Cambridge emo rockers Lonesome have just announced details of their debut album, ‘In The Hope This Finds You’. The first full-length effort from the band will be released on September 19, through Easy Life records.

Along with the announcement on July 4, the group dropped a new single titled ‘You Say It’s Love’, giving fans a taster of what the upcoming album will hold. In a press release, they broke down the meaning of the new song: “Following the bruised introspection of ‘Save Your Words’, ‘You Say It’s Love’ sharpens the focus – no longer lost in aftermath, but standing face-to-face with the quiet duplicity of love spoken, not shown.

“This is not a song of heartbreak, but of exposure. It peels back the veneer of romantic performance, revealing the rot beneath sweet words left unproven. There is a simmering restraint here – a tension that asks, ‘What is love without truth?’ It’s a confrontation, not a collapse. The bitterness is measured, precise – ‘bleeding out the bitter heart of you’ doesn’t scream; it cuts. In that wound, the track finds its strength: the clarity that comes when illusions finally fall away.

“In the end, ‘You Say It’s Love’ doesn’t mourn what was lost – it questions whether it was ever there at all.”

A recent article from Already Heard detailed some of the storytelling behind ‘In The Hope This Finds You’, visually and conceptually. The release will centre around two characters: the anonymous figure (concealed beneath a red sheet) and the main protagonist. It’s said that the anonymous figure represents the “personification of deceit”, while the protagonist is embodied by two symbols: a blindfold and a crown. You can see some of this imagery manifest in their music video for ‘You Say It’s Love’, where both characters are present.

The tour follows the success of Wunderhorse’s latest album, Midas, released this year, with which the band offered a crunchier, garage-inspired sound, departing from moodier grunge tones of their earlier work. The Alexandra Palace performance in London marks the culmination of Wunderhorse’s UK tour and will be their biggest headline show to date. Known for their grunge-inspired guitars and high-energy live shows, Wunderhorse has quickly become recognised for Slater’s intense, mumbled vocals recalling a Lou Reed-Mark Knopfler hybrid.

Midas, which reached the Top 10 in the UK album charts and met strong reviews. Hotpress called the album “a masterful effort from Wunderhorse, marking their transformation from indie upstarts to major rock contenders.” The review praises the band’s “fiercely detailed” and “grunge-infused” sound, describing the album as both “refined and ambitious”.

Frontman Jacob Slater has described their recording approach as “very imperfect, very live, very raw.” The record is their second, following the success of their debut album Cub in 2022, and has solidified their presence in the UK music scene, with notable media coverage and live appearances boosting their profile further.

In addition to their UK tour dates, Wunderhorse has seen a steady rise in popularity internationally. This year, the four-piece performed at the BBC Introducing stage at Reading Festival, drawing a record crowd of 7,000, and secured several high-profile support slots, including as an opener for Sam Fender’s arena tour. Their viral on-stage energy and performances have earned them a growing fanbase, particularly on social media, where videos of their shows often capture the attention of viewers across multiple generations of rock enthusiasts.

Wunderhorse’s recent tours have seen them play alongside fellow rock contemporaries Fontaines D.C., joining them for several European shows. This collaboration will continue in 2025 with Wunderhorse supporting Fontaines D.C. in Oceania, performing dates across Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The band has also gained traction in the United States, with a tour planned there for 2025 and a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert furthering their visibility abroad.

British rock band The Struts have unveiled their latest single, Can’t Stop Talking, in the midst of their ongoing European headline tour. The new release, which show the marks of power pop and modish influences, is accompanied by a new lyric video and has already been featured in recent live performances.

The track marks a slight departure from previous releases dubbed classic or glam rock, incorporating electronic and pop elements. Frontman Luke Spiller delivers chatty vocals over a sparse synth-filled rhythm section, while gritty guitars harken back to the band’s rock MO.

According to Spiller, Can’t Stop Talking represents a fresh and spontaneous approach to songwriting. Reflecting on the song’s conception, Spiller recalls the atmosphere in the studio: “It was very off the cuff, and everyone in the room was laughing a lot. Sometimes that’s a great sign. What’s the point in not enjoying the process?” This light-hearted yet meaningful philosophy seems to have played a key role in the crafting of the track.

Despite the playful nature of the song, Spiller emphasises the sincerity behind the lyrics. “I think that’s why we can get away with a song that is beautifully bizarre,” he explains. “It’s because I actually mean the lyrics, even if they do come across light-hearted. Believe me. I lived through that character in the song many times.”

The Struts, formed in Derby in 2012, have long been known for their dynamic stage presence and electrifying performances. Their rise to fame began with their 2016 debut album, Everybody Wants, which featured the anthemic track Could Have Been Me. The song quickly achieved US certified-Platinum status and propelled the band onto the international stage. Since then, The Struts—comprised of Spiller, guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliott, and drummer Gethin Davies—have become a staple of modern rock, performing alongside legendary acts such as The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, and Guns N’ Roses.

Their discography, which includes the follow-up albums Young & Dangerous (2018) and Strange Days (2020), showcases the band’s ability to blend classic rock influences with contemporary flair. This combination has earned them critical acclaim and a loyal fan base, as well as a number one spot on Spotify’s Viral Top 50. Meanwhile, collaborations with major artists like Robbie Williams, Kesha, and Tom Morello have foreshadowed a versatility across genres now seen in the synthy ‘Can’t Stop Talking’.

‘Can’t Stop Talking‘ arrives as part of the band’s latest phase, following the release of their 2023 album, Pretty Vicious, under Big Machine Records. The album was met with praise, while their return to the main stage at Download Festival earlier this year marked a major milestone in their career.

Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) has announced that they will perform their final show at London’s Hyde Park on 13 July 2024. The event is part of the British Summer Time (BST) outdoor concert series, a fitting venue for the band’s swan song given its historical significance in ELO’s recent resurgence. Tickets for the highly anticipated show will be available for general sale on 25 October, with a pre-sale starting on 23 October.

Lynne, now 76, reflected on the choice of venue in a statement on Instagram: “My return to touring began at Hyde Park in 2014. It seems like the perfect place to do our final show.” That 2014 concert, part of BBC Radio 2’s Festival in a Day, marked the first performance under the moniker Jeff Lynne’s ELO and revitalised the band’s touring career. It was also their first live performance in 28 years.

The upcoming Hyde Park concert will follow the band’s ongoing “Over and Out” farewell tour across North America, which began in August and is set to conclude at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on 25 October. The tour was named before the death of ELO’s co-founder and long-time keyboardist Richard Tandy, who passed away in May this year at the age of 76. Lynne paid tribute to Tandy, calling him a “remarkable musician” and “dear friend.”

Tandy had been an integral part of ELO since its inception in 1970, when the group emerged from the Birmingham music scene. Known for blending rock with classical music, the band dominated the charts in the 1970s and early 1980s with hits like “Mr. Blue Sky”, “Evil Woman”, and “Don’t Bring Me Down”. Their distinctive sound, characterised by symphonic strings and lush arrangements, became a defining feature of the era’s popular music.

After disbanding in 1986, Lynne shifted his focus to production, working with notable artists including George Harrison and Tom Petty. However, ELO’s legacy continued in various forms, most notably through the contentious ELO Part II, led by original drummer Bev Bevan. This incarnation of the group toured without Lynne’s involvement, which created a lasting rift between the two.

It was not until the release of Zoom in 2001 that Lynne resumed his role at the helm of ELO, though an accompanying tour was ultimately cancelled. A true reunion did not materialise until 2014 with the aforementioned Hyde Park performance, followed by the release of Alone in the Universe in 2015 and a high-profile slot at Glastonbury in 2016.

The Hyde Park show in 2024 will not only serve as a capstone to the band’s remarkable 50-year career but also marks the closure of a chapter in British rock history. Jim King, CEO of European Festivals at AEG Presents, expressed his excitement about hosting the gig, saying: “Jeff Lynne’s ELO are loved the world over. The live shows are nothing short of extraordinary and a testament to the incredible catalogue of hits we’ve enjoyed for over 50 years.”

British rock legend Bruce Dickinson has unveiled his latest musical creation, the electrifying single ‘Rain On The Graves,’ along with a visually stunning accompanying video. The track is the second release from his eagerly anticipated solo album, ‘The Mandrake Project,’ set to hit the shelves on March 1 through BMG.

The song, inspired by a rainy excursion to William Wordsworth’s grave in the picturesque Lake District, encapsulates Dickinson’s signature style. With a towering guitar riff, dramatic keyboards, and Dickinson’s commanding vocals, ‘Rain On The Graves’ delves into themes of mortality and the timeless allure of artistic sacrifice. The frontman reflects on the origins of the song, stating, “I had the chorus lyric since I visited Grasmere for a wedding back in 2012, and it wasn’t difficult years later to create the rest of the song with so much rich imagery in my head!”

The accompanying video, shot against the wintery backdrop of Cornwall and directed by Ryan Mackfall, features Dickinson in a riveting performance as a preacher negotiating with the Devil, with his ‘House Band from Hell’ in tow.

Following the success of the acclaimed track ‘Afterglow Of Ragnarok’, ‘Rain On The Graves’ serves as another testament to the inventive and expansive nature of ‘The Mandrake Project’. The album, co-created with producer Roy Z, promises to be one of the defining rock releases of 2024.

However ‘The Mandrake Project’ is more than just an album; it’s a multimedia experience. Accompanying the music is a dark, adult-themed comic series of the same name, penned by Dickinson himself and scripted by Tony Lee, illustrated by Staz Johnson, and featuring covers by industry heavyweight Bill Sienkiewicz. Set against the backdrop of scientific and occult genius, the series explores themes of power, abuse, and identity. The first episode made its debut on January 17, with the special Collector’s Edition selling out within 48 hours.

Bruce Dickinson and his band will bring ‘The Mandrake Project’ to life on a headline tour this spring and summer. An extra show in Wolverhampton at The Halls on May 16 has just been added, with presale details available here.

‘The Mandrake Project’ will mark Bruce Dickinson’s seventh solo album, hitting the global music scene on March 1 through BMG. Fans can secure their copy by pre-ordering here. Stay tuned for more updates on the progression of ‘The Mandrake Project’ as the narrative intricacies unfold within this multifaceted musical project.

Catch Bruce Dickinson and band live on the following dates:

16/05/24 – The Halls – Wolverhampton

18/05 – Barrowland Ballroom – Glasgow

Lead singer and frontman Justin Hawkins, in a recent press release, has said of the tour, “We, The Darkness, are delighted to announce that we’ll be hitting the road in the U.K. once again. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Permission to Land, our set will include every song from our debut album faithfully reproduced (with additional clam notes and meanderings) in the order in which they appear on the record. We’ll also play all of your favourite Darkness songs from the rest of our illustrious and tipsy turvy career. It will be the best show you’ll see this year. I should know, I’m the singer and also a YouTube music expert.”

The Darkness formed in 2000 in Lowestoft with an initial line-up of Justin Hawkins (lead vocals, lead guitar) , his brother Dan Hawkins (guitar), Frankie Poullain (bass) and Ed Graham (drums). The group released their debut seminal album, Permission To Land, in 2003 to widespread critical acclaim, with the album topping the UK Albums Chart and achieving quadruple platinum status after 1.3 million copies were sold. This album also contained the hit single “I Believe in a Thing Called Love“, by far the band’s most popular track.

The group reunited in 2011, however, and have gone on to release a further five albums, all to reasonably favourable receptions.

British rockers Pure Reason Revolution have released a new single “Phantoms” from their upcoming album Above Cirrus. You can listen to the song on all available streaming services, and you can check out the music video below.

Pure Reason Revolution recently announced their fifth studio album, entitled Above Cirrus. The record will be released on 6th May 2022 via InsideOutMusic. The album is the follow-up to 2020’s Eupnea, which was the band’s first full-length effort since reuniting in 2019. The band’s own Jon Courtney said of the new single: “This song came together very quickly & is probably the most electronic track on the record; using pulses from my JUNO 2 into doom riffs, while also displaying our signature vocals. Looking forward to seeing PRR fans rock & simultaneously awkwardly dance to this! We’ll be doing the same from the stage.”

Guitarist Greg Jong added: “We’re getting very excited about the tour, there is fabulous music we’ve made that’s practically begging to be played live — I mean, we’ve completed two full-length records in the last couple of years, yet it’s amazing to me that we haven’t played a single gig in all that time! It’s going to be really cool to bring these songs to an actual in-person audience, I know everyone is going to enjoy the shows so much.”

According to a recent press release, Above Cirrus is a narrative driven concept album. Jon Courtney said of the lyrical themes on the record: “Often my writing occupies itself with relationships; how we can be so tender/loving with each other in one instance, days later or even in a few flashes we’re tearing each other apart. The sublime & the savage/vicious. The music reflects this light & shade dynamic shift too. Our world shrinks through lockdowns/restrictions & strain is intensified. However, the end message is one of optimism – affirmation we’ll get to the end of this surreal chapter & be stronger together. Through the turbulence, we’ll help each other through the darkness.”

Pure Reason Revolution will also be heading out on a European tour this month, with one UK date at the Earth Theatre in London. Full dates and ticket information can be found here.

However, in August Gilbert shared via social media that he had stopped medical treatment and had begun treatment for pain relief at Island of Wright centre, Countess Mountbatten Hospice. Gilbert shared the news via Twitter.

I have, unfortunately, been taken off of treatment and am now being treated for pain relief at Countess Mountbatten Hospice. The pains are mostly under control and the nurses here are nothing less than angels. 1/3

But I’m now in an uncertain future where I don’t know how long I have and what the days will look like. I’m trying to get home for a couple of hours a day to see the kids, energy willing, and hope I can still find the time to create. I’m impossibly lucky to have the family 2/3

The song, written by Mick Jagger, features his guitar and vocals, alongside Grohl on drums, backing guitar and bass. The track is inspired by lockdown and all the trials and trends that have come with the coronavirus pandemic. The lyrics cite flat earthers and ‘footballs fake applause.’ Jagger sings: “Looking out from these prison walls/ You got to rob Peter if you’re paying Paul/ But it’s easy easy / Everything’s gonna get really freaky/ Alright on the night /Soon it’ll be be a memory you’re trying to remember to forget/That’s a pretty mask/ But never take a chance TikTok stupid dance/Took a samba class yeah I landed on my ass/ Trying to write a tune you better hook me up to Zoom.”

The legendary pair also released a music video to accompany their song. Appearing remotely, in separate studios, the video begins with a snippet of Grohl on the drums in a filter of red; meanwhile, Jagger is filmed in black and white as he plays the guitar and begins to sing.

Speaking about the song with Rolling Stone magazine, Mick Jagger said: “It’s a reflection on the last year – the physical and mental strains put on society. The whole year, we’ve been doing this and going through different emotions through it and having false starts and stops and openings and closings.”

Dave Grohl announced ‘Eazy Sleazy’ via the Foo Fighter’s official Instagram, he wrote: “It’s hard to put into words what recording this song with Sir Mick Jagger means to me. It’s beyond a dream come true. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any crazier……and it’s the song of the summer, without a doubt!!”

Speaking with BBC 6 Music’s Matt Everitt, Jagger explained how he and Grohl got together. He revealed that their paths had crossed numerous times throughout the years and that they had kept in touch after meeting on Saturday Night Live. The pair also performed Stones shows together and a series of impromptu jams. The 77-year-old rock star said, “I like his style, he’s a great musician.”

You can watch and listen to ‘Eazy Sleazy’ now on YouTube.
