“Stuck In A Car With You” will feature on Twin Atlantic’s upcoming 7th studio album, the name of which is yet to be released. The band’s frontman Sam McTrusty is producing and engineering their new album, and whilst they are in the middle of finishing the LP, the singer has teased fans on what’s to come by stating in an interview with NME that “there are a thousand guitars on the record.”

Sam McTrusty said on the subject of returning to the band’s original pop-punk sound “We’ve put our original fans through a bit of a whirlwind, because every record we’ve made almost sounds like a different band”

“With this record, we wanted to make something for the fans, and the kids who first started this band, ‘Stuck In A Car With You’ is a no-nonsense, fast-paced rock song that shines a spotlight on the emotion behind it.”

McTrusty continued, “Since we released [2011’s] ‘Free’ and [2009’s] ‘Vivarium’, fans have basically been asking us to make those albums again. We’ve never been that excited by revisiting the past, but enough time has passed that it felt interesting to do.”

“‘Stuck In A Car With You’ feels like a return but also, we know so much more about crafting songs now that it still feels fresh.”

Alongside the announcement of their brand new single, Twin Atlantic are hitting the road later this year on an intimate UK tour. McTrusty told NME “Maybe it’s a pre-midlife crisis where we want to go back to our teens, touring in a van to places we don’t normally go, but we’re really excited. The shows are going to be fucking amazing and we’re going to give fans an unforgettable night. We’ve been doing this for a minute now and we know how to put on a show. We’re just going to come in and absolutely smash it.”

With exactly 100 days until the festival takes place, tickets for the event are running a little thin. Discounted early bird, and super early bird tickets have long since sold out. But what few tickets remain for the standard pricing are still available. You can look into tickets here. In a statement released recently, festival organiser and booker James Scarlett said, “There is a lot to be excited about at Trees this year,” adding, “Particular highlights for me are Twin Atlantic doing a special forest acoustic set, the Xcerts headlining Wednesday night in the Forest with a full on rock set and just generally watching the best up & coming rock acts in the world (Cassyette, Salem, GIRLI etc etc etc). I can’t wait!”

 Creeper vocalist Will Gould explained in an interview with NME, the importance of 2000trees for up and coming acts, “In some ways, festivals like 2000 Trees are more important because they highlight loads of smaller up and coming acts that are yet to break through. If you walk around that field, you will find your new favourite band. Those smaller festivals give younger acts the chance to play alongside their heroes and get a sense of what it even means to play a festival. Last years edition of the 2000Trees Festival had been postponed due to ongoing Covid-19 issues as bands from outside the UK were not able to travel. Around 20 headliners bands couldn’t play this year including Jimmy Eats World & Thrice, Young Guns and The Get Up Kids. So just to keep thing ticking along, 2000trees joined forces with ArcTanGent at the end of last August, and put up a special replacement event in Bristol. They ran live gigs for 2 days and both announced a comeback for this year’s festivals edition.

The new track sees the band cover a lot of ground that they have previously, pop-rock melodies with rousing choruses and a little Scottish flair. Except this time the electronic attitude is given a little more room to breathe. Somewhere in between the guy at a party that wants to get everyone dancing and the guy at the back that appreciates the vibe… but doesn’t really want to be involved. Singer, Sam McTrusty, said this about the track on the band’s socials, “Dirty is one of those songs that was just so fun to write and record. It’s a song that’s been in the Twin Atlantic camp for a few years, so was written pre lockdown when Ross and I were going to the studio everyday. I went through a stage of saying everything was “dirty” when it was good, to the point of the ridiculous, so when this type of song started to come together I wanted to make fun of that. Everything else in the song is themed after that, things that on the surface are great, but have a darker background. After more than 10 years of making sincere, heartfelt and almost serious music it was a big relief to just have fun with all the songs people have heard from Transparency so far.”.

 “Dirty” being the 4^th single to be released before the album, hasn’t actually been graced with a video, so see below the video for the first single, “Bang on the Gong”.

Since 2007, the band have always presented itself as a 3-piece (with the obvious 4^th touring member as every official 3-piece has) but in September, long-term drummer Craig Kneale announced his departure from the band. The departure doesn’t seem malicious in any way as the band wish him farewell with encouragement that “The drum stool will always have your name on it”, Kneale then addressed fans saying, “this feels like the right time for me to jump off and try something new”. This obviously moves the band into a different place musically, in an interview with NME regarding the sound of the new project; McTrusty states, “We promised ourselves when we started that we would never make the same album twice”. So as all great bands do when met with a difficult time, they are taking a, “more lo-fi approach.., kind of more back where we started”. The age-old paradox.

As the Courteeners prepare to release their sixth album, ‘More. Again. Forever.’, they are set to take to the main stage, on the opening night, Friday 10 July 2020, of the festival – which will be their first major festival headline performance. The band’s performance will follow their hotly anticipated Glastonbury 2020 sunset performance and their upcoming UK arena tour.

Courteeners frontman, Liam Fray, said: “Scotland took us straight to their hearts, right from the very start. Starting with playing the ABC with The Coral back in 2007, we’ve always had an amazing connection with the people of Scotland. Feels like a 2nd home. To headline TRNSMT is a serious honour and we’ll be bringing a serious party. What a line-up.”

Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher is set to be on a high with his critically acclaimed second album ‘Why Me? Why Not?’, when he takes to the stage to headline Saturday (11 July) night of TRNSMT, with him set take to the stage after Foals and Keane.

“I love Scotland and It’s an honour to be going back to headline TRNSMT Festival. P.s. Have I told you lately that I Love You?”, said Gallagher.

After his successful year, at the festival last summer, Lewis Capaldi will receive a very Scottish homecoming as he’s set to close next year’s festival with his Sunday, 12 July 2020, night headline set. Speaking about his performance, Lewis Capaldi, said: “Yaaaaaas! I’ve been lucky enough to play TRNSMT every year since it’s inception and to be a headliner is absolutely wild. Things are about to get chubby and sexy, fast. See you up the road next year!”

The first wave of artists were announced by fans, who took part in a digital treasure hunt which revealed the first wave of acts. Joining the already stellar trio of headliners will be Foals, Snow Patrol, Keane, Sam Fender, Blossoms, Aitch, Little Simz, Twin Atlantic, Ian Brown, and Rita Ora – who will be taking to the TRSNMT stage for the first time.

The line-up announcement comes after festival bosses teased fans with a digital treasure hunt, on the streets of Scotland, were fans had to figure out who was playing at next year’s festival. Hopeful festival goers were given tips about venues and locations, with correct answers taking them to find interactive badges and artist names. Once they identified the artists the next step was to share their theories on social media to be in with a chance of winning free tickets, to next year’s festival.

Twin Atlantic is made up of Sam McTrusty, Barry McKenna, Ross McNae, and Craig Kneale. Their upcoming album, ‘Power’, is their fifth record and the band’s first since 2016’s ‘GLA’

Speaking about the single, ‘Novocaine’, Sam McTrusty, said: “I wanted to force myself to be more honest and open. The song tells the story of the most intimate connection I’ve ever felt with someone else – when I first met my wife.

“That feeling of obsession taking over every thought and reason was almost like an addiction at the time. It embarrasses us in some ways that we fell victim to such a cliched movie script love story, but equally amazes us that it ever happened.”

The album, arrives three years after 2016’s ‘GLA’, sees the band recording in their own purpose built studio. This come after the band split from Red Bull Records, after a decade working together.

“We found ourselves without a record deal for the first time and we had the freedom of no one telling us looking over our shoulder. Having this studio, it felt like we were a new band with an insane drive to make music,” says frontman Sam McTrusty, speaking to NME.

“We just wanted to go in and learn how the studio worked, because we’ve only ever used other people’s. It felt like an addiction, it felt so fun just putting these parts together. We’ve been upgrading it as it goes along.”

The release of ‘Novocaine’, the first track to be taken from their upcoming album, ‘Power’, comes after the band announced that they will be hitting the road, in March 2020. The band will hit the road on a 13-date tour of the UK, which they will kick off, in Motherwell, on the 3rd of March 2020.

Twin Atlantic will then head to Aberdeen, Dundee, Kilmarnock, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff, Oxford, Leicester, Bournemouth, and Brighton, before concluding, in London, on the 20th of March 2020.

Finding themselves without a record deal is not the only difference that came with Twin Atlantic’s upcoming fifth album, ‘Power’. After completing their fourth album, ‘GLA’, Twin Atlantic frontman Sam McTrusty found out that he experiences synesthesia.

This is a sensory phenomenon, which means that the singer sees sound as colour. Sam isn’t the only famous name to experience the phenomenon as it is also experienced by Lorde.

The festival will take place at the O2 Academy and the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester on  the 29^th and 30^th of April next year but it might feel more like Edinburgh than the East Midlands, with both headliners hailing from north of the border. Twin Atlantic released their fourth album, ‘GLA’, back in September and finished the first leg of their UK Tour in October with a second leg that will take in Dublin, Belfast and Glasgow still to come in December. Frightened Rabbit have had an equally busy 2016, releasing ‘Painting of a Panic Attack’ as their fifth studio album in April of this year. They are currently mid-way through a UK Tour which will finish in Newcstle on the 12^th December so if you can’t wait until next year to see the band, or just love them so much you want to see them twice, then the remaining dates of their tour are shown below. In September, the band’s drummer Grant Hutchison announced he would be taking a break from the band as a result of a ‘minor wobble’, according to The Southern Reporter. The band commented on twitter that they are ‘delighted to be headlining’ the festival.

However, it’s not just these two headline acts which will entice music fans to head down to Leicester for the festival. Glaswegian rockers Honeyblood will join the Scottish contingent to play a set with the line-up completed by Yorkshiremen Pulled Apart By Horses, JAWS, British Sea Power, Muncie Girls, Tigercub, Puppy and Idles. Mxdwn.co.uk reported last month on the return of Pulled Apart By Horses with their new track, ‘The Big What If’, which will be followed by an album and a UK Tour scheduled for next Spring (March and April). Meanwhile, Bristolian indie outfit Idles easily take the crown for the best reaction to the news from among the bands; they took to Twitter following the announcement and wrote, ‘We’ve been accepted into the loving arms of Leicester for @HandmadeTotally. The lineup is littered with shit hotters. Don’t care, be there X.’ Well it’s a ringing endorsement for the rest of the bill and, frankly, if their online persona is anything like their stage persona, Idles sound like a fantastic live act. The band’s debut album, ‘Brutalism’ will be released on 10^th March with their extensive UK Tour to begin on the 6^th. JAWS, meanwhile, released their sophomore album, ‘Simplicity’ last month and will play a trio of other UK dates in 2017.

Festival co-organiser John Help noted his excitement while also looking ahead to future line-up news from the festival, saying, via Dork, ‘It feels so good to finally get this announcement out into the world. Handmade has grown every year since we started it in 2013, but this feels like our biggest step to date as we move into the main room of O2 Academy Leicester, as well as the many other spaces around the Academy and Attenborough Arts Centre. We could not be more excited about the line-up, and this is just a flavour of what you can expect across the two days.’

“GLA is the code for our airport and the runway that has been our gateway to all the inspiring places we have travelled to around the world, and the same stretch of tarmac that has always brought us back home again.”

The album follows Great Divide which was released back in August 2014, and will see them journey around the UK in October on tour. The band haven’t toured the UK since May 2015 and took some time out last year to complete the album they never thought they’d write. After Great Divide, the band “Walked away from the band as if we were finished.” says Sam McTrusty in an interview for DIY.  “It was like Twin Atlantic didn’t exist anymore.” The band spent time with their families and were getting used to live a more stable life off the road when they decided to put down their regular instruments and play around more, writing as and when they felt like it.

The band have reached number one in the UK rock chart and Scottish chart with their album Great Divide. Before GLA went on sale, the band released three songs – No Sleep, Ex El and The Chaser. The video for ‘The Chaser’ was released on August 19.
