The infamous English post-punk band Public Image Ltd have announced a new album, End Of World, and a UK tour. The album will be released on 11th August 2023, and the tour will follow in September. It will be their 11th studio album, and the first one in eight years.

The announcement is accompanied with the release of the first single from the album “Penge“. You can listen to the new single below, which lead singer John Lydon described as “something of a medieval Viking epic.”

The single was released yesterday, on April 11th, before the news of the tour and album was announced. The band posted videos of the band in the studio on Twitter in anticipation of the release, as shown below.

The big announcement comes after the news that John Lydon‘s wife of forty-four years, Nora Forster, died this week at the age of eighty. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2018. The band posted the news on Twitter, as seen below, also announcing that the upcoming album would be released in her honour.

In which time John had become her full time carer. pic.twitter.com/mEabNLmrHy — Public Image Ltd (@pilofficial) April 6, 2023

They also announced below their plans to continue with the release and tour, despite the awful news.

The final song on the album “Hawaii“, was released earlier this year, in honour of John’s wife. It is described on the band’s official website as “the most personal piece of songwriting and accompanying artwork that John Lydon has ever shared. The song is a love letter to John’s late wife Nora.”

The statement continued, calling it “A pensive, personal yet universal love song that has resonated with many since its release in January, the song sees John reflecting on their lifetime well spent and in particular one of their happiest moments together in Hawaii. John said, “Nora loved the album, she wouldn’t have wanted us to postpone it or change any of our plans.” Previously he has said of Hawaii, “It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most.”

The offical tracklist for the album End Of World is as follows:

1. “Penge”
2. “End Of The World”
3. “Car Chase”
4. “Being Stupid Again”
12. “North West Passage”
13. “Hawaii”

The band, also known as PiL, was formed by singer John Lydon, formerly of the Sex Pistols, in 1978. He formed the band with guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker, but has remained the only constant member since. The band’s music is of the post-punk genre, but has a distinct experimental sound often associated with John Lydon’s style of singing.

The band released their debut album First Issue in 1978, the first of 11 albums. There was a seventeen year hiatus between 1992 and 2009, before Lydon brought the band back together for two new albums and a world tour. In 2018, PiL celebrated their 40th anniversary with the release of a box set of career highlights, a documentary, which were both called The Public Image Is Rotten’, and a 32-date UK/Europe/Japan tour.

John Lydon, Lu Edmonds, Scott Firth and Bruce Smith continue as the official line up of PiL.

You can pre order the album here, due to be released on the 11th of August.

This week marked Harry Styles’ final show at New York’s Madison Square Garden; on Wednesday 21st September 2022, the 28-year-old singer took to the stage to play his fifteenth and last show at the iconic venue. Styles’ milestone series of performances were part of his career-defining Love On Tour; the concert series began its run on 20th August 2022, with all shows selling out. Throughout the singer’s residency at the venue, he was joined by fellow English artist Blood Orange aka Dev Hynes, formerly known as Lightspeed Champion. The lucky audience members at Styles’ final show were treated to a duet between Styles and Hynes; the duo shared the stage for a rendition of “Matilda“.

Equipped with a tagline which references the singer’s chart-topping album, Madison Square Garden is Harry’s House, the concert’s run has become historic due to its length. To mark Styles’ legendary residence at Madison Square Garden, the former One Direction band member was honoured with a banner marked with his name. The personalised banner was raised at the New York venue to commemorate his record and TV personality Gayle King presented Styles with the special reward.

Speaking on stage, King said, “We have a surprise for you, Harry! We’re all at Harry’s House right now. Fifteenth consecutive night, sold out show. “No artist has ever done that before. Twenty-thousand people, Harry, on their feet. We think you are walking joy, walking happiness … and we just want to say to you Harry, we don’t want to say goodnight to you, Harry Styles!“

Reacting to the unveiling of his banner and King’s comments, Styles could be seen tearing up and addressed the audience saying, “I just want to say from the bottom of my heart to each and every single one of you who came tonight… That’s insane, To all of you who bought a ticket, thank you so, so much for your support. Things like this don’t happen to people like me very often… and I just want to thank you all. You’ve changed my life each and every single one of you thank you so, so much. Any time when you come to Madison Square Garden and you see that, you remember it’s because of you. That is ours.“

With the unveling of his banner at Madison Square Gardens, Styles has joined a very small club; there are only two other artists who have received such an honour. The first to be bestowed their own banner was Billy Joel, the “Piano Man” singer has held a close relationship with New York’s most famous venue throughout his career. The American singer and pianist’s association with Madison Square Gardens is evident in his 129 shows; Joel was even given a second banner when he concluded his 83-show residency.

The second act to be given a banner was progressive funk rockers Phish; the American group’s banner was erected after they finished their run of shows. The 2017 concert series consisted of thirteen gigs and became famous for the set lists; those in attendance confirmed that the band did not repeat any songs across all thirteen gigs.

Canadian indie rock group The Dears have announced a string of UK shows, the band are set to make their long-awaited return to the UK this September. The Dears promise a setlist full of nostalgia and will perform classics taken from their decades-long career. The Montreal-based rockers’ setlist will also include tracks from their recent release Lovers Rock, the upcoming tour marks the live premiere of the album in the UK.

The group includes founding member and guitarist/vocalist Murray Lightburn and vocalist/pianist Natalia Yanchak, the husband and wife duo have remained at the helm since its formation in the 90s. After The Dears released their debut album in 2000, they quickly amassed a loyal following and received praise from critics and fans alike. Entitled End Of A Hollywood Bedtime Story, the album caught the attention of music fans and The Dears were placed at the forefront of a resurgence of popularity for Indie rock in Canada. The group’s recent release marked their eighth studio album, Lovers Rock was released in 2020 and was met with critical acclaim and rave reviews.

The band had initially planned to tour in support of Lovers Rock two years ago but due to COVID and the subsequent lockdowns, they were forced to postpone any live performances of its material. Speaking in a press release, Yanchak has given the following statement, “After all this time, the re-re-scheduling of tour dates and the re-re-re-anticipation of playing shows — it’s a little hard to believe these shows are finally going to happen. We originally released ‘Lovers Rock’ in 2020. It was an album we were, and are still, very proud of. So it was hard to put out a record and then not play a single one of those songs live. We did a streaming show, but it’s just not the same as being in the same sweaty club, all together.”

The album saw Lightburn and Yanchak work with long-time drummer Jeff Luciani, guitarist Steve Raegele and bassist Remi-Jean LeBlanc. Along with a full-string section, Lovers Rock features E Street Band’s Jake Clemons and Alex Francoeur on saxophone. Also included in the album is Sam Roberts, the fellow Montréal-based musician also known for his work within Canada’s indie rock scene.

Lightburn gives the following statement concerning the group, “The Dears aren’t fucking around, We don’t have time to waste. We’ve got a job to do. And we’re going to do it. 20 years ago, I knew I had a sound in my head, but I didn’t know how to get that down. Now I know how to get that sound. The question we’re asking in the music is, ‘how do we navigate so much bullshit in this world?’, We’re still playing this dumb rock music. But there’s always gonna be a little twist of the knife, cutting into something deep to make you feel like you’re alive. To say, ‘I know what you’re going through. And I’m hearing you, and I’m with you.’ That’s what the music is supposed to do.”

The Dears’ six-date UK tour kicks off on 30th September 2022 with a set at Cambridge’s Portland Arms, the band will then play Liverpool’s Zanzibar on 1st October 2022. After a set in Manchester on 4th October 2022, the group will perform in the capital at Highbury’s The Garage with support from Perfect Son. The tour concludes with a performance at Bristol’s Exchange on 6th October 2022, click here to purchase tickets.

Earlier this month, Pink Floyd icon Roger Waters brought his This Is Not A Drill tour to Toronto; after the performance he immediately took aim at local hometown heroes, The Weeknd and Drake. The Weeknd’s tour After Hours ‘Til Dawn was set to start on the same night, and it seems Waters took exception to the Canadian press deciding to cover The Weekend’s show and not his.

INCREDIBLE TWO NIGHTS IN TORONTO, THANK YOU! pic.twitter.com/qBoUNPywx6

— Roger Waters (@rogerwaters) July 10, 2022

“I have no idea what or who the Weekend is, because I don’t listen to much music,” he said. “People have told me he’s a big act. Well, good luck to him. I’ve got nothing against him. Would it not have been possible to review his show one night and my show another night?” He went on to say, “I’m not trying to make a personal attack. I’m just saying it seemed odd.” Not happy to leave it there, he turned his sights on the Weekend’s fellow countryman Drake, “By the way, with all due respect to the Weekend or Drake or any of them, I am far, far, far more important than any of them will ever be, however many billions of streams they’ve got,” Waters said. “There is stuff going on here that is fundamentally important to all of our lives.”

Waters initially announced the details for his This Is Not A Drill Tour in January 2020. due to COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdowns the tour was unfortunately postponed until this year. Waters said in a video announcement back in 2020, “As the clock ticks faster and faster and faster down to extinction, it seemed like a good thing to make a fuss about it, so that’s why I’m going on the road,” he said. “To be blunt, we need to change the way we organize ourselves as a human race or die. This tour will be part of a global movement by people who are concerned by others to affect the change that is necessary. That’s why we’re going on the road. That’s why this conversation should be on everybody’s lips, constantly, the whole time, because it’s super important. So I hope you’ll all come to the shows. This is not a drill.”

In a statement for the tour Waters elaborated more, “This Is Not A Drill is a ground-breaking new rock & roll/cinematic extravaganza, performed in the round. It is a stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to love, protect, and share our precious and precarious planet home. The show includes a dozen great songs from Pink Floyd’s Golden Era alongside several new ones — words and music, same writer, same heart, same soul, same man. Could be his last hurrah. Wow! My first farewell tour! Don’t miss it. Love, R.”

Walters feels that His This is Not a Drill tour carries an urgent message but The Weeknd’s After Hours ‘Til Dawn tour is a career-spanning extravaganza that Rolling Stone says is worth the wait.

The group is a collaboration between Converge members and long-term musical partners; the supergroup was birthed in 2016 at the Dutch event Roadburn Festival. The members played as a seven-piece and performed a set full of revised Converge songs. The band’s performance was met with a surge of positive feedback; inspired by the applause, they decided to expand upon the Bloodmoon partnership.

The upcoming 2022 tour is in support of the band’s forthcoming eighth studio album entitled Never Let Me Go, which is set to be released on the 25h March 2022 via Rise Records. The thirteen-track album marks the group’s first full release in over nine years, with the duo’s last album Loud Like Love having been released in 2013. The album sired great commercial success and reached number thirteen within the UK album charts, Loud Like Love was the last album to feature former drummer Steve Forrest.

A press release for the upcoming new album provides the following statement, stating Never Let Me Go, “grapples with humanity’s multiple crises, from “Beautiful James,” a stirring anthem for non-heteronormative relationships, to “Surrounded By Spies,” an observation on tech-saturation, “Try Better Next Time,” a track that is both a statement on climate calamity and a poetic hope for the future, and the final preview of the album: “Happy Birthday In The Sky,” a moving ode to those who are no longer with us.”

Frontman Molko discusses the influences and process taken to produce the group’s new album, “I wanted to capture the confusion of what it’s like to be alive today the feeling of being lost, always walking in a labyrinth, continuously being overwhelmed by information and opinions.”

Placebo first rose to fame in the 1990’s with their debut release, the self-titled album was released on 17th June 1996 and garnered great commercial and critical acclaim. The band’s alternative sound ensured the album’s success and in turn, Placebo became one of the era’s most defining groups, topics and themes heard within the group’s lyrics further cemented their importance within pop culture. The debut album’s most successful single, “Nancy Boy”, was the group’s breakthrough single and is now a crucial element within the era and genre’s musical cannon. The track’s lyrical content of drugs and sexuality were deemed trailblazing during the 1990s and paved the way for modern acts to sing openly about such topics.

The album sired critical success with many of music’s most respected institutions publishing rave reviews. Premier Guitar had this to say concerning the release, “A personal evolution, bringing all aspects of Gordon’s multidisciplinary creativity together under one roof. Her preferred minimalist aesthetic…is adeptly channeled into the sparsely layered songwriting on No Home Record.” Pitchfork stated the following, “Kim Gordon’s thrilling solo debut lives at the vanguard of sound and performance, shot through with the beautiful, unsparing noise that has always defined her art.”

Gordon has been described by The New York Times as “the art star queen of New York” and “one of the true influencers of American cool” by Billboard. The 68-year-old artist is best known as the bassist and co-founder of indie rock legends Sonic Youth; the group formed in 1981 and disbanded in 2011 with their final performance at SWU Music & Arts Festival in Brazil but has worked together post disbandment. The group’s distinct sound became era-defining and can be heard within their fifteen studio albums spanning three decades.

Gordon has become a juggernaut within all aspects of the arts and culture. Named as one of the music’s most iconic bassists, she also found success as an author with her 2015 New York Times Bestseller memoir Girl In A Band. The musician has also found success on screen, within the 2018 film Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot.

Britain’s pop-rock heartthrob Harry Styles has recently announced the (re-scheduled) next instalment of his ‘Love On Tour’ UK, European and South American tour dates.

Previously planned to go ahead in 2020, the Love On Tour shows had to be re-scheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much like all the other tours and live events that had to do the same as the live industry witnessed the most devastating effects they’ve had to tackle in recent history. The pandemic saw a huge impact on the live events industry with live music revenues decreasing by 90% and one in three jobs in the sector being lost.

However, we can always count on Harry Styles to spread the joy of our industry rising from the ashes once more. The 32 date tour will see Styles play shows from Glasgow to Mexico starting on the 11th of June and ending on the 10th of December. This tour will also see Styles playing the biggest venues he’s ever played, with the four UK dates on the Tour all being stadium shows consisting of Glasgow’s Ibrox Stadium, Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford, London’s Wembley Stadium and Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.

I’m so happy to announce that ‘Love On Tour 2022’ is finally coming to the UK, Europe and South America.

Public on sale begins on Friday, Jan 28. Check your venue website for further information about your show, and protocols.

I’m so excited to see you. Thank you, I love you. H pic.twitter.com/M9Wg9AXczA

The tour will be in support of his number one album Fine Line which will presumably include performances of ‘Watermelon Sugar‘, ‘Adore You‘, ‘Fine Line‘ and ‘Lights Up‘ all of which landed in the top 30 of the UK’s official charts over the past year. Harry Styles simply has a bug for dominating the charts and his discography shone light throughout the pandemic; upon hearing the news fans are beside themselves to be hearing these anthemic tracks in the company of thousands of other likeminded listeners with one twitter user writing: “Harry Styles sold out 20,000 tickets to his cancelled 2020 show at London’s O2 Arena. After endless rescheduling he’s finally set a new date for the same gig, at a new venue – Wembley Stadium. Capacity: 90,000 people. What a difference 2 years makes. Damn that man is good.”

News surrounding the tour continues to be filled with exciting news, especially surrounding the support acts who will be joining Styles on the tour. Fellow pop super star acts will be sharing the stage with Wolf Alice, Arlo Parks and Mitski all having been revealed as the opening artists for the anticipated shows.

Styles had a brilliant year in 2021 in terms of his career, winning his first BRIT award for Best British Single courtesy of the summer anthem ‘Watermelon Sugar‘ from his sophomore album, and winning his first Grammy for Best Pop Performance. Since his One Direction days, Harry Styles has truly grown into the preppy, all inclusive mega star we all know and love. His plans for the year ahead certainly seem to be in continual of these previous successes, solidifying himself as one of the most innovative British household names.

Tickets for his upcoming tour will be released on Friday the 28th of January.
