The caption on Instagram read: “When one of your favorite bands in the world contacts you months in advance to rent your studio B to record drums and studio A to rehearse and you’re just grateful. WHAT IS LIFE RIGHT NOW?!!”

Julian Casablancas teased a new Strokes album back in September on stage during the Landmark Music Festival. At the time he told the audience “We’ll be back soon. We’ll be back in the studio and shit”. Provided this is work on a new Strokes album then this will be the band’s sixth studio album, and first since 2013’s Comedown Machine.

The band are currently in Mexico to play Live Out Monterrey festival. The discerning among you may have noticed there’s no sign of Albert Hammond Jr. in the picture, but that might be down to the fact he was taking down his wife’s potential pickpockets earlier today:

It had looked to be all over for anything new from The Strokes. Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr had told BBC Radio 6 “I don’t know if London might be our last show, you know what I mean? People think I’m lying but I’m just tired of trying to make some positive spin, but I’ve got no idea,” prior to their Hyde Park set earlier this year. Speculation had followed, and for many it seemed the band were on course for another indefinite hiatus.

However, during their set at Landmark Music Festival Casablancas told the crowd “We’ll be back soon. We’ll be back in the studio and shit,” before closing the weekend with “Take it or Leave it”

The news invariably hit Twitter with Amanda de Cadenet, the wife of Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi adding to the confirmation hype on Twitter:

This will be the first Strokes album since 2013’s “Comedown Machine”. In the meantime the band have pursued various side projects: Hammond has recently released his third solo album, Nikolai Fraiture has started a new group called The Summer Moon, Fab Moretti has been drumming for Har Mar Superstar, Casablancas has The Voidz, and Valensi has recorded guitar on Brody Dalle’s Diploid Love.
