The American singer songwriter St Vincent recently announced headline dates across the UK and Europe. Her ‘All Born Screaming’ tour will take her to Dublin, Manchester, Barcelona, Madrid, and Milan this October.

Her additional European dates come hot on the heels of her extremely successful tour across the United States and Europe, and her sold out show at the Royal Albert Hall in London earlier this month. Now she is continuing her tour in Europe, and the presale for her new dates begins Tuesday 25th June at 10am, and general onsale begins Friday 28th June at 10am, and you can find tickets here.

The tour is in support of her most recent album ‘All Born Screaming’ that was released in April earlier this year. The eponymous, fan-loved track features Cate Le Bon, whose name is a tribute to Duran Duran’s frontman Simon Le Bon. St Vincent’s new ten track album follows her last album ‘The Nowhere Inn’, released in 2021, and ‘Daddy’s Home’, which was also released in 2021.

Since her debut album in 2007 with ‘Marry Me’, St Vincent has become a much loved character of the orchestral indie-pop genre, and she has been listed among the best guitarists of the 21st century by multiple publications, including Rolling Stone, who placed her 26th in their ranking, above Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Brian May.

Before her adventure into the world as a solo artist, St Vincent was a member of the Polyphronic Spree, a coral rock band from Dallas, however she left in 2006 and formed her own band after being a member of Sufjan Stevens’ touring band. She then continued to grow to fame as a solo artist, and in 2009 made ‘Rosyln’ with Bon Iver for Twilight New Moon.

Across her discography, she delves into a range of genres and emotions and is renown as a musical shapeshifter, as ‘Marry Me’ embodies orchestral indie-pop, and in 2017 with ‘Masseduction’, she moved on to glam rock, before including 70s psychedelic rock in her 2021 album ‘Daddy’s Home’.

Fans can watch her eclectic performance this Autumn as she traverses across the USA and Europe, telling NME that she’s “gonna f**k ‘em up”. If you’re wondering what to expect, then you can watch the video below of St Vincent performing at her sold out show at the Royal Albert Hall.

Indie-rock musicians Sufjan Stevens, The National’s Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly, and drummer James McAlister have released their debut collaborative album Planetarium; although the album received a live premier back in 2013 during a short residency at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, its release by indie label 4AD marks the first official recording of the conceptual project.

In an interview given to NPR, Stevens discussed his inspiration for the project and provided insight into the albums solar system-inspired soundscape. The project itself clocks in at 75-minutes long with Stevens explaining that such an ‘epic endeavour’ reflects the increasing expansiveness of the universe which is reflected within the album.

Sonically, the album mirrors it’s astrologically inspired concept with the use of ambient tones, analogue synthesisers and electronic string arrangements all contributing to the celestial but melodic nature of the project. Early reviews of the project have been somewhat mixed; The Guardian have referred the project as a firm staple within Steven’s catalogue which shares similarities with recent projects from bands such as Caribou, whereas DIY Magazine criticised the project for its overly vast scale and a lack of diversity across the album. The lead single from the project, ‘Mercury’, can be viewed below:

Meanwhile, the group have announced a series of limited tour dates in support of the project. The tour kicks off in Paris and will cover four dates throughout July; full dates can be seen below:

07-10 Paris, France – Philharmonie de Paris

07-18 Brooklyn, NY – Prospect Park

07-20 Los Angeles, CA – Hollywood Forever Cemetery

07-21 Oakland, CA – Fox Theater

In other news, Bryce Dessner has continued his involvement with Eaux Claires music festival which has recently announced its 2017 line-up. The Wisconsin based festival, conceived by Dessner and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, will feature artists such as Tweedy, Paul Simon and Chance the Rapper which will mark its second year running since the project’s conception. Dessner will also be busy preparing the final touches to The National’s Sleep Well Beast which will be released on September 8th by 4AD; the LP consists of 12 tracks and was produced in New York by Aaron Dessner with co-production from band-mates Bryce Dessner and Matt Berninger. The album will mark the band’s first full-release in four years with an accompanying European and North American tour scheduled to begin in September.

Hint at Kanye West and Sufjan Stevens collaboration

The mythos surrounding Kanye West continues to expand; having only just released his last album last month (The Life of Pablo, February 14th) he is already working on his next release, apparently set to come out this upcoming summer, you certainly cannot fault his worth ethic!

The new album is set to be titled ‘Turbo Grafx 16′ however following the amount of names Kanye announced that the ‘Life of Pablo’ was going to be titled, I wouldn’t bet on ‘Turbo Grafx 16′ being the finalised name.

So far Kanye has kept relatively quiet on what is set to be on the album, however in a tweet yesterday Kanye seemingly hints at a collaboration with singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens:

Day 3 pic.twitter.com/zPw0eFEFGF

— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) March 2, 2016

The song displayed in the tweet is ‘Death With Dignity’ a track from Stevens’ latest album ‘Carrie & Lowell’ which was released last year.

It will certainly be interesting to see whether Kanye is simply drawing inspiration from the indie folk singer-songwriter or whether this hints at more than inspiration, potentially a collaboration between the two. Kanye has time and time again collaborated with all sorts of musicians, and a collaboration with Sufjan Stevens would not be overly surprising; following Kanye’s work with the likes of Justin Vernon and James Blake, Stevens is very much similar and has even performed with Vernon at Eaux Claires before.

Here is a direct link to ‘Death With Dignity’ below, perhaps you can try and see what Kanye will be taking from the song!
