It sounds like Chinouriri was happy with the result as well, saying that the song “came about quite spontaneously, which is sometimes how the best things come about. I really loved it when I first heard it and when I met the boys the lyrics and melody came to us so naturally.”

Of course, Chinouriri hasn’t been shy about her own material lately, planning her third EP to follow up 2021’s Four° In Winter. You can also hear her latest single “All I Ever Asked“ down below.

“End of the Road” comes about as The Snuts continue to work on their next LP, following their 2021 debut W.L.. However, the record’s a bit of a tall order to follow up with, considering it was the first debut from a Scottish band to debut at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart for over a decade; but hopefully they’ve got some tricks up their sleeve for when the next one comes out.

Following the show, the Scottish band explained the reason for the pause in the show with a statement on their social media: “Apologies to everyone for stopping tonight’s show, We are absolutely furious to learn about the behaviour of male fans at our show in Oxford.”

“This is a male problem and it is only the responsibility of males to stamp it out. No one should ever feel unsafe at our gigs and it’s your responsibility to report and call out your friends if they are acting like fucking animals.”

They then added: “We are not your fucking lad band and you don’t get [to] act like that at our shows.”

No video footage has emerged online of said incidents, but people have posted tweets complaining about the behavior of some of the male fans. One attendee wrote in a tweet after the show “The crowd and the Snuts deserved better than a load of Oxford students trying to grope girls at their show. Fucking joke. We’ve waited months to have this ruined by some posh boys that want shoeing.”

The band will be continuing their UK tour tonight (November 8) in Norwich at the Waterfront and runs until the end of the month, where they play a final gig at the Ritz in Manchester. The band as I’m sure most fans are will be hoping for no further repeat of the events in Oxford.

Building their fan base through opening bigger acts and airplay support, the musical group finished the week with 20,455 sales, of which 1,392 from streams, according to the Official Charts Company. On the other hand, Demi Lovato’s body of work was slightly behind, with 20,183 sales (including 2,849 from streams), meaning only 272 sales away from the Snuts. Following the success, the band commented: ‘This one is for all the fans who have proved that it’s possible to get a band like us to Number 1. Every copy you bought of this record goes a long way. It’s old school and it’s beautiful. Thanks very much – we love you.’

The Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) said: ‘A huge congratulations to The Snuts for landing a UK No.1 album with WL. As the first Scottish band to do so with their debut record since The View’s Hats Off to the Buskers in 2007, this is an incredible achievement; not least at a time of significant challenges industry wide. Their success follows on from Mogwai claiming the No.1 spot just a few weeks back with As The Love Continues, highlighting the strength, passion and determination from Scotland’s artists and music industry, and signifying an exciting and impactful period of engagement and connection with Scottish music.’

The Struts have already announced their 22 dates in the UK in September 2021, to support ‘WL’.

Writing about the release of ‘W.L.’ on Instagram, The Snuts frontman said: “Making this record has been the most exciting, heartbreaking, joyful and painful experience of my life. I love this too much and I tried so hard to never let that get in the way of making the best record we possibly could. Growing up I was pretty much terrified of everything. Walking out on stage still terrifies me each and every time. Everything changed for me when you started singing these songs back to me. I could do anything. Risks started to excite me. I could be brave and honest with my songs and could now deliver the middle peg to anyone whoever doubted me.Our album is out this week I really hope you love it- Jack.”

The Scottish band’s debut album, ‘W.L.’ (Whitburn Loopy), features 17 tracks. The first song on the album ‘Top Deck’ was written by the band’s lead singer, Jack Cochrane, when he was just 13. It is a nod to their teenage years and how they dreamt of a career in music. The album documents their journey into the music industry, track by track.

Speaking with Far Out Magazine about the title of their debut album, lead singer Cochrane said: “It’s actually after ‘Whitburn Loopy’. We’re from a town called Whitburn, and every town in Scotland has what we call young teams, but it’s basically gangs. It’s a nod to how we started out on the streets and in the forest, playing the guitar, drinking cider and stuff like that. I feel like because the record is such a progression, it’s nice to name it something that meant a lot to us back then.”

Ahead of its release, The Snuts live-streamed a performance of their debut album ‘W.L’ at Stirling Castle. Speaking about the show, frontman Cochrane said: “In an effort to play our debut record back to back for our fans we decided to rent out a castle. And with a glimmer of hope on the horizon where live music is concerned, we wanted to make sure this was our grandest, most ambitious live stream show to date.”

The four-man band formed when they were just 15, having been friends at school. Releasing their debut single back in 2016, ‘Glasgow,’ they have since performed at several major UK festivals, including on the main stage at TRNSMT festival, and in 2019 the band made their US debut at the South by South West Festival in Texas. Speaking with Glasgow Times last year, they revealed their main influences are legend indie-rock bands such as the Libertines and Arctic Monkeys.

Earlier this year, The Snuts announced they will be heading out on their UK tour from September 2021, across 22 dates. Several dates have since sold out.

In a statement posted on the band’s twitter, they wrote, “To ensure the best possible fan experience for you- us at Parlophone Records, in agreement with The Snuts, have decided to delay the release of The Snuts bed album ‘W.L.’ by two weeks. This (the delay of the release of the album) is to combat potential freight delays caused by Brexit and Covid-19, and guarantee all fans will receive their pre-ordered records on the official release date,”

Speaking of the album, Jack Cochrane, the band’s lead singer in an interview said, “Our debut album ‘W.L.’ is our lifetime work. It’s a collection of milestones and melodies that time stamp a dream we had becoming a reality. It’s a record about being true, loving and resilient.”

The announcement of the delay comes not long after the band’s music video for ‘Somebody Loves You’, for which they worked with the Scottish Refugee Council- an organisation dedicated to supporting refugees in need of protection. The music video demonstrated the stories of the refugees who were helped by the charity. Of ‘Somebody Loves You’, the band said, “The song for us is a universal message of love and compassion and the work of this charity and others like it is something I am particularly inspired by. Three simple words: ‘Somebody Loves You’, spray painted all across my city. It is a simple but powerful reminder”. You can watch the video down below:

“When our record label asked what we’d do if they gave us the full video budget, immediately we decided to use our platform to help bring attention to the Scottish Refugee Council here in Glasgow,” Cochrane said of the track.

“The song for us is a universal message of love and compassion and the work of this charity and others like it is something I am particularly inspired by. It is exactly this sense of an expanding and welcoming community spirit we hope to portray with this video.”

He added of the track: “Three simple words: ‘Somebody Loves You’, spray painted all across my city. It is a simple but powerful reminder.

“As the days disappeared into months, I noticed myself and everyone around me scrambling to stay in touch, to check up on each other. There was something really special about this to me. I don’t think anyone really saw that coming. It shouldn’t take a global pandemic to remind us how important the people we care about are, but I’m kind of glad it did.”

This particular indie group, which formed in 2015, have been on the path to mainstream attention for some time, releasing a handful of singles in 2020; included were ‘Elephants’, ‘That’s All It Is’ and ‘Always’. Their debut album, titled ‘W.L’, is scheduled for release March 19th 2021. The new video was directed by award-winning narrative filmmaker Aella Jordan-Edge, whose films employ “metaphors and symbolism to explore emotions and the world around her” and have been seen everywhere from London to New York. The track was also announced on the band’s official Twitter account, @TheSnuts, in a June 11th tweet which is currently pinned to the top of their page.

Throughout August, the band can be seen performing in a number of Live from the Drive-In gigs, which the organisation’s official website has promised will be offering, “some of the biggest names in UK music … live on stage backed by a full concert production that you can enjoy all from your very own viewing zone. With movies and family events also to be added to the schedule, this will be a live experience like no other.”
