The Milton-Keynes five-piece have been teasing new material for some time now and fans of the band will rejoice at the news that Tesseract will be releasing War of Being 0n 15th September. The group have also just dropped their first single of the new record- accompanied by a video-also called “War Of Being.”

The new album is set to be the band’s most ambitious and conceptual record to date. Tesseract, always a band noted for its intricate musical patterns and originators of the Djent metal style, are continuing their all-immersive, story driven sonic adventures. “War Of Being” is an eleven minute mammoth of a song-the story of which is set in the fictional world of Strangeland. The two protagonist characters ‘ex’ and ‘el’ have crash landed in the world and separated, all while having to face a new foe called ‘Fear’.

For many bands, concept projects can be a hit or miss success but Tesseract are well-versed in the art of telling a compelling story to match their aural capabilities. 2020’s cinematic experience titled, Portals, pushed the band into uncharted waters, as the group filmed themselves performing songs that spanned their entire discography.

Speaking about the new album, bassist Amos Williams said, “War of Being has been all-encompassing for us since late 2019. After I returned home from filming Portals, I found myself in such a deeply introspective headspace. The scale of work and reward from that project kind of set this up to be inevitable. We simply had to try and see how far we could take a concept album with Tesseract.”

Began in 2003 by guitarist Acle Kahney, Tesseract gained world-wide attention with the release of their third studio album Polaris. Since then, the band have been growing from strength to strength, pushing themselves to continue to expand the band’s limits with each release. With a 5 year gap between Sonder and War of Being, Tesseract are ready to pick up where they left off-cementing themselves as one of the most important bands in modern prog-rock.

Tesseract’s world tour will see the band begin in North America for the autumn, before travelling throughout Europe in the new year. Supporting the band on their massive globetrotting campaign will be Intervals, Unprocessed, Alluvial and The Callous Doaboys. After releasing a spree of breakout extended plays on their Soundcloud in 2016, experimenting with artists from around the globe, including the likes of Sango, Lyves and James Vincent McMorrow, Sonder looked to expand their palette in search of new sounds. After their ‘Into’ EP, a sensual seven track journey spawning the hit ‘Too Fast’, the enigmatic nature was broken revealing Sonder to the world along with the rising vocalist Brent Faiyaz at the vocal helm. Since 2017, the group have spent time in the UK working on music, including the recording of a chunk of Brent’s most recent solo venture ‘Fuck The World’.

It is unknown whether this most recent song was recorded during the groups time in London, but this collaboration has been long sought after by R&B fans alike, with both artists acknowledging each other in the past. This new single signals a revival of the Sonder alias, with the upload of a new video to YouTube exclusively by the group titled ‘TOO LATE TO DIE YOUNG’. The 13-minute film includes snippets of new music over a backdrop of various location shots and studio footage, directed by Liam Walsh and producer Dpat. As well as Sonders re-emergence, Jorja Smith has been active as a solo artist herself, with her new single ‘Addicted’ gracing streaming platforms last month before this collaboration. Both artists are in positions to release new projects in 2021, and these new tracks serves as taster for what’s in store for summer and beyond.
