Substack, in particular, has become a space where artists share essays, demos, tour diaries and behind-the-scenes commentary without the constraints of character limits or the volatility of public comment threads. Many cite the slower pace, lower volume of abuse and ability to build paying subscriber bases as major draws.

For artists whose reputations are heavily contested online, these newsletters can serve as a reputational reset, allowing them to speak directly to committed listeners. In Lizzo’s case, the essay functions as both a public reflection on cancel culture and a signal to fans that she plans to shape her own narrative through considered, long-form communication rather than reactive social media posts.

Lizzo now joins a growing roster of pop stars and veterans experimenting with Substack. Charli XCX, for instance, launched a newsletter in late 2025 and has used it for extended reflections on life after her “Brat” era and upcoming projects, mirroring Lizzo’s emphasis on process over pure promotion. Rosalía has used her space to share release updates and sheet music, while artists such as Patti Smith, Jeff Tweedy, Dolly Parton, Lorde, Tegan and Sara and Neko Case have turned newsletters into a hybrid of fan club, journal and income stream. Together, their approaches highlight how artists are reworking the relationships among celebrity, criticism, and direct fan engagement in a changing online landscape.

“The last few months have made it impossible to be on here. All the conspiracy chat about my relationship, my son or even stretching sometimes to opinions on my Mum. It’s just too much and too hurtful for me to see!” the Doncaster singer wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The star, who shares a nine-year-old son with Briana Jungwirth, has been facing a lot of conspiracies in recent weeks since he began dating British reality TV star Zara McDermott.

Louis has experienced a great deal of personal loss since he found fame with One Direction in 2010. His mother Johannah Deakin died of leukaemia in 2016 and just three years later, his younger sister Félicité Tomlinson passed away following an accidental overdose. In October last year, Louis’ bandmate Liam Payne died after falling from a hotel balcony. Now, Louis has taken to social media to call out ‘hurtful’ comments from people online, which is forcing him off social media platform X. As Louis wrapped up his emotional message, he took time to pay tribute to the loyal supporters who have always shown him kindness. He signed off by writing, “Thank you to everyone who always has my back!”

Ever since One Direction was formed, 15 years ago now, the singer has been put under speculation and conspiracy has some fans were convinced him and fellow band member Harry Styles were secretly in a relationship, despite both men denying the rumours multiple times. The extreme fanbase even went so far as to wrongly suggest Louis’ son Freddie Reign Tomlinson, who he welcomed with Briana Jungworth in 2016 and keeps out of the public eye, was actually a doll planted as an elaborate cover up for their relationship. The rumours were called “sick and morally wrong” by Brianna, Freddie’s mother.

While the singer keeps chat about his son to a minimum, he confessed in 2020 to Fabulous Magazine that having Freddie at 24 had been “unexpected” and forced him to “grow up very quickly.”

“It was another one of them moments — being faced with the reality of a situation and having to step up. It was a very maturing time in my life. And, again, I’ve kind of got between two head spaces. I’m the responsible dad and brother some days and other days I’m still the reckless idiot chav I used to be. I’m still trying to work out a happy medium.”

Louis recenlty took part in UNICEF’s football game at the Old Trafford Stadium, a charity football game to help raise funds supporting children. Since 2006, Soccer Aid for UNICEF brings together various soccer icons, celebrities, musicians, athletes, and more to compete in the annual charity soccer game with the goal to “help children grow up safe, healthy, and able to play.”

His now deceased ex band member Liam Payne is set to grace our Netflix screens soon as one of his last projects Building The Band will be releasing episodes from July 9 onward.

Speaking of the collaboration, Lloyd said, “I’ve been a fan of hers for years growing up, and when I decided to do a collaborative album, her name was the first one that came to mind. She did such an incredible job at taking such a personal thing and making a song that conveys all the emotion I have felt for years.”

Hale, no stranger to Lloyd’s work thus far, added, “I’ve been garnering inspiration from Sophie Lloyd for years! When Sophie asked me to put lyric and song to her amazing instrumental work we talked in depth about how this album has been a tool in helping her overcome her feelings of otherness. It was like thumbing through her diary and also like staring at myself in the mirror. I hope that this song will give strength to anyone who needs it. It was an honour to draw my weapons and with such a talented and stunning soul!” 

Lloyd got her start by creating guitar videos and streaming it online on platforms like YouTube. She began by doing covers of popular bands that she enjoyed such as Green Day and Iron Maiden before moving on to classic rock and metal songs. It was’t too long before the guitarist made the sizeable jump from online content creator to massive arena rock star.

The guitarist remains quite humble about her meteoric rise however, saying, “I just kind of wing it. The truth is, I never set out to be an online content creator. I joined YouTube back in the day because there wasn’t a real music scene where I grew up. I had to follow a more unconventional path. I didn’t plan to be a touring musician, either; in fact, I like staying at home and being with my family…. I just love making music, and I’m open to whatever exciting thing comes my way.”

The singer shared the news on her Instagram and was met with a mixed reception.

The post, which has over 30,000 likes, left many fans divided over the announcement. The official Bratz page commented: “OMG BESTIE WHAT?!” followed by a crying emoji, whilst another use commented: “Sky Ferreira world domination.”

However, many fans were also sharing their frustrations over a lack of new material by the superstar. One person wrote: “Girl you’ve been touring the same album for 10 years”, and another person commented: “Girl how about you drop an album before these dates we’re starving”.

Sky, who last performed in the UK at the 2022 Meltdown Festival, released her latest single “Don’t Forget” last year. The track, which has over 3 million streams on Spotify, will be included on her up-coming sophomore album, Masochism. Her 2019 single, titled “Downhill Lullaby”, will also be part of the anticipated record.

Sky’s last and only album was released over a decade ago. The project, Night Time, My Time, showcases Sky’s strength as an indie pop-rockstar and features 1990’s grunge and 80’s pop elements. The record, which is featured in many media publication’s best album lists of 2013, debuted at number 73 on the UK Albums Chart. Hits from the album include “Boys”, “I Blame Myself” and “You’re Not The One.”

The musician and model has been open about her struggles with delays with new material. Earlier this year, Sky expressed her frustrations on the subject and took to her Instagram stories to explain the hold-up. She said: “Being ‘difficult’ or ‘high strung’ doesn’t give people the right to damage & stall my career. I am in a difficult situation & I have to be ‘difficult’ to get through it. I have to protect my work & myself somehow? It’s not okay. If I’m not allowed to say something without consequence & the people who are supposed to do their job refuse to look out for me… How am I not going to be ‘difficult’?!?”

Fans of the singer have also expressed their feelings, with ‘Free Sky Ferreira’ banners flying over Capitol Records in Los Angeles.

Whilst fans will have to be patient for a little while longer for a new album, they can see her perform on her tour next year.

The iconic band are no stranger to visually pleasing artforms and have utilised such processes throughout their career. The London formed rockers’ partnership with TikTok continues such creative practices whilst combining their unique aesthetic with modern and digital processes. The band’s first TikTok was posted via their account with the caption “Pink Floyd has arrived”, by the morning of Tuesday 31st May 2022 the band’s profile had acquired over 14,000 followers.

The group have joined a long list of successful artists who have utilised TikTok to benefit their careers, many established acts have seen the potential held by TikTok and have utilised the app’s global reach to propel their popularity. The social media platform has also been responsible for the success of many new artists, with over 1 billion users TikTok has become a vital tool for any new and emerging acts.

The TikTok launch date coincided with another important landmark of Pink Floyd’s storied career, the 30th May 2022 marked the fiftieth anniversary of The Dark Side Of The Moon. It has been half a century since the initial recording stages for the seminal album took place, the band recorded the influential album at the iconic Abbey Road Studios within two sessions. The album was released on 1st March 1973 via Harvest Records and marked the group’s eighth studio album.

Pink Floyd have become known for their talented virtuosic musicianship and humanistic lyrical content, the band’s songs have historically dealt with such issues as social injustice, war, oppression and morality. Formed in the early 1960s, Pink Floyd now consists of surviving members David Gilmour and Nick Mason, both band members have joined a roster full of artists voicing their support for Ukraine.

Earlier in the year, Gilmour and Mason released a song in aid of the recent conflict, “Hey Hey Rise Up” was released with Ukrainian artist Andriy Khlyvnyuk, funds occurred through the track’s sales and streams were donated to the Ukraine Humanitarian Relief Fund. Gilmour spoke to Rolling Stone concerning the single, “The following that we have as Pink Floyd — the size of the platform. When I spoke to Nick, and he said he was willing to do it as Pink Floyd, it seemed like a no-brainer, We want to spread this message of peace, and we want to raise the morale of the people who are defending their homeland there in Ukraine. So why not?”

The artist announced the news through twitter, keeping his notorious dead-pan humour intact throughout the statement. “Going to fuck off for a wee bit now to crack on and finish the second album. Won’t be using social media so you’ll all have to make do without me talking shite and constantly trying to take your money by flogging you something,” he explained.

The young singer-songwriter turned head throughout 2020, receiving multiple awards and topping the charts with his hit single ‘Someone You Loved’ and his debut album ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ was the UK’s best-selling album of 2019 and 2020. While the absence of the beloved artist is upsetting to fans, they can be rest assured that Capaldi will return with an album that is sure to excite.
