Each artist will donate a track to the project which will pressed just 100 times each, creating 700 unique 7” records. Additionally, artists, designers and illustrators from around the globe will be called to design special sleeves for each track, making every record and one-of-a-kind collectible. The 700 unique sleeve designs will be on display at London’s 180 Studios from August 18-30, 2026 and available to purchase via online auction running until September 2, 2026.

Buyers may make guesses based on the sleeve artwork as to which vinyl they will receive, but the track remains a mystery until it is purchased.

All of the proceeds from the auction will go towards War Child’s work delivering mental health support, emergency aid and protection to children and families in areas of conflict across 13 countries. Previously, the Secret 7” Auction has raised more than £900,000 for War Child’s efforts.

John Lennon will be donating his track ‘Out of the Blue’ from the 1973 ‘Mind Games’ album. While The Last Dinner Party will contribute their single, ‘Let’s Do It Again!’ which was featured on the recently released ‘Help (2)’ compilation album from War Child. Gabrielle has given her 2001 hit, ‘Out of Reach.’ And fans of The Maccabees will be excited to hear their 2009 track, ‘No Kind Words’ will be apart of the auction. It will be the song’s first standalone physical release. In a post announcing their contribution, the band encouraged fans to submit artwork for the auction saying their “work will be a missing part of [their] catalogue.”

World-famous musicians have banded together in support of War Child to create charity album ‘Help(2)’. A predecessor of the 1995 compilation ‘Help!’ which featured big British music icons of the 90’s, the second volume of the compilation has been created to raise money for the charity’s ongoing impactful work.

War Child is an international non-government organisation founded in 1993, working with families, corporations and worldwide governments to ensure protection, education and support for children who are impacted by war and distressing conditions caused by political conflict. War Child UK worked with the music, media and entertainment industries through the 90’s to raise awareness and money for the charity in its beginnings. David Bowie, Elton John and many more artists backed the organisation during its start-up, with some of the most popular names in the British music scene joining forces to produce an album to raise money for the charity.

Over twenty UK hit artists came together to produce ‘Help!’ in 1995. Including songs from Blur and Oasis – whose “Battle of Britpop” rivalry was a huge pop culture news story at the time – their allegiance in recording the album gained plenty of attention much to the charity’s benefit. They featured in the album alongside The Boo Radleys, The Stone Roses, Orbital, Radiohead, Portishead, Massive Attack, Suede and more.

“It’s the only time you’ll see us agreeing on anything,” said Oasis’ Noel Gallagher in regards to working with Blur for ‘Help!‘. “We put aside our differences for the cause.”

‘Help(2)’ is comprised of 23 songs produced by a genre-diverse lineup of global music icons, from indie rock legends Arctic Monkeys to alternative pop-princess Olivia Rodrigo and many more big names. The contributing musicians began recording over a week in November 2025 at Abbey Road studios, birthplace of The Beatles’ ‘Come Together‘ and Pink Floyd’s ‘The Great Gig In The Sky‘ – along with many other globally acclaimed records. A few singles were released to promote the second charity volume, including Arctic Monkeys’ ‘Opening Night’ which gained 15 million streams on Spotify. The full album has been released today and is available on streaming services and to purchase at www.warchild.org.

The 1995 album was a hit, raising £1.25 million for War Child. Although there is concern for streaming platforms having overtaken album purchases significantly, Rich Clarke from War Child UK has ensured that rights and royalties will be donated to the charity. The album would need to reach 400 million streams to reach that figure. Merchandise has also been created to help raise money, including a Vinyl, T-shirts and a CD that includes an exclusive bonus Oasis live recording.

Help(2) Double LP and Exclusive 7″ Vinyl of ‘Acquiesce (Live From Wembley)’ By Oasis. Available to buy at https://store.warchild.org.uk/

Producer James Ford has curated an album that’s good for the cause as it for the ears, described as an “intriguing mix of strikingly fresh covers and affecting originals” by album critic Matthew Davies Lombardi (DIY Magazine). The array of musicians and their diverse sounds uniting in aid of War Child gives something for everyone to enjoy, from the music itself to the consequential support given by enjoying it.

“30 years ago, today and, no doubt, 30 years from now, the message remains clear and universal – no child should ever be part of war. Ever.” – DIY Magazine.

London art-rock band The Last Dinner Party have announced details of their second album, ‘From The Pyre’, due for release on 17 October 2025 via Island Records. Alongside the announcement came the lead single, ‘This Is The Killer Speaking‘ — a bold, cinematic track that hints at a more theatrical and shadowed direction for the group.

It marks a quick return for a band still riding high from their Mercury-nominated debut, ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ which reached Number One in early 2024. Their baroque-rock aesthetic, literary lyrics and ornate live shows drew immediate attention, and with ‘From The Pyre’, they seem intent on building on that success rather than repeating it.

The album was produced by Markus Dravs, known for his work with Florence + The Machine and Wolf Alice, and was recorded between London and southern France earlier this year. The band describe ‘From The Pyre’ as “a collection of stories,” a kind of mythic cycle that explores love, obsession, rebirth and decay. “The Pyre,” they said in a recent post, “is both destruction and creation — the idea that something has to burn before something else can begin.”

Lead single ‘This Is The Killer Speaking‘ sets that tone perfectly. Its music video, released alongside the announcement, is full of surreal Western imagery — duels, candlelight and symbolic violence. It’s not a straightforward single, but rather a statement of intent: all atmosphere and tension, more stage play than pop song.

A second single, ‘The Scythe’, released earlier this summer, hinted at the same darker shift. Written when vocalist Abigail Morris was still a teenager, it’s been re-imagined here as a weighty, cinematic lament. Together, the two tracks sketch out a record that feels both more personal and more ambitious, something steeped in storytelling but still raw at its core.

The band have also announced a full UK and European tour in support of the release, with dates already selling quickly through their official site. Known for turning gigs into something closer to theatre — complete with period costumes and gothic staging — The Last Dinner Party’s live shows have been central to their rise, earning them a reputation as one of Britain’s most distinctive new acts.

Where ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ was grand and immediate, ‘From The Pyre’ looks set to dig deeper into mood and emotion, balancing beauty with unease. If the new singles are any indication, The Last Dinner Party aren’t just chasing the same acclaim — they’re widening the stage, burning brighter, and stepping further into their own strange mythology.

The Last Dinner Party and Vampire Weekend are among the bands who have come out in support of The Mary Wallopers after the Irish band had their set cut short at Victorious Festival.

The Mary Wallopers were just a couple of songs into their show at the Portsmouth festival last Friday (August 22) when they had their sound cut off.

The band then took to their Instagram to confirm the reason that they were removed from stage, saying: “Just got cut off at Victorious Festival for having a Palestinian flag on the stage. We’ve been doing this for 6 years now and its never happened before. Free Palestine all day every day.”

Victorious is one of many festivals which is operated by Superstruct Entertainment – a company owned by the controversial global investment firm KKR, which has been criticised for its alleged stakes in weapons manufacturing companies and Israel cooperations operating in the occupied Palestine territories.

A spokesperson for the festival spoke to NME, confirming their reasonings behind cutting the sound of The Mary Wallopers, saying: “We spoke to the artist before the performance regarding the festival’s long-standing policy of not allowing flags of any kind at the event, but that we respect their right to express their views during the show.

“The decision by the event management to cut the sound and end the performance was only taken after the band used a chant which is wildly understood to have a discriminatory context.”

Footage from the performance, as seen below, shows that the only chants heard were “free, free Palestine” followed by shouts of “Let them play” once the sound was cut off.

Since the set, many artists and bands have come out in support for the Irish band. Kneecap were the first to make a statement, saying: “Speak up against genocide in England and you’re treated like a criminal. Up The Mary Wallopers. Free Palestine! Free the 6 counties!”

The controversy then led to a boycott of the festival by multiple bands who were scheduled to perform during the weekend, including The Last Dinner Party.

The Brit Award winners took to Instagram to announce their decision to drop out of the festival at short notice: “We are outraged by the decision to silence The Mary Wallopers yesterday at Victorious. As a band we cannot cosign political censorship and will therefore be boycotting the festival today.

“As Gazans are deliberately plunged into catastrophic famine after two years of escalating violence, it is urgent and obvious that artists use their platform to draw attention to the cause. To see an attempt to direct attention away from the genocide in order to maintain an apolitical image is immensely disappointing.”

Fellow Irish bands The Academic and Cliffords then followed The Last Dinner Party’s decision to boycott the festival.

Vampire Weekend then headlined the festival on Saturday (August 23) night and took the chance to address the controversy, with frontman Ezra Koenig saying: “If someone was punished for flying a flag, that is wrong and they deserve an apology. The terrible suffering of the Palestinian people deserves all of our sympathy.”

The Mary Wallopers are yet to receive an apology from Victorious Festival at the time of writing. Keep up to date with this ongoing issue here at mxdwn.co.uk.

The Last Dinner Party said in a statement: “This record is a collection of stories, and the concept of album-as-mythos binds them. ‘The Pyre’ itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion and light.”

Earlier in May, the band teased the mood of their upcoming project in an interview with NME: “It’s got darker themes, and we’ve been processing heavier emotions. It’s a pretty dark time, so I think that is reflected in the music because we’re in touch with the world.”

With the album reveal comes the first single, ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’. The song was met with positive reviews, with Cult Media saying “This confident leap forward is of the same quality as their debut. This is the Killer Speaking swings from tender spoken-word spots to infectious glam-rock moments, which hear The Last Dinner Party implement new ideas into an already present momentum.”

Far Out also gave a warm reception to the new single: “Like if Kate Bush wrote a theme tune for a western flick, it merges the group’s cinematic inspirations with a perfect balance of feminine and masculine soundscapes, letting Morris’ voice show off the full range, including some incredible high points, in a way that perfectly suits the lyrics too.

“Singing of a dark and doomed love and a desire to reclaim the power, it’s likened to a hostage situation or a villain wandering back into town after she escapes and returns a savage, just as the band play it live, marching one by one back onto stage for an encore.”

The band recently appeared at BST Hyde Park as the penultimate support act for Olivia Rodrigo. Here, their performing prowess received high praise, with yahoo!life writing “The setlist varied in musical style, each with rich vocal harmonies, fancy guitar flourishes, and all wrapped in a dramatic flair. I was instantly sensing a combination of Kate Bush and David Bowie influences, with the more contemporary flamboyance of artists like Chappell Roan.”

The group will be trying to continue their successful run which has grown since they stepped on the scene – in 2024, they won the Brit Rising Star Award, and returned in 2025 to snatch the Best New Artist award.

The Last Dinner Party will be curating an exhibition on David Bowie, set to open in the V&A in London this September.

The Last Dinner Party have shared details of their sophomore album, ‘From The Pyre’, and released the lead single ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’.

Set to hit shelves on October 17, the London five-piece follows on from their heavily-acclaimed debut ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’ which led the band to two BRIT Awards.

The band hit the studio alongside Grammy Award-winning producer Markus Dravs for the new album. Dravs has previously worked with the likes of Wolf Alice, Florence + The Machine, and Bjork. ‘From The Pyre’ is available to pre-order now from here.

The announcement of the bands second album coincides with the release of the lead single, ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’. The sound is reminiscent of ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’ but with a more mature and darker feel to it. Check out the new single above.

Explaining the inspirations and motivations behind the album, the London band said: “This record is a collection of stories, and the concept of album-as-mythos binds them, ‘The Pyre’ itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion and light.

“The songs are character-driven but still deeply personal, a commonplace life event pushed to pathological extreme. Being ghosted becomes a Western dance with a killer, and heartbreak laughs into the face of the apocalypse.”

They continued, as they described the darker feel behind this album: “Lyrics invoke rifles, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, and blazing infernos. We found this kind of evocative imagery to be the most honest and truthful way to discuss our experiences felt, giving each the emotional weight it deserves.

“This record feels a little darker, more raw and more earthy; it takes place looking out at a sublime landscape rather than seated at an opulent table. It also feels metatextual and cheeky in places, like a knowing look reflected back at ourselves.”

The Victoria & Albert Museum has announced that The Last Dinner Party and Nile Rodgers will both curate special exhibitions for the David Bowie Centre.

The centre will open its doors on September 13 at the V&A East Storehouse, after originally being teased back in February 2023. As described on the V&A website, it will give fans the chance to “step into the creative worlds of David Bowie – artist, disruptor, icon. Explore the costumes, sounds, lyrics, and sketches that mapped his many reinventions and use his radical imagination as a springboard to something new.”

A number of special displays will be curated for the exhibitions – with over 90,000 of Bowie’s personal items being on show over nine special displays.

We are thrilled to announce that the exceptional archive of legend @DavidBowieReal is coming to the V&A! Spanning 80,000 items across his 60 year career, you can explore Bowie’s life’s work in ways never possible before at @vam_east Storehouse from 2025 #DavidBowieArchive pic.twitter.com/sTGtJnydKB

— V&A (@V_and_A) February 23, 2023

Two of the displays are being curated by the aforementioned Nile Rodgers and The Last Dinner Party. Rodgers has selected items that reflect his and Bowie’s “shared love of the music that had both made and saved our lives”.

Speaking of the exhibition, Rodgers said: “My creative life with David Bowie provided the greatest success of his incredible career, but our friendship was just as rewarding. Our bond was built on a love of the music that had both made and saved our lives.”

Although The Last Dinner Party didn’t have the same personal relationship with Bowie as Nile Rodgers did, ‘Ziggy Stardust’ certainly had a major inspiration on the bands musical journey.

The ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’ rockers curation will include exclusive photos by Mick Rock of Bowie in the studio, his Electronic Music Studios synthesiser user manual, writings from the 1976 ‘Station To Station’ tour and Bowie’s handwritten lyrics for ‘Win’.

The group recently unboxed several items and artefacts of Bowie’s in a YouTube video for V&A. Check it out below.

Speaking of the inspiration Bowie gave to them, The Last Dinner Party said: “David Bowie continues to inspire generations of artists like us to stand up for ourselves. Bowie is a constant source of inspiration to us.

“When we first started developing ideas for TLDP, we took a similar approach to Bowie developing his ‘Station To Station’ album – we had a notebook and would write words we wanted to associate with the band.”

As for the opportunity to curate a display for the Bowie Centre, the band said: “It was such a thrill to explore Bowie’s archive, and see first-hand the process that went into his world-building and how he created a sense of community and belonging for those that felt like outcasts or alienated – something that’s really important to us in our work too.”

The David Bowie Centre opens on September 13 with entry being free, but ticketed. Tickets will be available to book at a later date from here.

The Last Dinner Party’s second album will by inspired by “darker themes’ and “processing heavier emotions” according to the bands guitarist, Lizzie Mayland.

Now going as L.Mayland, they shared insight into the long-awaited sophomore album for the Brit Award-winning band during a recent interview with NME, whilst promoting their debut solo EP, ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep‘.

When asked about how far along the new album is, L.Mayland shared that they are well underway with producing new material and gave a hint into the new direction the band are heading, saying: “I wrote a new song for my solo live shows, which is a bit more directly political and angry… and funnily enough, the upcoming album with the band is also quite angry at the world too.

“We’re writing in direct response to what’s happening around us, and honesty is always important for that.”

They shared that fans should expect a more emotional and introspective album to follow-up from the bands atmospheric debut ‘Prelude To Ecstasy‘, telling NME: “It’s got darker themes, and we’ve been processing heavier emotions. It’s a pretty dark time, so I think that is reflected in the music because we’re in touch with the world.

“It’s not all sad, though; there are some bops as well! It’s not all downbeat either – they’re fun, angry songs.”

Mayland has been promoting their new solo EP, ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’, where they have been able to use their own personal influences to express themselves, sharing in the same interview: “In recent years, it’s been Labi Siffre and Adrianne Lenker, but my long-term influences are Jeff Buckley, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone and Etta James. Nick Drake is a massive one for me too because I’ve always been drawn to quite melancholic and introspective music.

“People may have a certain perception of me or my musical interest because of the band, but our ethos has always been that we’re five individual people with massive, varied tastes. Hopefully, this project will kind of hammer that home even more.”

The Last Dinner Party will be hoping that they can replicate the success of their Mercury Prize nominated debut album with this follow-up.

With one of the main drawing points of the band being the unique and enchanting style of singer Abigail Morris, Mayland shared in the same interview how much of an inspiration Morris is: “Abi is such an inspiration to me for songwriting. The way she can capture such personal vulnerable feelings and experiences in poetry is amazing.”

Although a new The Last Dinner Party album may still be a while away, fans can dig their teeth into L.Mayland’s debut solo EP, ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’, which is out now.

Abigail Morris has also shown her solo range recently, with the beautiful collaboration with talented pianist and songwriter, BC Camplight. Check out ‘Two Legged Dog’ below.

Just a week after the announcement of this year’s nominees for the upcoming BRIT Awards and the news that Jack Whitehall will be returning for another year as presenter, the BRITs has announced their first set of performers to grace the stage during the ceremony at London’s O2 Arena on March 1.

Arguably one of the most exciting acts to be confirmed is JADE, who will be making her solo debut at the BRITs. This follows her performance of ‘Woman Like Me’ with Little Mix in 2019 and her last award at the ceremony in 2021, when the group won ‘British Group’ as a trio, being the first girl group to ever win the award. Following a monumental resurgence to the industry as a solo artist, the singer is up for ‘Pop Act’ and her debut single ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ is up for ‘Song Of The Year With Mastercard’.

Regarding the recent announcement JADE commented: “I’ve honestly manifested every day since the release of ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ to perform at the BRIT Awards. I cried when I found out. I can’t wait to bring a huge, chaotic pop moment to the BRITs stage!”

Joining JADE is this year’s winner of the BRITs Rising Star award, Myles Smith. The rising star is nominated in three major categories, including: ‘Best New Artist’, Song Of The Year’ with ‘Stargazing’ and ‘Pop Act’. Smith began performing covers on social media and now five years later will take the stage at the BRITs. His breakthrough hit, ‘Stargazing’, peaked at No. 4 on the UK Official Singles Chart and has over 640 million streams on Spotify.

When the announcement was confirmed, Smith said: “Performing at the BRITs is such an incredible honour, and it feels surreal to even say it out loud. To think I was sitting at home watching it last year, and now I’m performing the very next year… it’s just insane. Grateful for this opportunity ad can’t wait to step onto that stage”.

The Last Dinner Party have been confirmed alongside JADE and Myles Smith. The group were catapulted into the spotlight when their single ‘Nothing Matters’ gained considerable traction on TikTok early last year. Their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, selling over 32,000 copies in its opening week and was shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize. The ‘Sinner’ performers have secured four BRIT nominations making them more than worthy performers at this year’s ceremony.

Singer-songwriter Shaboozey will also be taking the stage on March 1. The singers amalgamation of country and hip-hop, as seen in his hit track ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’, which achieved No. 6 on the Singles Charts, has earned Shaboozey a nomination in the ‘International Song of the Year’ category.

Shaboozey spoke on the news of his performance and nomination, stating: “I’m beyond grateful and humbled to not only be nominated for a BRIT Award but to take the stage. This past year has been huge for me with my records getting love from all over the world and now I can celebrate with my friends and fans in London”.

With euphonically powerful vocals which seamlessly blend R&B, soul and pop, Teddy Swims, concludes the first set of performers to be announced, and will be riding the wave of his continued success with a performance at this year’s BRITs. His debut album ‘I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1)’ features many multi-platinum hits including, ‘The Door’ and ‘Lose Control’, the latter of which features within the ‘International Song Of The Year’ category.

The five artists confirmed to be performing at the BRITs (thus far) summarise the previous year of music within the UK. With exciting announcements already made, stay tuned for more updates on this year’s BRIT Awards.
