Vessel, the singer, and the front entity have provided little in the way of identity but have given us nothing but a remarkable original take on modern music. Paired with their undeniable spark for live performances shown at Download Pilot and, most recently, the Heavy Music Awards. With 2019’s Sundowning still regarded as one of metalcore’s most diverse albums, Sleep Token has set the bar for themselves as they approach the higher ground.

ST premiered the sophomore album This Place Will Be Your Tomb last Friday, the 24th. It hosts 12 brilliantly mixed tracks each with its own personality. Sleep Token has been praised for its divisive use of genre moulding and thus is no exception. Singles, “alkaline”, “The Love You Want”, and “Fall For Me” stand strong as some of the album’s most distinctive songs. With stadium-worthy gestures in songs like “Telomeres”, to more subtle tones like on “Missing Limbs”. This Place Will Become Your Tomb has a vast landscape where anyone can find something for them to enjoy.

They are set to tour the UK in November alongside A.A.Williams. Where they will do be playing some of their biggest headlining shows to date. Setting Sleep Token up for their heavily anticipated appearance at Download 2022 which will see them play on the stage as The Ghost Inside, Gender Roles, and Press Club- to name a few. Little is known of the identities of Sleep Token, however, the group has been making waves since their emergence in 2016, truly coming into their own in 2019 when they released their first full-length album Sundowning. Their debut is a record defined by stark musical duality; lush ambient soundscapes and haunting Deftones-Esque choruses join hands with biting, low-tuned guitar riffs that would not be out of place on a Meshuggah album. Many genre labels have been used to describe Sleep Token, including post-metal, ambient, alternative rock, and progressive metal. Their sound is very much their own however, one might place them in a similar category to the Liverpool band Loathe.

Sleep Token has been slowly but steadily releasing singles from their new album since June of this year, the first being ‘Alkaline’, followed by ‘The Love You Want’ in early August, and most recently, ‘Fall For Me’, released on September 17th. Whilst “Alkaline” and “The Love You Want” provide the snarling guitar and rich, distorted walls of sound that fans are used to, “Fall For Me” enters new territory; a piece of music that is almost entirely vocal effect-laden acapella, which some fans have likened to Imogen Heap’s ‘Hide and Seek’.


The group has released music videos to accompany these singles, which can be viewed on their YouTube channel.

Sleep Token’s new album This Place Will Become Your Tomb is set to be released on September 24th. The album can be pre-saved here for digital streaming services. In addition, the group has merchandise and physical copies available for pre-order, including several different vinyl variants. These can be found on their website.

Playing the likes of Download, Alt+Ldn, and Slam Dunk has given the band a large following orbiting around the band’s secretive nature. With people trying to figure out who exactly is the singer, and frontman, Vessel. Many thinking they may know who the masked vocalist is. Vessel still assures Metal Hammer: “Our identities are unimportant,”.

If 2019’s Sundowning is anything to go off, we are in for a treat with the new album This Place Will Become Your Tomb. Which is set for release on the 24th of September. With singles “Alkaline” and “The Love You Want’ showing off the range the band is possible of. The run-up to the sophomore album is one riddled with excitement. To mark the occasion, the band is doing a short run of the UK and Ireland shows, kicking off in Torquay. Showing off what the album has to offer in its live debut which ends in London.
