The tour will see the Coventry trio perform in major cities across the country, including London, Manchester, Hull, and Glasgow, where they will take the stage at the iconic Barrowland Ballroom on November 6.

The tour announcement comes as excitement builds around their upcoming album, which follows their 2015 release ‘It’s Automatic‘ and their 2022 reunion tour. The new record promises to bring The Enemy’s signature high-energy sound back to fans, blending anthemic indie rock with socially charged lyrics. Though an official release date has not been announced, the band has been recording new material with producer Matt Terry at Vada Studios, aiming to capture a sound reminiscent of their debut album, ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns‘ (2007).

Formed in 2006, The Enemy, comprising lead vocalist and guitarist Tom Clarke, bassist Andy Hopkins, and drummer Liam Watts, rose to fame with their debut album, which hit number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2007. Their most popular single, ‘Had Enough’, peaked at No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart and became an indie rock anthem of the late 2000s.

Commenting on the upcoming tour, the band said on X: “We’re absolutely buzzing to be back on tour and in some of our all time favourite venues. We’ll be trying out new material for the first time in years ahead of the new album we’re making, we’re all really excited to try some new tunes and see what you think whilst we finish it!”.

Clarke surprisingly announced that bandmates Hopkins and Watts would be joining him on stage with this being the first time that the band has reunited since they disbanded in 2016.

The Enemy known in the US as The Enemy UK is an Indie Rock Band that was formed in Coventry in 2006 with frontman Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins (Bass Player) and Liam Watts (Drummer). The band’s debut album We’ll Live and Die in These Towns released in 2007 went straight to number one in the UK Official Albums Chart. The band released a further three albums, Music For The People, Street’s In The Sky and their last album It’s Automatic in 2015 to lukewarm reviews.  In 2016 Clarke announced that the band were disbanding amidst lack of exposure, fatherhood and personal health issues. Clarke embarked on his solo carer shortly thereafter and expressed his delight at the reunion in this tweet.  

The band’s response to their reunion homecoming concert announcement went down a treat as tickets sold out in record time. Followers were provided with the opportunity to scan QR codes that were present in the venue to purchase tickets. A further announcement was made in the shape of a reunion tour to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the release of the band’s debut album We’ll Live and Die in These Towns.

Clarke expressed his gratitude to the overwhelming response on October 30th and said “I never imagined the love and excitement that would be forthcoming today. I knew it would be well received, but this has been life-affirming. I hope we do you all proud. X” The band also expressed the feeling of reuniting and stated “What we weren’t expecting was quite how excited we would all be to play together again. The band’s reunion and homecoming tour will kick off on September 22nd in Leeds and end on the last day of their homecoming gigs on October 29th at HMV Empire in Coventry. 

Clarke is currently continuing his solo tour and is looking forward to reuniting with his bandmates once again for their upcoming reunion and  homecoming tour set for 2022. 02 priority tickets for the band’s reunion tour go on sale this Wednesday, November 3rd with Ticketmaster UK priority tickets going on sale on Friday, November 5th. Tickets will also go on sale for the last date of the band’s homecoming tour date October 29th on Friday, November 5th. The extra date was added following the response from the band’s followers which resulted in the first announced homecoming concert date for October 28th being sold out.

While the subject matter and titular inspiration for the record remain under wraps – is this the same Nigel the band sang about on 2009’s Be Somebody? –  Clarke has promised fans that his debut one-man project will ruffle a few feathers. He told his Instagram followers this week that “The excited response to the announcement of The Chronicles Of Nigel has been amazing. Being such a different record, Nigel is undoubtedly going to divide opinion. Some will detest it, hopefully those who get it will adore it for its difference as I do. One thing is certain, never before have I worked so meticulously on a project.”

Clarke’s new record comes after a four year musical hiatus for The Enemy, with the group having announced a split in 2016 due to personal reasons and lack of exposure. The Midlands outfit had burst onto the scene back in 2007 with their debut album We’ll Live And Die In These Towns, which garnered praise for its energetic musicality, social observation and political themes. That year they were triumphantly hailed by the NME as “the gloriously untrendy sound of old-fashioned British rock’n’roll“, and went on to support big hitters like The Rolling Stones, Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Ash, Oasis and The Fratellis on their UK tours.

Their later albums were less well-received, with their third LP Streets In The Sky in particular copping an inordinate amount of flack from the music press, despite it yielding one of the group’s most memorable singles in the Jam-inspired rock anthem Saturday.  The Enemy’s final album It’s Automatic, which Clarke has since described as the band’s best, was released in 2015.

2020 had been set to be a busy year for the frontman: a solo tour, supporting sets for fellow Midlanders Ocean Colour Scene and a special December gig in Coventry were all scheduled in  during less uncertain times. While he’s been unable to take to the road as planned, Clarke’s new album is still set for release before Christmas. The first snippets from his new material, procured from jamming sessions posted on Instagram over recent weeks, suggest a return to the melodic guitar sound associated with the The Enemy’s best work. Tom Clarke’s new album, The Chronicles of Nigel, is available to pre-order now at www.tomclarkemusic.com
