The English rock duo from Brighton released their third album ‘Typhoons’ in April 2021, so the tour follows suitably. After the critical acclaim of ‘Typhoons’ – such as the 4 out of 5-star review from NME which also described the album as “their best work to date”- it can be expected that fans of Royal Blood across the EU are eagerly awaiting for this Friday’s release.

The European tour is set to end in Dublin 3Arena on April 5th, rounding the tour, which beings in PARIS Zenith on 10th March, off nicely.

The duo made up of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher also recently announced that they will be performing on a UK arena tour next year in March and April. Kerr and Thatcher will also be headlining Sheffield’s Tramlines this July. It certainly looks like a promising and exciting future for the band.

There’s a reason behind it. The band shared some thoughts about the release on their twitter: “Over two years ago I decided to sort my life out and get completely sober. My life had become unmanageable. Had I not done this, this album would not exist along with lots of other things I dread to think about”. Adding: “I came out of the dark and into the light and this is exactly what this album represents. No matter how bad the storm, all things must pass”.

It received four stars from NME saying that the band: “certainly pimped their ride with a tweaked engine, some sick racing stripes and a sexy leopard-print interior”. ‘Typhoos’ is less dark than the other two releases ‘Royal Blood’ from 2014 and ‘How Did We Get So Dark’ from 2017. Evening Standard added in their four star review: “The only things that are still dark are the words(…) Listeners may not notice, however. They’ll be too busy dancing”.

At the end of the last tour Royal Blood’s frontman Mike Kerr went clean, quitting drugs and alcohol. He said in an interview: “Instead of destroying the bass, I was basically destroying myself. I got to a point in my life where I had to change my life and reorganise everything. Part of getting fucked up and exhibiting that is also a way of asking for help; you almost want someone to catch you being in a state. The darkest thing is that you can get away with insane shit and it can go unnoticed”. He added: “Sobriety was something I knew I had to do in order to make this record. This album or this band wouldn’t exist if I hadn’t have done this. It was all quite scary.”

Meanwhile, Royal Blood told BBC about meeting up with their Tribute Band ‘Royal Monster’ back in 2018. They went to see the cover band in Brighton: “It was very surreal, but it was also an interesting experience because I guess that’s the closest we can really come to knowing what it’s like to watch a Royal Blood gig”. Kerr added: “I took inspiration from it because I realised there were all these styles and atmospheres and moments in our set that were missing. If there’s anything that inspires my songwriting it’s the idea of a setlist, and our new album, I feel, fills a lot of those voids that were in our set before”.

Royal Blood’s ‘Typhoons‘ is out now via Warner and can be ordered here.

Brighton Duo have delighted fans today with a music video for their first single release of 2021, ‘Typhoons,’ which is the title track of their hotly anticipated third album which will be released 30th of April and is available for pre-order now. The video follows a week after the single was released with their 2020 release ‘Trouble’s Coming,’ included as a B Side. The band continue to pound out dirty, sweaty blues rock in an era of hyper-polished pop music, with the simplicity of their distorted bass and simple drums beat formula ringing true even bow six years after they first emerged from the Brighton Indie scene in 2014.

The music video for ‘Typhoons,’ is both reflective of the lyrics’ apocalyptic content and also refreshingly British, with shots of the London skyline opening the video and a classic grey sky which we in Britain all know so well. The shots have a beautifully ordinary feel with the due performing the track from a rooftop, dressed like ordinary guys and the rest of the shots showing hoards ordinary looking Brits running across the city before reaching the band’s rooftop and sprinting around them in a circle to produce a human typhoon. The guy sky turns to a stormy black at this point in the video and reflects the rising tension as the song reaches its climax.

The video has landed to a vastly positive reception, with the Youtube upload clocking up 71,959 views in just six hours since its premier. It’s hardly surprising that a video from one of Britain’s most explosive Indie Rock bands of the last decade has been well received at this time, with the country locked up and missing live music more than ever. Those of us who are familiar with the band will already know that one thing Royal Blood does very well is live music, with the intimate, sweaty low tier gigs of their early career reaching a legendary status in the community of Rock fans that admire them so much.

The band have also managed to achieve what few artists have really realised the need for during this time and managed to make their music video feel like a physical release. What I mean by this is that as well as the awesome music video, the description box is absolutely crammed full with all the extra content you might expect to find in a CD or Vinyl. The description first informs the audience that their new album, also named ‘Typhoons,’ is to be released on the 30th of April and is available to pre-order. Then follows an exhaustive credit list of everyone involved in making the video and what all vinyl junkies crave for, the full song lyrics and even sleeve liner notes which give us the history of Royal Blood and a description of their accolades.

It is very exciting to be looking forward to a new Royal Blood album in 2021 which may now look to be a very good year for British music, we can only hope that live shows will follow.

Following a surprising teaser from last week, Royal Blood shared their brand new track ‘Typhoons‘ yesterday with exclusive premiere on Annie Mac’s Hottest Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1. The release came alongside the exciting announcement of the rock duo’s third studio record with the same name, expected on 30 April via Warner Music UK. The album is already available to pre-order here on all standard formats and limited edition bundles.

Speaking of the fresh single, Royal Blood said: “Typhoons is what it sounds like to be truly lost in your own thoughts to a hellish extent but also about how dark spells, much like storms are not permanent. This song was one those special moments where the process didn’t resemble writing whatsoever. More like being tethered to the earth, receiving holy lightning.”

So far ‘Trouble’s Coming‘ and ‘Typhoons‘ are the only two singles with official, with the long anticipated and only previously performed live ‘Boilermaker‘ featuring on the yet tracklist. Stay tuned for further updates, potential promotional single releases and all other Royal Blood news prior to the 30 April. Pre-ordering the album now also gives exclusive access to tickets pre-sale for upcoming tour dates.

Typhoons‘ tracklist confirms 11 songs in total. Mainly produced by Kerr and Thatcher, so far it is rumoured that Queens Of The Stone Age’s very own Josh Homme and renowned producer Paul Epworth (also creditted on ‘Trouble’s Coming‘) are involved with few of the tracks.

The new single ‘Typhoons‘ shares the upcoming record’s title and artwork. A modern alt rock composition with all the markings of a future arena anthem and regular radio feature, it also carries the slightly different approach shown by Royal Blood in ‘Trouble’s Coming‘. Groovy, riffy and upbeat, the track reminds once again why Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher have cemented themselves at the forefront of the contemporary UK rock scene ever since their seminal debut.

The hugely anticipated album comes out at the end of April across all digital platforms, standard CD, LP and casette, as well as a picture disc and coloured vinyl. For a short time there are also 8000 copies of a deluxe bundle with “translucent pink/opaque black split colour 12” vinyl album, housed in a metallic foil gatefold outer sleeve, plus an exclusive 7” single containing unreleased track “Space” not available anywhere else, with an etched b-side, […] a large format booklet containing lyrics, credits and imagery and an individually numbered 12” art print“.

The next few months will likely see Royal Blood at the front pages of all webzines and printed magazines, as well as appearing at regular interviews and stories across major stations. Previously, the Brighton duo has released two critically acclaimed chart-topping studio albums, with their self-titled debut (2014) certified double platinum and its follow-up How Did We Get So Dark? (2017) gold in the UK.
