Bullet For My Valentine and Trivium have cut short their “Poison Ascendancy” co-headline tour, with both bands issuing statements on social media. The metalcore megastars have been travelling through Europe and North America to commemorate the release of their 2005 albums, ‘Ascendancy’ and ‘The Poison’, performing both records in full.

The two bands were set to close out the North American leg of the tour, before moving on to play shows in Australia and South America, but BFMV confirmed they’d be cutting loose from the tour once the North American shows were finished. Now, both bands have played their final shows of the tour, calling it quits after their stop at the Red Hat Amphitheatre in Raleigh, North Carolina yesterday (Sunday May 18).

Upon announcing the early end to the tour, BFMV released a statement explaining their shift in focus away from the live shows: “the four of us collectively feel that the time is right for us to divert our full attention towards the next chapter of Bullet For My Valentine.

“We can’t wait to get back in the studio later this summer and finish what we promise you is our best album to date,” they wrote. “To go along with this, we are already starting to make plans for the 2026 and 2027 touring cycles, hitting every corner. We are super excited to drop new music for you all. We value our fans above all else and are forever grateful for your support. We’ll be back with all of you very soon.”

Upon the collapse of the tour, Trivium’s bassist, Paolo Gregoletto, took to social media to discuss its premature ending, placing the blame on BFMV frontman, Matt Tuck. “Matt Tuck didn’t want to do it, after we had planned it, after stuff was already in the works – don’t know why,” he said, in a livestream. “I think it would have been amazing. I think The Poison is a great album. I think the two records pair very well together. And I think it would have been nice to give everyone around the world a chance to see the two together.”

But more recently, Trivium frontman Matt Heafy shared his thoughts on the matter in a social media video, offering a more diplomatic take on the tour closing: “There was an initial plan, and the plan’s changed. You know us – we wanna be everywhere non-stop and go-go-go, and we’ll happily play anytime, any place. They’ve got other plans to go do a record, so I respect that. I respect the fact things change. I think we definitely need – all of us – let’s pull back on the negative stuff. Let’s go back to remembering what we all love and that’s loving bands and loving music.”

“Sometimes plans change. Sometimes that causes headaches and disagreements. It’s like anything in life – like a relationship, like with your family, like with your co-workers… like any of that stuff. So let’s pull back on all that stuff, let’s keep it classy, keep it friendly.”

While the news may have left speculation to some bad blood brewing between the metal groups, they may have ended their tour on a lighter note. Trivium have shared a video of both BFMV and their own band and crew members saving abandoned kittens from a diesel generator while in Atlanta on May 14 for their show at the Coca-Cola Roxy. You can see the video below.

The line up for Bloodstock 2025 has been finalised for next August.

The festival promises to be an electrifying celebration of heavy metal’s diverse sounds and community spirit. Held at Catton Hall, Derbyshire, the lineup is headlined by three titans of the genre: Trivium, Machine Head, and Gojira. Each will dominate the Ronnie James Dio stage on successive nights, with Gojira’s Sunday performance following their acclaimed appearance at the Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony.

Fans can expect a broad spectrum of metal excellence. The Ronnie James Dio stage features acts like black metal pioneers Emperor, gothic stalwarts Lacuna Coil, and melodic death metal legends The Black Dahlia Murder. Meanwhile, the Sophie Lancaster stage includes a mix of styles with Me and That Man, Static-X, and death metal icons Obituary as headliners.

Adding to the experience is a heartfelt tribute to Lemmy Kilmister, with a replica of the late Motörhead frontman’s tour dressing room and a bust containing his ashes at the bar — a poignant homage to a rock icon.

For those attending Bloodstock 2025, the festival’s big headliners will undoubtedly draw the masses, but the true fans of heavy metal know that the magic often lies in the lesser known. Below the marquee names, hidden treasures can be found, and it’s in these shadowy corners of the lineup that the discerning ear can find revelation.

Consider Emperor, who will perform under Trivium on Friday. This Norwegian black metal legend rarely graces stages, and their set is poised to deliver a spine-chilling blend of brutality and artistry. The tantalising possibility of a live collaboration with Trivium’s Matt Heafy—through his connection to Emperor’s Ihsahn—could make this one of the weekend’s most electrifying moments.

Saturday brings the theatrical flare of Creeper, whose punk-horror aesthetic is a rare sight on Bloodstock’s traditionally metal-heavy stages. Expect soaring melodies and dark narratives to infuse the Ronnie James Dio stage with a welcome dose of gothic drama.

On the Sophie Lancaster stage, the lineup becomes delightfully eclectic. Me and That Man, the dark Americana project of Behemoth’s Nergal, headlines Thursday night with a brooding set of bluesy laments that contrast sharply with his black-metal roots.

Then there’s Breed 77, whose flamenco-metal fusion on Saturday promises to be as hypnotic as it is heavy. Sunday closes with a rare appearance by the resurrected 3 Inches of Blood, a Canadian band whose galloping riffs and NWOBHM influences have reached near-mythical status.

Don’t overlook the rising force of All For Metal on Thursday. With their Norse-inspired theatrics and epic anthems, they could well become the surprise darlings of the festival.

From the mosh pits to the campsite camaraderie, this isn’t just a festival—it’s a pilgrimage for the heavy music faithful.

Tickets are already on sale, with early bird packages offering fans the best deal for this epic gathering.

American heavy metal band Trivium have unfortunately had to postpone their upcoming UK and European tour to early 2023. The tour, which was originally supposed to begin on November 11th in Glasgow, is now scheduled to kick off on the 12th of January 2023. At present, the band is still set to be joined by German extreme metal band Heaven Shall Burn and Malevolence.

We regret to inform you that our upcoming tour with @officialhsb has been postponed until 2023. We are deeply disappointed, but it’s become impossible to proceed as planned. pic.twitter.com/9pBkZrOuNl

According to Kerrang, singer and guitarist Matt Heafy has stated regarding the unfortunate news; “We are deeply disappointed that we have to postpone these dates as we were determined to be one of the first international acts to resume touring across Europe,” explains Paolo Gregoletto. “Unfortunately with the uncertainty of cross border travel and restrictions it’s become impossible for these dates to proceed as planned. We can assure you we were doing everything up until the last minute to figure out a way to do the shows and it wasn’t a decision we made lightly.”.

Regardless, Heafy was hopeful regarding the postponement, saying that the band will “promise to make it worth the wait” and that they have “two new albums’ worth of material we haven’t toured yet”.

Again according to Kerrang, Heafy had many warm sentiments to share regarding their to-be-touring partners Malevolence, stating that they are; “a band that will take over the heavy music world. Paolo introduced me to their music, and I have had it on repeat ever since. Malevolence have created a sound completely and uniquely their own; and it’s monumentally fantastic. Mark my words, they’re gonna take the metal, hardcore, metalcore, and punk worlds over by force. We are excited to have them on our tour.”

In other recent news, Trivium released their tenth studio album In The Court of the Dragon recently, on October 8th. The album has been well-received by both fans and critics, with many well-known music publications such as Metal Injection, Kerrang and Allmusic speaking of it favourably. Numerous metal subgenre labels have been attributed to the album, including thrash metal, progressive metal, heavy metal and metalcore. Hence the name, a lot of the lyrical themes on the album are concerned with fantasy literature and also ancient mythology, which is evidenced in songs such as “Like A Sword Over Damocles”.

In The Court of the Dragon is available on all streaming services, and physical copies of the album are available here.

Trivium hardly need an introduction with almost two decades of dictating the trends in the global contemporary metal scene and hailed as one of the most influential heavy music band in the new millennium. With their first three records certified gold in the UK, the band has a particularly solid local fan base and have scored six top 20 Album Chart entries across their last seven releases. Their latest What The Dead Man Say came out 24 April this year via Roadrunner Records and peaked at #12, with Kerrang! giving it 4/5 and praising the band for “being one of the greatest 21st century metal bands” and Louder adding they truly are “on the form of their lives right now“.

Equally influential, German metalcore/deathcore godfathers Heaven Shall Burn also find themselves at the peak of their music career after storming the Central European Charts with their ninth studio record Of Truth and Sacrifice released on 20 March 2020 via Century Media. Well known worldwide for openly criticising issues with racism, social opression and animal welfare, the band collaborated with the extreme non-profit marine conservation organisation Sea Shepherd in February for the single ‘My Heart And The Ocean‘ raising awareness of whaling and ocean pollution. Claiming a record top spot in Germany alongside #4 in Austria and #6 Switzerland, the quintet is ready to finally return to the UK after 7 years and deliver yet another “massive” memorable set.

Representing the UK on the monumental line-up are Milton Keynes djent/prog metal heavyweights Teserract. With four critically acclaimed studio albums, the quintet has quickly earned the reputation of one of the leading British bands in the genre, boasting an almost cult status amongst their loyal fanbase. Few years ago frontman Dan Tompkins started a solo project, releasing the debut album Castles in 2019 and recently announcing its heavier re-work Ruins for this Friday 11 December, featuring the exciting collaboration ‘The Gift‘ with Matt Heafy of Trivium.

Tesseract’s last album Sonder came out in April 2018 via Kscope but they have been fairly quiet since, with no hints on new material expected any time soon. The band is bringing the unique live cinematic experience ‘Portals‘ this Saturday 12 December, with tickets for the virtual show available here.
