In a TikTok last night, British alt-pop singer songwriter PinkPantheress posted a snippet of an unreleased new song. The artist pushes back against comments she’s received about her dance skills in live concert performances. Most of the singer’s concerts have consisted of ‘no choreography, background dancers, or pyrotechnics’, though from this post, she seems to be changing this. She explains in an interview with THE CUT magazine that her lack of theatrics in live performances is due to how she describes herself as an artist: “I can’t perform like a pop artist. I can’t sing like a pop artist. I don’t have the style or the media training to be a pop artist,”. This is apparent from her initial rise to stardom on TikTok where she changed the game for bedroom pop artists.

In her recent TikTok, the artist states, “I had to learn how to dance to beat the no stage presence allegations”, while showcasing her fresh new choreography with soft, precise dance moves that will surely go viral on the app. The sound used also reveals a snippet of a new yet-to-be-named song, though it has a dance beat and soft hyperpop club feel which has left fans anticipating more.

On her YouTube channel, PinkPantheress also posted an Official Mixtape Trailer. In this fun promotional teaser, there are several actors donning her iconic sleek straight haircut and forward fringe. The singer photographs them and a snippet of a song plays, which sounds reminiscent of her hit collaborative single ‘Boy’s a liar Pt. 2′ with Ice Spice.  The version of this that features in her Mixtape Trailer is remixed to have the familiar sound of a 2000’s ringtone, another link to the sound of her new music considering her connection to Y2k aesthetics.

The pop pioneering artist, known for the short length of her songs, with songs such as ‘I must Apologies’, from her album ‘Heaven knows’ being only 1,47 minutes long, releases this Mixtape Trailer of 0.38 minutes. In a TikTok posted by a fan, many have joked in the comments that the trailer will be longer than any of the songs yet to be released.

The track will be the first single from his upcoming solo album, The Mandrake Project, with this being his first solo project since 2005. Due for release on 1st December, Dickinson shared a teaser video to hype up his fans.

In a press release Dickinson said, “it was important to set the tone of the project with this track,” with him promising that it will be staying loyal to his rock roots.

He continued, “As befitting its title, it’s a heavy song and there’s a great big riff driving it…but there’s also a real melody in the chorus that displays the light and shade that the rest of the album brings… and just wait until you see the video!”

The album, The Mandrake Project, will focus on the struggle that comes with power and establishing your identity, overlaid on a backdrop of science and the occult. The release date has not yet been confirmed, but fans can expect it to be available in 2024. When purchasing the album, fans will receive an accompanying comic book series that further explores the story of the album.

The comic book series will be a trilogy, focusing on “a dark, adult story of power, abuse and a struggle for identity, set against the backdrop of scientific and occult genius.”

After wiping her entire Instagram profile of around 1500 posts, Lipa shared a teaser video with the caption “I’m not here for long”. The snippet showcases the singer’s new auburn look in a series of close-up shots set to an italo-disco-inspired groove, culminating with the lyrics “catch me or I go”. The video has since been deleted.

Fans will have noticed that keys played a significant role in the teaser: Lipa opens her mouth to reveal a key lying on her tongue, while the sound of metallic rustling and unlocking prematurely cuts off the music, leaving bewildered listeners with an enigmatic impression.

Indeed, the pop star’s online behaviour has been particularly cryptic as of late. As well as wiping her Instagram feed, Lipa changed her various social media profile pictures to an image of her eyes reflected in a kaleidoscopic diamond shape. 

Not only that, but upon closer inspection, it seems all of her YouTube thumbnails, as well as album artworks on streaming platforms such as Spotify, have been swapped with kaleidoscopic versions of the original depictions.

Every sign points towards a much-anticipated third studio album – and a new Dua Lipa “era”. In August, the singer revealed that her new record will be coming out in 2024, but will mark a departure from the house-inspired sound of Future Nostalgia.

According to Lipa, the new collection of songs is heavily informed by “1970s-era psychedelia”, which the new imagery she has been teasing seems to support. In an interview with Variety, the pop star explained:

“The album is different – it’s still pop but it’s different sonically, and there’s more of a lyrical theme. If I told you the title, everything would make sense – but I think we’ll just have to wait.”

Lipa is said to be working with a smaller group of collaborators, including modern psychedelia wizard Kevin Parker of Tame Impala – a songwriting partnership the former “all but confirmed” during an interview with The New York Times Style Magazine in August.

Meanwhile, producer Mark Ronson, who worked with Lipa on Barbie smash-hit “Dance The Night”, revealed that he has heard some of the new album, describing it as “incredible”.
