Post-punk legend Siouxsie has finally emerged from under the rocks after a decade-long break from performing. She has come back with an added 3 live gigs in Europe and is ready to kick off this coming 3rd of May in Brussels.

The five shows will take place in scattered areas around the world. The lucky chosen cities include Brussels followed by Amsterdam, Milan, California and Suffolk, UK. Two of which she will be headlining festivals Latitude and Cruel World. However, it is not yet established whether these are the final and only dates she will be offering her fans. It is suspected se could be making a couple more stops before making her way back to the UK for her, current, final show.

She will be performing a headline show at Cruel World Festival on the Saturday, 20th of May alongside artists Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, Love and Rockets, The Human League, etc. It is a recently established festival based in the Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Founded in 2020 and dedicated to showcasing bands belonging to the new wave, post-punk, gothic rock and alternative rock scenes. Perfectly fit to be lead by such an iconic figure in said music scene. Her other headline show is at Latitude Festival on the Sunday, 23rd of July based in east England in Henham Park, Suffolk, playing alongside George Ezra, Paolo Nutini, Pulp, and many more. A festival varying more between genres including jazz, R&B, indie-rock and pop.

Siouxsie’s last performance sits back in 2013 when she was invited to sing at Yoko Ono’s Meltdown Festival, held in the Royal Festival Hall in London. The crowd were blessed with a hell of a show featuring a selection of her best 80’s and 90’s hits. She and her band, much to everyone’s welcomed surprise, played almost the whole Banshees album Kaleidoscope from the 80’s. Little did they know that that would be the last taste they’d be getting of her bewitching presence before her re-emergence now 10 years later.

Ever since her first ever appearance singing live at the 100 Club Punk Festival in 1979 she has become a spine-chilling music icon, a powerful female leader, a music culture innovator and the creator of over eleven studio albums with the Banshees. The rock queen hasn’t failed to put on a good show throughout her active years and, if anything, a trooper like her won’t come back quietly. Even at 65 years of age. Her coming shows are guaranteed to be a mysterious, entrancing and historic experience, in hopes of hearing all her and her bands best hits. Tickets for Latitude and Cruel World are currently available to buy online, however, the Brussels, Amsterdam and Milan shows are still to be released.

All tickets are available to buy here.

EU and UK Tour Dates:

04/05 – Paradiso – Amsterdam
07/05 – Teatro Degli Arcimboldi – Milan

Members of The Mission, The Cure and The Smiths all feature in the video for Wayne Hussey’s new charity single ‘ToS2020’, released August 28. This is an all-star cover of the 1988 single ‘Tower of Strength’ by The Mission, reworked to raise money for coronavirus relief charities.

The project is referred to as ‘ReMission International’ and the new single has been called ‘TOS2020’ to distinguish it from the original. The video consists of a combination of live footage, footage of studio sessions, mostly recorded on webcams, and photos. This comes between clips from science labs and hospitals – the coronavirus front-line. These images include people in hazmat suits, videos of test tubes and microscopes, and teams of doctors gathered in their masks. One particularly emotional moment depicts a medical professional at the bedside of a coronavirus patient.

Although the footage of contributing artists is relatively light-hearted, the video has a serious tone and it is honest about the real challenges that medical professionals have faced in the last few months. It also depicts some of the day-to-day realities of coronavirus; there is a lot of mask wearing! You can watch the full video, and hear the reissue of the single, below.

Wayne Hussey declared that the idea for the re-release of ‘Tower of Strength’ actually came from the enthusiasm of others: “When Covid-19 hit I started receiving messages asking ‘why don’t you re-issue ‘Tower Of Strength’ for the front line workers?’” He continued, “The song had apparently been adopted as an anthem by some NHS workers, and it got me thinking that I would like to contribute something to the greater cause at this unprecedented time and the only thing I could really contribute is music.”

As you might spot in the video, ‘TOS2020’ has an exciting line-up, with guests including Gary Numan, Martin Gore, Lol Tolhurst, Midge Ure, Billy Duffy, Rachel Goswell of Slowdive, Andy Rourke and Budgie from Siouxsie and the Banshees. Julianne Regan from All About Eve, said, “I’ve seen and heard ‘Tower Of Strength’ played often and I’ve experienced its effect and the impact it has on others. It’s an anthemic song of hope, comfort and joy, with a message that now seems more relevant than ever.”

Gary Numan added, “Being given the chance to do some good to raise money for people and animals struggling in these frightening times by singing one of the best songs ever written was such an easy thing to say yes to. An absolute honour to be involved.”

The charities will be “personally chosen” by each respective contributor. There is a list of the current contenders below. In a press release, Hussey said that the single had already raised more than £40,000. ‘TOS2020‘ was released digitally on August 28, and a physical release on 12” vinyl and CDs on October 2.
