The Smashing Pumpkins will be back on the road in the UK this summer for their Aghori tour. Tickets will be available to purchase from Friday February 10 at 10AM via Ticketmaster. It will mark the band’s first UK show since the surprise release of their album ‘Aghori Mhori Mei’ back in August.

The alt-rock band will be in the UK this summer for a set of four shows, including a special open-air gig in West London’s Gunnersbury Park. The tour will see them stop in Halifax, Scarborough, and Colchester to celebrate their latest album.

Billy and co. will be joined by famous London-based band White Lies as their support across all dates. They will also be joined by another British-rock band as their special guest, Skunk Anansie, in London and Colchester, the latter having recently made a triumphant return to the industry with new single ‘An Artist Is An Artist’.

The 90s band hasn’t performed in London since 2024 where lead singer, Billy Corgan brought his children to the stage at their sold-out O2 Arena show where he played some of the band’s new tracks.

As well as tracks from ‘Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts’, fans got to hear classics such as ‘Zero’, ‘Today’, ‘Tonight, Tonight’, ‘1979’ and ‘Bullet with the Butterfly Wings’.

During an interview with Kerrang!, the ‘Mayonnaise’ singer admitted he refuses to give in to the pressure of having to play some of the band’s old hits, he said: “I don’t play any songs I don’t want to play. I don’t care if they’re a classic or not. If I don’t want to play it, I just don’t play it. I don’t put that on the audience like, ‘Well, I’ve got to play this one for you.’ I think that’s kind of cheese.”

Moreover, as part of Record Store Day, The Smashing Pumpkins announced the re-release of their 1993 album ‘Siamese Dream’ in limited edition on vinyl, also in the original 1993 packaging and with signed versions, only available at Madame Zuzu’s.

GRAMMY® award winning, alternative rock legends, The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer, have announced that they will be touring the UK and Ireland in the summer of 2024. The short stint of shows will kick off at Utilita Arena in Birmingham next June and will continue to spread contrasting sounds of hypnotic guitar riffs and raw vocals across the country.

Weezer announced the tour on X, stating, “Today is the greatest day we’ve ever known. UK and Ireland we’re coming back around to co-headline a handful of shows next summer with @SmashingPumpkin“.

The Smashing Pumpkins, who have just come off their US tour, announced soon after, “SP is excited to announce we will be touring UK & Ireland next year with Weezer.”

With multiple, multi-platinum records and careers spanning about 30 years, these US bands are sure to thrill UK and Irish fans. Just last year, US fans experienced this powerful rock concoction at BeachLife Festival in California where both bands headlined.

For Weezer, they are returning to the UK after their highly anticipated, Hella Mega, sold-out stadium tour with Green Day and Fallout Boy which was initially delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. 2022 saw Weezer release an innovative quartet of EP’s titled SZNZ – each album changing its sound to correspond to the feeling and emotions of the four seasons.

Since their debut studio album release in 1994 with Weezer (often referred to as the ‘Blue Album‘), this Los Angeles group have amassed billions of streams, over 10 million album sales in the US and over 35 million record sales internationally.

Chicago rock icons, The Smashing Pumpkins, have had their fair share of success since forming in 1988. Their unique and pioneering sound, which blended various music genres previously unexplored by the world, paved the way for them to achieve enduring iconic status. Their name quickly became synonymous with 90’s alternative rock.

In November 2022, The Smashing Pumpkins began to release a trilogy of rock opera albums titled, ATUM. Past albums they have released have been critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Siamese Dream (1993), which just celebrated its 30th year anniversary, has since gone quadruple-platinum and was placed no.18 in Pitchfork’s ‘Top 100 Albums of the 90’s’.

American alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins have unveiled their latest single “Solara”, the first track in 18 years to feature original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlain on guitar and drums respectively.

The band have seen many line-up changes over the years, with Chamberlain in particular leaving the group on three separate occasions, and then agreeing to stay on as a touring member only before beginning to contribute to the recording process again.

James Iha left the band in 2000 during the band’s first official split, and has spent the last 18 years working as a producer, label owner and studio runner, as well as contributing to groups such as A Perfect Circle and Tinted Windows.

Alongside the new track, Smashing Pumpkins’ fans have been treated to a UK tour date, as part of the group’s ‘Shiny and Oh So Bright’ tour. The tour so far only has one UK date at London’s SSE arena, and focusses on America and Canada aside from one date in Italy.

Tickets for the London date on the 16th of October go on sale at 9AM June 22nd, and can be purchased here.

Now, Corgan has taken to Instagram once again, with a lengthy and emotional post, featuring an image of himself when he was a lot younger; the picture shows him with a full head of hair, so is likely to be from around the time of the release of the band’s seminal Siamese Dream. You can check out the full post below, but what’s notable is the photo’s caption, which reads:

Besides having a generally good idea of when it was taken (1993 or 1994) I don’t remember actually taking the photo, nor do I remember countless others like it between the years 1991-2004. Now, perhaps that says something about my inability or desire to remember, but I’d argue it’s an unfortunate result of the blur of those years. Which leads me to this time, or this moment, where like so many, I share a window (curated as it is) into my crazy life. As an example, we are currently in the studio with Rick Rubin. But unless I show you a picture of Rick sitting Buddha-like at a mixing desk, you probably wouldn’t know that. Or when I, in a very naive way, post a shot with a needle in my arm and ramble on about making peace with God and time left on dear ‘ol Earth, it sent some signal to friends and associates alike that I was sick or wanted other’s sympathy. (As fact, it was an IV full of vitamins and homeopathy to assist in getting over this vicious flu). So yes, was sick, and no, not serious in any way nor would I share such info here because this window I’d prefer to be one where you see the sunlight streaming through. The only addendum to that is when I saw how others were reacting to their perception of my misguided and poorly worded message, I chose not to react in kind; in essence I let the shadows cast be whatever you-they-them want to believe. Because we live now in a world where perception often outweighs reality, and that’s fine. So to that, here’s a new pic I just took of me with my sandy-brown, curly hair flowing in the studio breeze. Lots of love, WPC #wpc

Notable by her absence was original bassist D’Arcy Wretzky, who has revealed that she won’t partaking in this prospective reunion, apologising to fans when speaking to BlastEcho, saying “My apologies to all of the Smashing Pumpkins fans out there who are excited about this oncoming reunion tour of the original members of the band.

“I know this is a huge disappointment for me, as well, but it’s not going to happen [with me].” Wretzky added that she had “only just found [out] yesterday that the band has decided to go with a different bass player.”

Stereogum reports today that Smashing Pumpkins head honcho Billy Corgan has given fans news on the likelihood of a potential reunion of the band’s classic line-up. In the video below, Corgan speaks to Chicago’s 97.9 The Loop, Corgan confirms that “things look good” in terms of playing with fellow guitarist James Iha again. At a gig last year, Iha joined the Smashing Pumpkins onstage for the first time in 16 years.

Corgan was also optimistic that the rest of his former bandmates would be interested in the reunion, saying “There’s a willingness for us to play, but also the world’s changed a lot since we didn’t play […] So the reunion thing is always a bit weird because people come in with their expectations […] So my whole thing is if we’re gonna do it, I think we do it to make people happy and not go against the tide of what people would want to hear in that type of stuff, but my interest in it is sort of limited. I’m not gonna do it for like 14 years of my life.”

The plans for a reunion seem to have been in Corgan’s mind for quite some time, as was seen in a Facebook vlog last summer, where Corgan told fans “There’s some big stuff happening. We’re making plans. I can’t give that away, but it’s going to be interesting.” Consequence of Sound also reports that an industry source suggested that Corgan is trying to book the reunited Pumpkins for shows and festival dates for summer 2017.

If a tour was to materialise, it would mark the first time the classic line-up has played together since the year 2000. In the years since the break-up, the often fiery Corgan has managed to be insult, and “make peace” with many of his former bandmates.
