Playing alongside acts such as Kaiser Cheifs, Ellie Goulding and Ryan Adams – who has announced his UK tour dates here – the Foo Fighters will return for the closing concert of the Invictus Games at London’s Queen Elizabeth Park on September 14th this year.

The Invictus Games will run from the 10^th to the 14^th and comprise of around 300 competitors from 13 countries which have all fought alongside the UK in recent  military campaigns in honour of sick, wounded or injured Servicemen and women. The games were created by Prince Harry and inspired by the ‘Warrior Games’ in the USA.

The Foo Fighters will close the event by playing their first gig in the UK since September 2012, a long wait for die-hard fans.

Dave Grohl has also seen success with his television show ‘Sonic Highways’ which follows the band around various music studios in the states as they record their new album, which as yet remains untitled, to capture the essence of American music history.

The Foo Fighters will release their new album in November this year, and tickets for the Invictus Games go on sale at 9am on Friday 1^st August for £49. You can purchase tickets on the Invictus Games website here

“I’ve pulled up the family tree of American music and exposed its roots to find inspiration for the next Foo Fighters album” Grohl States.

Each track will feature local musical icons and be recorded in a different city from New York, New Orleans, Austin, Chicago and L.A to name a few. Grohl did not write any of the lyrics to the songs until after the sessions, allowing his experience influence the words.

Dave Grohl will also be directing a TV show named “Sonic Highways” which stars the band as they travel amongst the recording studios in North America as they record their new album. The President of HBO Programming says “Dave’s heartfelt passion for this project is contagious and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable. We are excited to go on this journey with him and the Foo Fighters for this insider’s look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music.”

The Foo Fighters have come leaps and bounds since Grohl first started off as a one man act after the death of former Nirvana star Kurt Cobain. Now since their formation in 1997, they are still willing to push their music further by expanding to an eighth studio album, and after the success of ‘Wasted Light’ I’m sure we are all looking forward to this coming November.
