Creative Packaging for their debut album at AIM Awards 2021 alongside the likes of other winners such as Arlo Parks, ENNY, Fontaines D.C. and Jayda G.

Frontman Sydney Minsky-Sargeant has now shared the news that the band has finished their second album which they have not revealed the name of yet and it’s on the way. He wrote on Twitter “Can’t wait to release new music. The 2nd album is done. Me and Ross have worked tirelessly together on it this past year and I’m really proud of the outcome.”
