TRNSMT Festival 2021 was forced to close its King Tut’s stage because of large crowds which resulted in one member of the audience being stretchered away over the weekend.

Fans were told to stay away from the area on Glasgow Green during Becky Hill‘s headline performance on Saturday (September 11), while screens displayed a message saying that the stage was “full and closed”.

Crowds of people flocked to the popular stage, crammed together to see Becky Hill’s show. A picture from the Daily Record on the scene shows people standing above the crowd by the side of the stage, while others jostle for position.

The singer’s set was said to be delayed by 15 minutes due to crowds descending towards the stage. A TRSMT spokesperson told the Daily Record that medics arrived on the scene to attend to a person who needed help and they had to be stretched away though the injuries weren’t incredibly serious.

The spokesperson said “our first aid team was made aware of an audience member who needed assistance at the King Tut’s Tent. As a precautionary measure, they were transferred by stretcher to the onsite medical area and given time to recover.”

The Scottish festival was rescheduled from July due to concerns around the coronavirus pandemic and was headlined by Liam Gallagher, Courteeners, and The Chemical Brothers. The three-day event also featured performances from Sam Fender, AJ Tracey, Little Simz and Declan McKenna among others.

This year’s festival ran up to its full capacity (50,000 people) after the recent easing of COVID restrictions in Scotland. Although attendees at the festival still had to complete a Lateral Flow Test before arriving at the event despite proof of vaccination not being a condition of entry.

Organisers of the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow Green confirmed it will go ahead next month.
The festival that moved from its traditional July slot will take place on the weekend 10-12 of September and gather 50,000 music fans with no social distancing.
The news came after Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced last Tuesday that most COVID restrictions will end from 9th August.
Geoff Ellis, the festival organiser told BBC: “I’m delighted to confirm we’ve got the permission to go ahead with TRNSMT which is amazing, it’ll be so emotional. It’ll be two years since the last TRNSMT so people will be raring to go“.
The last TRNMST festival took place in 2019 and the 2020 event has been cancelled a month after lockdown has started.
Mr Ellis added, “We’re so excited, we can’t wait to welcome 50,000 people at Glasgow Green non-socially distanced and with a great line-up”.

YASSS. We WILL be back together this September

See you on the Green. #cinchxTRNSMT pic.twitter.com/kNZtqFjd4L

Full vaccination for the festival-goers won’t be needed, however lateral flow test and evidence of the negative result will be probably be required to enter. He commented: “I don’t think the Scottish government will insist on vaccination for clubs because I don’t think they believe in that”.

“But I think they want to encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated and I would say the same. I’ve even suggested to the Scottish government if they want to put a vaccination bus into TRNSMT we’d be happy to host that, it’s on the table. But I don’t think it’ll become a condition of entry in Scotland. It’s fraught with legal conditions”.

Original headliners Liam Gallaher and The Courteeners will take the stage as planned. The brit award winner Lewis Capaldi won’t be able to attend and has been replaced with The Chemical Brothers.

The opening of their statement reads: “With the possibility of some ongoing restrictions still being in place in July, we’ve taken the decision to move TRNSMT Festival to 10th-12th September for this year.”

TRNSMT Festival Director Geoff Ellis said:“We are delighted to announce our September dates for TRNSMT today. We had initially hoped for the festival to take place in July as planned, but a combination of the timetable to exit lockdown and the preparation time needed to put on an event of TRNSMT’s scale means this wasn’t possible.”

He added: “September gives us the opportunity to put on the best festival we can for our fans after such a long time without any live music, and we will, of course, work with all relevant authorities to ensure we follow any guidelines that may be in place in September.”

Due to the change in dates, some artists have been replaced speaking on this, Ellis said: “We’ve worked hard to secure a fantastic bill in September including festival heavyweights The Chemical Brothers in place of Lewis Capaldi, plus the addition of Primal Scream, Dermot Kennedy, Becky Hill and more. Although Lewis won’t be joining us this year, we’re pleased to confirm he will be back to play TRNSMT in July 2022.”

The UK Government’s ‘road map’ out of lockdown states that large-scale events, such as festivals, should be able to commence after 21st June 2021, and many festivals have confirmed they will go ahead with this date in mind. Including, Reading and Leeds Festival 2021 and Parklife Festival 2021. However, TRNSMT has announced that putting on the event will not be possible for them given the time table to exit lockdown. Under Scotland’s proposed route map out of lockdown, small-scale indoor and outdoor events will be allowed to resume in mid-May.

Earlier this week, fans took to social media to put pressure on TRNSMT festival organisers to remove Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown from the line-up. Brown sparked controversy last year after allegedly sharing coronavirus conspiracy theories and expressing a critical stance on Covid-19 vaccinations.
