Charli XCX’s new album ‘Wuthering Heights’ has stormed to Number One on the UK Album Charts on February 20th, with a brooding, hyper-modern take on Emily Brontë’s classic tale of obsession and doomed romance. Framed as both a film soundtrack and a pop-music cultural moment, the album builds upon her bold, confrontational musical statements, affirmed with the ‘Brat‘ album, but extending into darker territory.

Released to coincide with Emerald Fennell’s big-screen adaptation of Wuthering Heights, the album finds Charli stepping into the role of narrator, ghost and anti-heroine all at once. Across its twelve tracks, she channels the emotional turbulence of the source material into jagged synths, industrial drums and yearning melodies that feel tailor-made for both club systems and midnight headphones. Lead singles ‘House’ and ‘Chains of Love’ set the tone. The former single is a eery, slow-building anthem featuring spoken-word contributions from The Velvet Underground’s John Cale. The latter single is a feverish pop song that twists the language of devotion into something closer to possession, much like themes within the film. Elsewhere, she plays with tempo and texture, drifting between whispered confessionals and full-throttle rave breakdowns.

Critics have praised ‘Wuthering Heights’ as one of Charli’s most cohesive projects to date, noting how it fuses her instinct for hook-heavy pop with the narrative discipline of a film score. Rather than simply decorating the movie, the songs expand its emotional world, moving between characters Cathy’s feral longing, Heathcliff’s rage and the bleak isolation of the moors. Glitches, distorted vocals and choirs buried in reverb create a sense of haunting continuity, as if the album itself were a restless spirit pacing the halls.

Commercially, the project marks a new peak. Topping the charts has confirmed Charli’s ascent from cult and club-classic experimentalist to an artist who can turn a 19th-century novel into a modern-pop hot topic. Early sales and massive first-week streaming numbers have been driven not just by her core fanbase but by a wider audience drawn in by intrigue around the film and the album’s peculiar visuals. The cover features a grainy image of a boiled egg being fed to someone, leaving room for cryptic metaphors regarding the film. Special edition vinyl pressings and elaborate pop-up installations have further fuelled the sense of event around the release.

For pop and film music alike, ‘Wuthering Heights’ proves that a soundtrack can function as a daring, self-contained album that works both in tandem and isolation with the film. For Charli XCX, it cements her status as one of the decade’s defining pop innovators, capable of turning historical pieces of literature into something raw, electric and defiantly alive.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover (Live From Paris)‘ is more than just a live album, it’s a celebration of her dynamic performance style and her deep connection with audiences worldwide. The album achieved the biggest first-week sales for a live album in over a decade, highlighting not only the singer’s widespread popularity but also the strong demand for live recordings that capture the authenticity of her performances. By presenting re-imagined versions of her well-known tracks, the album offers fans a fresh perspective on Taylor’s music, combining intimate live moments with high-energy performances.

Now that the ‘Eras Tour’ is over, the singer is likely to be working on her next album, which could be released in 2026. Another tour might follow after this album is released. Fans eagerly anticipate her next move, as speculation also swirls about future re-recordings and potential new projects. As she adds yet another historic accolade to her name, the question remains, what record will she break next?

In 2024, ‘Short n Sweet‘ topped the charts and didn’t leave the top three for weeks after its release, charting at number one for two non-consecutive weeks.

‘Short n Sweet’ was included in Official Charts’ List of Biggest Albums of 2024, second only to Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘ and The Weeknd’s ‘The Highlights‘, it achieved the third position despite being released relatively late in the year.

The album was released in late August, and it debuted at number one right away. ‘Short n Sweet’ marked Carpenter’s second album to chart in the UK despite the singer had already released multiple albums under a different label. In a recent interview with Vogue, Carpenter discussed the influence her previous label, Hollywood Records, had on her music and revealed that she was originally supposed to release more albums with them. She said: “I definitely didn’t fulfill my contract, thank God.”

After leaving Hollywood Records, Carpenter signed with Island Records. She released ‘Emails I can’t send‘ in 2022, originally debuting at 76 and only charting for one week. The album however gained more popularity as Carpenter gained more attention earlier last year; the song ‘Nonsense’ also received acclaim from critics and fans, specifically for its ever-changing outro which went viral many times on TikTok, and peaked at 32 soon followed by ‘Feather’ which peaked at nineteen. This year, ‘Emails I can’t send‘ peaked at 41.

Carpenter also released a Christmas special titled ‘Fruitcake‘ which peaked at number five in the UK.

Before releasing ‘Short n Sweet‘, Carpenter had already reached new levels of fame and success with the singles that led up to the album, which made the singer a real UK chart-topping queen. ‘Espresso’, ‘Please, Please, Please’ and ‘Taste’ became this past summer’s anthems and spent weeks at the top position of UK charts, breaking records. ‘Espresso’ spent 38 weeks in the top 100 and seven at number one, followed by ‘Please, Please, Please’ spent 18 weeks on charts and nine at number one, and ‘Taste’ spent 24 weeks on charts and nine at number one.

‘Short n Sweet‘ has, so far, spent twenty four weeks in the top 100 and only recently left the top three, chasing at number four for one week. With the release of the deluxe version set for tomorrow, the album is likely to achieve the number one position again in next week’s Album Chart. It would mark the record’s third week at number one. The deluxe is set to contain five tracks, including an exciting feature with Dolly Parton on a new version of ‘Please, Please, Please’ and four brand new tracks.

Taylor Swift’s latest vinyl release ‘Lover (Live From Paris)‘ has officially overtaken Inhaler’s latest album release in the race for this week UK Number One, Official Charts reveals. The record was recently released across Swift’s online shops as a special edition for Valentine’s Day, and is a second pressing of one of Swift’s fans most wanted items: the vinyl features the album cover’s soft pinks and blues and is shaped like a heart, with two song on each side.

Fans all over the UK and Europe have begun receiving the vinyl this week, several days after it was shipped out in the US. The shipment of the vinyls have drastically changed the race for this week’s number one album, with Swift now gaining more chart units than Inhaler’s ‘Open Wide‘ which was released last week and is currently topping the update albums chart.

The vinyl was originally released as a special and very limited edition in 2023, four years after the album ‘Lover‘ was released. Swift held a concert, titled ‘City of Lover’, in Paris in September 2019, weeks after the release of the album, and recorded the set to release it on streaming platforms the following year. ‘Lover (Live from Paris)‘, marked Swift’s fourth live recorded album and only entered UK charts upon the release of the first vinyl edition, in 2023, peaking at 90.

The original album ‘Lover‘ had peaked at number one, and has (so far) spent 268 weeks charting, and is currently charting at 43.

‘Lover (Live from Paris)‘ includes eight songs, all from the ‘Lover‘ album and many of which have made it to Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ setlist. The trackless includes: ‘ME!’, ‘The Archer’, ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’, ‘Cornelia Street’, ‘The Man’, ‘Daylight’, ‘You Need To Calm Down’ and, of course, ‘Lover’. The album’s biggest hit, ‘Cruel Summer’, which peaked at number two in the UK, was not included in the ‘City of Lover’ concert but made it to the ‘Eras Tour’ setlist after its incredible popularity years after the release of the album.

If ‘Lover (Live from Paris)’ achieved the number one spot of this week’s UK chart like it is expected to, it would mark Swift’s 13th album to reach the position. Previously, she had claimed the number one spot with:

1989 (2014)

reputation (2017)

Lover (2019)
