Scottish shoegaze band The Jesus And Mary Chain have released another single ahead of their upcoming album drop later this year. “Chemical Animal” will feature on the band’s eighth studio album to date, Glasgow Eyes, which is set to be released on March 8 via Fuzz Club.

This LP, announced back on November 29 with the release of the record’s lead single “Jamcod”, will be the band’s latest release since 2017 and will be followed swiftly by a UK and European tour, commencing with two dates at the Albert Hall in Manchester on March 22 and 23 respectively, and ending at Den Atelier in Luxembourg on April 25.

Listen to “Chemical Animal” below:

“People should expect a Jesus and Mary Chain record, and that’s certainly what Glasgow Eyes is,” Jim Reid said in a statement. “Our creative approach is remarkably the same as it was in 1984, just hit the studio and see what happens. We went in with a bunch of songs and let it take its course. There are no rules, you just do whatever it takes. And there’s a telepathy there—we are those weird not-quite twins that finish each other’s sentences.”

The Jesus And Mary Chain, founded in 1983 in East Kilbride by brothers Jim and William Reid, who are responsible for the majority of the songwriting, are the source of inspiration behind the band’s sound, and remain the group’s only ever-present members. The pair enlisted Douglas Hart on bass and Murray Dalglish on drums, who was soon replaced by Primal Scream’s Bobbie Gillespie, and released their debut single “Upside Down” in 1984, which was soon followed by their critically acclaimed debut album Psychocandy the following year, an LP that firmly established the group’s popularity in the up-and-coming UK shoegaze scene and brought with it the much-loved fan favourite “Just Like Honey“.

Watch the music video for “Just Like Honey” below:

Their second album, Darklands, proved to be the band’s most successful, reaching number five on the UK Albums Chart. Four more albums followed before The Jesus And Mary Chain disbanded in 1999, with both brothers starting different, yet ultimately unsuccessful, music projects. The band then reunited in 2007 and released their first material in ten years with the single “All Things Must Pass,” before releasing their seventh studio album, Damage And Joy, in 2017.

The current line-up consists of the Reid brothers, of course, along with bassist Mark Crozer, guitarist Scott Von Ryper and drummer Justin Welch.

British shoegaze legends Slowdive have announced a UK/EU tour off the back of their new album ‘everything is alive’ which was released last Friday (September 1). Tickets can be purchased here.

The academy sized tour starts at the Parsdiso in Amsterdam on January 24th and commences in Manchester on February 27th. The band announced the tour alongside releasing new single ‘alife’.
‘everything is alive’ marks the band’s second album since reunifying in 2014 and releasing their self-titled album in 2017.

The new album ‘everything is alive’ deals with emotionally heavy themes as band members Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead both dealt with the death of a parent before beginning to record the album. Halstead has however gone on to say: “I thought it was going to be quite a dark record but once we got together as a band, I think some of that darkness lifted and some of the tunes became a bit lighter,”

The band has gained a big cult-following since disbanding in 1995, thanks to the influence of albums like ‘Souvlaki’ and ‘Just for a Day’. The cult-favourite band also played Glastonbury for the first time ever earlier this year.

We are also very pleased to announce our UK and European tour in 2024. For tickets and further information visit -> https://t.co/IRPFlDHjnH pic.twitter.com/UV1RBM6FW2 — Slowdive (@slowdiveband) August 30, 2023

The first part of the tour consists of dates mostly in Northern Europe in cities like Paris, Stockholm and Copenhagen whilst rounding out the latter half of the tour across academy venues in the UK.

The UK dates include stops in Brighton, London, Birmingham, Glasgow and many more.

The band are about to undergo a mostly sold out tour of the United States across September and October, before heading back to the UK and Ireland in October and November to play a selection of shows, of which most are already sold out.

Tickets for the UK shows will go on sale on Wednesday, September 16th and tickets can be purchased here.

British shoegaze band Bdrmm have started a crowdfunder to fund their upcoming autumn tour after a non-payment following a festival appearance has left them out of pocket. The band claim to be owed an outstanding payment of £6,500, without which they will struggle to continue with their autumn European tour, which is scheduled to kick off in Bruges, Belgium on 17 October and end on 5 November in Nijmegen, Netherlands.

The Hull based band last Friday 1 September issued a statement via Twitter (X) concerning their unfortunate circumstances. It read, “Hello! As a band we’re going through some financial hardship due to non-payment by promoters for a performance outside of the country – a show which heavily cost us to get to. This, paired with inflating tour costs, has left us unable to fund our October/November tour. As an independent band, touring is vital to our survival and we rely on promoters to do the decent thing and actually pay us. This is something that hasn’t happened recently regarding a show that promised a substantial fee and has left us seriously out of pocket.”

It continued, “Therefore, we’ve set up a crowdfund to help us recoup the money we have lost due to non-payment. Anything you can give to help us get this show on the road would be greatly appreciated. As well as this, to raise funds we’ve made all our tour stock of vinyl and tees available for purchase at a discounted price this Bandcamp Friday. Every purchase is greatly appreciated and all the money will go towards helping us eat and sleep comfortably on the road.”

After an extremely positive and uplifting public response, Bdrmm lead vocalist and guitarist Ryan Smith posted a video onto Twitter (X) outlining his appreciation to all those who donated to the crowdfunder appeal and those who purchased band merch in the form of vinyl copies of albums and t-shirts.

Watch the heartwarming video below:

thank you all so so much. people are fucking incredible. x pic.twitter.com/3yTCAQCmJZ

— bdrmm (@smellybdrmm) September 2, 2023

The crowdfunder, appropriately named ‘The “bdrmm got effed over” fund’, has already amassed £4,296 by way of donations, 66% of its target of £6,500. You can contribute by clicking here.

Bdrmm released their second and latest album, I Don’t Know, via Rock Action Records this June, and the band were hoping to showcase this new material on their upcoming tour.
