The iconic drum-and-bass trio have announced the release of a compilation of ‘lost tapes’, featuring unheard tracks recorded throughout the years. This announcement comes just 5 days after their fifth studio album ‘RUDIME3NTAL‘ was released, on August 22. They are currently on tour with their new album and showed off their new single (‘Nights Like These featuring Rag’n’Bone Man’) while playing at Reading and Leeds Festival. See the reveal below:

The trio, comprising of Piers Aggett, Kesi Dryden and Leon Rolle, first released music in 2009, before approaching Amir Amor to be a songwriter and producer for the band in 2011. They continued as a quartet until 2022 before Amir left, leaving the band as a trio of the original members. They have discussed the release of the new demo tape with The Sun’s Bizarre column. Speaking to Bizarre, they spoke about unreleased collaborations with the likes of Ed Sheeran and RAYE, revealing that the their track with Ed Sheeran was recorded eight years ago and is still in the vault.

The band also revealed that they have barely left the studio since the release of their fourth album ‘Ground Control’, released in 2021. In this time, they wrote around 3,000 songs and were ready to release ‘RUDIM3NTAL‘ 2 years ago, until writing ‘Nights Like These’ with Rag’n’Bone man in December 2024 and finally deciding the album was ready for release. Due to the hard work and dedication by the band, their sixth album is already 70 percent complete. Speaking to Bizarre, Piers Aggett said “This album really was finished a year to two years ago, and then what happens is, you get in the studio and we wrote ‘Nights Like These (featuring Rag ’N’ Bone Man)’ in December. And we’re like, ‘OK, let’s finish that, then we’ll put the album out’. We’ve already definitely half-made the next album. Maybe 70 per cent of the next album.”

Rudimental also announced the conception of their own new record label in 2026. Speaking to Bizarre, Kesi Dryden said “As Rudimental, we’ve always been a platform for artists. And in 2026, we’re starting a new record label. We’ll be supporting new vocalists, new producers and dance acts. I think that’s a big part of our focus. I think that’s reignited the fire for us and we’re super-excited about the next chapter.”

Rudimental are well known for creating songs of the summer and have a catalogue of hits, including ‘These Days’ featuring Jess Glynne, ‘Feel The Love’ featuring John Newman and ‘Waiting All Night’ featuring Ella Eyre, all songs which reached #1 in the UK Official Singles Chart. The band have fine-tuned the creation of #1 singles, so be prepared to hear much more of them following the release of their latest album.

Rudimental are playing a show in Circuit, London on September 7 followed by a gig at the iconic Amensia club in Ibiza, then going Orlando, Florida to play the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC). Tickets for the show in London can be bought here.

The video lay incomplete for twenty years and is spliced together from close-up stills of the band shot on slide film. The band told Under the Radar the story behind the forgotten video, “When we released Light & Magic it was expected that the title track would be a later single, and would therefore need a video clip of its own. But we were on the road and didn’t know how it would be done. We had all this beautiful slide film shot and envisaged animating it in some way, like a 1970s science fiction title sequence – Sapphire and Steel or something like that. We disappeared on the road, plans changed, and ideas were forgotten. Twenty years later here it is.” You can watch the video below.

September 17th this year marks the 20th anniversary of their landmark 2002 album, Light & Magic, and in celebration of the occasion, the Liverpool band delved into their archives. Along with the unreleased video, the band will release a short film about the recording of the album in Los Angeles and more unheard and unseen material, according to the magazine.

Ladytron were formed in Liverpool in 1999 by Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu from Merseyside, Mira Aroyo from Sofia, Bulgaria, and Helen Marnie from Glasgow. The band named themselves after the Roxy Music song, “Ladytron”. Roxy Music co-founder Brian Eno spoke glowingly of the band in 2009, “Ladytron are, for me, the best of English pop music. They’re the kind of band that really only appears in England, with this funny mixture of eccentric art-school dicking around and dressing up, with a full awareness of what’s happening everywhere musically, which is kind of knitted together and woven into something quite new.”

In 2001 the band released their debut album 604 to universal acclaim, Pitchfork saying in their review of the album at the time, “They’re like an unabridged Encyclopedia of musical Eurotrash with a sharp pop sensibility. And with 604, they’ve made a fine debut full-length”; the review continued, “The tracks on 604 are sequenced intelligently and keep this slightly overlong album purring along nicely. Latter-day new wave may be old hat, but there’s still room for it when it’s done right.”

In 2019, following a four-year hiatus, the band released their self-titled sixth studio album, Ladytron. The Guardian newspaper gave the album four stars out of five and said, “if any band was going to bounce back from years of acrimonious hiatus with a soundtrack to our troubled times, Ladytron seemed unlikely contenders. Yes, that Ladytron, from Liverpool, whose heavy-lidded, robo-cool vocals defined the electroclash movement of the early 2000s and who haven’t released anything since 2011. And yet their eponymous return is an immersive, invigorating and convincingly brooding stomp of disenfranchisement”.

An announcement was made in the autumn of 2021 that a special edition box set of David Bowie’s ‘lost’ album would be released, Toy (Toy: Box) by David Bowie dropped on 7th January 2022. To celebrate the box set’s release, two previously unreleased versions of “Shadow Man” have been made available by ISO Records and Parlophone Records. Both exclusive tracks provide an endearing insight into the iconic musician’s career and are available on multiple streaming platforms

The first single entitled “Shadow Man (Unplugged & Somewhat Slightly Electric Mix” was recorded in 2000 and is a bare-bones mix of a re-recording which Bowie made in 1970. Acclaimed producer Mark Plati has provided the following description concerning the track, “While we were recording the basic tracks Earl Slick suggested that he and I overdub acoustic guitars on all the songs. He said this was Keith Richards’ trick: sometimes these guitars would be a featured part of the track, and at other times they’d be more subliminal. Later, while mixing, David heard one of the songs broken down to just vocals and acoustic guitars; this gave him the idea that we ought to do some stripped-down mixes like that and that maybe one day they’d be useful.”

The second recording of “Shadow Man” to be released is a studio demo version; the early recording was made during the end of 1970. Bowie’s official website confirms that the track was “not recorded during the Ziggy Stardust album sessions as often stated, and is exclusive to this single”

The original recording of “Shadow Man” took place within the end months of 1970. The single was then revisited by Bowie in the Autumn of 1971, another re-working of the track occurred thirty years later. The song would then be included within the singer’s ‘lost’ album Toy, the legendary album which until recently was mainly left unreleased. “Shadow Man” was finally made available to fans in 2002 on the album Heathen and again on the 2014 compilation album Nothing has Changed.

Bowie’s official site provides the following description concerning the making of Toy, “TOY was recorded following David’s triumphant Glastonbury 2000 performance. Bowie entered the studio with his band, Mark Plati, Sterling Campbell, Gail Ann Dorsey, Earl Slick, Mike Garson, Holly Palmer and Emm Gryner, to record new interpretations of songs he’d first recorded from 1964-1971. David planned to record the album ‘old school’ with the band playing live, choose the best takes and then release it as soon as humanly possible in a remarkably prescient manner. “

The recently released box set of Toy boasts a tracklist of 13 unplugged recordings from the ‘lost’ album. The special edition also includes previously unseen photographs snapped by Frank Ockenfels, alternative mixes and un-released B-Sides. Music fans will be treated to re-visited versions of the singer’s early material including “You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving”, “Silly Boy Blue” and Bowie’s debut single “Liza Jane”

The box set has been made available in 3CD or 6×10” Vinyl configurations. The energy and spirit accumulated during the album’s process also extend to the box set’s packaging. The sleeve artwork has been designed by the “Starman” singer and depicts Bowie as a baby with his adult facial features.

The album comprises mostly of outtakes and unused studio recordings, due to the personal issues and a hectic touring schedule in which the group were undertaking.

The internal turmoil led to difficulties in booking studio times to rehearse and record, thus much of the album’s material is somewhat fragmented. Despite the hurdles faced when recording and producing the album, Tattoo Me received both commercial and critical success and remains one of the group’s underrated albums and reached number two within the UK Album charts and number one within the US Billboard 200.

Brian Eno has launched a new radio station, The Lighthouse, on SONOS Radio, with the intention of releasing hundreds of unheard pieces of music from his career, which has spanned half a century.

The first installment of the three-part program will feature Eno discussing his motivations for opening up the archives of his work, and his decision to share the new and unreleased material in random order (as opposed to curated).

In a statement, published in Pitchfork, Eno stated that “The music that will be broadcast from The Lighthouse covers a pretty broad period. The earliest track we have at the moment is from 1990. We will be adding more pieces as time goes on. New pieces will be entering the mix and some of that will go back even further. You will be listening to a sequence of tracks which will be randomly generated, chosen by chance so there is the possibility of odd, I hope exciting collisions—things that are very slow next to things that are very fast next to things that have no tempo, no pulse at all.”

The Director of Content at Sonos, Joe Dawson, stated that: “On Sonos Radio, we strive to provide a creative outlet for the artists we collaborate with. For months, we’ve been working with Brian Eno to bring his creative vision for The Lighthouse to life, redefining the possibilities of a radio station. With this living archive, fans can continuously immerse themselves in decades of Brian’s unheard music. This project is a testament to how we approach partnering with artists, bringing exclusive content to the service and continuing to evolve the experience for our listeners on Sonos Radio.”

Eno will premiere over 300 previously unheard tracks. The renowned musician is the latest in host of curators to share music with Sonos; previously artists including Thom Yorke and the Chemical Brothers have created similar stations.

It has been made public that some unreleased covers done by David Bowie will be released on vinyl on what would have been the famous Glam rock, pop star’s 74th birthday. The covers in question were of John Lennon and Bob Dylan. The release will be early in 2021, five years on from the musician’s untimely death, it is not known yet if the vinyl will have more songs on it like a special compilation album but will still be a must for fans of the legendary rock star.

To mark what would have been David Bowie’s 74th birthday, two previously unreleased cover versions, John Lennon’s MOTHER and Bob Dylan’s TRYIN’ TO GET TO HEAVEN, will be released as a limited edition 7” single on 8th January next year. Full press release: https://t.co/cW5mqivAdI pic.twitter.com/dctlfk2T5P

— David Bowie Official (@DavidBowieReal) December 16, 2020

The new limited edition vinyl, named Special 7, will feature covers of John Lennon’s ‘Mother’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘Tryin’ to get to heaven’. Unfortunately, there will only be a limited number of vinyls that’ll be released so fans must be very quick to be in a chance to get their hands on the vinyl. for those that miss the chance to own one, the songs will be available to stream upon release with the vinyl being for collectors more than anything else.

This plan for a limited number of vinyls has left a number of fans fairly upset. Some fans have claimed that this whole limited edition will just be a chance for people to resell them at higher prices on eBay and that it shouldn’t be just a limited edition. Another complaint is that of the lack of numbers up for grabs, unfortunately, there is only 8147 ( a very random number), 1000 of these will be a rare even more limited edition cream coloured vinyl with the remaining 7147 being normal black. Despite some fans being upset, there are a lot who are excited.
