The first show will commence on the 2nd May at Bear Tree- The Leadmill, though many are excited for their final appearance at HMV Empire in Coventry for its intimate, nostalgic location. The store has been a home for alternative music  fans for several years, and with the band’s alt-rock music history this will make for an exciting performance. 

 

    Alongside this, the eclectic rock band will be hosting an exclusive listening party for their upcoming album ‘Never/Know’. The Kooks have collaborated with Deezer to give away 2 spots to the event on Thursday 1 May along with an opportunity to meet the band and attend a private Q&A. 

The upcoming album ‘Never/know’ was announced earlier this year on the band’s Instagram where they revealed the release date to be 9 May. Additionally, they explain the concept of the project as ‘romantic’, ‘positive’, ‘sunshine’. This will be a welcome release for the band with their uplifting, feel-good punk sound.

The band, well known for bangers like ‘Naive’ and ‘She Moves In Her Own Way’ have released six studio albums and eight EPs. Though their latest single ‘Sunny Baby’ comes three years after their last album release in 2022 ‘10 Tracks to Echo in the dark’. The upbeat, bouncy track ‘Sunny Baby’ lives up to its name in its sweet romance– a perfect March release with the oncoming British sunshine. The band released the track with a laid back, colourful music video.  In a post on X, the Kooks have explained the process and thought behind the love-filled track.

The band will follow these intimate UK performances with an upcoming All Over The World tour scheduled to commence in May.

It was announced that The Kooks are the fist act to be announced to play at the Beyond The Valley Festival 2018. The festival will take place at Lardner Park, in South-Eastern Victoria, Australia, from the 28th of December 2018 – 1st of January 2019, in support of their new album ‘Let’s Go Sunshine’.

The Kooks’ frontman, Luke Pritchard described the band’s new album as “experimental and playful”. Speaking to NME about their forthcoming album, Pritchard, said: “For me, with the song-writing I focused heavily on making sure every song had a message,” the frontman said. “Every song has this like moral message and it has a point”.

The band originally took to the studio in 2015, picking up where their last album ‘Listen’, which was released the previous year, left off. However, as it was later explained by Pritchard in a press release, The Kooks ditched an entire album’s worth of material.

“We discovered it wasn’t what we wanted to make and wasn’t really The Kooks. So we scrapped it and started again. I really went on a mission to write the best songs I’d ever written before bringing them to the band. I stewed over every word.  It had to be our ‘Rubber Soul’, ‘Lola’, ‘Definitely Maybe’,” Pritchard adds, noting three classic records with “Proper British lineage”.

“I came from a dark place at the start, had a lotta heartbreak, and then falling in love in the middle of the album…the lyrics reflect that,” Pritchard adds. “From ‘Fractured And Dazed’ to ‘No Pressure’, it’s gotta be our most exciting album, and it should get you dancing,” says Pritchard.

Beyond The Valley is a boutique Australian music festival, which began in 2014 and runs annually over the New Year’s Eve period. Beyond The Valley 2018 will be made even more special by the fact that the festival is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Every year, a hand-picked selection of world class artists, both local and international, perform across three purpose built stages. Thousands of festival goers from around the world travel to see artists such as Jamie XX, Chance The Rapper, Kaytranada, Rufus, What So Not, Zhu, and many more. Tickets can be purchased here.
