Jeff Mills, the Detroit techno pioneer and visionary, is embarking on a major international tour in 2025–2026 to mark the thirtieth anniversary of his legendary mix ‘Live At The Liquid Room – Tokyo’. Widely regarded as one of the most important techno recordings of all time, the mix captured Mills’ raw energy and technical mastery at a time when he was redefining what it meant to DJ. This new tour not only revisits that milestone but also blends music with archival video footage to create an immersive celebration of techno history.

Originally recorded in 1995 at Tokyo’s Liquid Room nightclub, the set is remembered for its speed, dexterity, and intensity. Mills used two turntables alongside reel-to-reel tape machines, weaving together a sequence of tracks that still feels futuristic three decades later. Although the mix was eventually released in an edited form, the full uncut version has achieved near-mythical status among techno enthusiasts. The upcoming shows aim to bring audiences closer to that original moment, offering a taste of what it was like to witness Mills in mid-90s Tokyo.

The tour includes stops across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, with each show tailored to highlight both the global influence of techno and the unique cultural contexts where it has taken root. In London, Mills will return to Fabric, one of the city’s most iconic electronic music venues, on November 8. A week later, he will arrive in Japan for a pair of highly anticipated shows: first in Osaka at Joule on November 14, followed by a return to Tokyo’s Liquidroom on November 15, a symbolic homecoming to the site of the original recording. Other notable stops include Hong Kong on November 21 and Paris on December 5, with further performances scheduled across Italy, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil.

Mills is incorporating visual elements to deepen the audience’s connection to the Liquid Room legacy. Screenings of rare footage from the original Tokyo performance will accompany select shows, while unseen archival material will be woven into the live sets. These audio-visual components go to show Mills’ ongoing commitment to presenting techno as more than dance music – it is a form of cultural expression.

Previously, Drumheads have hosted some of the biggest names in the industry. On November 9 2024, Drumsheds welcomed the “30 Years of Bugged Out!” celebration, a landmark event that included a DJ set from The Chemical Brothers, performances by Modeselektor, Octave One live and Simian Mobile Disco. And in early 2025, Drumsheds hosted the Red Bull Culture Clash, featuring crews like WSTRN, Spice, Ghetts and Flowdan.

Drumsheds have also used the summer period to bring in a number of changes to the venue space. One of the most significant improvements comes in the form of enhanced sound. A new d&b audiotechnik system has been installed, promising more consistent clarity throughout the building. Room X has been fitted with additional infra-bass units, enriching the low-end and delivering a more physical, immersive sound experience.

Another major focus has been room redesigns. Room X now benefits from upgraded acoustics, improving sound distribution and reducing reverb, while Room Y has been reconfigured to improve sightlines and audience circulation. These changes ensure that even in the busiest moments, both performance and crowd experience remain seamless.

To further improve logistics, the venue has introduced a 360-degree circulation path. This new flow system, supported by expanded entry lanes, significantly reduces queues and bottlenecks, something especially crucial for events with such big capacities.

These upgrades follow improvements unveiled earlier in May, including acoustic draping in the main hall, chill-out areas, and refined queuing systems. Each step reflects Drumsheds’ commitment to evolving with the needs of its audience, enhancing both comfort and spectacle.

This season, the venue is not only delivering world-class music – it’s shaping the future of nightlife, proving that scale and intimacy can exist side by side.

Dutch electronic producer Colin Benders, best known for his genre‑blurring modular synth work and as the founder of the Kyteman Orchestra, arrives in Dublin this autumn for a one‑night performance at Wigwam Club on Saturday, September  6, 2025.

Born in Utrecht in 1986, Benders first gained recognition in the jazz‑hip hop and orchestral crossover scenes. Under the moniker Kyteman, he spearheaded The Kyteman Orchestra, combining rich brass arrangements with hip hop and electronic elements. In more recent years, he’s established a reputation as a modular synthesizer pioneer, combining melody, rhythmic complexity, and experimental textures into his live sets.

Located at 54 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1, Wigwam is a renowned cultural hub that hosts everything from drag brunches and trivia nights to curated club nights after 10 pm. In early September, it transforms into a hotbed for electronic music with its underground basement space tailored for bass‑heavy, immersive events. The Subject x Research series fits precisely into this ethos – intimate, bold, experimental, and rooted in the city’s growing alternative club scene

This isn’t a DJ set: Benders manipulates hardware in real time, creating one‑of‑a‑kind compositions on stage. Benders’s live sets are notoriously unpredictable and dynamic. Expect a musical journey built from hands‑on modulation of oscillators, rhythms, and effects – a performance that pushes the envelope of what a UK crowd is accustomed to. His sound merges influences from techno, IDM, and avant‑garde electronic music, always guided by his classical and orchestral background.

With a unique style ranging through orchestral jazz‑hip hop to Berlin‑style modular techno, Benders’s Wigwam debut is set to be one of Dublin’s standout electronic nights of 2025. Whether you’re a modular fan or a regular club goer seeking something different, this live performance promises to push boundaries and provide a massive audio‑visual experience.

This is a highly curated, underground event and opportunities to see an artist like this again in the UK are few and far between. Doors open at 11 pm and close in the early hours – perfect for night‑owls and fans of heavy electronic sounds.

UK-based producer and DJ Daniel Avery has officially joined Domino Records, marking this new partnership with the announcement of his forthcoming LP, ‘Tremor’.

The 13-track album comes as a follow-up to Avery’s 2022’s critically acclaimed album, ‘Ultra Truth’, and is said to be a mixture of electronic styles: ambient, shoegaze, industrial, and techno, all blended in his signature experimental style, according to The Quietus.

Avery also described Tremor as “the welcoming spirit of acid house with the doors flung open wider still to allow in every influence from my musical journey. The warmth of distortion, the stillness inside intensity, the transcendental beauty of noise.”

The first single from the new record, ‘Rapture In Blue’, features vocals by Cecile Believe, which is the alias of Los Angeles singer and producer Caila Thompson-Hannant.

Cecile Believe isn’t the only collaborator on ‘Tremor’; Yeule and yunè pinku also feature as vocalists on the album. The presence of these artists marks Avery’s expansion beyond club techno into more vocal-driven, emotional territory.

Domino Records has ‘Tremor’ set for release on October 31, 2025. Until then, “Rapture in Blue” is out now, offering listeners a glimpse into what the new record has to offer. The album is Avery’s first release on the iconic label after a stretch on London label, Phantasy.

Avery is set to go on tour at the end of the year, but kicked off with a special afterparty event at Concorde 2 in Brighton on July 18. This show, linked to the On The Beach festival, offered fans a chance to see Avery bring his immersive electronic sound to an intimate seaside venue.

The next major date on Avery’s schedule is October 31, 2025, when he headlines New Century Hall in Manchester. Set to take place on Halloween night, this solo live show is anticipated to showcase material from ‘Tremor’ and highlight his signature blend of techno, ambient, and industrial styles.

The tour is notable not only for its relatively intimate venues, but also for its artistic curation—blending his usual club energy with the atmosphere of alternative gig spaces.

Welsh electronic pop artist and producer Kelly Lee Owens has spoken out about the demise of the UK club scene and its disastrous impact on emerging artists in the latest episode of Sidetracked with Annie and Nick – a BBC Sounds podcast hosted by radio DJ pioneers Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw. Airing February 20, the episode touched upon recent statistics from a report by the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), suggesting that with the current rate of ten nightclubs closing every month, the UK clubbing scene could be extinct by 2029.

Thank you for having me @BBCSounds !https://t.co/xvLCh0CqoK pic.twitter.com/l2Mm9CgVQ8

— Kelly Lee Owens (@kellyleeowens) February 21, 2025

Grimshaw started off the important conversation, remarking, “What’s worrying is that you’re getting all these great stats that [the industry is] growing…but then you’re also hearing of clubs closing.” He continues: “So, it’s interesting that it is growing, but then the venues aren’t there or the smaller venues aren’t there.”

Owens agreed, noting that while the threat to well-known venues such as Fabric serves as a “wake-up call,” it’s the “smaller venues” that often go unnoticed and are overlooked when they vanish.

The ‘Love You Got’ singer reflected on her new-found working relationship with Depeche Mode (for whom she joined as the support act for their 2023 ‘Memento Mori’ world tour), and how they have influenced her stance. “I always think of Depeche Mode, they were on the tube with their synths coming to these small venues,” she voiced. “I always think like without small venues, you wouldn’t have Depeche Mode, which is a world like not really worth living in!”

In an ending statement, Owens concluded: “So I think there’s a responsibility when it comes to everyone – from the booking agents to ticketing companies – they need to be investing back into these venues so that the up-and-coming people have a place to be. It’s ultimately like a symbiotic relationship and we need to start viewing it in that way.”

Elsewhere, Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association, contributed to the topic, warming, “We are witnessing the systematic dismantling of the night-time economy. Our industry is not just about entertainment; it’s about identity, community, and the economy. Losing our clubs means losing jobs, cultures, and a vital part of the UK’s social fabric.” Without immediate intervention, he made claim that the UK nightclubbing scene by then end of the decade.

Kelly Lee Owens owes much of her rise to prominence to small venues that are reportedly on the verge of disappearing; born in North Wales, the 36-year old former auxiliary nurse began her career in music in 2009, showcasing her ‘techno pop’ style across London’s iconic grassroots venues. Owens released her eponymous debut album in 2017, and has since gone onto collaborate with other female artists at the forefront of the alternative scene, including St. Vincent and Björk. Recently, she launched her fourth studio album ‘Dreamstate’ in 2024 and is set to embark on her European tour from March 3, hitting locations such as Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Bristol and London.

Debuting the latest collection of her eponymous menswear brand LUEDER at London Fashion Week 2025, the designer swapped the catwalk for the dance floor, traditional models for London-based queer ravers OPIA, pushing music to the forefront with a live techno set from the DJs and producers, Two Shell. Playing original tracks throughout the entirety of the show, the duo also exclusively debuted their new single ‘Oops…’ at the event – a fact pointed out by Lueder herself who wore a white tank top with the track title in promotion.

Two Shell previously released the ‘Oops…’ preview on YouTube February 7, stating its official release date as February 28. The single’s special debut at the LUEDER show comes as a surprise to fans since the collaboration had no prior announcement. The 30 second-long preview videoclip demonstrates the duo’s eclectic sound, featuring a fast-paced drilling bass line, decorated by a repetitive, distorted female vocal refrain, giving listeners a taste of the techno rave’s atmosphere. In a statement for Dazed Fashion magazine, Lueder touched upon the inspiration behind the collection, citing Two Shell’s techno style as the foundation for her work. She continued: “Being in a club for me is quite a spiritual experience, and I think that is what LUEDER is all about, like kind of bringing people together. I wanted something really present and in the now, and that is all together and not thinking about tomorrow, and I think that’s what is was about, that’s what London is about for me.”

German-born, London-based designer Lueder also mentioned the whereabouts of Two Shell, revealing that the duo hadn’t wanted to been physically seen by the audience, instead opting to play their live set from a confined box with flashing strobe lights and a pulsating sound system that indicate their ‘spiritual presence’. This keeps in line with the Two Shell’s signature style: anonymous in nature, the pair have never revealed their identities publicly. Releasing music since 2019, the enigmatic techno duo have kept up their obscurity through their famed stunts: sending stand-ins to DJ on their behalf, using actors for promo shoots to name but a few. Nonetheless, Two Shell have become a well regarded act within techno, collaborating with many high-profile act as such as Sugababes and FKA Twigs, following the release of their self-titled debut album in 2024. Their Boiler Room set at Primevera Sound Barcelona in 2022 was a particularly notable moment from the duo, with over 110k views on YouTube.

Aside from the LUEDER collaboration, Two Shell have a few announced shows in 2025, including an expected appearance at Waterworks Festival in Gunnersbury Park, London September 13.

Tomcraft, who’s real name was Thomas Bruckner, was a German DJ and Producer from Munich who specialised in progressive house and progressive trance music. He began working as a DJ in Munich in 1994 at the age of 19, playing techno and progressive trance music. He played his first major gigs at the technoparade, Union Move, in Munich in 1995. Later that year he released his first track, ‘This Is No House’.

In 1996 he met German producer Eniac who would go on to be his long-time collaborator. The two started making music together straight away, co-producing ‘Viva’, the first of many track the pair would produce together. That same year the two came out with the track ‘Prosac’ which would go on to be a hit when it was re-released in 2001. The two worked together as a studio team for the next decade, releasing many tracks on Kosmo Records among others.

In 2002, Tomcraft released the hit ‘Loneliness’, which was co-produced by Eniac, and ‘Loneliness’ reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. The success of this track massively boosted Tomcraft’s career. He then went on to release four albums across the next four years as well as regularly releasing singles including ‘Prozac’ and ‘Overdose’, which became big club tracks.

In 2005 Bruckner launched Craft music, a new outlet for all of his productions. All the other releases on the label were given a remix by Tomcraft himself. The label underwent a massive relaunch in 2010 to bring it back to the forefront of house and techno music. The label released music from artists which included Spektre and Jimmy Pop.

Over the years Tomcraft had many musical highlights when it came to playing live including playing to 1.3 million people at Berlin’s Love Parade in 2003 as well as playing at Japan’s Fuji Rock festival and festivals in Brazil.

Newcastle DJ, Ben Hemsley, has been announced as the headlining act at Liverpool’s ‘On the Waterfront’ festival. Taking place on the 22nd of June, 2024, this will see Ben perform at the biggest headline show of his career to date.

Coming off an extremely busy festival season, DJing at some of the largest festivals in the UK and finishing a stint in Ibiza, this rising superstar has 2024 in his sights. Performing his signature mix of house, trance and rave music, Ben Hemsley is sure to excite.

He took to instagram to share his excitement, “Liverpool, I’m coming back for the biggest headline show I’ve ever done… 12,000 of you at the legendary Waterfront with me. You can’t beat this man. I feel so honoured to be a part of this ridiculous event. Without a doubt one of the best shows in the U.K. and we are gunna make it so special for yas.”

For Hemsley, the quick rise to stardom came after his legendary 2021 Creamfields set where he only performed due to another artist backing out because of COVID-19 restrictions. Since this set, he has often lauded Creamfields as the reason for his successes.

“Last year [Creamfields 2022] I ended up crying because of the love,” he stated on social media, “In 2021 my dream became reality and I went from playing shows in front of less than 100 people, once a month to selling out the biggest venues and doing shows around the world and then 2022 took it to another level.”

Ben Hemsley’s conquering of the rave circuit has continued in 2023 after a myriad of career defining moments. Hemsley’s first Ibiza residency saw the Geordie artist gain the opportunity to support monumental names in the electronic music arena: Eric Prydz at Hï Ibiza, and Calvin Harris at world famous Ushuaïa.

Ben has seen similar success and adoration. Manchester’s premiere club, and possibly one of the UK’s biggest raves, Warehouse Project, invited Ben Hemsley to headline their venue with his Connection tour. This show was the first to be announced for The Warehouse Project’s new season which sold-out.

Ben stated, “There’s a video of me in 2017, steaming after a night at Warehouse Project with my mates telling them I’d deadline it in 5 years… It might have taken 6 but on Friday I eventually did it and sold it out… Can’t thank you enough. A night I’ll remember forever.”

His connection tour is ongoing and you can find the dates here:

UK future garage DJ SBTRKT has released a synth-heavy new single, “Days Go By” from his upcoming album Rat Road as well as announced a headline show in London. American chillwave trailblazer and singer Toro Y Moi features on the track released on the 3rd April.

Listen to “Days Go By” below:

Rat Road will be SBTRKT’s third album and his first album since 2016’s Save Yourself. It’s set to release on the 5th May and will include the artist’s past collaborators South London-born producer Sampha and the Swedish electronic band Little Dragon. “Days Go By” is the third single to be released from Rat Road with the mellow lead single “FORWARD” dropping last December followed by the psychedelic R&B track “WAITING” featuring the rapper Teezo Touchdown (who previously supported Tyler, the Creator, Kali Uchis, and Vince Staples on tour).

“As humans, our moods are changeable. We are still able to laugh amidst this collective anxiety”, said the artist in a press release. He continued to say that his new album will explore the root of this collective anxiety: “I’m tapping into how we feel about our role in climate change and the future, the politics of Britain, but also the music industry. You need all your wits about you to not get screwed over.”

The man behind SBTRKT is Aaron Jerome from Cambridgeshire. He first received recognition in 2009 when his track “Nervous” became a radio hit and has now remixed songs for M.I.A, Drake, Radiohead, Mark Ronson, Basement Jaxx, Little Dragon, and Underworld.

Jerome is reconstructing his image for Rat Road abandoning the mask he is now known for. Originally the artist used the mask to help maintain anonymity so his listeners could focus on his music rather than his identity. “A lot of my prior press coverage was as a masked, elusive character,” explained SBTRKT in the press release. “My storyline became attached to the mask. A lot has been projected onto or written for me, diluting what I actually created and then, that being attributed to others around me.”

SBTRKT will be headlining Outernet in London on the 25th following the release of Rat Road. It will be his first headline show of 2023. Tickets go on sale at 10 am BST on the 12th April. He will also be appearing at Field Day Festival in London this summer. For tickets see here.

London-based hyper-pop duo Two Shell have released their newest track “✨ mum is calling ✨” alongside a Tik Tok-inspired music video. The group premiered the track at their Primavera Sound Boiler Room. It has since been revised and released as the final track of their latest 6-track EP Lil Spirits, which dropped on the 10th February.

On “✨ mum is calling ✨” the DJs mix samples of distorted Siri voices with playful deconstructed club beats to create a buoyant party track. Their 7th EP, bubbling with energetic glitch-pop beats and autotuned vocals, is leading the way toward a new generation of dance music fused with cyberspace and packed with digital references.

The video for✨ mum is calling ✨”, released on the 30th March, starts in portrait mode mimicking how videos are recorded on a phone. Two masked figures are depicted dancing to the track disorientating the viewer with the heavy use of transitions and the expanding aspect ratio. The group also cheekily uses deep fakes on a stock image to voice ‘mum’ and Memojis to voice their response. Last month, Two Shell released music videos for “love him”, “i m e s s a g e”, and “♡here4u♡” from Lil Spirits.

Two Shell have caught the media’s attention through their mysterious antics and bubblegum bass soundscape since their formation in 2019. They were featured on this year’s NME 100 as well as Pitchfork’s list of Rising Artists Shaping the Future of Music.

The identity of the two performers is clouded in secrecy with the duo using fluffy hats, masks, and shades to hide their faces when they perform. Some fans are even convinced that they send random stand-ins to mime along to their sets at gigs like the ground-breaking DJ SOPHIE did back in 2014. Their use of baby face filters and DALL-E mini to create AI-generated images for their EP art and press images showcases how their identity is intertwined with internet culture. Two Shell rarely accept interviews – their first-ever interview with The Face has now been “destroyed”.

Never failing to keep their fans on their toes, Two Shell have announced they will be playing four shows all on the same night – the 22nd April – in London. They will be performing at Wide Awake Festival, an independent festival that showcases up-and-coming talent, in London next month. The duo are also on the line-up for the German music festival Melt this Summer.

See here for tickets.
