The new single surprised more than one as it features drummer Joel Amey on lead vocals alongside main singer Ellie Rowsell. The drummer shared: “I was inspired by what songs we had already that were becoming ‘The Clearing’; the sonic shapes we were creating, the big acoustics, the harmonies, but I wanted to underpin it with a driving krautrock beat. I was on this big adventure with my best mates, never feeling the need to call one place home, living out a suitcase, all the stuff that comes with being in a band. I felt that the answers to ‘who I am and where do I come from?’ didn’t matter so much; I’d chosen my family and they were the people around me. ‘White Horses’ was me trying to put all that into a tune, and Ellie, Joff and Theo helped me all along the way.”

The upcoming album follows on from their debut album ‘My Love Is Cool’, their sophomore release ‘Visions Of A Life’ and one of their most acclaimed piece of work ‘Blue Weekend’. The band will hit the road with their new record at the end of the year all around the UK and Ireland. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster.

I think we were buoyed by the songier songs being things that people really connected to and we spent a lot more time working on those constituency, songy song parts of the songs,” Joff Oddie said. “It’s the hardest thing in the world to write a really concise song in a – I don’t wanna say pop structure, but you know what I mean. It’s quite easy to throw a five-minute jam together, but that’s so difficult, so it’s a brilliant challenge and that’s more so where we were focused with this album.”

NME gave Wolf Alice’s Glastonbury 2025 performance five stars, writing: “The energy they pour into today’s set feels like that of a band who should be topping the Pyramid Stage next time they play Worthy Farm. As the set ends with ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ – a strong contender for one of the best, most dizzyingly accurate love songs ever written – that feeling only intensifies. That song finds Rowsell writing herself a romantic Hollywood ending; Wolf Alice’s world-beating set does the same for Glastonbury 2025.”

Wolf Alice will be playing shows in Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Dublin, Leeds and London from November to December 2025.

In a bold move to address the struggles facing the grassroots music scene in the UK, Opus Kink have announced the release of ‘A Hideous Collection’. Set for release on September 5, the compilation album is aimed at raising funds for the Music Venue Trust and UK Touring Artists Fund. The album aims to raise awareness towards the various and diverse talent in the UK music scene and raise funds for struggling independent music venues facing closure.

The compilation album features notable tracks from a wide range of UK artists, including Wunderhorse, English Teacher, Katy J Pearson, Lambrini Girls, Mary In The Junkyard, Matt Maltese, Warmduscher, Nova Twins, and Honeyglaze, among others. A total of 26 artists are contributing to the release, reflecting the breadth of the UK’s contemporary indie, punk, and experimental music scenes.

In a press statement, Opus Kink said of the compilation: “Touring independent music venues is like this. The most passionate organisers are the ones who do it on a shoestring and are often one bad season away from crumbling.”

They added: “Support for these venues and humans is starting to glimmer in the ashes through donations and awareness and the work of groups like MVT, but as always, unfortunately, it must also take wresting a more fundamental and top – down offering from the industry to really stay the decimation of grassroots live music culture in this country.”

“In the meantime, please enjoy the sounds of some of the artists who help to keep alive the places that birthed them and please buy this record so you can do that too,” it added. “And remember to thank Satan.”

The album arrives against the backdrop of an ongoing crisis for grassroots music venues. A report published earlier this year by the Music Venue Trust revealed that one grassroots venue is closing every two weeks across the UK. Rising costs, post-pandemic financial instability, and limited government support have all been cited as major contributing factors.

The Music Venue Trust, founded in 2014, advocates for the protection and development of grassroots music spaces. The charity supports venues through financial aid, lobbying efforts, and campaigning for systemic industry reforms. The UK Touring Artists Fund, meanwhile, provides grants to artists impacted by rising touring costs and venue closures.

Following the release, CMAT shared in a statement: “I have certain phrases that reverberate around my head over and over again – and ‘Euro-Country’ was one of them. It’s the title of the album, and the name of the first song on the record. And it means three things to me: It’s the kind of country music I make; the fact that Ireland is a European country run by the euro; and that capitalism is one of the worst things to ever happen to us.”

The song starts with a 40 seconds long intro of CMAT speaking in Irish, in what feels like she is honouring her roots and where she comes from. The Dublin born singer took to Instagram recently, voicing her frustration towards BBC Radio for cutting the intro to her song. In her story, the singer said: “It was not my decision to have the Irish language edited out of the first-ever play of Euro-Country on radio. I don’t know if it was a mistake or what happened.” The BBC have since denied the claims and said they only played the version that was sent to them by the singer’s team. She has since then confirmed that the station have reached out to her and promised they would play the full version, Irish intro included from now on.

The song, an ode exploring themes of identity, Europe and capitalism pays homage to the singer’s roots. The single came out with a music video directed by Eilis Doherty and sees CMAT visit the Omni Park shopping centre in North Dublin, dancing in the water fountain and belting the words to the song. Speaking about her upcoming project, she said: “‘Euro-Country’ is, I think, the best thing I have ever made. I felt halfway through recording it was the most important record I’ve made for myself… mainly because it was making me go crazy. I’m always going to make the work I want to make, because there is a little gremlin in my head that tells me if it’s shit. More than success, there’s a bigger gremlin that wants me to make music that’s really good. She’s brutal and has ruined my life at times, but she is the keeper of my life and she’s always right.”

‘Euro-Country’ will also feature acclaimed single ‘Take A Sexy Picture Of Me’, a single that saw its popularity rise from TikTok and that has been called the “Gen-Z Macarena’ with its fun dance moves. CMAT is set to go on a UK and Ireland headline tour later this year, including dates in London and Dublin. She is also set to appear at numerous festivals over this summer such as Green Man, All Points East and Tramlines, festivals which follow her amazing Glastonbury set back in June of this year. Tickets for her shows are still available over on Ticketmaster.

The Libertines singer Pete Doherty just released his brand new single ‘Calvados’, a track from his upcoming album whilst announcing a series of intimate in-store gigs. Tickets are now available via Ticketek. Pete has now shared two singles from his upcoming album ‘Felt Better Alive’ which is set to be released May 16.

The single, named after the Normandy native alcohol where the rock star lives with his wife and daughter, pays tribute to a local seller set near him. The frontman is also set to teach at the university of Normandy this year. Speaking to NME about his inspiration for the song, he said: “Where I live there’s a fellow in town, he’s got a shop that specialises in Calvados and ciders; the apple juice becomes cider becomes Calvados. He took me on a tour of all the old Calvados makers, in his van, place to place, staying with them. It’s that story. The line ‘Slow and steady is the way!/The way it was, the way it is…’, that’s how it is. These farms have been there for generations. You can’t hurry it, you wait for the apples to grow, you wait for the seasons to change, it’s not a laboratory. And at the end you get this incredible elixir. Fire water!”

Along with the song, Doherty invited his fans to get competitive and submit entries to create the music video for the track with winner Natalie Sidorenko/Sad Lip Studio animation being chosen. “I immediately pictured how the loving relationship between the farmer and his wife should be unified with their shared craft: the making of the ‘Calvados’,” Sidorenko said of the final design.

Elton John and Brandi Carlile have announced the release of their first collaborative album, revealing its expected release date and title. This album, which is set to include ten tracks, marks the second collaboration between the iconic British rock singer and the American singer-songwriter. The record is set to be released on April 4 2024, and the two artists have announced that the title of their upcoming collaboration will be title ‘Who Believes in Angels‘.

The first song known to be included in the album is the single ‘Never Too Late’ which was released as John and Carlile’s first song collaboration last year. The song was used in Elton John’s documentary which came out in the same year and was titled, just like the album, ‘Who Believes in Angels’. The song peaked at number 47 and only spent a week on UK charts.

About the record, John said: “This record was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. It has given me a place where I know I can move forward. Who Believes In Angels? feels like going into another era and I’m pushing the door open to come into the future.”

Carlile joined in commenting on the announcement, and said: “I’m still reeling from the fact that I got to do it. I think all ships rise with Elton John’s standards for songwriting, and it was an incredibly challenging and inspiring environment to work in, everybody throwing in ideas, everybody listening to everybody else’s ideas. It felt like a family.”

Here are all the tracks included in the upcoming release:

1. The Rose Of Laura Nyro
2. Little Richard’s Bible
3. Swing For The Fences
4. Never Too Late
5. You Without Me
6. Who Believes In Angels?
7. The River Man
8. A Little Light
9. Someone To Belong To
10. When This Old World Is Done With Me

To celebrate and promote the album, a special show was also announced: Carlile and John will be gracing the London Palladium Stage in Central London for a one night only special set to take place on March 26, 2025, only a couple of weeks before the release of the album. For a chance to access tickets, fans are encouraged to pre-order the album here.

John and Carlile have also created a special video for fans which narrates and illustrates how the album was born and created.

Pulled Apart By Horses also released a music video to accompany their latest release. The video is shot in black and white and shows the band playing for a crowd in a relatively small venue. Later on, lead singer Tom Hudson then takes off his shirt and can be seen dancing and crowd surfing with the audience. You can view their music video below.

The track has a rawness and urgency, drawing inspiration from acts such as The Stooges, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and The Cramps. In this latest release, we find frontman Tom Hudson ditching his guitar to focus solely on vocals.

Speaking about the ’70s-inspired garage rock track, vocalist Tom Hudson stated: “(It’s) a voiced frustration towards our groomed, individualist society, where the real world and our online world is full of constant venting of minor/trivial annoyances as if they are the centre of the universe when really there are more pressing matters out there and a far bigger picture.”

He then went on to say “Our musical tastes change monthly, never mind over the course of the years, so we are never going to be the kind of band who’d do the same album every time,” said Hudson, about the shift from ‘The Haze’ to this new record, which takes influence from 70’s garage rock. We’ve always been that band that are ‘too heavy for the indie kids, and too indie for the heavy kids’ in industry terms, but it’s quite cool that people don’t really know where to put us, because it means no-one can easily slap a genre name upon us,” He then finished with the words “Now we have the freedom to just be who we are.”

The band also celebrated the release by sending out some cassette copies of the song to fans. Pulled Apart By Horses will release their fifth album next spring on indie label Alcopop! Records.

When talking about recording the LP, Hudson said: “The fat was trimmed! We spent months playing the songs for the new album in our practice space and on a small ‘up close and personal’ UK tour to set them in stone. We headed to the Nave studio in Leeds off the back of that tour and captured the tracks live, tour tight and locked in!”

Shortly after the premiere of their huge new single ‘You Are All You Need‘, Sheffield’s metalcore outfit While She Sleeps finally revealed the official tracklist of their upcoming fifth studio album Sleeps Society. Named after the band’s recently established Patreon community and carrying the artwork of the title track released last October, the hugely awaited upcoming record will feature a total of 11 tracks, including three exciting collaborations. Sleeps Society is out on April 16th via Spinefarm Records, available to pre-order on all standard formats and limited edition vinyl here.

The official tracklist officially confirms the rumours of vocal collaborations with Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro on the song ‘Nervous‘ as well as Deryck Whibley from Canadian punk rock veterans Sum 41 for ‘No Defeat For The Brave‘. Alongside the already released ‘Sleeps Society‘ and recent banger ‘You Are All You Need‘, the album will include the track ‘Call Of The Void‘ revealed to feature members of the Sleeps Society, teasing involvement from While She Sleeps’ hardcore fan base.

The band revealed the second promo single ‘You Are All You Need‘ last Sunday during Daniel P. Carter’s ‘Rock Show‘ on BBC1. An undeniable masters of their craft and confidently moving to a league of their own, While She Sleeps deliver some of the most exciting arrangement and guitar work in modern metal, backed by rich bass sections, restless drums and singer Loz Taylor’s versatile vocal performance. Lead guitarist Sean Long talks about their new single and video, giving some insight on the direction of their explosive recent track and video:

“We are always trying to express a certain kind of emotion or internal insight and sometimes you really hit the nail on the head, expressing it how you imagined, and other times you miss it completely. Well, this time we hit it dead on with no room for speculation. The song says it how it is and reminds us to stop looking outwards for approval & validation. The video is a colour explosion from start to finish and, with the current state of this dull bleak world, we think it’s going to be the colour everyone needs to illuminate their spirits, even if it’s only for three minutes.”

While She Sleeps shared the psychedelic video for ‘You Are All You Need‘ at 6pm on Monday with a premiere that coincided with Architects’ latest track ‘Meteor‘ reveal on BBC Radio 1 and immediately sent ripples across the music media. In a seemingly coincidental yet powerfully unified action at both fronts, for a brief moment all eyes and ears were focused on two of the leading contemporary metal exports from the country, continuing the recently reinvigorated surge across the entire scene.

2021 is already shaping to be a truly exciting time for modern metal fans and professionals across the UK, making the most of these troubled times. With established bands morphing into genre-defining global heavyweights and talented new acts confidently rising to fill the ranks, main albums charts are increasingly seeing more guitar-driven and louder music across the spots. Only recently Bring Me The Horizon confidently grabbed the top spot with the physical release of their seminal EP Post Human: Survival Horror, while Enter Shikari and Bury Tomorrow seamlessly broke into Top 10 in 2020, just to name a few without pinpointing specific genres.

Building on the momentum with the likes of While She Sleeps and Architects demanding the attention of primetime national radio shows and making press headlines with their highly anticipated new albums Sleeps Society and For Those That Wish To Exist, now is as exciting time as any to follow the new trends. Curiously, Biffy Clyro’s frontman Simon Neil is set to feature on both bands’ upcoming records, further expanding their shared creative field and strengthening the guitar-focused community across the country.

Check out While She Sleeps’ latest video in full below, and pre-order Sleeps Society from their official website. Album out 16 April 2021 via Spinefarm Records.

With just few weeks left until the highly anticipated reveal of Architects’ ninth studio album For Those That Wish To Exist, the Brighton outfit shared their last promotional single ‘Meteor‘. The track premiered on Monday evening on the band’s resident slot at Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1. Shortly after the show frontman Sam Carter shared the following message on his Twitter account: “Thank you for every lovely comment about Meteor it honestly means the world to us. We pushed ourselves so much creatively on this album and I love seeing you connect with the singles so much!”

Since the end of last October, Architects have revealed the colossal arena anthem ‘Animals‘, the furious metalcore tirade ‘Black Lungs‘ and the beautiful prog-driven ballad ‘Dead Butterflies‘, and we were there for them all. With ‘Meteor‘ the band displays yet another side of what is gradually shaping to be their most important album to date. For Those That Wish To Exist is out on 26 February via Epitaph Records, available to pre-save and pre-order on all formats here.

The day after the premiere saw all major media outlets worldwide set their eyes on Architects, giving them the attention they rightfuly deserve and once again opening the debate over their new musical direction. Slowly molding into an unstoppable force breaking genre restrictions on their own terms, the established metalcore heavyweights are preparing a project brimming with newly found purpose, creative freedom and environmental awareness. Putting aside any paralels to their contemporaries from the UK metal scene, the Brighton flagmen stand proud with the confidence and attitude of a festival headliner ready to lead the pack.

At first glance, ‘Meteor‘ fails to hit as heavy as its title suggests but frankly it doesn’t need to anymore. With nothing more to prove and noone left to please but themselves, the band delivers yet another seminal track that sounds melodic and radio-friendly in its alt rock core, all the while fuelled with all the menacing vibe and dark themes defining any acclaimed metal record. Melodies and lyrics intertwined in a catchy yet troubled requiem for a paradise lost, the single follows Carter desperately crying out loud: “They said we pushed the last domino before the apocalypse. We’ve all got a stone to throw. Why? I will never know, yeah, we’re like fire in the snow“.

Naturally, ‘Meteor‘ won’t please everyone but serves a very specific purpose within the context of For All That Wish To Exist as a significant ninth record by a band blessed by immediate international success but also deeply scarred by personal tragedy. Last year, drummer and producer Dan Searle joined Carter for an exclusive feature for Kerrang!, providing an insight on their inspiration and direction:

“I think Holy Hell still had that Architects sound, but alluded to where we could go next. Holy Hell took us into arenas, and playing live in those spaces taught us a lot. We felt like we were able to go where we wanted, without losing sight of ourselves. After nine albums, you have to go somewhere a little different, a little uncomfortable, and that’s where creativity flies.”

In a curious video interview for Rock Sound from yesterday, Mike Kerr from Royal Blood talked about collaborating with Architects on the track ‘Little Wonders‘ from their upcoming record. A fellow Brighton rocker and long-term friend of Sam Carter and the band, the guitarist discussed seeing them perform life, recording music together and being completely blown by their craft: “It’s like watching a bunch of ninjas. They’re masters of their art“.
