The manager for The 1975 has said that their headline slot at Glastonbury will be the only show they play in 2025, as the band complete their new album.

Jamie Oborne, who has managed the band for years, appeared on The Money Trench podcast earlier this week, discussing the band’s plans for Glasto this year. He confirmed that this will be the only show for the alt-pop rockers in 2025.

“It’s such a big gig, and it’s the only show that we’re playing this year,” Oborne explained. “[Matty Healy] thought doing it in isolation would be a really powerful thing. I obviously agreed with him, as I often do.”

The ‘Chocolate’ hitmakers are headlining the Pyramid Stage on Friday, 27 June. The other names at the top of the bill for this year’s Glastonbury are Olivia Rodrigo and Neil Young.

Fans have been speculating about the next release from The 1975 since the group announced they would be returning to the stage and updated their social media profiles. There have been reports that the new album could see Matt Healy lyrically delve into his short-lived relationship with Taylor Swift.

Oborne let listeners know that something was on the way: “They’re making a record at the moment. I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one.”

He hinted at something special coming to fruition with the project, adding that “it’s already a pretty extraordinary record” and he has a “constant discourse about it” with the band. He says that he thinks the band have “earned the right to take their time” as “The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”

It’ll be the groups first album since their performance at the 2023 Good Vibes festival in Malaysia, which saw the band banned from the country after breaking its strict anti-LGBTQ laws. Frontman Matty Healy and bassist Ross McDonald shared a kiss onstage during their set, which led to the festival being closed down as the band faced scrutiny and legal action.

A high court judge in Malaysia ruled in February that the band are cleared of any individual liability that would have specifically targeted the four members of the band. Festival organizers Future Sound Asia are still able to continue their lawsuit against the band’s corporate entity, The 1975 Productions LLP.

Oborne said on the matter: “It was a very stressful time. I’m actually now suing the Malaysian promoter in Malaysia, but the press only really reported the salacious side of it, not what subsequently has been found by a High Court judge, that actually, the Malaysian promoter broke contract, and that’s why we have contracts.”

Regardless of the on-stage controversy, The 1975 have made themselves one of the UK’s most successful acts, with the band earning a huge £5 million profit from their last tours. They embarked on the extensive ‘At Their Very Best’ tour in 2022 to 2023, supporting their fifth studio album, ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’. They carried on with a second tour titled ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ in September 2023, all the way through to March 2024.

This year’s Glastonbury lineup features a wide range of acts, including Charli XCX, Deftones, Doechii, Kneecap, Lola Young, Loyle Carner and more. You can find our latest coverage on the festival here.

Scottish singer and frontwoman of 90s rock band Garbage, Shirley Manson, has made her thoughts known on her unfair treatment in the music industry as well as in her personal life as a 58 year old woman. Manson discusses these struggles throughout her music career in an interview with the Guardian. With the singer’s difficulties performing since breaking her hip on the tour of their 2016 album ‘Strange little birds’, she was forced to work on their latest album remotely. Here, she explores her thoughts on her place in the music industry “at this late stage in my career”, going on to say that this time of thinking was ‘dark and depressing and soul-crushing, and also kind of wonderful.’.

Since their formation in 1993, the band rose to popularity after their debut self-titled album ‘Garbage’, which sold over 4 million copies worldwide. They have an impressive chart profile, with their hit song ‘Stupid girl’ which reached great heights, peaking at number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. Being in the public eye in the 90s, Manson has opened up about how she was perceived in the media at the time, stating that coverage was often “really degrading or sexual in nature, or just nasty shit”.

The singer is still seemingly receiving this treatment in the media. The band have posted several promo pictures in the run-up to the album’s release, which has caught media attention. In a scathing article from The Daily Mail, Manson was described as “unrecognisable” in album promo. The singer clapped back unflinchingly in an Instagram post, screenshotting the headline and bringing glory to the beauty and natural process of aging. She proclaims “I will continue to age as I am. I will continue to wrinkle and flub”, ending the caption with the promise “I will always – and forever – rock HARDER than most”.

Manson’s response is not unexpected, being vocal about the image of older women in the music industry. Fans continue to share her past words of wisdom in interviews, praising her ability to speak out and inspire.

Her powerful voice and rebellious persona quickly made her a standout in the music world. With Garbage, she released hits like “Stupid Girl” and “Only Happy When It Rains,” propelling the band to the top of the rock charts and establishing Shirley as a charismatic and unique artist. Beyond her music, Shirley Manson is a powerful role model for women of all ages. Known for her authenticity, she speaks her mind and resists societal norms, particularly in her fight against ageism—the prejudice against people based on age. Shirley is unafraid to talk openly about aging and sees it as a strength, not a weakness. She demonstrates that one can be bold and relevant beyond youth, inspiring not only younger but also older women. Shirley is also deeply committed to women’s rights and gender equality, which she reflects in her public statements and her art. She uses her platform to address issues affecting women and advocates for greater visibility and respect for women in the music industry and beyond. Her openness, courage, and determination make her a powerful role model for women worldwide who value authenticity, self-acceptance, and equality. #shirleymanson #garbage #uk #ageism #empowerment #femunitycollective ♬ Originalton – Femunity

Approaching this release date, the band have shared the album’s opening track ‘There’s No Future in Optimism’, inspired by George Floyd’s murder at the hands of a white policeman in 2020. The singer states in an interview with NME that the album as a whole is “about what it means to be alive, and about what it means to face your imminent destruction,”.
Garbage’s new album will surely be accepted with open arms, and Manson’s vulnerability and empowerment will make for an exciting release.

It has been confirmed that British musician Ian McDonald has passed away at the age of 75. McDonald founded the prog-rock band King Crimson and classic rock group Foreigner. The tragic news was confirmed by McDonald’s son via social media; the post stated that McDonald had sadly lost his battle with cancer.

In the post to Ian McDonald’s official fan page on Facebook, the multi-instrumentalist’s son posted the heart-warming statement. “I’m deeply saddened to tell you that my father passed away yesterday from cancer. He was incredibly brave, and never lost his kindness or his sense of humour even when the going was rough.” He continued to pay tribute to his father, “My father was a brilliant, intuitive musician, a gentle soul, and a wonderful dad. He will live on forever through his beautiful music and the love of his fans. Thank you all.” Al Greenwood, Foreigner co-founder, also posted a touching tribute to his bandmate via Facebook.

McDonald was an accomplished musician, predominately a saxophonist he also played the keyboard, flute, vibraphone and guitar. Before he was making waves in the rock scene, McDonald learnt his craft as an army musician, where he also taught himself music theory. Upon his departure from the Army, he joined forces with Judy Dyble, Robert Fripp and Michael Giles to form King Crimson. The group’s debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King, was released on 10th October 1969 via Island Records, and has proved to be highly influential and is regarded as one of the earliest successes within the prog-rock genre.

After leaving King Crimson, McDonald moved to New York City and in 1976 co-founded Foreigner. The group sired a huge catalogue of hits and became one of modern music’s most popular groups, McDonald played the guitar, woodwind instruments and keyboards. The group released their self-titled debut album in 1977, the ten-track album featured three big hits, “Feels Like the First Time” and “Long, Long Way From Home”. The album also featured the single “Cold as Ice”, the track is highly ranked in published lists of greatest songs and is now regarded a key part of the rock genre’s canon.

McDonald left the group after their third studio album Headgames released in 1979 and saw great success as a session musician. McDonald’s musical talents can be heard on “Get it On (Bang a Gong)” by T-Rex. The talented artist continued to lend his talent to further collaborations and produced several albums. In 1999, McDonald released his solo album entitled Drivers Eyes, the album featured King Crimson band member John Wetton and Foreigner frontman Lou Gramm.

Since the news of the musician’s tragic passing, tributes from McDonald’s peers and fans have been pouring in. Among his bandmates, musicians who have also paid their respect include Gary Kemp, Sid Smith and the classic rock group Asia. The tributes posted to social media all tell of McDonald’s incredible influence and hail his immense musical talent.

UK rock band Clockwork Wolf & Co. have released a music video for the song “Idle Hands” from the 2018 E.P. In The Sunshine. The music video was put out on December 24th and can be viewed at the link below.

Clockwork Wolf & Co. play a heavy, groove-laden style of blues-tinged rock music and are fronted by someone who may be a familiar face to those who are fans of British guitar music, Rob Chapman. Rob Chapman is perhaps best-known as the founder and owner of the acclaimed guitar brand Chapman Guitars, who have seen a great deal of success over the last few years, working with artists such as Lacuna Coil, Tides of Man and popular YouTuber musician Rob Scallon. Much of Chapman’s following was also amassed from his work as a presenter for the YouTube channel of music store Andertons, and his own YouTube channel, where he would demo various kinds of music gear.

Chapman was also in a similar band called Dorje, who have amassed several million streams on Spotify between their two E.Ps Catalyst (2015) and Centred and One (2016). Unfortunately, Chapman confirmed earlier this month that the group had officially split up after several years of inactivity.

In an Instagram statement posted on the 16th of December, Chapman said: “Hey guys, I am very sad to say that @dorjeofficial is no more… I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the incredible people who supported us on our musical journey over the years… From now on all of our energy will be directed into our individual projects @thetotemistofficial @clockworkwolfandco @musicisum thank you for being a part of our journey and we hope to see you at a gig soon, Rob.”

You can read the full statement here.

In addition to this new music video, Clockwork Wolf & Co. released a new E.P. entitled Church Of The Wolf earlier this year, which can be found on all streaming services alongside the rest of their musical catalogue. The band are also issuing vinyl copies of the E.P, which can be pre-ordered at this link.

The group are also very active on their social media, posting frequent writing and recording updates. On the 1st of December, they posted a series of photos to their Facebook with the caption: “1st Dec Photo-dump! Album writing is almost complete, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the tracks!”

Ozzy Osbourne has confirmed via social media that Zakk Wylde can be heard on every track of his upcoming album. The Prince of Darkness confirmed the news on Facebook Live, the singer was asked the question “Does Zakk play all of the rhythm guitars on the new album?”. To which Osbourne replied, “Yes, Zakk plays all of the rhythm guitars on the new album, He was home from tour this time unlike when I did Ordinary Man.” The question was posed by The Diary of the Madman- The Ultimate Ozzy podcast, who later posted the conversation.

The singer’s hotly-anticipated album also features guest appearances from Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Black Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi. The singer will also be reuniting with Andrew Watt on his upcoming thirteenth studio album. The producer previously worked with Osbourne on his 2020 studio album Ordinary Man. The album was released on 21st February 2020 via Epic Records and marked the first time Watt and Osbourne worked together. The two initially crossed paths after Watt’s met Kelly Osbourne, Osbourne’s daughter. Watts connected with Osbourne and convinced the singer to collaborate with Post Malone. On 6th September 20019, Post Malone released the track “Take What You Want” which featured the Black Sabbath frontman.

Wylde initially confirmed his involvement with Osbourne’s new album to Music Radar in October. The guitarist stated, “It definitely sounds slamming, The same goes for all the guys – what Tony Iommi played, and then Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, it’s all killer for sure. On those tracks I’m playing rhythm guitar for my heroes… it’s crazy! It sounds awesome and I’m beyond honored to be doing it. The new Ozzy stuff is sounding great. And for sure, it’s an honor to play on a record with all my heroes, I’ve always loved Blow By Blow and Wired, but honestly every record Jeff Beck has put out is amazing.”

The guitarist has become synonymous with virtuosic musicianship and is best known as Osbourne’s touring and lead guitarist. The 54-year-old artist first came to work with Osbourne aged 19 through an audition, he was soon hired as the singer’s co-writer and lead guitarist. Wylde has worked with Osbourne on and off for over 34 years and the two have built a musical and personal connection. Wylde is the fourth musician to carry the job and holds a special connection with Osbourne’s original guitarist.

Wylde was recruited to replace Jake E. Lee who played with Osbourne until 1987. Lee was hired to replace guitarist Brad Gillis, best known for his time in the rock group Night Ranger. Gillis was brought on to replace Randy Rhoads after his untimely death. The 25-year-old guitarist tragically lost his life in a plane crash whilst on tour with Osbourne in 1982. Despite Rhoads short career, he is regarded as a highly influential figure due to his technical talent and stage presence. Wylde has often cited Rhoads as a huge influence on his musical style, the guitarist frequently discusses his love for Rhoads and Black Sabbath.

The release date for Osbourne’s upcoming album has yet to be confirmed.
