For the first time in its 48-year history, the BRIT Awards are leaving London and heading to Manchester.

Per a partnership with Sony Music, the BRIT Awards are to be hosted at Co-op Live, Manchester, a venue that’s been open for just over a year, ending the award show’s 15-year tenure at The O2 Arena. The Co-op Live is the largest arena in the UK by capacity, with room for 23,500 people standing, situated in the Etihad Campus. For 2026 and 2027, Manchester will be the new home for the ceremony, but plans for 2028 have not yet been revealed.

A date has been confirmed for 2026’s show: 28 February, and the awards will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.

Chairman and CEO of Sony Music UK & Ireland, Jason Iley MBE, shared in a statement to the press: “This is a very exciting time for The BRIT Awards. Moving to Manchester, the home of some of the most iconic and defining artists of our lifetime, will invigorate the show and build on the BRITs legacy of celebrating and reinvesting in world-class music. Hosting the show in Manchester, with its vibrant cultural history, perfectly captures the spirit and energy of the BRIT Awards. I can’t wait to see the show at the amazing state-of-the art Co-op Live venue.”

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, shared his excitement over the new prospects for the city. “For the BRIT Awards to move out of London is a massive coup for Greater Manchester. After 47 years, it is great that this prestigious global event is about to arrive in the UK capital of music and culture.

“Greater Manchester has an unparalleled music heritage known around the world, and this summer will play host to some of the biggest gigs on the planet. That was only made possible by our strong commitment to new talent and giving emerging artists the opportunities to make their name.

“We thank our friends at the BPI for choosing Manchester and we will pull out all the stops to show they made the right decision. Celebrating the BRIT Awards right here in the home of 24 hour party people is the next chapter in its story and you can be sure that we will help them do it in style.”

Since their inception, the BRIT Awards have raised significant funds for the BRIT Trust, which is committed to supporting the arts and music education for young people. Beneficiaries include the BRIT School in Croydon, Nordoff and Robbins Music Therapy, and more. Long-time partner Mastercard has proudly sponsored the ceremony for 28 years. The new arrangement will continue to uphold these commitments without change.

The Brit Awards have unveiled its full list of nominations for this year, with singer-songwriter Raye making history by scoring a record-breaking seven nominations. Raye, real name Rachel Keen, has landed two nominations for song of the year, as well as recognition in the artist, pop and R&B categories, plus a nod in the best new artist category despite her debut release hitting shelves more than a decade ago.

The 26-year-old south London-based artist is also one of five nominees in the most esteemed category of the night, album of the year, for her debut record ‘My 21st Century Blues‘; the catalyst behind her smash hit no. 1 single ‘Escapism’ which has received worldwide attention and critical acclaim.

Central Cee, J Hus, Blur, Calvin Harris, Young Fathers, Dave, Olivia Dean, Little Simz and four-time winner Dua Lipa are also among the artists nominated for this year’s Brit Awards, along with international acts including Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. Up against Raye for best new artist are Mahalia, Olivia Dean, PinkPantheress and Yussef Dayes. Following alleged public outrage, the best artist category has now been doubled to 10 slots after all five nominations were awarded to male artists in 2023.

The awards were heavily criticised as a result, but have stuck to their word on creating a more diverse, representative space, including the addition of a brand new R&B category, fronted by Jorja Smith, Cleo Sol, Mahalia, Sault and Raye herself. With all of this in mind, girl power appears to be bigger than ever, with more than half of this year’s nominations featuring women. Figures show that six out of 10 of the British artists of the year are female-led, rising to eight out of 10 in the international category, and four out of five of the best new British artists.

The awards are voted for by the Brit Awards Voting Academy which is comprised of musicians, industry professionals and media figures. However, the British general public will have the final say on the winners of the five genre categories, with voting taking place via Instagram. Voters must tag the official BRIT Awards Instagram account (@BRITs) and include a Voting Hashtag in the caption which is explained in the terms and conditions. Completing this action will contribute five (5) votes towards the artist.

Meanwhile, the winners of songwriter of the year and producer of the year will be revealed beforehand during the run-up to the show in the coming weeks, with the ceremony set to take place at the O2 Arena, London on Saturday 2 March. For those wanting to dance the night away, you can grab a last-minute ticket to the awards here.

It has been confirmed that this year’s The White Label Auction has set a new record for the amount raised from LP test pressings; the total hammer price is currently at a whopping £43,540. The auction was held on 7th June 2022 and was hosted by Omega Auctions, an auction house which specialises in vinyl records and music memorabilia. Over its three editions, The White Label Auction has raised a total fast approaching £100,000.

We’re delighted to announce the incredible result from The White Label Auction with a record hammer price of £43,540, with net proceeds going to The BRIT Trust!

The auction previously confirmed that all net proceeds will be donated to The BRIT Trust, an esteemed institution which supports charities and establishments involved in the music industry. The trust was founded in 1989 and is partly funded by money raised by the famed BRIT awards and other fundraising events, since its formation the BRIT Trust has raised over £28 million for its many causes. The trust aims to fund educational programmes such as The BRIT School and causes committed to mental wellbeing such as Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy plus many more.

Chair of The BRIT Trust, Tony Wadsworth CBE has given the following statement, “Once again we see people’s love of vinyl combine with the power of music to create something of real worth that will benefit the many causes we support across the UK, whether it’s the next generation of creators from The BRIT School, music therapists from Nordoff Robbins or professionals who work with mental health charities like Mind and Music Support. We are grateful to all the artists and labels for generously contributing their test pressings, and to Johnny Chandler and the Universal UMC team for pulling it all together.”

The auction consisted of 175 lots of White Label LP test pressings, with a large amount signed or personalised by artists many lots sold for four figure sums, the available lots were donated by artists as well as both major and independent record labels. White label LPs are considered vastly valuable by collectors and music fans as they are rarely found and are usually kept in archives. Only a handful are usually produced and provide a special insight into the album’s recording process, the LPs are typically manufactured before the album’s full release.

The highest selling lot at this year’s auction was a white label reissue of The Cure’s 1989 release Disintegration, which was signed by frontman Robert Smith and sold for £5,500. The auction included five lots of The Cure LPs, the total amount raised by the group’s records amounted to £12,250. Further high figures were seen from the record sales of The Sex Pistols, two 7” test pressings of the iconic album God Save The Queen sold for £2,550 combined.

Amongst the 175 lots, many well-known albums and celebrated artist’s accumulated impressive bids. A 6 LP set of The Police’s Every Move You Make sold for £1,200 and Disraeli Gears by Cream sold for £700. Lots consisting of The Spice Girls’ music also contributed to the auction’s large donation, a White Label LP of Spice sold for £440 and a copy of The Greatest Hits brought in £340, totalling an incredible £780.

The White Label auction first took place in 2019 and is the brainchild of Johnny Chandler, the A&R director at Universal Music UK has given the following statement, “Once again the response to the auction from artists, managers and labels has been incredible – today’s wonderful result, which will see funds raised go to support the work of The BRIT Trust and the charities it supports right across the UK, is down to them and the ongoing love affair fans have with vinyl. Special thanks to Dan Hampson, Gennaro Castaldo, and their respective teams at Omega Auctions and BPI, Julian Stockton and all at UMC for helping make this possible.”

The award-winning artist is also shortlisted for Song of the Year, Dave was also nominated for the award in 2020 for the single “Location”. Little Simz is also in the running for multiple awards, the 27-year-old rapper has secured her fourth nomination for Best New Artist.

Tom March 2022 BRITs chair and co-president of Polydor records have given the following statement concerning the recently announced nominations. “I am delighted to see such a brilliant spread of artists across the categories this year. It is great to see so many of the artists that have defined this past year have been recognised, all exemplifying enormous talent and creativity. It is a true testament to the power and vibrancy of British and international music right now. We look forward to what the public vote for as winners in the four new genre award categories, introduced to create even more opportunities for artists to be recognised when the voting opens in January. I thank our Voting Academy for providing such inspirational nominees for the 2022 BRITs.”

The upcoming BRITs promise to return with a bang, as the 2022 ceremony includes four new genre-based awards. The British institution will now recognise and award acts for their work within pop, rock, dance and hip-hop. The winners of the new categories will be determined via a public vote on the popular app TikTok. The 2022 awards will also welcome some changes within its organisation and ceremony. A new ruling will be enacted which means that featured artists are now eligible to be nominated in their own right for the Song of the year and international song of the year categories. The nomination list for this year has also seen some changes, the docket includes more female artists than previously seen in over a decade.

The winners will be announced during the BRIT Awards ceremony held on Tuesday 8th February 2022 at London’s O2 Arena. The event will be presented by Mo Gilligan and will be broadcast via ITV and ITV Hub.

The award is presented and supported by BBC Radio 1 and aims to showcase British artists who have not placed an album within the top 20 nor have had more than one single place within the top 20. This year, the winner for the award was presented by Clara Amfo via her show on BBC Radio 1. The BBC spoke with Humberstone concerning her recent win, the singer was interviewed after she first discovered the good news. When asked how it felt to join the ranks of the celebrated artists who have won the award in previous years, the singer replied, “I remember watching the Brits as a child and being in complete awe of all of the artists, so this is kind of mad.”

The singer was also questioned to describe life as an artist during lockdown, “It was really hard for me to grasp just what was going on. [During the pandemic] I felt like I was living two parallel lives. One of them was my career – I seemed to be doing OK on the internet and my statistics looked good or whatever – and the other one was me sitting at home, completely uninspired. So it was really strange coming out of lockdown and going straight into playing festivals, and seeing that there are actual, physical people who have listened to my music. That was something I’d never had before.”

Humberstone has risen as a standout artist from the recent pandemic and has carved out an avid audience since her first release. The singer released her first EP Falling Asleep At The Wheel on 14th August 2020 via the record label Platoon. In 2021 the singer signed with major labels Interscope and Polydor Records, soon after her second EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin was released on 12th November 2021.

Since the formation of her musical career, the singer has released a total of twelve singles, including a cover of the Radiohead track “Fake Plastic Trees”. The acoustic cover was released as a non-album track on 30th July 2020 and was accompanied by an intimate music video. As well as her recent BRIT win, the singer has also achieved success with other awards. The singer came in second place for BBC’s Sound of 2021 and was included in the running for YouTube artist on the rise.

Previous winners of the Rising Star award have included such artists as Jessie J, Sam Smith, Jorja Smith, James Bay and Adele. The accolade has been a staple of the popular music institution since the 28th Brit Awards held in 2008. The award was previously known as the Critic’s Choice Award, the winner is decided by a panel of professionals from all avenues of the music industry. The first-ever winner of the award was Grammy-Award winning artist Adele, the singer was nominated alongside Duffy and Foals.

Humberstone will be hitting the road in March 2022, the singer will embark on tour in support of Girl In Red. The tour will see Humberstone perform across the United States and Canada in over twenty-five cities. The “Scarlett” singer will then start her solo performances in the United Kingdom, Humberstone will begin her UK dates with a set in Manchester on 5th June 2022.

Speaking on her inclusion, Humberstone has provided the following statement, “Music has always been my entire life, and being nominated for such a prestigious award really means everything to me. Recognition from the BRITs is something I am struggling to comprehend at the moment! it’s truly an honour to be nominated for the BRITs Rising Star Award alongside two other incredibly inspiring female artists.”

Bree Runway is no stranger to accolades, earlier this year the British rapper and singer won a BET Award for Best International Act and was shortlisted for the BBC Sound of 2021 poll. The 29-year-old singer signed with EMI Records in 2018 and has released one mixtape and three Eps. The talented artist has been making music since a child and performed for Michelle Obama at age 14. Runway has gone on to work with many influential artists including Rhianna and Missy Elliott, the singer recently released the single “Space Ghost Coast to Coast” with British rockers Glass Animals.

Attending the BRITs alone has been something I’ve wanted to do for years, but attending as a Rising Star nominee is a DREAM.”

Lola Young has released a collection of Eps and has garnered critical success for her work. The 21-year-old singer got her start at open mics and won a national competition at the age of 13. Young recently rose to fan for her beautiful rendition of the 1984 Philip Oakley and Giorgio Moroder hit, “Together In Electric Dreams”. The cover was used in this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert and promptly captured the nation’s hearts.

It feels surreal and completely unexpected. I actually have to pinch myself looking at the other artists that have been nominated previously. It is such a big step for me and I feel very excited to have been nominated!”.

The Rising Star award was previously known as the Critics’ Choice Award and has been included in the ceremony since 2008, the award’s first winner was Grammy-Award winning artist Adele. The award’s winner will be selected by a panel of industry professionals and experts. The winner for the Brits rising star award will be announced on 10th December, the winner will be handed the award at the ceremony next year.

The BRIT Awards have announced new details concerning next year’s event in which confirm the ceremony’s date as well as the new committee chair.

The British Phonographic Industry’s annual awards are set to take place on 8th February 2022 and will return to the landmark venue, London’s O2 Arena. The BRIT awards website has given the following information concerning the date and location, whilst confirming how viewers can watch at home. “We’re very excited to confirm the date of The BRIT Awards 2022 with Mastercard as Tuesday 8 February. Once again taking place live from The O2 Arena and broadcast on ITV.”

The prestigious awards ceremony will also return with a new chair of the BRIT awards committee, Tom March, co-president of award-winning record label Polydor. The event has a longstanding tradition of employing well-respected professionals within the music industry to chair the committee. Last year’s event included Rebecca Allen, EMI president and Selina Webb, Universal Music EVP as the award’s show-runners. In 2020, David Joseph, Universal Music UK CEO and Chairman were charged as the committee’s chair, the 40th edition of the ceremony also saw comedian and actor Jack Whitehall present the event for the third year.

Whitehall recently took to Twitter to announce that he will be stepping down as the BRIT award’s host. After holding hosting responsibilities for four years the comedian has cited his departure due to filming and location conflicts.

Sad to say after 4 brilliant years, I’ll be handing on the baton as I’ll be in the US filming another project at the top of next year. Loved doing it so much. All the best to the new host, I pray they treat Mursy, my mixers and sweet little Nialler with the respect they deserve. https://t.co/rU4Za69wwC

— Jack Whitehall (@jackwhitehall) September 24, 2021

The BRIT award’s website has released the following statement confirming the new chair whilst welcoming back the event’s partner Universal Music UK. “We’re also announcing that that Polydor co-president Tom March is taking over as Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2022 under Universal Music UK’s third year at the helm and following 2021’s extraordinary show which not only heralded the return to live music in the UK following the Covid-19 pandemic, but also included stand-out winner and performance moments from global superstars including Taylor Swift, Elton John, The Weeknd, Coldplay and Dua Lipa.”

The BRIT awards proceed to reassure readers and viewers that next year’s event will uphold the morals and ethics in which the event aims to encompass each year, Such ethics were noticed at this year’s event. A focus of thanks was present at the ceremony for the NHS and the Key Workers tasked with hard work during COVID-19. “The 2022 show will continue to build on that ethos; celebrating British and international artists and their achievements over the past year, in what is set to be an even more innovative and interactive show than ever before.”

An emphasis on the event’s philanthropic element is given within the BRIT award’s statement, the event promises to continue their contribution and involvement within the award’s charity The BRIT Trust. “The long-standing partnerships with ITV (29 years), Mastercard (24 years) and The O2 arena (12 years), will continue to support The BRITs’ mission to continue delivering an evening of live music and entertainment that millions of music fans all over the world annually tune in for, and that has raised much of the £27million distributed to date by The BRIT Trust, the charitable arm of the awards, to charities that promote education and well-being through music.”

Established in 1999, The Brit Trust was formed by UK record labels and various music industry communities. The trust’s focus and mission statement are to use its funds, tools and resources to utilise music and the arts to benefit young people and their lives. The trust’s financial backing is mostly from the money in which is raised from the annual BRIT awards as well as the Music Industry Trust awards dinners. Such causes and institutions with which the trust works include The BRIT school and Nordoff Robbins, a UK independent music therapy charity that uses music to aid in physical and mental health issues.

Through the announcement of the Singles Chart, the ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ singers record-breaking achievement was revealed. The group have made UK chart records by having releases stay within the top 10 longer than any other girl group. The group’s single ‘Heartbreak Anthem’ which was released on 20th May 2021 remained within the top 10 this week when the song charted at number 7, the single’s position sees it chart within the top 10 for 100 weeks. The single saw the group collaborate with Swedish DJ duo, Galantis and French DJ and producer David Guetta and has been certified silver by the BPI.

Bandmember, Leigh- Anne Pinnock has spoken out in celebration of this record and thanks to the group’s fans for their support. “Wow! It’s amazing, and we wouldn’t have done this without you guys. You never fail to blow us away – you’re just incredible and we wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you.”

Despite the departure of their fourth member Jesy Nelson, this year has been a fruitful experience for Little Mix. The group have been breaking records and collecting accolades, their most recent award was at this year’s Brit awards for their 2021 studio album, ‘Confetti’. The band were the first girl group to win the Best British Group award, within their acceptance speech the group dedicated the award to ex-member Jesy Nelson and their creative and production teams, “Thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the last 10 years. Thank you to our incredible team, and everyone who worked with us on Confetti.” The trio, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, also thanked the efforts of the key workers within the current pandemic. “And of course, to the key workers who continue to work for the health of the nation”

The trio also addressed issues in which were important to them, “It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity. We’re proud of how we’ve stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever.” The hitmakers then continued to dedicate the award to the girl groups who came before them. “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female bands … this one’s for you. So thank you BRITs, and we hope you have an amazing night.”

Previous girl bands who have come close to Little Mix’s achievement include Girls Aloud, the fivesome once spent 61 weeks within the charts. The group was made popular by the historic talent show ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ in 2002 and also spent a total of 8 weeks in the number one position. The next record is 59 weeks within the top 10, set by Motown icons The Supremes. The ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ singers are known to be one of America’s most successful girl groups and rivalled the Beatles popularity within the 1960s. The Sugababes take the bronze position with a total of 57 weeks within the top 10, despite the group’s many line-ups changes the ‘Overload’ singers have had four albums certified platinum and have won a Brit Award for Best British Dance Act in 2003. Lastly one of music’s most iconic girl groups, Spice Girls, take fourth place with 50 weeks within the charts. Responsible for popularizing the phrase ‘Girl Power’, Spice Girls have remained a favourite of any music fan and sparked Britain’s love for girl groups in the 1990s.

In other news, the group’s waxwork figures at Madame Tussauds have now been unveiled to the public. The band’s waxworks include ex-member Nelson and depict the group in the outfits and aesthetics featured in their music video for the 2019 single ‘Bounce Back’. The work on the group’s entry started in early 2020, which may account for the look chosen and inclusion of Nelson. Fans will be able to see the real thing live when the trio hit the road next year for their UK tour.

23-year-old singer Mabel – full name Mabel McVey – is currently on the UK leg of her sold-out ‘High Expectations’ tour. It’s been a huge year for this artist, with three Brit Award Nominations and a chance to perform at the award show. But, all of this would overwhelm anyone, and Mabel has unfortunately had to cancel two of her UK shows due to illness.

The two gigs in question are both Mabel’s Southampton show and her appearance in Norwich, which were planned to be on the 8th and 9th February respectively. The artist explained the situation to fans through her social media, saying that the shows would be rescheduled “as soon as possible”.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to postpone my next 2 shows in Norwich and Southampton due to health reasons. We will make every effort to reschedule these dates for as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and sorry to let you down. Love Mabel x

— Mabel (@Mabel) February 8, 2020

Southampton venue O2 Guildhall tweeted to inform and reassure fans: “We wish her a speedy recovery and will announce any further details regarding a reschedule as and when we have them”. Norwich UEA have also addressed ticket holders, confirming that they may either keep their ticket for the rescheduled date, or receive a refund by calling them on 01603 593272. Fans were disappointed yet understanding, telling the singer to take care of herself and sending love and support. Many posted videos from the previous tour dates exclaiming their love for the show.

Beginning 30th January 2020, ‘High Expectations’ had 10 UK dates planned, after which Mabel would attend the Brits before setting off on the 24-date European leg until March. Shen would then take a short break, by which time it would be festival season. Hopefully the singer is back at her best soon to continue with these plans. This is the second tour for Mabel, which she undertakes with her three-piece live band and four backing dancers.

Mabel has been nominated for Brit awards for Best Female Solo Artist, Best Newcomer and Song of the Year, making her the “only woman to break into in any of the mixed gender categories” according to The Guardian. As her career truly takes off, it is understandable that she needs a rest, especially with such a big performance coming up.

‘Finders Keepers’ and ‘Don’t Call Me Up’ are two of the most popular tunes released by this artist, who began her career in 2015 with debut single ‘Know Me Better’. When ‘Finders Keepers’ was released in 2017, it reached Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart and made a name for the young artist. She has since released two albums, ‘Ivy To Roses’ and ‘High Expectations’ as well as numerous singles and EPs. Mabel has also worked on many collaborations including ‘Ring Ring’ with Rich the Kid and, recently, ‘God Is A Dancer’ with Tiësto.
