Royal Albert Hall has been hosting concerts in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust since 2000, and this year’s run of gigs was curated by The Cure’s Robert Smith. This week, a stacked line up of acts included English rock band, Elbow, Scottish rock band Mogwai and Irish rock band My Bloody Valentine. The Teenage Cancer Trust website says they are “the only UK charity providing specialised nursing care and expert youth support for young people diagnosed with cancer, ages 13-24.” And last year, the gig series at the Royal Albert Hall raised a record £2.05million.

Ahead of the set Wolf Alice’s lead singer, Ellie Roswell, took to the band’s Instagram to share her personal connection to the Teenage Cancer Trust concert series. Saying, “when I was a kid they used to get all the schools in Camden to sing songs at the royal Albert hall so actually this isn’t my first rodeo.” She also shared that the band would be selling an exclusive t-shirt, the complete proceeds of which would go to the charity Flynne’s barn.

The Standard reported, in their five-star review of the night, that Roswell took the stage saying, “I want to have the best Sunday night ever, and I want you to as well.” The band began with ‘Heavenward,’ a track which hasn’t seen a live performance since 2020. Then, songs from 2025’s ‘The Clearing’ took center stage. The Standard noted ‘White Horses’ was “given fresh, punky life.” Other songs performed from their latest multi-award winning album include ‘Just Two Girls,’ ‘Leaning Against the Wall’ and ‘Midnight Song.’

The set took an acoustic turn as Roswell welcomed violinist James Gavin to the stage. Roswell forewarned the crowd: “We wanted to try something a bit different tonight, so I hope you will be patient with us.” Three more session musicians joined the stage who helped the band perform a traditional Irish folk reel. Roswell joined on the flute and tin whistle, having grown up playing traditional Irish music. The folk musicians stuck around as Wolf Alice debuted their unreleased track, ‘Hit the Sky.’ The track has steady frolic and characteristics of a folk beat. Some lyrics caught by fans include “If the world serves you lemons, you just twist ‘em.”

The band performed another unreleased song with the folk accompianment, ‘Gospel Oak.’ A softer offering with sparing musical accompaniment and tender vocals, the singer was overcome with emotion by the end of the performance, embracing her bandmates.

After, the band ripped through some heavier hitters including ‘Delicious Things’, ‘Lipstick’, and ‘Bread Butter Tea Sugar’ which propelled the set toward a flourishing, rock-flavored ending.

The set closed out with an organ-backed rendition of ‘The Last Man On Earth’ and the motivating, bubbly ‘Don’t Delete the Kisses’ which had the entire audience contributing vocals.

Roswell ended the night saying, “Thank you for allowing us to play songs we haven’t played for some time and some we haven’t played forever.”

The weekend also saw Wolf Alice perform as the second-ever musical act on SNL UK. There, the band performed ‘White Horses’ and ‘Leaning on the Wall.’ The band continues their busy 2026 schedule with two Ivor Novello Award nominations (ceremony on 21 May at London’s Grosvenor House), their biggest headline show ever lined up at London’s Finsbury Park (5 July) and a headline spot at the 2026 Green Man Festival in Wales (23 August).

Meanwhile, Tempest is set to compete against himself in for Best Contemporary Song with both ‘I Stand on the Line’ (co-written by Fraser T Smith) and ‘Know Yourself’ (co-written by Smith and Tom Rowlands) nominated for the award. The Rising Star Award with Amazon Music is another exciting category at the Ivors. 2026 nominees include kwn, Jacob Alon, Chloe Qisha and Skye Newman. The award recognizes songwriters from the UK and Irelands who the Ivor Academy believes are “at the tipping point of greatness.” Last year’s nominees include, PinkPantheress, Holly Humberstone, Rachel Chinouriri and Lola Young, who won the award in 2025. The Ivor Novello Awards are peer-judged by fellow songwriters and composers. They remain the most prestigious and enduring award to celebrate craft and cultural achievement. And at a time tense with generative AI edging into the creative industries, the Ivors Academy says “when questions around authorship and AI are reshaping the music landscape, The Ivors stand as a powerful affirmation of human creativity and the cultural value of songwriters.” While fans wait for the awards ceremony on 21 May, Amazon Music has curated an “Ivors 2026″ playlist, including many nominees and spanning a wide variety of genres, here. See the full list of nominees in the post below

Whilst history was being made at this year’s BRIT awards from Olivia Dean’s four-win domination to a memorable tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, other artists were expressing political concerns on the red carpet regarding the rise of right wing forces. Several BRIT winning artists such as Wolf Alice and Geese were censored during the live broadcast of the BRITs for sharing political statements.

The censorship of these statements has lead to concerns from artists about how musicians should feel empowered to be political. Indie-underdog CMAT, nominated for International Artist Of The Year, stated she was “not a big fan of anyone trying to argue that art is not a political place” and that “everything is politics. But more than ever, art is politics because you don’t get to make art in a fascist state. Fascism is on the rise in every single country in the world.”

She had previously criticised Berlin film Festival jury’s Wim Wenders, who stated that cinema should “stay out of politics”. The Irish singer shunned Wenders’ statement as she commented on “fascism rearing its ugly head in Ireland, its showing its ugly head all over the UK and don’t even get me started on America.”

“It’s cowardice,” She said in interview with The Guardian, “And I think it is showing that these people are extremely separate from how normal people live their everyday lives. You know, they’ve become successful artists. Become successful musicians, film-makers, and so they have wiped their hands clean of having to do anything with the working classes or having to do anything with anyone who is oppressed in any nation because they have the luxury of doing that. And I don’t think that’s fair.”

Theo Ellis, drummer of UK Group of The Year BRIT winners Wolf Alice, said he felt it was left to musicians to speak out on current political affairs because of the lack of coverage in traditional media.

“[Musicians] have the power to expose people to information they might not have got somewhere else,” he said.

UK Group of The Year 2026 BRIT winners Wolf Alice on the red carpet.
Alternative/rock category nominees Wet Leg also voiced political concerns on the red carpet. “I think that to be apolitical is political,” stated frontwoman Rhian Teasdale. The group’s guitarist Joshua Omead Mobaraki also commented on the rise of Reform UK, saying he “[doesn’t] want UK Reform to win any seats.”

Hip-hop king of the UK scene Loyle Carner shared similar concerns about UK Reform. “It’s scary times we’re living in. But it’s such low-hanging fruit. I feel, in my circle, or the echo chamber I exist in, to say that I hate Nigel Farage … it’s not hard to say that.”

Artist of the year runner-up Rebecca Taylor AKA Self Esteem expressed sympathy with other musicians who felt their political statements were being censored. “I just can’t not say what I think because it’s too frightening. I’m genuinely terrified that we’re going into a dark place, darker than where we are already.”

Alongside the nominees, comedian Jack Whitehall who was this year’s award presenter had his comments axed from the broadcast, notably a joke about Peter Mandelson. Whitehall joked that he spotted Mandelson sitting amongst a ‘politicians table’. Former Labour grandee Mandelson was arrested last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with investigation into allegations that he leaked sensitive information to sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Geese-drummer Max Bassin also had part of his speech censored from broadcasting as he accepted the award for International Group Of The Year. He made it as far as, “What’s up the Brits! I just want to say-” before the remaining speech was censored.

“Free Palestine, f*ck ICE, R.I.P. Mani, let’s go Geese,” he stated.

Once a seemingly neutral ground for politics, music and culture intersecting, the BRITs have taken a much stricter approach to political statements. In previous years, several political moments were captured on the award’s stage. 1995’s awards saw R&B royalty Prince perform a silent protest against his record label dispute, appearing onstage with “SLAVE” written on his cheek. Stormzy also utilised the stage for political input during his 2018 performance where he spoke out on the 2017 Grenfell Tower Fire, confronting Theresa May as he rapped “Where’s that money for Grenfell? You criminals.”

The sensitivity regarding political statements has been amplified across many awards ceremonies this year. In the BAFTAs last week, My Father’s Shadow director Akinola Davies announced “Free Palestine” during his acceptance speech for Best Debut by A British Writer, Director or Producer. This remark was edited out of the BBC broadcast.

In the Grammy awards ceremony last month, several artists including Hailey and Justin Bieber and Joni Mitchell were seen wearing pin badges that read “ICE out”. The censorship controversy is particularly prevalent due to what producers are ruling out as acceptable versus what is unacceptable. At the BAFTAs, John Davidson used a racial slur onstage that was didn’t get censored during broadcasting. An official apology was made owed to the activist’s Tourette’s Syndrome, but many have called the outburst “unacceptable”. The incident has sparked conversations about political censorship seeming unjustified comparatively.

No official announcements about the censorships of these statements has been made by the BRIT awards.

Mogwai will open the festivities on Friday the 20th, in their third Green Man appearance. Their music known for its distinctive lack of lyrics and immersive soundscapes have carried the band through a nearly 30 year career.

British DJ, Four Tet, will also be making a return to Green Man in 2026, but for his fourth appearance. Once called by critics ‘the definitive indie electronic artist,’ Four Tet will bring his ‘experimental yet highly accesible’ sound back to Bannau Brycheiniog.

American rock band, Wilco, is set to make their second appearance at Green Man this August, with their first being in 2009. The Independent described their 2009 performance as ‘masterful’ and that they ‘played the best of their vast catalog.’

And to close out the festivities, Wolf Alice is set to headline on the 23rd. Just off their 2026 BRIT Award win for Group of the Year, they are set to be headliners at Green Man for the first time. Widely celebrated for their blend of indie rock, dream-pop, shoe gaze and grunge, the band won the Mercury Prize in 2018 and received their historic fourth nomination in 2025 for their fourth studio album, ‘The Clearing.’

Elsewhere on the bill, Green Man stays true to its commitment to celebrate local Welsh talent with showings for Charlotte Church’s Pop Dungeon and songwriter Cate Le Bon. Cardiff-hailing newcomers, Panic Shack as well as Welsh-native songwriter Neve Caraid are seen on the bill as well, showcasing festival organisers’ dedication ‘to booking and platforming the future of live music talent.’

Headliners Wolf Alice remarked on their own beginnings as a band in their acceptance speech for their Group of the Year BRIT Award. Lead vocalist Ellie Rowsell said, ‘starting a band can be the hardest part and we couldn’t have done it without all the people who lent us money, drove us around the country, let us sleep on their floors, bought tickets to our early shows and even bought a piece of our atrocious merch.’ Rowsell went on to thank all the ‘pubs and clubs and grassroots venues across the country’ and then thanked ‘those who continually fight to keep them open.’ Rowsell turned to a call to action, citing recent closings of independent live venues versus the ‘billions of pounds live entertainment contributes to our economy.’ She said surviving as a band and an artist ‘shouldn’t be a battle.’

This echoes a sentiment shared by the Green Man Rising competition, as festival organisers say the contest in which a panel of judges selects an emerging act to open the Mountain Stage ‘offers grassroots artists an opportunity to submit music for a chance to receive essential insight from music professionals who are actively working within the industry.’

Though Green Man 2026 has sold out, with no future ticket sales coming in 2026, official resale tickets can be purchase exclusively through Tixel. More information on that can be found here.

The Eden Project is a rejuvenated clay quarry near St Austell in Cornwall, transformed into a botanical garden with two gigantic plastic biomes, which opened to the public in 2001. Due to its beautiful uniqueness, they began booking musical performances in 2002, and thus the Eden Sessions were born. The Eden Project has managed to draw major domestic acts such as Brit-pop band Pulp for their first Sessions in 2002, live sensations Muse in 2006, and hosting one of Oasis’s final shows before their split in 2009. They have also drawn a range of international acts, including Blink-182, Skrillex, and Queens Of The Stone Age.

2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the Eden Project, and in celebration they’ve spared no expense on live talent. This year’s offering features British acts in Snow Patrol, Bastille, Becky Hill, Frank Turner, and The Maccabees. It’s rounded off with American bands Pixies and Bowling For Soup.

Headliners Wolf Alice were formed in London in 2010, by singer Ellie Rowsell and guitarist Joff Oddie, with the lineup completed by bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey. In the announcement made by Eden Sessions’ organisers, they highlight Oddie having ties to Cornwall. They won the 2018 Mercury Prize for second album ‘Visions Of A Life’, going on to win the Brit Award for Best British Group in 2022, and scoring number one albums with both 2021’s ‘Blue Weekend’, and 2025’s ‘The Clearing’.

The band’s sound has evolved greatly, from early days as an acoustic folk-tinged duo, to creating their own brand of indie rock branching across a wide span of influences. Rowsell’s dynamic vocal range has also made them a well established name in the British live circuit. Their 2025 tour in support of ‘The Clearing’ took them to the big stages of arenas, generating so many sales that they capped it off with two sold out nights at the O2 Arena in London. As well as their opening night show at the Eden Sessions, they are also set to play Trans Mission, a solidarity concert benefiting the transgender community, held at the Wembley Arena in London on the 11th of March, and a Teenage Cancer Trust event at London’s Royal Albert Hall on the 29th of March.

The London four-piece – Ellie Rowsell (vocals, guitar), Joff Oddie (guitar), Theo Ellis (bass), and Joel Amey (drums) – have built a reputation as one of Britain’s most acclaimed alternative rock bands of the past decade. Their debut album, ‘My Love Is Cool’ (2015), introduced their mix of grunge, folk, and dream pop, earning a Mercury Prize nomination. Their second release, ‘Visions of a Life’ (2017), won the Mercury Prize, praised for its dynamic range and bold songwriting. Most recently, ‘Blue Weekend’ (2022) earned a BRIT Award for Best Group and a Grammy nomination, cementing their status as a major force in modern rock.

The Clearing marks the band’s first album in three years and first release since parting with their old record label Dirty Hit and signing with Colombia Records . So far, three singles have been released: the 70s-inspired ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, the atmospheric closer ‘The Sofa’, and the psychedelic-infused ‘White Horses’. The record is expected to further expand the band’s sonic palette, balancing the expansive arrangements of ‘Blue Weekend’ with tighter, more concise songwriting.

In an interview with NME earlier this year, guitarist Joff Oddie reflected on the creative process: “I think we were buoyed by the songier songs being things that people really connected to and we spent a lot more time working on those constituency, songy song parts of the songs,” Joff Oddie said.

“It’s the hardest thing in the world to write a really concise song in a – I don’t wanna say pop structure, but you know what I mean. It’s quite easy to throw a five-minute jam together, but that’s so difficult, so it’s a brilliant challenge and that’s more so where we were focused with this album.”

The band will also undertake a full UK and Ireland arena tour in late 2025. The tour begins November 28 at Manchester’s AO Arena, followed by dates in Birmingham (November 29), Cardiff (November 30), London (December 2), Leeds (December 4), Glasgow (December 6), and Nottingham (December 8), before closing in Dublin on December 10.

The new single surprised more than one as it features drummer Joel Amey on lead vocals alongside main singer Ellie Rowsell. The drummer shared: “I was inspired by what songs we had already that were becoming ‘The Clearing’; the sonic shapes we were creating, the big acoustics, the harmonies, but I wanted to underpin it with a driving krautrock beat. I was on this big adventure with my best mates, never feeling the need to call one place home, living out a suitcase, all the stuff that comes with being in a band. I felt that the answers to ‘who I am and where do I come from?’ didn’t matter so much; I’d chosen my family and they were the people around me. ‘White Horses’ was me trying to put all that into a tune, and Ellie, Joff and Theo helped me all along the way.”

The upcoming album follows on from their debut album ‘My Love Is Cool’, their sophomore release ‘Visions Of A Life’ and one of their most acclaimed piece of work ‘Blue Weekend’. The band will hit the road with their new record at the end of the year all around the UK and Ireland. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster.

Back in June, the ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ band spoke to NME after their Glastonbury set about the new album: “I think very much. I think we were buoyed by the songier songs being things that people really connected to and we spent a lot more time working on those constituency, songy song parts of the songs,” Joff Oddie said.

NME gave Wolf Alice’s Glastonbury 2025 performance five stars, writing: “The energy they pour into today’s set feels like that of a band who should be topping the Pyramid Stage next time they play Worthy Farm. As the set ends with ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ – a strong contender for one of the best, most dizzyingly accurate love songs ever written – that feeling only intensifies. That song finds Rowsell writing herself a romantic Hollywood ending; Wolf Alice’s world-beating set does the same for Glastonbury 2025.”

Wolf Alice will be playing shows in Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Dublin, Leeds and London from November to December 2025.

Wolf Alice have been steadily building momentum with their unique blend of grunge, folk, and indie rock since their formation in 2010. Known for their dynamic sound and powerful stage presence, the band has earned a dedicated fan base and widespread critical praise, including a Mercury Prize nomination for their debut album ‘My Love Is Cool’.

The newly added Nottingham date joins a selection of shows across the UK and Ireland over the November and December months of this year, including shows in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow and Dublin. The band previously added a second London date at the O2 Arena, and due to intense fan demand, Wolf Alice have confirmed a new date at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena on 8 December.

Their world and subsequent UK tour kicks off in North America in September, supporting Wolf Alice’s upcoming album, ‘The Clearing’, with ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ being their first release since 2022, and the only track to drop from the album so far. Speaking to the press about the new record, frontwoman Ellie Roswell says:

“I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman.

“I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the ‘girl singer in band’ trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.”

Their tour will follow their appearances at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, and their intimate gigs in Ireland, where they debuted ‘Thorns’, another track off the album. These Ireland gigs mark their first in nearly two years, after the tour for their Mercury nominated and critically acclaimed ‘Blue Weekend’, which was also the band’s first UK Number 1 album.

London Rock band Wolf Alice joined The Evening Show with Dan O’Connell on Radio X last night to talk some more about their upcoming album. Lead singer, Ellie Rowsell teased new details about the band’s new album ‘The Clearing’, telling fans that they will be “surprised” by it and letting them know that there is a “bunch more” tracks varying from their freshly released new single ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’.

Ellie explained the band’s new material to the host saying: “I feel like yes, it is a taste, but I think you’ll maybe be surprised when you listen to the rest of the record in the context of ‘Bloom Baby Bloom.’ But yeah, a little bit of a taster, but don’t think there’s going to be a bunch more ‘Bloom Baby Blooms.’”

Also discussing the band’s brand new single, Rowsell explained the track explores themes of self-empowerment, noting: “I like that you said it feels like a mantra, because I like the idea that of someone listening to it and feeling like that about themselves.”

When asked about the vocal style on ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ and comparisons to Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose, Rowsell responded: “Oh my God, I would never dare try to do that! But I think I was kind of thinking about rock singers who sing in falsetto, and he’s obviously like… I get scared that I mentioned Axl Rose, because I don’t actually know a lot of his music! But yeah, stylistically he can go very high, can’t he?”

The band is also set to go back on tour later this year after the album release on August 29th. ‘The Clearing’ leans on a golden palette of ’70s sounds with some Latin jazz flavours. Talking to NME, the band said: “The Clearing encapsulates that freeing feeling of finding a moment of peace and clarity, having survived the freewheeling frivolity of your 20s, emerging into your future and is a portrait of Wolf Alice standing on the precipice of a new decade in both life and art.”

Wolf Alice have just dropped a new single, ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, along with the announcement of their highly-anticipated comeback record – now with a confirmed date and title, ‘The Clearing’ will be released on August 29 via Sony Music.

The group just released the new single this evening. With a heavy, funky piano-doubled bassline, and an ethereally layered chorus, singer Ellie Rosswell shows off her incredible, dynamic vocal range. The song has been released with a music video, full of dramatic dance choreography that compliments the ambitious sound of the song.

In a press release, Roswell explained some of the influence behind the song: “I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman. I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the ‘girl singer in band’ trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.”

Their new music follows on from their third studio album, ‘Blue Weekend’, released in 2021. The record reached No. 1 on the UK Album Charts, and picked up a nomination for that year’s Mercury Prize.

The London alt-rock stars recently announced three shows in Ireland next week, in the build-up to their long-awaited comeback.

The band are set to perform in Kilkenny’s Set Theatre on Monday (May 19), Cyprus Avenue in Cork on Tuesday (May 20) and Dolan’s Warehouse in Limerick on Wednesday (May 21).

The shows will be Wolf Alice’s first gigs after almost two years. They last stepped to the stage for an intimate pub gig at The Sebright Arms in East London in September 2023. These Irish stops will serve as a warm-up to their scheduled summer appearances at BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend later this month and Glastonbury in June.

The group have been teasing their new era since last month, when they changed their official logo on social media, while teasing content related to their forthcoming single.

One post contained a lyric sheet, beginning with the lines: “Do I have to make you, sit on your hands/ Fucking baby, baby man/ Do you want me to show you, who I am/ See this fire in my eyes boy/ That’s your flash in the pan.” Now, we can hear these same lyrics in ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’.

Fans can sign up for access to the ticket sales for their Irish shows by registering their email address on the groups website here.
