Genesis have been forced to postpone the last four shows of the UK leg of their final tour The Last Domino?, following positive COVID-19 tests within the band. The group have stated that they are “devastated” that the performances have to be put on hold, and have also said that they are “working to reschedule them as soon as possible”. The remaining performances of the UK run include a show at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and three shows at the O2 in London.

Genesis embarked on their final tour on September 20th, kicking it off with a show at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. The band is also set to embark on a run of North American shows in November, starting off at the United Center in Chicago, IL and ending on the 16th of December at the TD Garden in Boston, MA. The tour was titled The Last Domino? to suggest some ambiguity as to whether or not this would indeed be Genesis’ last hurrah, however, singer Phil Collins has since made it known that this tour will indeed mark the end of Genesis, telling MOJO; “This English and American tour, that will be enough for me.” Guitarist Mark Rutherford said in the same interview; “We’re a good age. I’ve been doing it for over 50 years… I’ve loved it. But at the same time, you can’t get too lost in work.”

Phil Collins explained to BBC Breakfast last month that his ongoing health issues had taken quite a toll on his ability to perform, and that his son Nic would be taking his place behind the drum kit for the upcoming tour. He said in regard to this; “I’m one of his many influences, being his dad. He plays like me and he kinda has the same attitude as me, so that was a good starter.” Collins has unfortunately been dealing with nerve damage since sustaining a spinal injury in 2007, and explained in this recent interview that he could “barely hold a stick”. Since the beginning of the tour, Collins has been performing sitting down.

Genesis has stated that they will be updating fans on the state of the postponed dates as soon as possible via their website and social media. Other than this, the band has also made it clear that all purchased tickets will remain valid, and that ticket holders will be contacted by their ticket providers once the dates have been rescheduled. You can read their full statement here.

With new music coming our way, he is slowly taking the crown of the UK alternative scene. Now, just weeks after making his mark on Reading Festival’s main stage west, the singer is gearing up for a return to the stage as he embarks on the Life on Mars tour.

Renforshort has been confirmed as the support. The tour began to sell out within hours of going live. Forcing them to extend it through September into October. After an appearance at TRNSMT Festival- which rages between September 10th- 12th, the tour will begin at Brighton’s Dome on the 27th of September. Coming to close in Liverpool on the 19th of October.

The tour will be one for the records books if it is anything like his recent stage shows. With a dynamic presence and sing-along chorus’, the shows will fly through. Making stops at some of the UK’s best venues, the tour will see a few locations twice due to popularity. With some shows being more intimate than previous tours, the atmosphere is sure to be electric.

As mysterious as the band Sleep Token began, what is not mysterious is their climb to popularity. Playing the likes of Download, Alt+Ldn, and Slam Dunk has given the band a large following orbiting around the band’s secretive nature. With people trying to figure out who exactly is the singer, and frontman, Vessel. Many thinking they may know who the masked vocalist is. Vessel still assures Metal Hammer: “Our identities are unimportant,”.

If 2019’s Sundowning is anything to go off, we are in for a treat with the new album This Place Will Become Your Tomb. Which is set for release on the 24th of September. With singles “Alkaline” and “The Love You Want’ showing off the range the band is possible of. The run-up to the sophomore album is one riddled with excitement. To mark the occasion, the band is doing a short run of the UK and Ireland shows, kicking off in Torquay. Showing off what the album has to offer in its live debut which ends in London. Where they will be joined by singer, songwriter, A.A.Williams.

On the road to their new album, Life Is Pain, with its bold aesthetic, the Death Blooms gears up for one of 2021’s most exciting realizes. With Fuck Everything standing strong in their catalog, they have a lot to prove as they progress down the ranks to being a part of the UK’s wide and exciting metal scene. As we approach just over a month until the fated day, October 22nd, we can expect to hear a lot more from the band.

Death Blooms, the chaotic voice of reason, realized “Shut Up” earlier this year. But now, they are back with an incredible reimagining of their instant classic. Working alongside them is the creative Wargasm. This was in order to give an “updated perspective”. They had this to say of their feature: “We just wanted to echo and add our weight to Paul’s sentiment. The planet is on fire, the air is filthy, everyone treats each other like shit and I think we would all kill for some silence…”. The new version of the song has been met with an over great response. Especially, after Wargasm’s first Reading and Leeds festival just last weekend.

The band will be joining Blood Youth on a tour in the UK this September. Visiting some of the best venues the UK has to offer, from Bournemouth to Brighton.

Canadian singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright just released her new lyric video for “Falaise de Malaise”. This is the second track that anticipates her new album “Love Will Be Reborn”, out on August 20th. The newly-released track sees Wainwright singing both in English and French for the first time. The folk singer firstly released the title track, “Love Will Be Reborn”, on the 18th of May along with another music video.

Martha explains in her press release how she challenged herself in trying something new for this new release: ““Falaise de Malaise” is a first for me! Not only is it in “Franglais” (a mix of English and French) but I’m actually playing the piano – which I don’t actually know how to do! I’ve been sitting at the piano for years trying to find a song for the simple piano part that my fingers could play. While doing this I thought, well might as well try writing in French too! I was able to tap into another version of myself – one that was dying to come out.”

She continues: “I’ve always sung in French (Piaf record and various covers..) but this is the first time I’ve allowed myself to compose in it. I’ve always watched others move to the music at the 88 keys but this time I sat down to play them myself. What came out was “Falaise de Malaise” – a dreamlike romp through a mythological landscape.”

“Love Will Be Reborn” was created during the forced worldwide pause created by the Coronavirus pandemic. It was recorded in the basement of her café Ursula, which served as a studio. She was helped by Toronto musicians Thom Gill, Phil Melanson, Morgan Moore and Josh Cole to perform in her band, and producer Pierre Marchand, best-known for his collaborations with Sarah McLachlan producing some of her iconic 90s songs.

Daltrey will not be completely solo, he will be joined by musicians from The Who’s touring band. The 77-year-old icon’s new tour entitled, ‘Live and Kicking Tour’ will start this August. The tour will treat fans to some classics from The Who as well as tracks from his solo repertory.

So far four dates have been added, starting in San Diego on 19 August 2021 and finishing the tour, at this moment, on 3rd September 2021 at Washington State Fair. A statement on The Who’s official website has given the below information concerning Daltrey’s solo tour.

“Roger Daltrey is delighted to announce that he and members of The Who touring band will be on the road late summer 2021, performing some Who hits, a few rarities and some solo hits. So far, four dates have been announced with several more to follow. Keep checking back on our tour dates page for more information and those all-important ticket purchase links.”

The Who themselves, were meant to be on tour during 2020 but unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic the tour was put on hold, the tour was in support of the band’s new LP ‘Who‘. The ‘My Generation’ icons’ new album was released on 6th December 2019 and was the group’s first album in thirteen years and the second release consisting of just the duo, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend. The album was a huge commercial success and reached number three within the UK album charts, with the album’s lead single ‘Ball and Chain’ being debuted at London’s Wembley Stadium on 6tth July 2019.

Although their tour was postponed, Daltrey and Townshend decided to make the most out of the lockdown and decided to promote their back catalogue by releasing re-issues of their past albums. A deluxe edition of the album, ‘The Who Sell Out’ originally released in 1967 was re-issued in April. The deluxe release boasted a track list of 112 songs including 46 never heard before tracks.

The duo has also joined the ranks of many other musical legends who are participating in Record Store Day this year, in honour of the event a double LP release of the 1981 album ‘Face Dances’ will be available in June, the release will also celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary.

Roger Daltrey ‘Live and Kicking 2021’ Tour dates

19/08/2021 – The Shell – San Diego, CA
21/08 – Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys – Stateline, NV
01/09 – Northern Quest Resort & Casino – Spokane, WA

Gary Barlow released his new album ‘Music Played By Humans’ on Friday 27th November. His latest album is his first in over 7 years without boyband ‘Take That’ and is a big-band album mixing big-band jazz, latin and pop and features nine celebrity guests and an 80 piece orchestra. Gary shows off his musicianship in his latest album as a pop star that not only writes his own songs and plays piano, but creatively composes the instrumentation for the album.

Oh wow – it’s album time again. All those hours, days, weeks, months. All that writing, singing, recording, performing and mixing. It’s finally OUT !!!!! It always feels scary.
Music News has commented on Gary approaching universal with the idea for his album saying, “I went to Universal, the record company, and I said, ‘Listen, I have got this idea but can I just record three songs? I don’t mean demos, I want to put the orchestra on, I want to mix it, I want to get right down the road with three songs’. And so I did: Big string sections, brass sections, the whole thing. I really wanted to know that it was right. Then I played it to them and they just said, ‘Listen, just go and finish the bloody thing. It’s fantastic.'”

David Joseph, boss at Universal Music UK has praised Barlow’s songwriting and the quality of his latest release to Music Week saying, “He’s got an extremely high quality threshold and he clearly knew what record he wanted to make. But it’s one thing knowing what record you want to make and how you want it to feel, the other thing is actually writing and recording a record that lives up to those expectations.”

The album which is made up of 14 songs and features artists such as Michael Bublé, Beverly Knight, Alesha Dixon and James Cordon amongst others. Luckily, The recording for the album the album was finished two weeks before lockdown after the pandemic hit. On explaining how the album came together, The Glasgow Times wrote, “And then it kind of took on another life then and I realised, actually, it’s not just an orchestral record, it’s a record celebrating musicians, that’s what it is.”

He continued to say “And their art, and the way they play together, and I don’t know if you’ve ever had the privilege of being stood near an orchestra, but to stand in the middle while they are playing my music, I mean it’s just thrilling on every level.”

As written in a previous article earlier this month in mxdwn UK, Barlow has already announced a UK Arena Tour for 2021.
This tour will support her upcoming fifth studio album Infinite Things, which is set to come out on November 13th. In a press release about the new album, it has been said; “Paloma wrote most of the songs for ‘Infinite Things’ before the Covid-19 pandemic swept the world. Then we went into lockdown, and she ripped them all up and started afresh. She spent her downtime creating, learning to engineer her own music and just thinking about the world.”

This continued, “The enforced downtime was creatively fruitful and taught her that she had been on a sort of conveyor belt of music and promo. The lockdown gave her the space to take stock of her frenetic career, and decide what is meaningful to her. She is emerging from lockdown with a new sense of her priorities which has seen her reconnect with her roots steeped in creativity.”
