Westlife was originally called Westside and changed their name due to another band already using the name. The band were formed in Sligo in Ireland and came to the attention of the music world in 1998. The original band lineup consisted of singer and songwriter, Shane Filan, singer, songwriter and television presenter, Brian McFadden, singer and songwriter, Markus Feehily, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Kian Egan, and singer, songwriter, radio presenter, dancer, television presenter and former professional footballer, Nicky Byrne.

McFadden departed from the group in 2004, leaving Filan, Feehily, Egan and Bryne as a four-piece. The four-piece disbanded in 2012, reunited in 2018 and have released 13 studio albums to date. As a five-piece, the group released 4 albums and released 9 albums as a four-piece. The band’s self-entitled 1999 debut album Westlife provided the band with five, UK number 1 singles, “If I Let You”, “Swear It Again”, “I Have A Dream”/”Sessions in The Sun”, “Fool Again” and their signature single “Flying Without Wings”. The band released the lead single “Starlight” from their new album Wild Dreams last month when announcing their new album. The single was released on October 14th and set the tone for the band’s new album release.

Watch the video for the band’s single “Starlight” here

The band’s new album was to be released on November 19 and the band decided to push back their new album until today, November 26th on October 13th. The album will also include live versions of the band’s 1999 hit single “Flying Without Wings” and their 2002 hit single “World of Our Own”.

The band said of the new album “This album means more to us than anything we have done before and has been inspired by the challenges we’ve all overcome over the last 18 months.” The band further said that the album represents “New beginnings” and “hope” The band also released their second single from the album, “My Hero” this month following their performance of the single at The Pride of Britain Awards, where they were joined on stage by the winners of the night. The single “My Hero” was co-written by Ed Sheeran and DJ Steve Mac.

The album was penned during the Covid 19 Pandemic Lockdown and the band said of their Covid 19 Lockdown experience and their creative process “The maze of emotions we all experienced during the pandemic drew us to songwriting and has helped us create a really special album that we have everything we love in music”

At the time of announcing their new album, the band also announced that they will be embarking on their The Wild Dreams: All The Hits Tour in July. The band’s tour kicks off in Dublin on July 8th and ends in Cardiff on December 12th 2022. The band will also be performing their first sold-out date at Wembley Stadium on August 6th during their tour.

The band appeared on the ITV programme Loose Women at 12.30 pm today November 26th, as part of a Westlife Takeover called Looselife to discuss personal related issues and to promote their new album. Tickets for the band’s tour are now on general sale and extra dates have also been added to the band’s tour. The band’s followers can enjoy their new album Wild Dreams via a standard or deluxe edition in CD, Vinyl or cassette format in the interim, of their 2022 The Wild Dreams: All The Hits UK Tour, which is set to kick off next Summer.

Irish boyband, Westlife have revealed today (April 12) that their first album in nine years, ‘Spectrum’, will be released, on the 6th of September 2019. Westlife have an exciting and busy year ahead, as it was revealed that the band will be embarking on an extensive tour this summer, ahead of the release of their comeback album, ‘Spectrum’, this autumn.

The boyband, made up of Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, and Markus Feehily have confirmed their first studio album since the release of 2010’s ‘Gravity’ will drop on the 6th of September 2019. The groups comeback comes after they took a hiatus, which began in 2011, and lasted until October 2018 when they reunited, bringing much excitement to fans.

So happy to announce that our new album ’Spectrum’ is coming on 6th September! pic.twitter.com/WrqTyNFt5D

— Westlife (@westlifemusic) April 11, 2019

Speaking about how the name for the album came about, Westlife, said: “The title ‘Spectrum’ came from us talking about how we feel younger, happier and more energetic than we ever have in our career. ‘Spectrum’ is a title that represents the various different shades and colours of our personalities, vocals and general perspectives that all blend together in a unique way to create Westlife. It’s also a word that represents the various shades and colours in the band, meaning it’s the perfect metaphor for our different points of view and perspectives but together, they somehow join to work perfectly.”

The 11-track album, ‘Spectrum’, which was recorded in Dublin, LA, and London, cements the group’s return to the international music scene, on the exact day they mark the twentieth anniversary of the release of their first ever UK single, ‘Swear It Again’, which was released on the 12th of April 1999. Their latest album, ‘Spectrum’, was written and produced by hitmakers such as Steve Mac, Ed Sheeran and James Bay. The album showcases the band’s stunning vocals with a collection of fresh pop anthems and moving ballads, including the amazing first single, ‘Hello My Love’, of their music comeback as well as their current hit, ‘Better Man’.

Speaking of the album, the band, said: “We are making new fresh pop music for old and new fans alike and are so excited to share ‘Spectrum’ with everybody.” The band added: “We’re all driven by trying to create the best album of our careers. Our fans deserve the very best version of Westlife possible and with this album we feel that we’ve achieved that.

“The album has everything that we love in music, heartfelt emotional songs and also great uptempo’s that are designed for our stadium performances. We couldn’t be happier with how the last few months in the studio have gone and we cannot wait for our fans to hear the end results.”

The news of the release date of their latest album, ‘Spectrum’, follows the announcement of their 25-date tour of the UK and Ireland. Their comeback not only include their latest album, but their fastest-selling UK and Ireland tour of all time, cementing Westlife’s position as national music treasures.

The tour, which will celebrate Westlife’s 20th anniversary, will see the band hit the road, in Belfast, on the 25th of May 2019, heading to venues in Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, Leeds, London, Nottingham, Birmingham, and Liverpool, before concluding, in Dublin, on the 6th of July 2019.

Westlife members Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan are planning a reunion, but Brian McFadden will not be joining them. The quartet confirmed their reunion, with new songs, co-written by their friend Ed Sheeran, and tour dates allegedly already organised.

The Irish boy band are already planning new songs and a massive tour, according to record industry insiders. “It’s signed, sealed and delivered and it’s definitely happening — and it absolutely does not include Brian McFadden. The other guys have been lined up to return to the studio and record some new songs and tour dates have even been organised, so it’s definitely going ahead this time. There’s been a lot of speculation, but this time it’s a done deal and contracts have been signed,” a source says.

Ed Sheeran is understood to be helping the band record new material, including their first comeback single, according to Simon Boyle writing in his column in this morning’s The Sun newspaper. “I can reveal that none other than Ed Sheeran is the mastermind behind Westlife’s reunion — and has secretly co-written the group a shock new single,” says Boyle.

Confirming that Ed is working with Westlife, a source said, speaking to the Irish Mirror: “Westlife have really been pulling out all the stops for their big comeback and were desperate to get Ed on board. It took quite some time to pull together and has been done totally behind closed doors, but he has finally given them the right record to make it happen. Having Ed involved is a huge coup. They think he will give them a contemporary edge for their reunion. They have already recorded the song and are delighted with the results. They’re just pulling together the final promo details including a video before they unveil it. It’s going to be huge.”

The reunion should come as no surprise to fans, as speculations about a reunion has been circling for sometime. Nicky Byrne has spoken in the past about how Westlife, who have sold over 55 million records, always wanted to do a reunion to coincide with the 20th anniversary of their first single, which was back in 1998.

“I think a reunion is getting closer, next year we’re 20 years since we released Swear It Again, the year after we’re 21 years. One day it would be great to do it again but it’s not happening until you hear from the four of us, not management not anyone else. The offers are there and I think they will always be there which is nice to feel like that. Even leaving the financial element aside, it’s nice to get back onstage, that would be brilliant, you can never relive those moments until you do them again,” Nicky said, speaking to RSVP Magazine.

The bands former manager Louis Walsh also added fuel to the fire, by confirming that a reunion was in the works. Walsh revealed last year: “A Westlife reunion is definitely going to happen – but I have no idea when. I think the reunion will be great, but its up to them to decide when they will do it.”
