Despite a few appearances at the odd festival, it has been more than 6 years since Tame Impala toured the UK and Europe.

Speaking to NME, Tame Impala has highlighted to fans that the forthcoming album will be “deeply inspired by bush doof culture and the Western Australia rave scene”, as well as one that reestablishes Tame Impala “as a kind of future primitive rave act”.

New single ‘Dracula’ follows this exact theme, a spooky display of synth, it’s a song that gets you on your feet and moving. Though on the slower side of the rave music some may be used to, its a tune for the soul, and commands serenity.

Elsewhere we have seen two new pieces of work released this year by the artist.

Although Tame Impala hasn’t graced the live stage since March 2023, Kevin Parker gave fans a surprise earlier this year by premiering the shimmering new track “End Of Summer” during a DJ set at Primavera Sound in Barcelona — a moment that sparked speculation about what’s next for the psych-pop visionary.

Earlier this month, Parker dropped the single ‘Loser’, accompanied by a cinematic new video starring Stranger Thingsactor and solo artist Joe Keery, also known as Djo. Now, all eyes turn to ‘Deadbeat’ — the highly anticipated fifth studio album from Tame Impala — as the project continues to unfold.

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker is the latest act to be confirmed to be playing a secret set at Glastonbury festival this weekend. Tame Impala’s main man is set to play a set on the Frimly Rooted sound system in the Silver Hayes area of Worthy farm at 1AM tomorrow morning. It is going to be a DJ set as listed in the official festival programme, so fans can expect an hour or so of non-stop tunes from the Australian psychedelic star.

Parker announced this via his Instagram: “GLASTONBURY come see me tonight at the Firmly Rooted sound system in Silver Hayes at 1am. DJ set. Should be pretty funnnnn.” This 1AM to 2AM slot is still listed as TBA on the line-up for Firmly Rooted sound system however, according to the festival’s official programme this slot reads as “Kevin Parker (Tame Impala)” and if there was somehow any doubt on who this is it continues “The Antipodean psychedelic rock icon takes to the deck.”

Kevin Parker’s involvement in the festival has caused speculation that the Tame Impala frontman might feature as a guest during Dua Lipa’s headline set tonight as the pair have worked on her latest album, ‘Radical Optimism’. Parker’s DJ set is going to take place just a few hours after Dua Lipa’s headline performance so we will have to wait and see what unfolds with that one.

Parker has played the English festival multiple times throughout the years with Tame Impala, including headlining The Other Stage in 2019 as well as previously performing at Worthy farm in 2016 and 2013. Fans may well be hoping that the Australian psychedelic outfit may headline the festival one day but for now they will just have to settle for a rare 1-hour DJ set from Parker.

The festival began today and will see headliners Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA take to the Pyramid stage later on this weekend. the festival will run through to the 30th of June (this Sunday), and we will see a huge variety of acts across the huge number of stages including Fatboy Slim, Squeeze, Hedex, Little Simz, Nia Archives, King Krule, Fonatines D.C. plus many many more.

This year we will also see a tribute to the cult classic film ‘Human Traffic’ for the film’s 25-year anniversary. The film will be honoured on two separate occasions at eh festival, first at the Cornish Arms at The Park, which will take place in the early hours of Saturday morning and will see Loop Dee Loop play a DJ set. Then, on Saturday evening Arcadia’s The Bug stage will host Save Our Scene’s collaboration with the iconic film. This will see DJ Boring as well as Loop Dee Loop again and will be aiming to raise awareness for the campaign aiming to help the UK’s nightlife and live music scene with Grassroots music venues closing down at an alarming rate up and down the country.

After debuting her latest single ‘Training Season‘ in a pulsating performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, chart-topping singer-songwriter Dua Lipa has announced the track’s official release, unveiling a surreal new music video to go with it. Co-written and co-produced by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Caroline Ailin, Danny L Harle and Tobias Jesso Jr., the single is paired with an empowering, cinematic visual which follows the superstar in a café in London as she is accosted by suitors and unwanted male attention. The pop sensation is visibly unimpressed by the groups of men around her and watches on as they eventually spiral out of control. Lipa teased the single last month in a clip posted to her TikTok of her singing along to the lyrics, just days after she was nominated for a staggering three BRIT Awards, including Artist of The Year, Best British Pop Act and Song of The Year.

In a press release, Lipa discussed the backstory behind the single, stating: “I had been on a string of bad dates, and the last one was the final straw. The next morning I arrived to the studio to Caroline and Tobias asking me how it all went and I immediately declared “TRAINING SEASON IS OVER,” and like the best “day after” debriefs with your mates, we had a lot of laughs and it all quickly came together from there.”

She continues: “And while it is obviously about that feeling when you are just absolutely done telling people… men specifically in this case, how to date you right; it is also about my training season being over and me growing with every experience. I have never felt more confident, clear or empowered. And while it may be that training season is never over for any of us, you start to see the beauty in finding that person to experience it with. You stop looking for the trainees and become more interested in having someone where you are and someone to grow with.”

Lipa’s last album was 2020’s ‘Future Nostalgia’, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and earned her more than 10 billion streams on Spotify, as well as the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal in 2021. The singer is yet to share any news of her upcoming third album, but there appears to be plenty on the cards for her this year. Directed by Vincent Haylock, you can watch the full ‘Training Season‘ music video below:

It’s been less than a year since Damon Albarn and his virtual band Gorillaz have released any new music. Meanwhile was released last August after Albarn and co. presented 3 new tracks at a free concert at London’s O2 arena exclusively to an audience of NHS workers to show gratitude for their work during the pandemic. But, since the beginning of the project – “don’t let them know your next move” – seems to have been the mantra in mind. That being said, mid-way through an extensive world tour… we have the promise of new music and a new single to boot. Listen to the new collaboration ‘New Gold’ with Tame Impala and Bootie Brown below.

The new single comes with the arguably more interesting prospect of a full new Gorillaz album. The band’s 10th LP Cracker Island is set for release on February 24th and will feature the likes of Thundercat, Stevie Nicks, Adeleye Omotayo, Bad Bunny, and Beck. You can look into full pre-order information, as well as the tracklist here. The album will feature the recently released Thundercat featured track ‘Cracker Island’ after it debuted earlier in the year.

The album comes ahead of the rumoured “Full-length Gorillaz film” we were promised by Albarn at the tail end of last year. In a conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Albarn explained, “It’s something we’ve been wanting to do for a very long time. It’s been through so many incarnations. Gorillaz doing a movie. Honestly. But Netflix, I don’t know. I mean, apart from the kind of running this city now, I mean – It’s just extraordinary to see how ubiquitous they are now. Yeah. They just seem like they’re a good creative team, you know? But I can’t say anything more about it, obviously, because… No, no, no.” So, with very little information revealed on the subject being revealed since… could this be the start? Or maybe just something else entirely.

Two weeks ago, saw Gorillaz play their only UK gig this year at London’s All Points East Festival. The group saw themselves topping a line-up consisting of Self Esteem, Pusha T, Idles, and Turnstile. During their set, the band performed their new single with Tame Impala as well as the usual suspects when it comes to a Gorillaz setlist – including a rare appearance from Shaun Ryder for their 2005 single ‘DARE’.

Tame Impala, more specifically the mastermind behind the band himself – Kevin Parker – has become a bit of a collaborative force as of late. With a plethora of interesting works across many genres with artists like Kendrick Lamar, The Streets, and Mark Ronson; Parker seems to be trying to take on the mantle of the Aussie Damon Albarn. In keeping with the current participatory theme, the next curve ball on the agenda seems to have just been confirmed by a series of posters popping up around London – Tame Impala meets Diana Ross.

While the idea of a Parker/Ross crossover has been in the zeitgeist since late last year, the news stagnated pretty quickly. Parker was going to produce a track for Ross’ last album Thank You. In a quote from The Sun, an unknown source explained “She’s really excited to work with Tame Impala, and is ecstatic with the track,” concluding, “She can’t wait for fans to hear it.” As far as I’m aware, no credits were ever given to Parker on the album, so fans were left a little confused. But now, more than 6 months later, it seems we’ve got a whole project to chew on.

The scale of the headline collaborators would normally be enough to turn this project into something worth building some hype. No one was ever wondering if anyone else was involved with Silk Sonic, for instance. But if you take a little look at the poster… it just get better. First of all, produced by Jack Antonoff, then an extra mention to his band Bleachers, a bit of gnarly guitar playing from St. Vincent and Gary Clarke Jr (?), BROCKHAMPTON are coming back together – or maybe just a few of them – there’s even space for RZA.

Outside of new tunes, Tame Impala are currently in the midst of an extensive world tour. The tour takes the band through the US and Europe hitting most of the major festivals along the way, both weekends of Barcelona’s Primavera Sound and Budapest’s Sziget festival stand out as cracking line-ups. But if you don’t fancy a trip abroad, Tame Impala’s only confirmed UK date this year sees them play London’s Victoria Park at All Points East. Swedish fusion group Goat, South-London based post-punk outfit Dry Cleaning, and the fabulous Caroline Polachek will be joining them this August. A few tickets to the date still remain, so if you want to get in on the action you can check out here.

The poster shown above was taken by a fan, Adam Lewis.

East London’s reasonably new All Points East has only been running since 2018. But since then, the festival has organised an eclectic range of pretty great music, inviting artists such as LCD Soundsystem, The xx, The Strokes, Bon Iver, Run The Jewels as well as many others over the festival so far. This year the standard has been maintained with highlights from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Tame Impala, and returning after their slot in 2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19; Kraftwerk, all heading down to the Victoria Park festival.

At the moment, we aren’t sure how much more is to be announced for the festival, but as it stands; Day 1 on Friday 19th August starts the festival off strong with IDLES returning for the second time in support of their new album “CRAWLER”, Pusha T joins with his only known UK appearance, and Yves Tumour and it’s Band, before Damon Albarn’s virtual band Gorillaz round out the evening.

Saturday 20th will present Field Day, for the second time, since the festivals merged last year. Kraftwerk will return after their 2020 show was cancelled; they will headline the festival alongside The Chemical Brothers. Floating Points represents Manchester’s dance scene while Logic1000 keeps the party local.

Thursday 25th will be headlined by Tame Impala. Other highlights come from London’s own post-punk outfit Dry Cleaning after the success of their recent debut album, the experimental Swedish group Goat only add the energy.

Friday 26th will feature previous headliners The National, their second time on the top of the bill since the festival’s debut. They will be joined by, arguably, Melbourne’s greatest musical export King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, alongside the likes of Fleet Foxes, Low, and Perfume Genius.

Saturday 27th sees the festival kick back into party mode with Disclosure closing an exciting evening with support from James Blake touring his most recent critically acclaimed album “Friends That Break your Heart”, as well as the always on-point Freddie Gibbs, Channel Tres, and Sherelle.

Sunday 28th welcomes Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds back to close the final night of the festival. Nick Cave will be joined by 2020 Mercury Prize winner Michael Kiwanuka. Nottingham punks Sleaford Mods will also be attending the festival, contrasting the sweet sounds of Japanese Breakfast earlier in the day.

Tickets for the festival go on sale at 10 AM on Thursday 25th November, ticket prices may vary anywhere from £60-£100 depending on which day, and what tier of ticket you’re after.

Producer and laptop maestro Four Tet has remixed Tame Impala’s psych-pop bop Is It True. Stripping back the track’s instrumentation, the remix captures the groove of the original in a minimalist, ambient and near-ethereal sheen. Listen below.

Four Tet has something of a reputation for diving into any genre that takes his fancy and producing stunning experimental remixes. Earlier this year he released an eight-minute, dizzying techno remix of Caribou’s Never Come Back, and has previously taken a spin on a plethora of artists’ work, including Super Furry Animals, Lana Del Rey, and Aphex Twin.

Four Tet found fame in experimental post-rock band Fridge before transitioning to a solo career. He released his tenth studio album Sixteen Oceans back in March this year, as well as the incomprehensibly-titled four-track EP ⣎⡇ꉺლ༽இ•̛)ྀ◞ ༎ຶ ༽ৣৢ؞ৢ؞ؖ ꉺლ in May.

And Kevin Parker – the songwriter, producer, and mastermind behind Tame Impala – is no stranger to remixes. He released a remix of Mick Jagger’s single Gotta Get a Grip in 2017, Miguel’s Waves in 2016, and more recently collaborated with rapper 070 Shake in a remix of her song Guilty Conscience.

Is It True was released back in February this year on Tame Impala’s fourth album, The Slow Rush. The album was met with critical acclaim across the board and the band were praised for boldly pushing their sound in a new direction. Is It True has since become a fan favourite for its groovy chorus and punchy bassline, and was performed by Parker on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert during lockdown earlier this year. Check out the track and its retro-inspired video below.

Tame Impala’s year has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Earlier in April they postponed their US summer tour due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but last week revealed their third LP Currents had been certified platinum in the states.

The Street’s dropped a new freestyle, named Difficult Times, on the 3rd of July. The clip, released on YouTube, is a preview for their new mix-tape which is available from the 10th of July.

The freestyle exudes thrift. The mic stand that Mike Skinner, the Streets front-man, is spitting into is set up in his bedroom. Skinner’s freestyle reflects a degree of maturity, not heard on the snarling garage tracks of his prime. The beat rolls and the piano pulsates around the emcee ‘s lyrics. Skinner’s calm delivery gives the freestyle the feel of a spoken word piece, and the wordplay interlaced throughout maintains this appearance. Difficult Times has sparked intrigue amongst fans, ahead of the release of the Street’s new mix-tape, None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Alive. The tape represents the first, original, body of work that The Streets have released since their 2011 album Computers and Blues. Therefore, it is hard to predict exactly what the diverse Skinner has in store. He has previously ranged from vintage garage and grime club anthems to an in-depth personal story-telling experience. Skinner is the band’s talisman and brainchild, however their success is also owed to Kevin Mark Trail, a vocalist and producer who has featured in Skinner’s tracks since 2004.

The Street’s have already stirred the imagination after collaborating with Tame Impala for the single, Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better. Skinner revealed,in an interview with The NME, that he ‘could not believe‘ that Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker wanted to work with him, labelling the band as ‘like a Hip-Hop Beatles‘.This collaboration gives the biggest hint as to the contents of Skinner’s new work, as he has since revealed that the mix-tape is littered with high-profile features such as Ms Banks and Donae’O.

The Streets are a British institution. Albums such as Original Pirate Material (2002) and a Grand Don’t Come For Free (2004) are credited with evolving the UK Garage scene, and making it more accessible. The new Difficult Times freestyle sounds unlike their previous releases. It is hauntingly poetic and echoes a new maturity. Fans are excited to see just what exactly The Streets have in store, and will be counting down the days until the release of None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Alive on the 10th of July.

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, Birmingham native and English music legend Mike Skinner (or The Streets) has returned and released single Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better.

Following a string of single releases The Streets released the song in tandem with the announcement of an upcoming mixtape due to be released later this year, which will be the first Streets project in 9 years.

Unexpectedly the new single is a collaboration with psychedelic Australian outfit Tame Impala. On a post on his Instagram Kevin Parker said “This is a pretty big honour and a dream come true.” This collaboration is one that was not foreseen by anyone and came as a welcome surprise to fans of both artists alike.

The video was also released which featured some of the artists who will appear on the mixtape such as Greentea Peng, Ms Banks and Donae’o. It was shot in multiple locations such as a ski resort, Western Australia and London. Watch the video on YouTube below.

Fans of The Streets will be over the moon with the announcement of a new mixtape as they have been waiting on new material from Skinner for years, with his last full length project being 2011’s Computer and Blues which was met with a lukewarm response from critics.

This is a backtrack on his own words as Skinner revealed in a 2011 interview that there would not be another Streets album. He said “I do not feel any sadness, I would feel frustrated if I had to make another one.”

In the meantime, Skinner has turned his attention to other projects such as releasing music under the moniker The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light and has even tried his hand at acting.

Given the circumstances we collectively find ourselves in, the announcement of an upcoming mixtape will excite a lot of people and, during a time in which a lot of artists are postponing their releases, it’s good to see Skinner announcing releases during the lockdown. All we have to do now is do as The Streets once said; ‘Stay Positive’.
