The video, directed by Martina Mc Glynn and filmed in black and white, showcases Tolü’s dance moves along with her acting skills as she takes on the role of reassuring people she sees who don’t understand their worth. Her sister features in the video too. Tolü took to Instagram to thank her sister saying; “A massive thank you to my sister and Gabriel for their time in acting out this scene. You did a fantastic job! Moral of the story: Know your worth.”

Speaking to Wonderland Magazine about the video, Martina Mc Glynn said; “One of the great joys of any production is the energy that comes from collaborating. Tolu is one of the most exciting voices breaking through in the Irish music scene so to have this opportunity to work with her was very special. I’m drawn to her voice and lyrics and I really wanted to capture her striking presence on the streets of the town where she grew up. In many ways, the video is  a snapshot of the beginning, starting in a small town with big dreams of finding the confidence to achieve anything you want.”

Tolü has also just announced she will be doing a few gigs around Ireland this summer. Tolü will be kicking off the mini-tour with an already sold-out show in The Grand Social in Dublin on the 28th of May, where she will do three dates there in total before heading to Róisín Dubh in Galway on the 12th of June and finishing off on the 13th of June in Cyrpus Avenue, in Cork. This news comes after the news that Tolü has become the highest-charting female solo artist ever on last week’s Official Irish Homegrown Chart. Her cover of The Sawdoctor’s hit N17 became the most downloaded song of the week and entered the Homegrown Chart at number 2. The song, in collaboration with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, made its debut as part of RTÉ One’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Ireland in Music will be broadcasted on RTÉ tonight and will then tour festivals in 2021, to broadcast Irish talent to the world. Sharing the trailer on Instagram, the Ireland in Music account said; “The world premiere of a new platform for Irish music. Our aim is to promote Irish music globally with high quality projects.”

The film was formed in May of this year with the creators of TradFest with the aim of showcasing Irish musicians to people abroad. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, artists couldn’t tour and felt they lost that connection to their fans. Tradfest decided to create this piece to bring people together and show the stunning landmarks Ireland has to offer.

The film was recorded throughout September and October with varying degrees of lockdown and social distancing rules. Producer and director, Donal Scannell spoke about the special saying that “in many ways Ireland In Music is a celebration of what’s possible even during the darkest days.” He also added; “This musical mixtape is a snapshot of Ireland as filtered through the ears, mouths, hearts and souls of the enlightened.”

Donal Scannell also said in a piece he wrote for RTÉ about his obsession with Irish music and television said; “Netflix, although still only a small percentage of the total TV market, has helped us all realise that TV has been globalised. This is a great opportunity for Irish programme makers to make shows not only for Ireland, but for the world.”

Ireland in Music will be broadcasted on RTÉ tonight, the 29th of December, at 8pm. It will also be available on the RTÉ player in the UK.

The EP is made up of seven songs that fully represent the Afro-Irish singers’ deepest thoughts. The EP shows the importance of self-love, self-assurance and self-confidence. She speaks a lot about her own experiences and allows that to form the backdrop of her musical journey.

Speaking about the EP in a press release Tolü said; “‘Being’ means ‘essence’, one’s entity. I chose it as the title of the project because it captures my journey to self-discovery. This journey to knowing who you are was vital in order to grow and attain a greater sense of self. My love for psychology and advocacy for mental health is what truly influences why I question the mind, myself and ways to live. This translates into how I write about my experiences.”

Tolü adds: “My hope with this project is that it helps anyone who is lacking self-love or going through a transition to better themselves and need the encouragement from within. Because it’s a long but rewarding journey.”

Tolü rose to fame with her 2018 single Goodbye, which now has over 800k streams on Spotify alone. With every release, she continues to gain more support, with Don’t Let Go reaching #1 on Ireland’s RTE Radio 1’s airplay charts and You Are Enough spotlighted by BBC’s Across The Line as “The Best Song In The World.”

Tolü is also a part of the 39-piece Irish group, Irish Women in Harmony. The group joined together this summer to release a cover of The Cranberries’ hit Dreams to raise money for SAFE Ireland. They raised €250,000 for the charity and remained in the Irish charts for over two months.
