Based in Cardiff, AFC Rumney are a girls Under 14s team now receiving sponsorship from the “Candy Shop” singer and collaborators G-Unit. The team are said to be “buzzing” about the sponsorship.

The team’s manager Richie Brown has explained that a parent of one of the AFC Rumney players had worked with 50 Cent on a recent tour, and was urged by some other keen parents to “see if you can get some sponsorship out of him for us”.

Brown commented on the matter, “He said he would ask the question – worst case scenario was [50 Cent] would have just said no. Thankfully he didn’t, he agreed to it. He sponsored our away kit first of all, and then we were a little bit cheeky. We asked for a little bit more, and he sponsored us again for our tracksuits.”

 The team plan to debut their new kits next week for their first away game of the season. Richie Brown said the team are also “going to get a few photos taken and sent over to him, then hopefully he can give us a good luck video or something to acknowledge it all. We’re massively appreciative of everything he’s doing for us right now. We love the support.”

After being discovered by rapper Eminem, New York born 50 Cent shot to fame back in 2003 with his smash hit “In Da Club”. Additionally, G-Unit was an American Hip-Hop group that included 50 Cent, alongside Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks.

Due to the rapper’s mid-naughties fame, team manager Brown seems to think that despite the players being excited, the sponsorship is an even bigger hit with the parents. “I’m sure more of them know who he is than the players because of their ages, but the buzz around the team and the whole club really is amazing and its all down to him.”

“At first when you tell anybody they don’t believe it, they just say ‘no way, there’s no chance that’s going to happen, he’s too big of a superstar’. It’s huge for grassroots football teams to get people and businesses support us to be able to get better things.”

Brown is hopeful that the new kits and exciting sponsorship will manifest into stronger performances and higher confidence from the team. “We’ve had a bit of a slow start and lost a few games,” he said. “But hopefully now this can get our confidence back – fingers crossed it brings the results back on the pitch as well.”

The US rapper Kayne West has been in the news frequently this year, not just for his music releases, but for rants on titter about his UMG recording contract and his unsuccessful bid for US Presidency. Along with the coronavirus and the US election being top queries in the UK searches, he was in fact the only music artist to have presence in the top google searches for news and celebrities.

Kayne withdrew his run for presidency on 4th November by taking to twitter to make his announcement as NME recorded, “by posting an image of a map of the United States with its states shaded in according to those that have thus far been won by fellow candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The caption accompanying the image simply said “WELP”.” Although admitting defeat, it seems Kayne is open to the idea for running for presidency again in 2024.

Earlier this year, Kayne stated that he wanted to buy Universal Music Group for £25 billion. This news came after open discussions on twitter about artists and their rights to music and it’s ownership. NME noted, “West recently suggested new guidelines for recording and publishing deals in the future of the music industry, discussing contracts, masters and rights issues in the music industry on Twitter and advocating for fairer treatment for all artists.” He then revealed he is given all his artists signed to his G.O.O.D label a 50% share in profits and their master copies returned to them.

Placed at number 2 in the UK google search for artists was Sarah Harding who shared that she was diagnosed with breast cancer over the Summer. Last week in an update to NME she said she was “fighting as hard as I possibly can”. In 3rd place was Russel Watson after his ‘I’m a Celebrity’ appearance and Bugzy Malone (real name Aron Davis) snapped up 4th Place after his role in Guy Richie’s film ‘The Gentlemen,’ and his injury in a quad bike accident earlier this year. Grimes was 5th in the UK search list after giving birth with her first child with Elton Musk this year.

A google trends expert, Kirstin Wright said to Music Week, “The 2020 Year in Search lists not only reveal the most popular trends from the past 12 months, but also give insight into the biggest events in the news, politics, sports, entertainment and popular lockdown trends. As people continue to look for information in new and different ways, Google Search keeps evolving to make the world’s information accessible and useful to all.”
