The singer, also known as Dominic Harrison, announced to fans that the tour would be postponed last month, writing: “OCCUPY THE U.K. TOUR POSTPONED. hold onto your tix, more info to come at a later date but obviously we can’t play shows right now and the safety of you and my crew is most important to me. love you.”

He added: “when we get back together. it’s gonna utter fuckin pandemonium. see it, smell it, scream it, imagine it, feel it in your fuckin heart. it will happen and i cannot wait.” 

This is the second time the tour has been postponed, as it was initially supposed to take place in May and June 2020. The gigs will be taking place in Nottingham, Glasgow and London. His Life On Mars tour is set to go ahead as planned, taking place in the UK and Europe from September to November 2021. 

Yungblud released his debut single King Charles in 2017, and followed it with EP YUNGBLUD. His first album, 21st Century Liability, came out in 2018. He released his second album Weird! in December 2020, which peaked at number one in the UK Albums Charts. He won the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best New Act and the MTV PUSH: Ones to Watch Award in 2020.

Yungblud is seen throughout the first part of the video partying on a bus in the midst of the chaos before taking over the vocal duties at the song’s midway point. The video frequently cuts back to Kelly throughout the song’s second section where he continues to sing and play his guitar alongside his drummer with only a wire fence keeping undead at bay. The song has quickly been taking off across the internet with the Youtube video already picking up 741,775 views and reaching #14 on trending already.

The video ends with Yungblud himself transformed into one of the undead and, while the choice of video isn’t necessarily relevant to the song’s lyrics, it is certainly a lot of fun to watch and a cheeky poke of fun at the current situation the world finds itself in. ‘acting like that,’ is available to stream as a single on all platform and is also one of the tracks from Yungblud’s number 1 album ‘weird!’ which was released in December 2020. The album’s success has teleported Yungblud out of the insular British Indie scene and onto the world stage, with transAtlantic collaborations with the likes of Machine Gun Kelly have certainly helped him to get there.

The ‘acting like that,’ production is a slight outlier on the ‘weird!’ album with the collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly leading to the adoption of some Rap elements such as in the verse which is typical of Trap style beats in its rhythm while the chorus contrasts by following a more conventional Rock approach which pushes the song forwards where the the verse pulls it back and makes space. The collaboration is a unique one which adds a great deal of flavour to the album by not only blending the genres of Rock and Rap but also by allowing for a clash of cultures by allowing the perspectives of an American rapper and a British singer to be heard with equal importance.

With the possibility of live music in Britain this year still heavily in question, Yungblud’s fans will surely be appreciative of this video which contains at least some of the energy of a live show in its explosive delivery and with a lot of effort clearly being made to make a video which not only supports the song but is also interesting enough to enjoy as an art piece in its own right.

The singer opens by saying, “I wanna move people and make people feel uneasy, and question their whole existence with my visuals. I just wanna build worlds where people can live if they’re sick of this one.”  He then begins the series by telling the story of his song ‘Hope For The Underrated Youth’ from EP ‘The Underrated Youth’. The video was filmed on a boat on the river Thames while he played a gig to thousands of fans.

This is followed by ‘God Save Me But Don’t Drown Me Out’, the first video which Yungblud directed himself, from his album ‘Weird’. He discussed how the idea behind the storyline is to show what anxiety feels like, as he himself and many of his fans have experienced mental health struggles. He said that he feels it’s important to talk about this topic so that other people can receive help and support.

Next, he broke down the title track from ‘Weird’, filmed when the artist was living in LA with his band-mate, as well as ‘Mars’, and ‘Parents’. Speaking of the latter, Yungblud said, “I wanted it to be dangerous as fuck, this video. I remember people being like, ‘It’s a bit close isn’t it?’. I was like, yeah it fuckin’ is, ’cause it has to be.”

This is a new insight into Yungblud’s career and artistry which fans are resonating with, as it takes the viewer through some of his biggest hits. Currently, the video has over 58,000 views after releasing yesterday.

The videos all follow a unified aesthetic with all the footage shot in black and white with occasional strips of red to add contrast. Yungblud’s distinctive look is present throughout the videos somewhere between punk and glam throughout and they scream with attitude. This is a unique approach to releasing music online which is almost entirely groundbreaking. While short looping videos have been pioneered, particularly on the Spotify streaming platform which is generally sceptical of adding any video content to their audio based platform, this is the first time anyone has released an entire series of unified videos in this style coinciding with a full album release.

Sure enough, the short looping videos which are featured on the Youtube uploads for all tracks on the ‘weird,’ album are also viewable when listening to the album on the Spotify mobile app. Although shorter and less narrative focused than a traditional video, the addition of these short looping videos to streaming versions of the able is a very nice touch and really brings the experience into the 21st century, making the album more engaging on the move without becoming as much of a data hog as a full video might, and also allowing the primary focus for the audience to be the music itself.

While it is still to early to say how the album will perform in the charts, Yungblud has certainly worked hard to make this album appealing to the current generation. Where other artists, usually those with fans of a slightly older demographic, are often critical of all advances in technology and streaming in particular, Yungblud seems to have embraced the technology available to him and sought to make the best of it. While the streaming revenue he can gain from Spotify or Youtube may not be much, he is still using the platforms for what they are really good at, which is reaching a very broad audience in a way which is very convenient for them.

As  well as making his album very appealing for streamers, Yungblud also has plenty of deals on his online store here for fans who have been tempted to make the leap from online consumption to the world of physical mediums and merchandise.

The song cheekily lifts its title and core concept from David Bowie’s ‘Life On Mars,’  but this is no cheap rip-off, more an affectionate nod to a man so influential to alternative and even mainstream British pop and rock music not just through his songs but also his many images and persona’s and his ability to resist tradition and pave the way for all the more androgynous aspects of musical performance that we nowadays take for granted. When Yungblud asks if there’s ‘any life on mars,’ he is standing up to the same questions that David Bowie would have faced in his era when he asked ‘is there life on mars?’

Yungblud’s album ‘Weird!’ is due to be released in physical forms on the 4th of December and his online store is currently offering a huge variety of bundles to pre-order as we come into the final week before its release. The album can be pre-ordered as an ‘ice cream man,’ vinyl which is a translucent grey colour and is also available in white. Bundles available on the website include vinyl, CD and sticker sets, bundles of CDs with a variety of alternative album artworks, cassette bundles, signed copies and more. The store also feature clothing much including socks, hoodies and polo shirts so fans can get the Yungblud look.

As well as building up excitement for the release of ‘Weird!’ by dropping singles and music videos, Yungblud is also about to embark on the US leg of his online live streamed virtual tour which will be continuing through the December 4th release date and Yungblud has been completing UK and European legs earlier this month. Furthermore, as well as the online ‘The Weird Time of Life,’ tour, which makes sense considering the current nationwide lockdown and that the majority of the country will still be unable to enjoy live music before Christmas due to the stricter tier system, Yungblud does have a real life tour planned for 2021.

Fans who have ordered ‘weird!’ which is due to release in earnest December 4th which is, according to NME, ‘due to vinyl production delays,’ are eligible to one free ticket for the tour which is going to showcase the song’s which Yungblud has slaved over and sat on for so long now. The tour is due to begin in London, then continue on to Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin, and then to Europe in a series of concerts which will be livestreamed to fans in each location every day from the 16th to the 23rd of November. After a sort break the American leg of the tour will then begin on the 30th of November and continuing through the first week of December.

Tickets for the event are refreshingly affordable, which shows that Yungblud is at least taking into account the fact that the events are digital live streams and not comparable to the real events. This fact does seem to have sadly been lost on some artists or labels who still seem to be charging a similar ticket price for a live stream than one might pay for a real concert. Fortunately tickets for Yungblud’s digital world tour are quite cheap, just £4.65 per ticket including a small service charge.

Yungblud has been holding onto the physical release of this ‘weird!’ album for a while now, with coronavirus restrictions delaying production of vinyl copies and leaving fans with preorders waiting eagerly until December now. Fortunately for those eager to hear the sounds of Yungblud, many of the tracks from the album have now been released digitally with the latest single ‘cotton candy (the morning after)’ the latest one to drop yesterday. The tune has already clocked 177,026 views in the 24 hours since its upload, an impressive feat for an artist in the alternative genre.

‘cotton candy (the morning after),’ has a simplistic acoustic feel which seems to lie somewhere between Oasis and Blink 182 and Yungblud has all of the Punk energy of both. Yungblud deals with a number of issues on the minds of young people today. Most notably the issue of modern sexuality and is actively encouraging of experiencing such things without shame and lightly encourage’s promiscuity, as the lyrics subtly hint at the singer taking part in encounters with numerous different partners.

Yungblud is an androgynous figure and like many indie and alternative artists at the moment is something of a champion for the LGBT community as he messes with gender stereotypes using both lyrics and appearance.

While part one toured only in Kingston, Leeds an Edinburgh, the upcoming 2021 UK tour will expand into Brighton, Sheffield, Southampton and more. The second leg of the tour will differ from the first as it will instead see stripped and acoustic live performances of YUNGBLUD’s upcoming second album Weird!, which is scheduled to be released in November 2020.

The Yorkshire born singer/songwriter debuted the title-song Weird! earlier this year which featured themes of coming-age oddities along with a homemade music video for the track. Among the track list for the coming album, Strawberry Lipstick was released on July 16th and last week Cotton Candy was dropped with it’s accompanying video on YouTube.

In fitting with the artist’s previous lyrical style, each single has a deeper theme, Strawberry Lipstick dealing with themes of toxicity in relationships and Cotton Candy acting as a discussion for safe-sex and sexual liberation. YUNGBLUD is not new to injecting political themes into his lyrics, as many of his early songs doubled as activist anthems.

On his 2018 self-titled EP, the single King Charles is a protest song for the working class and he goes on to release the track I love you, Will you marry me?, which satires corporate greed. The artist continues this theme with his first full-length album 21st Century Liability that digs into sexual assault and issues with relationships in modern society. His song Polygraph Eyes was featured in the hit television series ’13 Reasons Why’ for its distinct relationship with assault surrounding young women.

YUNGBLUD was scheduled to perform Coachella this year however when the festival was postponed due to complications surrounding the Covid-19 crisis, the young artist announced a virtual live-stream convert for his fans. The concert was one of the first virtual concerts to be done during the pandemic and because of its funding and success, YUNGBLUD will be playing another virtual concert before the end of the year.

Next month the virtual tour ‘Weird Time of My Life’ will feature songs off the singers highly anticipated album Weird! and will be available to stream for fans who would be unable to attend the  aforementioned 2021 UK Tour live in person. The in person tour will only span from late March to early April and tickets are on sale as of this morning.

The respective releases of Lemonade, Strawberry Lipstick, and God Save Me, But Don’t Drown Me Out have each been met with a delighted reception from fans. Cotton Candy, the latest preview to Weird! has left fans reeling with barely contained excitement, desperate to hear the album that Yungblud has been teasing since last year. 

Opening with a riffy electric guitar, Yungblud wastes no time and launches into his signature croon. Yungblud sings the zealous, romantic lyrics: “Tallulah knows that she’s not the only one I’m holding close/On the low, I get vertigo from body overdose/So tell me your name, and tell me your problems/I got the same”

During the pre-chorus, Yungblud’s raspy vocals sing the catchy lyrics: “And I wanna get stuck between your teeth like cotton candy/So you’ll remember me, darling”, unabashed in their desire to be remembered. This theme continues during the chorus, as Yungblud sings “I’m losing myself in you/And you, and you, and you, and you, I know”, a feeling of desire that we can all relate to. 

According to an official statement from the artist, “‘Cotton Candy’ is about sexual liberation.”  Yungblud maintained that such liberation is essential for self acceptance and freedom, saying: “To me sex and sexuality is about freedom and the idea that you can to lose yourself in other people of all genders, of all shapes and sizes to find yourself and figure out who you truly are.’ Yungblud continued, saying “sexual interaction should not be shamed, it should be celebrated because to have safe sex is to spread love and the world needs love more than ever right now.”

When elaborating upon Cotton Candy, Yungblud maintained that “This song is so important to me because I see and speak to my fan base, who are facing insecurities around sexual interaction. I want to let them know that it is ok to be exactly who they are and have the right to unconditionally love who they want and be loved in return.”

Yungblud also released the accompanying lyric video for Cotton Candy via their official YouTube channel last night, the video in question raking in over 303,000 views. Featuring a flurry of red lips, cherries and cupids, the music video to Cotton Candy can be watched in full here.

Yungblud took to Instagram today to ring in the latest taster of Weird! Posting a playful video of themselves dancing, Yungblud asked his fans in the caption: “what’s your favourite lyric?” Garnering over 556,000 views, the post has been met with a joyous reception from fans.

It was confirmed that fans who attend will hear songs from the new album ‘Weird’, they’ll be able to attend regardless of the city they live in, and can purchase tickets for as many different shows as they like. Yungblud’s reason for running this tour is because he enjoys performing live, connecting with fans, and experiencing lots of different cultures.

General sale tickets will go on sale this Friday, 2nd October, at 5pm while the pre-sale will open at 1pm on 1st October for those who pre-order ‘Weird’ before 9.30am the same day. The singer also revealed that tickets will cost just $5 each. But, there will still be a limited number of tickets available, just like a real live-show.

Details of the new album, ‘Weird’, have kept fans on their toes for months waiting to hear further news. Last week, all the details were finally confirmed, and the album will be released 13th November, just a few days before the tour starts. Four singles are already out: Title track ‘weird!’, followed by ‘strawberry lipstick’, ‘Lemonade’, and ‘god save me, but don’t drown me out’ which came out just last week.

The singer’s other recent ventures include featuring on a track with Bring Me The Horizon, ‘Obey’ from their upcoming album, as well as appearing on BBC Radio 1 today as part of their Live Lounge Month. He performed two tracks including ‘strawberry lipstick’ and a mash-up cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Cardigan’ Avril Lavigne’s ‘I’m With You’.

Yungblud has also confirmed the incoming arrival of his second studio album, Weird. Pending for release on November 13th, Weird will follow Yungblud’s most recent EP, The Underrated Youth (2019), and will supersede his 2018 released self-titled debut. 

So far, Yungblud has shared two sizzling tracks from Weird, the explosive Strawberry Lipstick and the album’s title track. A twelve track album, Weird will feature songs like The Freak Show, It’s Quiet In Beverly Hills, Ice Cream and Superdeadfriends. Lemonade, Yungblud’s recent collaboration with American rapper Denzel Curry, will not be a part of the album. 

Speaking on the upcoming Weird to NME, Yungblud, real name Dominic Harrison, meditated upon the many moods of his forthcoming record. Harrison stated that “The album is a mix of emo-Dom, new-wave-Dom, metal-Dom, happy-Dom, sad-Dom and all over-the place-bonkers-mental-can’t-put-your-finger-on-him Dom.” This concept is certainly reflected in the dichotomic cover art, which denotes Harrison posing in various guises. 

Harrison continued, saying that “Since the beginning of time, humans have been so complex and have like 15 different personalities at once – but we’re the first generation to accept it and know that it’s alright to be who you are”

Punky and punching, God Save Me, But Don’t Drown Me Out is completely captivating. Opening with an infectious guitar riff, Yungblud sings frantic, intense lyrics such as “Calm me down, before I sleep/Cause I don’t know where I’ve just been” and “the morning seems so far away/And the dr*gs just hit, so I’m wide awake”

As the strong percussion builds and the instrumentation rises anticipatively, Yungblud launches into the song’s climax, roaring the redemptive chorus: “Not gonna waste my life, ’cause I’ve been fucked up/’Cause it doesn’t matter/So, waste my time, and God save all of us/And the walls, they’ll shatter”

Yungblud dropped God Save Me, along with its accompanying lyric video, to his official YouTube channel today. The track’s immediate popularity amongst Yungblud fans is immediate, as the post has received over 96,000 views in a few short hours. 

Yungblud also took to social media today to confirm the upcoming arrival of Weird. Posting the cover art to Weird on Instagram, Yungblud declared to his fans that “I love each and every one of you for exactly who you are.” 

The artist continued encouragingly, writing “I cannot wait for you to fall into this world with me. Together let’s redefine what it means to be “different”. Embrace the strange. Never settle for being anything less than 100% who you are.” Receiving a whopping 319,000 likes, Yungblud’s celebratory post was met with joy from fans.
