Perry Bamonte, who was a key figure in The Cure’s lineup through the 1990’s and early 2000’s, has died, aged 65. In a post on the band’s website, they announced that Perry had “passed away after a short illness at home over Christmas.”

Known as ‘Teddy’ to the rest of the band, he had humble beginnings as a roadie and guitar tech for their live tours, brought in by his brother who was their tour manager at the time. Teddy eventually found his way into the band in 1990 as a keyboard player. By the time of his debut on 1992’s ‘Wish’, which featured the hit ‘Friday I’m In Love’, he was also playing guitar, as well as six-stringed bass and percussion.

When fellow guitarist Pearl Thompson left the band in 1993, Bamonte’s role gained more emphasis on his guitar playing. He released 4 albums with the band between 1990 and 2005, in addition to 2 live albums. His tenure ended with The Cure when he was dismissed by frontman and band leader Robert Smith, who wished to try a new 3-member formula with the band, but he later returned in 2022 for their Shows Of A Lost World tour.

For his contributions, he was included in the list of members of The Cure who were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2019. The band, originally founded in Crawley by Robert Smith, Lol Tolhurst and Michael Dempsey, were known for having somewhat of a volatile and ever-changing lineup. Their image, a blend of black clothes and lots of hairspray, contrasted their frequently upbeat music, and their influence can be felt in both Goth fashion, as well as the British New Romantic and New Wave music movements.

Following on from his departure from The Cure, he joined former Placebo drummer Steve Hewitt’s supergroup Love Amongst Ruin in 2012, which he remained a member of until his passing on December 24. He was also known to be an avid fan of fly fishing, providing his gifts in illustrating to Fly Culture magazine.

The official statement on The Cure’s website discloses that Perry Bamonte performed over 400 live shows with the band in his original run, and a further 90 between 2022 and 2024. He is also described as “a warm hearted and vital part of The Cure story”. Founding drummer Lol Tolhurst also paid tribute in a post on Instagram, saying “So sad to hear about Perry Bamonte passing… Farewell Teddy”.

Smith helped curate a lineup of legendary artists to support the well-loved charitable music event at the Royal Albert Hall, alongside the musical performances, a set of comedians are also planning to take the stage.

The show is set to take place from the 23 to 29 March 2026 and will celebrate the 150th Teenage Cancer Trust show.

In early 2025 it was unveiled that Smith stepped up as curator for the event taking the spot of The Who frontman, Roger Daltrey. The Cure have been lifelong supporters of the Teenage Cancer Trust partaking in the heroic fundraising gigs themselves.

The Teenage Cancer Trust is a vital organisation, providing specialist nursing care and support for anyone diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 13-24. They aim to fund nurses, youth workers and hospital units within the NHS ensuring those struggling and their loves ones are not doing so alone. They sole goal is to improve the lives of young people tackling an unimaginable pain.

The event kicks off with a night of comedy on Tuesday March 24 The night is expected to be full of laughs with some brilliant comedians making an appearance, faces available on the bill are:

Maisie Adam

Bridget Christie

Jack Dee

Andy Hamilton

Don joly

Miles Kipp

Athena Kugblenu

Stewart Lee

Dara o Briain

On the following Wednesday 25 March attendees can witness the first musical show performed by none other than Mogwai, Craven Faults and Annika Kilkenny.

Thursdays 26 March set features Manic Street Preachers and The Joy Formidable before Friday’s lineup with headliners my bloody valentine and Chvrches. Chvrches are seemingly performing a stripped back set which fans are ravenously excited for.

Finally, once the weekend hits, to close off this stellar week, Saturday’s lineup has headliner Garbage and Placebo, once again stripped back. The week ends with a bang as for the curtain call Wolf Alice and Nilüfer Yanya will end the feisty run of shows.

This new lineup is a fresh creative direction and displays the exact music taste anyone would expect Smith to hold. The diversity among the acts will draw in a wide range of supporters once again aiding an all so important charity, boosting the fundraisers awareness. The addition of a comedy night also provides a light through the darkness that is this deadly disease, hopefully forming smiles across onlookers faces. Fans are suspected to travel far to witness their favourite indie and rock bands perform exclusive sets in such a legendary venue.

The Cure legend has hand picked comedians he deems his favourites, and his array of music artists is nothing less of impeccable. The week is definitely going to be one that is hard to top for future lineups, but of course it is all going to an incredible cause that will benefit the lives of many.

Tickets are set to go on sale December 12 at 9am.

The announcement showcased a diverse and far-reaching line-up, with the likes of The Cure, Calvin Harris, and Lewis Capaldi set to appear on stage next June. The festival will return once again to Seaclose Park from the 18th to the 21st of June, marking a prominent summer event for the UK’s 2026 music calendar.

For many hopeful attendees, the announcement of The Cure stands as the main event amongst the headliner list. The return of one of Britain’s most famous bands to the UK concert scene brings a great sense of historic weight to the festival’s weekend program.

Since forming in Crawley in the late 1970s, frontman Robert Smith and his band quickly gained traction as one of Britain’s most distinctive and popular musical groups. The band found their footing in the gothic rock whilst balancing popular melodies with a post-punk atmosphere. The band’s influences span across multiple generations of musicians and fans. Their discography spans from early staples like ‘A Forest’ and ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ to crowd favourites like ‘Just Like Heaven’ and ‘Friday I’m in Love’, drawing one of the most enduring UK fanbases across almost 50 years.

Alongside The Cure, acts like Calvin Harris and Lewis Capaldi, both of whom represent the two differing ends of the contemporary music scene, will perform on the same stage. Harris, one of the world’s most popular modern DJs and producers, will feel at home performing in front of large-scale festival crowds, having played consistently in front of worldwide arenas and dominating many streaming platforms. This festival will mark a return to performing for Lewis Capaldi after a brief career hiatus, with many fans eager to see the singer-songwriter back on stage following a series of health-related incidents. His set promises both an emotional and celebratory tone as he hopes to reaffirm his status as one of the UK’s most recognisable voices in mainstream music.

The rest of the lineup makes space for a mixture of established names and promising new artists. Local band Wet Leg will return to play on home soil after the recent release of their second album, ‘Moisturizer’, while The Kooks, Tom Grennan, Teddy Swims, and KT Tunstall are also set to play over the course of the weekend. A nod back to nostalgic musicians like Rick Astley, David Gray, and Shed Seven, alongside the re-formed Sex Pistols (with new vocalist Frank Carter), constitutes the heritage element of the line-up.

Tickets are set to go on sale at 8am BST on October 1, 2025. This will include a variety of tiered ticket options, including day passes, weekend camping tickets, and discounted “Islander” packages for local residents.

Despite faltering in audience numbers in 2024, the Isle of Wight Festival continues to report robust financial performance, generating around £3.4 million in profit last year. The 2026 line-up, relying on a mixture of legacy acts, global stars, and homegrown talent, promises to substantiate the festival’s prior position as one of the country’s leading summer festivals.

The lineup for Primavera Sound 2026 has been unveiled, and it is as ambitious as ever. Taking place from June 4 to 6 at Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum, the bill features over 150 acts spanning genres, generations, and continents. True to the spirit of Primavera, the curation balances legacy icons with rising stars and cutting edge experimentalists, making it one of the most eclectic festivals on the global calendar.

At the top of the lineup, the festival has secured a handful of heavyweights who reflect the range of its audience. The Cure will bring their signature gothic presence to Barcelona, continuing their celebrated run of large scale festival appearances and rumoured new material. Doja Cat represents the contemporary pop and hip-hop end of the spectrum, promising a high energy performance that will contrast sharply with the introspective reunion of The xx, who are returning to the stage after years away. Gorillaz, with a brand new album set for early 2026, will no doubt deliver a multimedia spectacle, while Massive Attack, making their long awaited Primavera debut, will provide a politically charged and sonically immersive experience. The headliner tier is rounded out by acts like My Bloody Valentine, who remain a touchstone for shoegaze fans.

Beyond the top line, Primavera Sound 2026 continues its tradition of building a deep and diverse undercard. Indie and alternative music fans will find much to savour, with acts like Wet Leg, Big Thief, Slowdive, and Mac DeMarco filling the indie quota. What truly makes Primavera Sound stand out, however, is its commitment to experimentalism and global reach. Alongside the better known names are artists who push boundaries in less commercial spaces, as well as those who bring distinct cultural perspectives. Spanish acts such as Rojuu and Renaldo & Clara will provide a local touch, while international voices like Ghanaian star Amaarae underline the festival’s global approach to programming.

The 22-year-old delivered an energetic and well-received performance filled with confidence and a powerful stage presence. Olivia actively moved around the entire stage during her performance and transitioned between emotional songs to high-energy rock and punk anthems. She showcased many outfits, including opening with a white lacy dress and later appearing in sparkly Union Jack shorts.

Olivia continued to excite the crowd by bringing out a surprise guest during her set. She brought out lead singer Robert Smith from the famous punk rock band, The Cure, introducing him as “perhaps the best songwriter to come out of England” and her “personal hero”. The two performed popular songs, ‘Friday I’m in Love’ and ‘Just Like Heaven’, together, becoming a notable highlight of the festival weekend.

The singer connected to her British fans by expressing her love for England and the cultural differences she appreciated, as an American singer, also shouting out her English boyfriend, who was watching her set backstage. She sang into a megaphone during ‘get him back!’ ending the weekend in fireworks and throwing drumsticks into the audience for her fans.

Rodrigo also performed at BST Hyde Park in London this past weekend on Friday, June 27. She brought out surprise guest, Ed Sheeran, performing his song ‘The A Team’ together.

Olivia Rodrigo released her debut song ‘drivers license’ back in 2021, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Charts, breaking a record for the most single-day streams. This debut song allowed her to break out of her former Disney Channel days where she started her career as an actor in shows Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

She later released her debut album ‘SOUR’ that same year, which became the longest-running debut album in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 Chart this century. She released her second album ‘GUTS’ in 2023, with an extended version of the album in March 2024. These albums have skyrocketed her success in the past five years, receiving many awards.

The Cure formed in Crawley in 1976 and produced a unique gothic weirdness that quickly amassed a large fanbase from their debut album ‘Grinding Halt’ in 1985. Since then the British rock band has released fourteen studio albums. Their latest release ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ in 2024 topped five US album charts following its release. The album features eight dynamic tracks including ‘Warsong’, a classically moody song– lyrically macabre from the first line ‘Oh, it’s misery the way we fight’.

Moreno, vocalist of nu-metal band Deftones released his cover of ‘Warsong’ as part of The Cure’s remix album ‘Mixes Of A Lost World’, out on 13 June. The album has also had covers released by Paul Oakenfield and Four Tet.

Vocalist of The Cure, Robert Smith, shared his thoughts on the ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ album in a rare video interview in 2024. He reveals that this album felt “more natural” since their last release was a celebration of their 40th anniversary, which Smith felt had the wrong tone and gave a sense of, “Here’s The Cure after 40 years, be amazed”. Here, he also shares his thoughts on the album’s creation, revealing that he came across a book about Slovenian sculpture and saw a picture of a head “emerging from rock”. He then had a reflective moment where he knew that this would be the album cover.

In an interview with Rolling Stones, Moreno shared his inspiration for the direction he took with the remix. Moreno’s respect for the track comes through in the cover as he upholds the integrity of the song. He shares that he aimed to “strip it back slightly of its organic instrumentation and bring in ridged, mechanical percussion and some down-pitched vocals aimed to bring forth the cold/dystopic feel of the song while maintaining the core beauty of what existed.”. The remixed song shares this blend of The Cure’s melodic intention with Moreno’s smooth shoegaze vibe.

Deftones share a large fanbase with The Cure, releasing nine studio albums since 1988. Their early albums showcased a quintessential nu-metal sound, though their latest music has evolved to alt-rock with albums like ‘White Pony’. The two bands have an ongoing musical relationship with Smith covering Deftones’ ‘Teenagers’ from the ‘White Pony’ album for the band’s 20th anniversary remix album ‘Black Stallion’.

‘Mixes Of A Lost World’ is available to pre-order now, which Smith has revealed he will give all recording royalties of to War Child UK.

Fans have been speculating online following The Cure teasing an announcement on social media last week.

On Friday (April 18), the band shared a post including two images of an iPod sitting in a recording studio. Written on the back of the iPod was the cryptic message ‘CURE MOALW’, with the screen of the iPod showing a selection of tracks by the band.

A 14 second video of mysterious music was also included in the post with the same letters, ‘MOALW’, appearing. The post was captioned ‘IV-XXI-MMXXV’ which most likely references the date of today (April 21 2025).

Fans are obviously now rife with speculation as they await the nature of the announcement, expecting either a brand new record, tour or remix album.

The relevance of the ‘MOALW’ abbreviation has created the most conversation, as it clearly heavily links to their 2024 album, ‘Songs Of A Lost World’. Many fans have taken to X to suggest the five-lettered teaser could stand for “Mixes of a Lost World” or maybe even “Movie of a Lost World” which would indicate an upcoming film release for the “Just Like Heaven” band.

It is also worth noting that the day of the teased announcement coincides with frontman Robert Smith’s 66th birthday. One X user pointed this out and offered their view on the tease, saying: “Is RS teasing some sort of big announcement on his birthday? The bagatelle image on the lower right is giving me Twilight Zone vibes.

“It reminds me of the classic electronic toy ‘Lite Brite’. I see ‘Moon spelled out somewhere on the multi-coloured screen with random letters. It’s a little early, but are ‘easter eggs’ being hidden in some of these images?”

The rumours of a remix album seem the strongest, as legendary producer Four Tet recently debuted a remix of their single ‘Alone‘ at a recent show at EartH in London. Check out what mxdwn.co.uk had to say about it here.

Although everything is pointing towards a remix album of ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, it wouldn’t be a total surprise if a brand new Cure album hit the shelves relatively soon.

Late last year, Smith stated that he is “already finishing” the band’s next album, teasing a release as soon as summer 2025.

Speaking on X-Posure with John Kennedy on Radio X, Smith revealed: “In 2019 we recorded 24 songs for what was going to be a double album, and those eight have come out.

“I’m finishing the next one [album]. I just can’t decide on the running order. It’s always which ones fit best together… There’s an awful lot of stuff that’s unreleased and I never thought I’d bother kind of revisiting it. But actually with the way this album has been received, I think maybe it’s the right time for me just to go back over stuff and get it out there.”

No matter what this announcement is, fans of the “Boys Don’t Cry” band will be looking forward to it. Whether an album, a tour or a film, it is sure to bring excitement to the music world.

The Cure landed their first UK Number One album in 32 years with 2024’s ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ as it received critical acclaim including a five-star NME review and a sixth placed finish in their Albums of 2024 list.

In other news relating to The Cure, it was announced last month that Robert Smith would be a curator for the 2026 edition of the Teenage Cancer Trust concert series at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
