The track, produced by Jon Shave, who’s also produced for Charli xcx, features a pulsing electro beat with plucky basslines and the groups classic harmonies. An accompanying music video has been released, showing the girls singing and dancing around a London setting.

In a press release, the band said ““We’re so excited to share ‘Shook’! Our third single with Jon Shave and Anya Jones. From the moment we started writing and then putting the harmonies together, we knew it had to be a single. It has an unmistakable Sugababes chemistry, somewhat instinctive once you lock in creatively in the studio – it just felt right. ‘Shook’ is our summer party banger!”

The new track has been received positively by critics like DIY, who claimed that the band are “back with what could well be one of the songs of the summer.”

Since reuniting in 2019, the original lineup of Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy have been going strong. The band has been known for its changing members, with different six different versions of the group being created over its career – at one point in 2009, there were no original members left.

In 2012, the original members got back together under the name MKS (Mutya, Keisha, Siobhan), signing to Polydor and performing together from 2012 onwards. The trio got the rights to the Sugababes name back in 2019, and have been performing under it since.

Since then, the group have performed at Glastonbury twice, completed their largest arena tour, appeared at festivals across Europe and released new music. In 2022, they released their eight studio album, ‘The Lost Tapes’, a project with material dating back to 2011 that remained unreleased.

When the group performed at Glastonbury back in 2024, there was a great rush for the reunited group. At the West Holts stage, many fans had to be turned away due to overcrowding.

It seems the group have added another surprising name to their fanbase – King Charles. It’s been reported by The Independent that The King has requested the Sugababes be played on the red carpet at his King’s Trust Awards ceremony in 2026.

The group expressed their gratitude of the King’s approval, with Buchanan saying: “That’s very, very cool to know the King has requested us.

“We said to the King we’ve been around for 25 years and he was like wow, he was a bit taken a back.

“He said he wanted a CD and we think we’ll introduce him to Overload first, he was really lovely.”

Sugababes, formed in 1998 of original members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan, and Siobhán Donaghy, have been releasing pop and UK R&B hits since their debut album ‘One Touch’ in 2000. The release consisted of well known and loved bangers such as ‘Overload’, which has since amassed over 35 million streams on Spotify. Though, they are best known for the chart topping feel-good tracks ‘Push the button’ and ‘About you now’ from the album ‘Change’ which has gained iconographic status, reaching over 160 million streams and has since been covered by several notable artists including Miranda Cosgrove, Rachel Tucker and The Saw Doctors. 

The band are newly independent in their music production after undergoing difficulty claiming the rights to the Sugababes name when they reunited in 2011, briefly going by the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS). In 2019, they won the rights back to the Sugababes name and are now performing under their independent label The Orchard. 

In the run up to their latest tour, the pop trio have been teasing new music with the release of their dynamic new single ‘Jungle’ in March. The band have spoken about their thoughts on the track in an interview with NME, describing it as a “fun” introduction to their new sound. Following this, the band released another new track ‘Weeds’ on 8 April, when they embarked on the first performance of their tour in Leeds First Direct Arena. This release is quite different in nature, with a laid back, sombre R&B groove. The band have noted, “‘Weeds’ is one of the most beautiful songs we’ve ever worked on – it’s about growing together.”.

This notion is seemingly important to the band and their audience considering how many have grown alongside their discography throughout the decades that they have been sharing music.

The band will continue their tour this April and May, performing their hit tracks alongside these fresh new releases.

Since their formation in 1998, the Sugababes have achieved remarkable success in the UK music scene, including six number-one singles and millions of global sales. Their chart-topping hits include ‘Freak Like Me‘, ‘Round Round‘, and ‘Push the Button’. The group has also received numerous awards, solidifying their status as one of the most successful and influential vocal groups of the 2000s.The trio’s recent performances have been met with overwhelming enthusiasm. At Glastonbury 2024, their set on the West Holts stage attracted such a massive crowd that the area had to be closed off due to demand. Additionally, they sold out London’s O2 Arena, further cementing their enduring appeal.

The raucous weekend first came about in 2007 after a group of students decided they wanted to put together their own rave, aptly named the Mad Ferret Festival. The event kicked itself into gear in Platt Fields Park, Rusholme, but by the early 2010s it had relocated to Heaton Park and christened as Parklife. Since then, the event has witnessed a huge surge in popularity and has been crowned the UK’s largest metropolitan music festival, growing from a one-day event in a field to over 160,000 ticketholders rushing to north Manchester every year.

After today’s announcement, superstar rapper Doja Cat has no doubt cemented herself as the queen of the 2024 festival season, boasting headline slots across the globe for Coachella, Rock in Rio and Open’er Festival. The polarising singer and internet personality is most certainly set to bring the heat ahead of her European leg of The Scarlet Tour.

Festival-goers can also expect performances from powerhouse vocalist Becky Hill, DJ and singer Peggy Gou and Canadian producer Kaytranada, as well as unmissable sets from Anne-Marie, Nia Archives, Fourtet, Barry Can’t Swim, ANOTR, Camelphat, Rudim3ntal, Digga D and Sugababes.

Welcoming a multitude of different genres, the festival has since steered away from indie bands headlining in recent years, predominantly featuring dance, electronic and hip-hop acts to cater to its everchanging audience. This year is predicted to mark a new era for the festival, showcasing a brand new stage, jaw-dropping production, state-of-the-art tech and fewer line-up clashes.

Early Bird tickets sold out rapidly in December 2023, but an exclusive 2024 presale will be open from 10am on Thursday 25th January to anyone who has registered. Registration closes the night before at 6pm on Wednesday 24th January. Three Mobile customers will be able to purchase Saturday and Sunday tickets or full weekend tickets 24 hours before other customers on Wednesday here. Tickets including VIP access and coach travel are also available.

All remaining tickets will go on general sale from 10am on Friday 26th January which you can purchase from Ticketmaster. Both day and weekend tickets will be available either to pay in full or by deposit and signing up to a payment plan.

For those not wanting the party to end, Parklife’s official afterparties, ‘Afterlife’ have been unveiled, including an after-hours set from Kaytranada. You can grab tickets here.

On the opening night, Friday 12, Liam Gallagher will grace the main stage. Whilst speaking about his return to the festival he said “Can’t wait to return to Glasgow Green next Summer to headline TRNSMT.” He continued by teasing about what he’ll play, hinting at some solo material “I’ll be playing songs from Definitely Maybe as well as some solo stuff. See you there.”

Bringing the pop vibes, noughties group The Sugababes have been announced for the Friday Line-up. Known for their iconic hits  ‘Push The Button’ and ‘About You Now’, the band are rumoured to have new releases in 2024. The English pop vocal trio of Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy has changed musical line-ups three times before returning to the original members in 2012. The group released their first single in a decade in September 2023, the soulful song ‘When The Rain Comes’. 

Example has been announced as the headline act for the King Tuts Stage. The rapper and singer rose to fame in the 2010s with his catchy songs such as ‘Changed The Way That You Kiss Me’ and ‘Kickstarts’ and his funny personality, with dry humour, which fans adore. His personality has been shown in videos with his celebrity friends such as Ed Sheeran. Lastly, To complete the Friday line-up, fans will be rocking out to Pop Rock band Picture This and indie group The Last Dinner Party.

Saturday sees Gerard Crosbie, professionally known as Gerry Cinnamon headlining after a four-year break from playing the festival. The Scottish singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist is back, after saying “Get hounded on the daily to do TRNSMT again, well hound no more.”

Pop star, Rick Astley, who is known for his legendary debut track ‘Never ‘Gonna Give You Up’ will be joining the party on Saturday. The 80s singer has made a big comeback over the past few years, with Gen Z audiences ‘Rick Rolling’ each other. The new ‘internet meme’ has become a trend, with people seemingly clicking on a video, and instead being presented with Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give you Up’. Even supermarket giant Sainsbury’s is ‘Rick Rolling’ the nation in their 2023 Christmas ad.

Sunday is the day for all the ravers, with DJ Calvin Harris taking over the main stage. The popular DJ and producers, who have hits such as ‘How Deep is Your Love’ and ‘Feels So Close’ will arrive at TRNSMT for his first gig following his sell-out Ibiza residency. The talented trio returned to the live stage with founding members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, after several line-up changes the group have officially re-formed with all three original band members. With four platinum albums under their belt, the band have become known as one of the UK’s most successful girl groups. The Brit award winning group treated ticketholders to a large collection of their hits including “Too Lost In You”, “Overload”, “Round Round” and “Push The Button”.

During their show stopping set, Buchanan said to the crowd, “This is our first show in so long. The last couple of years have been tough on all of us . . . But I’d like to think we’re way more resilient than people think. We’re all here today, right?”

The very special concert comes weeks before the group’s appearance at this year’s Glastonbury festival, the “Freak Like Me” singers will perform on the Field of Avalon stage on 24th June 2022. Buchanan spoke with The Sun newspaper last month concerning their upcoming set, “This is going to be something special for our fans. We can’t wait.”

The original band members initially reformed in 2012 under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan, after confirming their reunion the group then began to tease new music. During the winter of 2012, the trio performed an intimate concert, after fan made videos of the set went viral the reunion was further established. Following several releases, Buchanan achieved ownership of the Sugababes name and trademark, in 2019 the trio reclaimed their former band name.

The group had originally planned their comeback for 2020 but due to the rise of COVID-19 and subsequent challenges the reunion was put on hold, the band scheduled their return to align with their anniversary. Buchanan took to Instagram live to discuss the group’s derailed schedule,  “We had so many plans for last year. 2020 was our anniversary year, we built it up to do so many things but it didn’t happen, so we have to restructure. We just have to be motivated to do it and passionate about it and once we are actually in the studio it flows really easily for us. But it’s about getting us all on the same page on the same date and the pandemic makes it really tricky. It just has to be organic and be on the same page as far as our schedules are concerned.”

Donaghy has also discussed the group’s plans, last year the singer stated that they have been working on new material, “There’s nothing concrete at the moment, but we are working on stuff all the time and definitely new music. We love making music together and that’s something we’re going to continue to do. And hopefully it won’t be too long now, now that we can be in the studio together again.“

They’ll be headlining at the festival’s Field of Avalon, and they won’t be alone. McFly and famed poet John Cooper Clarke are also due to appear. You can see the full list in the tweet below, which was posted by the festival’s organisers earlier today.

Of course, what with it being Glastonbury, they’ve had quite a bit of luck over the past few months when it comes to getting big names. The headliners range from Billie Eilish to Kendrick Lamar and Paul McCartney, so plenty there to keep festival-goers happy.

Some of the other big names coming up include Noel Gallagher, Lorde, Sam Fender and plenty more. Little Simz will reportedly be headlining at the West Holts stage, returning after a mid-afternoon set back in 2016. And fans of classic sixties girl groups shouldn’t be too put off either, with Diana Ross being set to take centre stage at the festival’s Legends slot, more of which you can read about here.

The full line-up can be seen at this link, but suffice to say, anyone who’s anyone in the industry has a good chance of being there.

It’s been a long time coming, what with cancellations over the past two years due to Covid. Setting stage for the first time since 2019, the festival managed to save two of its three headlining acts that were due for 2020 (McCartney and Lamar), with Taylor Swift being the one that got away. Sadly it’s a bit late to get tickets now, with over 200,000 waiting attendees having bagged the last lot. On the bright side, you can watch it live right now, what with the BBC putting in their webcam on the grounds, viewing preparations that are being made as you read this. Apparently, they’ve already put the cover on the Pyramid Stage, so things are well on their way for the summer festivities.

Through the announcement of the Singles Chart, the ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ singers record-breaking achievement was revealed. The group have made UK chart records by having releases stay within the top 10 longer than any other girl group. The group’s single ‘Heartbreak Anthem’ which was released on 20th May 2021 remained within the top 10 this week when the song charted at number 7, the single’s position sees it chart within the top 10 for 100 weeks. The single saw the group collaborate with Swedish DJ duo, Galantis and French DJ and producer David Guetta and has been certified silver by the BPI.

Bandmember, Leigh- Anne Pinnock has spoken out in celebration of this record and thanks to the group’s fans for their support. “Wow! It’s amazing, and we wouldn’t have done this without you guys. You never fail to blow us away – you’re just incredible and we wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you.”

Despite the departure of their fourth member Jesy Nelson, this year has been a fruitful experience for Little Mix. The group have been breaking records and collecting accolades, their most recent award was at this year’s Brit awards for their 2021 studio album, ‘Confetti’. The band were the first girl group to win the Best British Group award, within their acceptance speech the group dedicated the award to ex-member Jesy Nelson and their creative and production teams, “Thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the last 10 years. Thank you to our incredible team, and everyone who worked with us on Confetti.” The trio, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, also thanked the efforts of the key workers within the current pandemic. “And of course, to the key workers who continue to work for the health of the nation”

The trio also addressed issues in which were important to them, “It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity. We’re proud of how we’ve stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever.” The hitmakers then continued to dedicate the award to the girl groups who came before them. “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female bands … this one’s for you. So thank you BRITs, and we hope you have an amazing night.”

Previous girl bands who have come close to Little Mix’s achievement include Girls Aloud, the fivesome once spent 61 weeks within the charts. The group was made popular by the historic talent show ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ in 2002 and also spent a total of 8 weeks in the number one position. The next record is 59 weeks within the top 10, set by Motown icons The Supremes. The ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ singers are known to be one of America’s most successful girl groups and rivalled the Beatles popularity within the 1960s. The Sugababes take the bronze position with a total of 57 weeks within the top 10, despite the group’s many line-ups changes the ‘Overload’ singers have had four albums certified platinum and have won a Brit Award for Best British Dance Act in 2003. Lastly one of music’s most iconic girl groups, Spice Girls, take fourth place with 50 weeks within the charts. Responsible for popularizing the phrase ‘Girl Power’, Spice Girls have remained a favourite of any music fan and sparked Britain’s love for girl groups in the 1990s.

In other news, the group’s waxwork figures at Madame Tussauds have now been unveiled to the public. The band’s waxworks include ex-member Nelson and depict the group in the outfits and aesthetics featured in their music video for the 2019 single ‘Bounce Back’. The work on the group’s entry started in early 2020, which may account for the look chosen and inclusion of Nelson. Fans will be able to see the real thing live when the trio hit the road next year for their UK tour.

Buena said that press criticism of her comments was “bullying“, singling out The Sun newspaper in particular for its’ stinging depiction of the vocalist as “washed-out“. In the first of two Instagram posts yesterday, the Sugababes star defended her comments, saying “…all those who hate me cos I said a few artists can’t sing great but are amazing performers entertainers have to know I was being questioned by my fans talking about which artists inspire me…I respect all artists especially the great ones…Imma make this clear there are different types of artist. I sing but my entertainments not that great. Some have great entertainment and not the best vocals.”. 

The North Londoner, who launched her own YouTube channel last month with a soulful cover of H.E.R. track Damage and a collaboration with British production duo Electric Pineapple on Black Valentine, added “I just had an opinion which is perfectly fine…Trying to tarnish my name isn’t cool but imma be the bigger person and keep it moving I got MUSIC TO MAKE.”

Buena has been no stranger to controversy this year. In a bizarre turn of events (even by 2020 standards) the Sugababe was one of a minority of celebrities to publicly endorse ‘QAnon’ conspiracy theories associated with the far-right on her social media accounts in the summer. The Metro newspaper reported on the singer having shared some of the most surreal and disturbing suppositions put forward by the movement, including the debunked ‘Pizzagate’ conspiracy.

Fans will hope that Buena, once boldly hailed by acclaimed producer and songwriter Brian Higgins in a Guardian interview as “as the finest female singer this country has produced in years“, will fully revert her attention to harnessing her undoubted music talents from hereon in. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic there had been hints that Sugababes – now restored to their original line-up of Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy – would be recording new material to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album One Touch and its celebrated lead single Overload, which Clash recently described as “…perhaps the most definitive opening statement of any British girl group, give or take a ‘Wannabe’”

The group reformed last year (having reclaimed the right to use their original name from subsequent Suga-alumnas Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen); laying down down a cover of Sweet Female Attitude’s 2000 garage hit Flowers with DJ Spoony. Following that release, Keisha Buchanan told The Graham Norton Show audience that: “We’re actually working on music and we plan to put something special together for our fans.” It now seems likely that fans will need to wait till 2021 to hear the fruits of these endeavours.

Buchanan has spoken openly this year about her experiences of racism during her time in the music industry, releasing a heartfelt video on YouTube detailing her difficulties in dealing with a hostile press which targeted her – rather than her white bandmates – for the use of outdated tropes relating to perceived ‘anger’ and ‘aggression’. In the video, Buchanan says: “I used to think racism was when someone directly looked at you and called you a racist word. I didn’t realise that there are so many different ways that a person or people can be racist or prejudice.”

Just a teenager when she joined the Sugababes in the late ’90s, Buchanan outlines that the media, “who were leading the wolf pack” at that time, “did severe damage to my confidence… When you feel that much scrutiny over your life, it then leads to depression.”

Exposing the falsity of her representation in popular media, Buchanan announced, “I want people to see me for me, thoughts and all, shadiness and all, bossiness and all. I want people to see me for me and then make a judgement on that, and not … upon the colour of my skin.”

Responding the recent #BlackLivesMatter protests, Buchanan has also been involved in exposing the racism inherent within the music industry. Having reset her profile picture as the Black Power salute, the singer-songwriter’s official Twitter page, @keisha_buchanan, rallies the battle cry that, “In order to make real change we need to use our influence for GOOD.”

Amen to that.
