Wet Leg have been announced as the first musical guest for the launch of Saturday Night Live UK, the new Sky Max and NOW reboot of the legendary US sketch show. The Isle of Wight duo will perform on the live series premiere on 21 March, joining inaugural host Tina Fey for an episode broadcast from London.

The UK spin-off of Saturday Night Live will air weekly on Sky Max and stream on NOW, bringing the long-running American format firmly into the British TV landscape. Produced as a six-part series, the show will stick to the familiar mix of topical sketches, celebrity hosts and live music, but is being promoted as “reimagined through a distinctly British lens”. Episodes will go out live on Saturday nights, maintaining the franchise’s reputation for last-minute rewrites, surprises and the occasional on-air chaos.

For UK music fans, Wet Leg’s booking as the debut musical guest feels like a statement of intent. Forwards Festival has dropped the first major names on its 2026 line-up, including Little Sims, Amyl and the Sniffers and Wet Leg. So far, it’s setting up to be one of the most exciting late‑summer bills on the UK calendar. Taking over Clifton Downs across the August bank holiday weekend, the festival is doubling down on its reputation for smart curation with high-energy, multi-genre-spanning lineups.

The Bristol-based festival has always pitched itself as a city festival with a conscience, pairing heavyweight headliners with conversations about culture, community and social change. Early signs suggest 2026 will be no different, with the first wave of names balancing chart‑storming success and genre diversity.

For Little Simz, Forwards 2026 appears to be a victory lap. Loyle Carner, CMAT, Wolf Alice Plus More Discuss Political Censorship During BRITs Broadcast: “It’s Cowardice”

Whilst history was being made at this year’s BRIT awards from Olivia Dean’s four-win domination to a memorable tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, other artists were expressing political concerns on the red carpet regarding the rise of right wing forces. Several BRIT winning artists such as Wolf Alice and Geese were censored during the live broadcast of the BRITs for sharing political statements.

The censorship of these statements has lead to concerns from artists about how musicians should feel empowered to be political. Indie-underdog CMAT, nominated for International Artist Of The Year, stated she was “not a big fan of anyone trying to argue that art is not a political place” and that “everything is politics. But more than ever, art is politics because you don’t get to make art in a fascist state. Fascism is on the rise in every single country in the world.”

She had previously criticised Berlin film Festival jury’s Wim Wenders, who stated that cinema should “stay out of politics”. The Irish singer shunned Wenders’ statement as she commented on “fascism rearing its ugly head in Ireland, its showing its ugly head all over the UK and don’t even get me started on America.”

“It’s cowardice,” She said in interview with The Guardian, “And I think it is showing that these people are extremely separate from how normal people live their everyday lives. You know, they’ve become successful artists. Become successful musicians, film-makers, and so they have wiped their hands clean of having to do anything with the working classes or having to do anything with anyone who is oppressed in any nation because they have the luxury of doing that. And I don’t think that’s fair.”

Theo Ellis, drummer of UK Group of The Year BRIT winners Wolf Alice, said he felt it was left to musicians to speak out on current political affairs because of the lack of coverage in traditional media.

“[Musicians] have the power to expose people to information they might not have got somewhere else,” he said.

Alternative/rock category nominees Wet Leg also voiced political concerns on the red carpet. “I think that to be apolitical is political,” stated frontwoman Rhian Teasdale. The group’s guitarist Joshua Omead Mobaraki also commented on the rise of Reform UK, saying he “[doesn’t] want UK Reform to win any seats.”

Hip-hop king of the UK scene Loyle Carner shared similar concerns about UK Reform. “It’s scary times we’re living in. But it’s such low-hanging fruit. I feel, in my circle, or the echo chamber I exist in, to say that I hate Nigel Farage … it’s not hard to say that.”

Artist of the year runner-up Rebecca Taylor AKA Self Esteem expressed sympathy with other musicians who felt their political statements were being censored. “I just can’t not say what I think because it’s too frightening. I’m genuinely terrified that we’re going into a dark place, darker than where we are already.”

Alongside the nominees, comedian Jack Whitehall who was this year’s award presenter had his comments axed from the broadcast, notably a joke about Peter Mandelson. Whitehall joked that he spotted Mandelson sitting amongst a ‘politicians table’. Former Labour grandee Mandelson was arrested last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with investigation into allegations that he leaked sensitive information to sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Geese-drummer Max Bassin also had part of his speech censored from broadcasting as he accepted the award for International Group Of The Year. He made it as far as, “What’s up the Brits! I just want to say-” before the remaining speech was censored.

“Free Palestine, f*ck ICE, R.I.P. Mani, let’s go Geese,” he stated.

Once a seemingly neutral ground for politics, music and culture intersecting, the BRITs have taken a much stricter approach to political statements. In previous years, several political moments were captured on the award’s stage. 1995’s awards saw R&B royalty Prince perform a silent protest against his record label dispute, appearing onstage with “SLAVE” written on his cheek. Stormzy also utilised the stage for political input during his 2018 performance where he spoke out on the 2017 Grenfell Tower Fire, confronting Theresa May as he rapped “Where’s that money for Grenfell? You criminals.”

The sensitivity regarding political statements has been amplified across many awards ceremonies this year. In the BAFTAs last week, My Father’s Shadow director Akinola Davies announced “Free Palestine” during his acceptance speech for Best Debut by A British Writer, Director or Producer. This remark was edited out of the BBC broadcast.

In the Grammy awards ceremony last month, several artists including Hailey and Justin Bieber and Joni Mitchell were seen wearing pin badges that read “ICE out”. The censorship controversy is particularly prevalent due to what producers are ruling out as acceptable versus what is unacceptable. At the BAFTAs, John Davidson used a racial slur onstage that was didn’t get censored during broadcasting. An official apology was made owed to the activist’s Tourette’s Syndrome, but many have called the outburst “unacceptable”. The incident has sparked conversations about political censorship seeming unjustified comparatively.

No official announcements about the censorships of these statements has been made by the BRIT awards.

Wet Leg Announce Huge 2026 UK Summer Shows

Wet Leg have announced a run of their biggest UK outdoor shows next summer.

The three shows in July will be their biggest headline shows so far. They’ll start at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl on July 8 before heading to Leeds’ Millennium Square and then performing in London at Alexandra Palace Park on July 10.

The band are currently on their European headline tour and are set to play UK shows next month. They’ll start with a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 13 before visiting, Liverpool, Nottingham, Norwich, and Portsmouth, before finishing in Cardiff on November 21. After this, they’ll go to Ireland to perform some shows.

Their rise to fame began in 2021 with their single ‘Chaise Longue’, which went viral due to an infectious mix of humour and post-punk attitude.

Follow-up singles included ‘Wet Dream’ and ‘Too Late Now’, which were described as offbeat pop anthems that resonated across radio and streaming platforms.

In 2022, Wet Leg released their self-titled debut album ‘Wet Leg’, which debuted at number one on the UK album charts.

The album was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2022 and later brought the band international recognition, leading to two Grammy Awards in 2023 for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Music Performance.

At the BRIT Awards in 2023, they won two awards for Best New Artist and Best British Group.

In July, Wet Leg released their second album ‘Moisturizer’, which saw them hit the top of the UK album charts, beating Oasis and giving them their second number one album.

The band have also been favourites to perform at major festivals including Glastonbury, Coachella, and Reading & Leeds, and next year they will be performing at Isle Of Wight Festival.

In 2023, they joined Harry Styles and supported him across the UK and Europe on his ‘Love On Tour’, performing at major venues such as Wembley Stadium and Murrayfield Stadium.

Earlier in their career, they also supported IDLES at London’s O2 Academy Brixton.

One of the UK’s longest-running and renowned events, The Isle of Wight Festival, has just released their headline acts for their 2026 show. The announcement showcased a diverse and far-reaching line-up, with the likes of The Cure, Calvin Harris, and Lewis Capaldi set to appear on stage next June. The festival will return once again to Seaclose Park from the 18th to the 21st of June, marking a prominent summer event for the UK’s 2026 music calendar.

For many hopeful attendees, the announcement of The Cure stands as the main event amongst the headliner list. The return of one of Britain’s most famous bands to the UK concert scene brings a great sense of historic weight to the festival’s weekend program.

Since forming in Crawley in the late 1970s, frontman Robert Smith and his band quickly gained traction as one of Britain’s most distinctive and popular musical groups. The band found their footing in the gothic rock whilst balancing popular melodies with a post-punk atmosphere. The band’s influences span across multiple generations of musicians and fans. Their discography spans from early staples like ‘A Forest’ and ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ to crowd favourites like ‘Just Like Heaven’ and ‘Friday I’m in Love’, drawing one of the most enduring UK fanbases across almost 50 years.

Alongside The Cure, acts like Calvin Harris and Lewis Capaldi, both of whom represent the two differing ends of the contemporary music scene, will perform on the same stage. Harris, one of the world’s most popular modern DJs and producers, will feel at home performing in front of large-scale festival crowds, having played consistently in front of worldwide arenas and dominating many streaming platforms. Isle Of Wight’s famous indie band Wet Leg recently sat down for an interview with Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1 to talk about their new album ‘Moisturizer’. During their chat, the band gave insights into their creative process as well as what fans should expect of their new project. Lead singer Rhian Teasdale and guitarist/keyboardist Joshua Mobaraki both reflected on the unexpected yet quick success of their debut album and how they played over 300 gigs following said success.

Rhian spoke about the overwhelming success, stating: “Everything is just happening and you’re just taking it day by day. You don’t really have that much time for reflection. When we stopped touring we weren’t like, ‘Okay, let’s take a minute about all those gigs that we played.’ We were like, ‘Okay, what are we going to play when we go on tour again? Let’s make some tunes.'”

Joshua added to her statement and dived in more details on the writing process for ‘Moisturizer’ which he said took place in a kid’s playroom in Southwold. “We did two weeks on, two weeks off, two weeks on. After that, we had too many songs.” The pair talked about how the project initially had 16 to 17 tracks.

The pair also spoke about their experience touring and supporting with Harry Styles and the fear that came with it, unaware of how his fanbase would receive their sound but being happily surprised at how open and nice the fans were to the band. They mentioned how they observed an openness of mind and a shift in music consumption in recent years, where listeners are welcoming more diverse genres without adhering to rigid subculture affiliations.

The album, which came out on July 11, was appraised and happily received by fans of the band, loving this new sound that truly belongs to Wet Leg, loyal to their alternative music with heavy guitar riffs. Both members admitted that they had a strong desire to get back on the road to tour as they absolutely love to perform live. Rhian also revealed that ‘Moisturizer’ features love songs, a departure from her earlier songwriting, admitting she was “really, really hesitant” to tackle the theme.

English indie rock band Wet Leg have released a new single, ‘Davina McCall,’ ahead of their upcoming album. This song marks their third single, previewing the sophomore album along with ‘CPR’ and ‘Catch These Fists’. The brand new single ‘Davina McCall’ is a softer, gentler, lovelorn ballad about pure, unadulterated devotion. The song was released with a music video directed by Chris Hopewell. The music video is unique in that it is a stop-motion animation where the band is depicted as clay figures. The song was created starting with the melody by guitarist Hester Chambers, further developed by their bassist Ellis Durand, and finally completed with lyrics by the vocalist Rhian Teasdale.

Wet Leg’s other two singles, ‘CPR’ and ‘Catch These Fists’, have become a huge success, both reaching their top three songs on Spotify. These three lead singles are features on their new sophomore album ‘Moisturizer’, set to release on July 11. The album will consist of twelve tracks, including songs ‘Jennifer’s Body’, ‘Pond Song’, ‘Pillow Talk’, ‘Pokemon’, and ‘11:21’. The album will be released by their record label, Domino Records. ‘Moisturizer’ will include songs inspired by romantic relationships, including the new single ‘Davina McCall’. The album was created and recorded while Wet Leg were living together in a remote house in Southwold, England.

Wet Leg formed in 2019, releasing their first ever song ‘Chaise Longue’ in June 2021, gaining popularity quickly, reaching the UK and US Charts, helping launch the band into the public eye. They released their debut self-titled album ‘Wet Leg’ in April 2022 with popular songs including ‘Wet Dream’, ‘Too Late Now’, ‘Being In Love’, ‘Supermarket’, and ‘Angelica’.

In a statement about the inspiration behind the track, Freeman-Taylor shared: “I’m curious about the bowels of the city. We don’t see what’s below, but there are so many pipes and caves. My friend once said, ‘If you bury yourself, I will dig you out again,’ and I wanted to immortalise that because it made me feel so warm.”

Accompanying the release is a striking visual directed by Edie Lawrence. The video fuses live-action and puppetry to illustrate the story of a man dwelling in the sewers, silently observing the lives of those above him. It’s a surreal and arresting visual that signals a bold new artistic chapter for the band.

Mary In The Junkyard show no signs of slowing down following their recent supporting tour, with plans to tour the USA in September 2024. Wet Leg Make Comeback With Album Announcement and Booming New Single

British alternative indie band Wet leg announced their upcoming album ‘Moisturizer’ and UK tour in an Instagram post, confirming the release to be on April 11.

The band, formed in 2019 by Isle of Wight duo Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, debuted their self titled album ‘Wet Leg’ in 2022, earning them multiple Grammy and Brit awards as well as the album reaching number one in the UK Album charts and getting shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize. After this anticipatory 3 year break, the band hinted last month at a comeback with this instagram post.

Along with the announcement of the tour, the indie rock band have released a new dance-punk track ‘catch these fist’ with an accompanying music video posted to their Youtube channel.

The music video, filmed on home terf in the Isle of Wight, is playful yet foreboding with cool, deadpan shots of the duo. The band dresses in all white with striking shots of them on a patch of grass chugging large amounts of milk, throwing and catching a beach ball, and acting out a kidnapping scene. The retro feel of the video seems integral to the band’s image with their website stylised in Windows 95. However, in the music video of their popular hit track ‘Ur Mum’, the band are much more colourful and soft with the artists filmed in a retro 70s scene.

Perhaps this is an indication that their new music will have an aesthetic more connoting to Y2K. This change is also given through hints in the dates leading up to this announcement with the band’s recent Instagram posts edited in a glitchy, 2000s aesthetic.

Fans have also spotted the band on March 25 at their impromptu secret gig which was recognised to have been held at MOTH club in London. They managed to keep the mystery by announcing the performance an hour before it commenced and subsequently deleting the post. The band also performed under the pseudonym ‘Uma Thurman’.

At this intimate show, fans shared many recordings of their hits, such as their most popular ‘Chaise Longue’. The artists also teased other unreleased tracks which left fans excited for more, with one follower captioning their post, ‘did someone say wet leg summer…?’

With the release of ‘moisturize’, Teasdale explains in an interview with The Rolling Stones that the album is a punk dedication to her queerness, providing a new take on love songs. The artist states “I thought I was straight all of my life until I met my current partner — these love songs are about them,”.

After an eager wait, the band’s return with this fresh new sound and look will be welcomed with excitement and interest.
