Irish singer songwriter, Dermot Kennedy, will now officially be one of the headline acts at the dearest London festival known as All Points East. Announced only recently and with a welcoming surprise. It will be his second appearance at the Victoria park show after his last show in 2019, before his debut album was released.

Ever since his first album drop he has delivered absolute crackers to the scene and has, in the meantime, released a second studio album last year (2022) called Sonder. Reaching successful levels of feedback and a great deal of critical acclaim, the Irishman continues his pop journey to a steady fame. Bringing him to headlining position at his coming festivals.

The festival All Points East is an annual event prepared to, over the course of 10 days, show the public how to put on a show. Based in London’s Victoria Park it allows the audience to indulge in an alternative rock affair with a beautiful combination of other popular music artists.

As Dermot Kennedy joins the club we can officially accept that the lineup has been rounded up. This includes Stormzy, Kehlani, Sampha, Knucks and more on the first day (18th August). The second day (25th August) consists on a different approach to the stage with bands such as The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Girl In Red, Amyl And The Sniffers, Black Midi and many, many more good acts.

The third day (26th August) is where our friend Kennedy steps in who will be playing alongside Olivia Dean, AURORA, SG Lewis, Novo Amor and more to be announced. Finally the final day (28th August) will be showcasing Haim, Girl In Red (again apparently), Tove Lo, Confidence Man, Snail Mail, Tamino, Romy and too many more to continue. It is quite a freely directed festival and the layout of the acts seems to work perfectly amongst each other.

Dermot Kennedy will make his appearance in London as a grand finale to finish off his mammoth tour around the globe. Having already commenced, today (4th April) he will be playing at the International Centre in Bournemouth, he will be making his way through several cities in the UK before crossing the pond to the US all the way through May and June. Once his American tour comes to an end in the Big Apple his trip returns to Ireland, Scotland and finally, the Big Smoke.

Kasabian, the indie rock band from Leicester, is still going strong despite the departure of Tom Meighan – their previous frontman, back in 2020. Today they survive with Sergio Pizzorno (their chief songwriter) as the new frontman, Tim Carter on guitar, Chris Edwards on bass, and Ian Matthews on drums. And as if to prove they can survive the changed line-up, they’ve released their latest single today, with talks of a new album (The Alchemist’s Euphoria) lined up for August 5th.

As for the new single (it’s called “SCRIPTVRE“ by the way), it was produced by Pizzorno and Stormzy/Adele/Sam Smith collaborator Fraser T Smith. Pizzorno says of the track’s themes that “We all make up this narrative of who we think we are. This is about ripping that up, going against all that and no longer going with your own madness. You need to go somewhere else and re-set everything.”

Pizzorno describes the track’s overall sound as “huge“, which “came from me bouncing off Kanye and old ‘70s soul cuts from digging in crates. There’s a euphoric, beautiful arms-in-the-air moment then goes back to this ferocious, heavy beat. It’s in your face.”

It wasn’t just his own music he was praising though. He referred to his co-producer (Smith) as a “genius“, saying that “It was a great opportunity to work with someone who wasn’t so close. Making a record consumes the hell out of me and becomes this obsession. I can get so close to it that I miss things, but he would encourage me to take things further. He was an amazing foil to have.”

The Alchemist’s Euphoria will be Kasabian’s first album since 2017’s For Crying Out Loud. You can pre-order it from this link. They’ve also got a good few dates coming up around the UK and Europe, visiting the likes of Italy and Germany along the way. You can see the UK leg of their tour down below, and get tickets here.

And sometimes dreams can still come true for the big and small in the industry alike, with them supporting Liam Gallagher at Knebworth this June. Pizzorno described the opportunity as “fucking magical“, remembering fondly how iconic Oasis’ 1996 Knebworth gigs felt at the time.

“They were at the top of the mountain of hysteria, and I was at the perfect age to see them rip something like that to pieces. It was so inspiring. They made you believe that you could do it yourself.”

Scottish indie rock band The Snuts and South London singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri have collaborated on the former’s latest single, “End of the Road“, which can be heard down below. The track was produced in London’s Abbey Road Studios by Detonate and Coffee.

According to The Snuts frontman Jack Cochrane, the song is “A remedy for heartache. We wanted the track to be direct and truly versify a sense of self-forgiveness and redemption.” And as for their special guest vocalist, “The soothing tones of our friend Rachel Chinouriri, who features heavily in the song, helps inject an almost confessional burst of light throughout.”

It sounds like Chinouriri was happy with the result as well, saying that the song “came about quite spontaneously, which is sometimes how the best things come about. I really loved it when I first heard it and when I met the boys the lyrics and melody came to us so naturally.”

Of course, Chinouriri hasn’t been shy about her own material lately, planning her third EP to follow up 2021’s Four° In Winter. You can also hear her latest single “All I Ever Asked“ down below.

“End of the Road” comes about as The Snuts continue to work on their next LP, following their 2021 debut W.L.. However, the record’s a bit of a tall order to follow up with, considering it was the first debut from a Scottish band to debut at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart for over a decade; but hopefully they’ve got some tricks up their sleeve for when the next one comes out.

Both parties also have some gigs coming up to watch out for. You can find tickets for The Snuts here, and Chinouriri can be found here. Their dates can be seen below.

James Righton has released a new single called “Empty Rooms“. It’s the latest track to come from his new album Jim, I’m Still Here, which is due out on July 8th via DEEWEE. And the track has a special guest on keyboards as well – ABBA legend Benny Andersson.

The two met when Righton was helping put together the live band for ABBA’s upcoming Voyage shows in London in celebration of their latest LP. Starting on May 27th in the new ABBA Arena, the show will have the group appearing virtually beside the live band that Righton has helped to build.

He was brought into the project by Johan Renck (director of Bowie’s “Blackstar” video) and couldn’t really turn down the opportunity, working in secret for two years with one of the most iconic bands of the seventies. He admitted that “trying not to say anything to anyone is quite hard when you’re working with such a legendary act like ABBA”.

Righton was of course keen to make the most of the opportunity, noting that the very mention of working with ABBA made his jaw drop. “Whenever you hear an ABBA reunion rumour it just feels so unbelievable.” On working with Andersson for his new track, he said Andersson had “never done anything like this before. I nervously sent him the track and a couple of days later he sent back this keyboard line which was perfect.”

As for the song itself; “Empty Rooms’ is about silent conflicts. It’s about realising one’s own flaws and working through them. Like all the songs on the album it reflects another side of life during lockdown.”

Righton, who used to be a member of Klaxons until the group disbanded back in 2015, has been working on a variety of projects as of late. Some of these have been released under the name of Shock Machine, and he’s even been having a go at film soundtracks recently (e.g. 2019’s Benjamin).

If you’re interested in seeing how Brighton’s hard work has paid off, tickets for ABBA’s Voyage residency can be gotten here.

If you want to pre-order Brighton’s new album then you can click the link here.

Welsh singer Gwenno (Gwenno Mererid Saunders) has released the latest single from her upcoming album, Tresor, which is due out on July 1st via Heavenly Recordings. It’s the second release from the new album, following on from February’s “An Stevel Nowydh“, and it’s called “Men An Toll“. You can listen to the new track below.

After having sung in indie girl group The Pipettes for around five years, Gwenno’s been working hard on her solo career, with Tresor about to become her third full-length studio release. As for the new creative freedom that comes from a solo career, the land of Cornwall seems to be a big inspiration for her at the moment, something she’s exploring at all lengths.

Having grown up with a Welsh-speaking Mum and a Cornish speaking Dad, Gwenno is fluent in both languages. It’s something that came to the fore in her 2018 album Le Kov, which was sung entirely in Cornish. That continues to be the case here, with the Mên-an-Tol standing stones in Cornwall being the inspiration behind this song.

Gwenno explains that “I was inspired by Ithell Colquhoun’s ‘The Living Stones’ as well as the eternal nature of these ancient monuments and how they enable us to reflect on our own nature as human beings and on our relationship to the landscape …. I wanted to share a different and quieter side to the record, one that is grounded in … ambient Celtic music, film scores, and experimental electronic music …. I hope that this collection of songs will serve as a small and helpful reminder of how powerful the sound of gentleness and beauty is.“

The album was written before the lockdown and completed in Gwenno’s Cardiff home with Rhys Edwards producing, and its release will be accompanied by a short film made by Gwenno and filmmaker Clare Marie Bailey. The record’s promised to be “an introspective focus on home and self, a prescient work echoing the isolation and retreat that has been a central, global shared experience over the past two years.“

Nova Twins, the alternative-rock duo from London, have just released the latest single from their upcoming new album Supernova. The single is called “Cleopatra“ and is the third taster of what they’ve been getting up to the past two years, following up 2020’s acclaimed Who Are the Girls?. Other recent singles include last November’s “Antagonist“ and February’s “K. M. B“, an initialism of the apparently common phrase Kill My Boyfriend (for those of you not in the know).

This latest track was inspired by the rise of Black Lives Matter, something especially important to the Nova Twins. Both Amy Love (vocals/guitar) and Georgia South (bass) are mixed-race, with Love explaining that “Cleopatra’ was written off the back of the Black Lives Matter protests. Attending them made us feel powerful as two mixed-race women in an era where people were suddenly waking up to Anti Racists conversations. It’s about celebrating who we are and being proud of where we come from. We hope this song encourages people from all walks of life to act and feel the same way too.”

The album as a whole will probably have a range of topics to deal with, at least judging by songs like “K. M. B” getting their say. But one thing that really helped shape its development (and that of most music at the moment) was the pandemic. The band have said that “‘Supernova’ is the beginning of a new era. As we delved into the unknown, making this album became our medicine through a turbulent time …. It’s a journey of lockdown and coming out the other end a winner. We’re really excited. “

Having been called by Tom Morello “the best band you’ve never heard of”, there’s plenty of reason to be excited by this new spate of activity. Supernova will be out on June 17th via Marshall Music, and that’s not all. In support of the album’s release, the duo have recently announced three special UK tour dates in November, promised as their “biggest UK headline shows to date“. You can see the complete dates below, and if you’re interested in getting tickets you can look here.
